Loved this, I've used these for years, if you gesso your page the gelatoes will dissolve 100% and they just glide over the page
Interesting about the gesso - wow. Now I'm definitely going to have to try that! Trying other paper surfaces would be fun, too.
The picture you created is lovely! Thanks for posting.
Thank you! Thanks for watching and commenting. :-)
It was really fun to watch you learn this new supply, the approach is helpful for other mediums, too! This definitely made me want to work in my Etchr with the Neocolor II crayons! Your piece turned out great (and I love the unfinished piece across, too)! 🤗👍🤩
Thanks. I love the Neocolor II crayons. I also have the Derwent Aquatone pencils (they don't make them anymore, sadly) and both are really fun. I'm so close to finishing this sketchbook - I'm not nearly as good at that as you are, lol! But I'm getting there with this one! Now to finish that scary painting across from this one, ha! Still laughing to myself occasionally thinking of your unboxing of the supplies I sent you. Love what you did with them.
I like watching you experimenting with different media but watercolor is kind of the love of my life. 🥰
Same here!
You're audio sounds fine to me. Thank you for the video!
Oh, good to know, thank you!
I love that you show the testing process rather than just making a little swatch then pretending you know enough to make a review. This is much more useful.
So feel you on the ruler being three feet away.
Oh good. I'm never sure if people will get bored through the testing process or not, so I just have to make it as I would like to see if it someone else was doing it. Thank you for the feedback! (Lol on the ruler)
@@MirandaWatsonArt well I come here specifically because of how you review, so you've made at least me happy!
Oh those look super fun, I only have the harder watercolor crayons... I mean mother's day is coming up putting them on my wishlist wouldn't hurt anything.
Hahaha, I like the way you think, T!
The painting turned out so pretty! You had more luck with the gelatos than I have in the past, haha! I need to try them again, I have forgotten how to use them, lol.
Thanks, Becky. I actually added a few darks to the bottom and filled in some n the field before I sealed it. And the Karmar Varnish made it look so shiny and pretty. Maybe if I remember, I'll post a picture of it today in my Community tab and on Instagram. Hopefully I remember! Lol!
I was a Faber-Castell mixed media groupie for a while. Can't remember ever seeing anything this amazing during that time. It is incredible-a joy to look at.
Thank you, Beth, that warms my heart. Love the g'night of you being a Faber-Castell groupie, lol!
@@MirandaWatsonArt I think somewhere in this video you mentioned some of your students liked them. Next day I noticed I have a jar of them (mostly metallics) sitting on a shelf. Haven't touched them in years-some may be unused.Want to pass them on?
Sure! Yea!
Uhh, no to painting with lipstick as a kid. lol I like how explored the Gelatos. Very nice painting.
Hahaha, no lipstick for you? :-D Thank you, George.
This was really fun to watch and you have inspired me to get out the gelatos and use them in a whole different way ! Thanks so much !
Oh sweet; that's great!
I have Neocolor IIs, and they are definitely a blast. Your painting came out great
Thank you!
I’ve always wanted to try these!! Once the water is added they really come to life😍 I liked your approach doing the trees first and then the background. A very cute little “painting”? You can never really go wrong with faber castell…
They are so fun! Thanks, Alexis. :-)
Could you please do a side by side of the gelatos and Maribou? The same picture done with each to showcase them both?
Yes, definitely! It'll be next month. :-D
@@MirandaWatsonArt I’ll be watching for it. These look so fun!
I’m not a gelato fan and prefer art crayons (Caran D’Ache style) or oil pastels but you did great with them! I had a set and gave them away.
Thanks, Julie. I understand these not being a favorite. Their end result always surprises and delights me, though. :-)
Thank you for featuring these!! I've been very curious about them.
You're very welcome; it was fun!
Great atmospheric paintings. I'm afraid, I wouldn't really like to buy the Gelatos because of the smearing, eventhough the colours are truly beautiful. I stick to Neocolor II and when I have the opportunity, I try the prima marketing ones. See you on Friday. As usual your cat is adorable.
Thank you, Valerie. I would like to compare my Neocolor IIs to these at some point. I'm quite curious about their differences. Next month!
I like your picture. When I was a child and a teenager trying to do art through copying something, I thought I had to make it look exactly the same. And I never could. And I got discouraged plus having a bad art teacher in 8th grade I quit doing art. Then when I was getting my associates degree I took an art class. It was really fun. Since then I have come to realize that no one is going copy something exactly. It is just not possible. It's okay to be inspired and do something fairly similar while giving credit to the artist or photographer of the original. And to not put impossible expectations on oneself. Anyways, I am hoping that in a year or two I can take some art classes at the local community college just for fun and so that I can learn. I love your work Miranda.
Thank you, Diane. What a bummer about the art teacher. It's amazing (and absolutely horrible) how one bad teacher can break a student. So sad. I'm glad you finally returned to art. Hugs.
This looks really fun! Your piece turned out super cool! Lol @ "I have jellybeans in my mouth still"
Thanks, Annie - they were definitely fun to use. Yeah, shouldn't have bought the jelly beans, but they were Starburst ones on clearance after Easter. I had to hide them yesterday so I wouldn't eat the whole bag, lol!
@@MirandaWatsonArt my Easter candy weakness is the Cadbury mini eggs with the hard candy shell. I will eat a whole bag of those if I buy them! 😬
Hahaha!
I wonder if you activated the gelatos with clear gesso or matte medium instead of water if that would make them less smudgy? I love your beautiful picture!
Possibly. May have to try it someday.
Thank you for trying these out. Will admit have never been drawn to gellatos. Still not. So not a bad thing. I have a lot of supplies. Like that Neocolor Ii only uses paper as it's sleeve and not plastic. That art material I love.
Thank you for enjoyable videos.
I now want to get my Neocolor IIs out and compare them with everything else. Good point about the paper sleeve. Thank you for always being here.
the colours are really nice 😀 I've never actually drawn with lipstick, even as a kid, never thought to lol
Thanks and lol. :-)
Cool, have you tried Caran D’Ache Neocolor2 water crayons? This painting would be great for those… thanks for posting! 🙏🏾👍🏾😃
I have tried them, and I love them! I have a comparison video coming out in June. It'll compare the Neocolor IIs, the Gelatos, the Aquatones and the Marabu Art Crayons. Should be a fun one!
Another artist put them down, blended with either a finger or a sponge (just as with oil pastels), and then can optionally add water depending on what you prefer. She made amazing art very simply. Suggest you try that too. Thx for the demo.😁
Thank you!
Great video! I wasn’t sure how to use my Gelatos and this showed me how versatile they are and how to approach a painting.
Glad it was helpful! They are fun!
Nice drawing ..✍️
Thank you!
@@MirandaWatsonArt Welcome
I love them but I use them more like watercolors than oil pastels.
Yes, I can see how that would work. I've never sharpened mine before, but if I do, I'll sharpen the pieces into a half pan and make it a type of watercolor. I also need to do lightfast testing on these.
@@MirandaWatsonArt Interesting idea but I just use them as they are but using them with more water to get watercolor effects.
Thanks!
Welcome
