- Wrestling Bios Presents - The WCW Career of Raven
This is the 2nd video in a series that looks at the career of Scott Levy, better known as Raven. This video looks at Raven in WCW.
After gaining popularity in ECW, Raven was offered a WCW contract that would increase his finances. Raven would debut in WCW while the company was red hot, and while he didn't quite break into the main event picture, he did have a good run with the company.
Scott Levy had previously worked in WCW as Scotty Flamingo, but this time he would return to the company as Raven. In the summer of 1997, Raven made his debut on WCW Nitro, sitting in the crowd. This would be a theme that would continue as Raven introduced The Flock, a group of wrestlers who would also sit at ringside with Raven, watching their opponents and planning their next moves. Ravens Flock would include members such as Stevie Richards, Perry Saturn, Billy Kidman and Scotty Riggs.
In this mini documentary from Wrestling Bios, we cover the following topics -
- The Raven WCW Debut
- His early feud with former Nest member Stevie Richards
- Raven recruiting new members to The Flock, including Billy Kidman and Perry Saturn
- The Raven vs Chris Benoit feud
- Mortis / Kanyon feuding with Raven's Flock and eventually joining the group
- The end of The Flock and Raven's Dead pool stable
- Much More!

Raven is a Legend in my opinion.
I agree 👍 aswell
No doubt about it
You mean the 27 time Hardcore Champion who pushed out a shopping cart filled with weapons to the ring. OH HELL YEAH!
Thats not an opinion... That an indisputable, objective fact. 😤
Raven was a flawless perfect character.
"He made more than Chris Jericho, but less than Disco Inferno " Think about that for a minute.
I thought about that throughout the whole video, how much was he on????
@@garyfrood6670 It was well known that Disco Inferno was paid well at WCW in the 90s.
Jericho was a undercard semi cruiserweight. Disco was an ass kisser. What'd you expect?
Looking back now, hands down Jericho deserved more. Raven is my favorite Wrestler and I feel his was somewhat justified especially since they had no clue how to utilize him. But come on, the Disco Inferno?....
Disco was paid extra for the humiliation of playing well Disco
Raven has mentioned in a previous interview he really only wanted Perry Saturn and Billy Kidman in the Flock and one more enforcer character. He explained why he didn’t want everyone has given, but then he complemented everyone he had. The Flock was the most over group that didn’t win. The Flock would apparently ask when they were going to win and he would respond “it’s not up to me” and Sullivan wouldn’t let them win any matches. Great vid sir!
We almost had The Flock vs NWO?? That would of been incredible. What a missed opportunity. Keep the vids coming. Love this channel.
I guess - I mean, the nWo would have just squashed The Flock in every match ...
Mad Agrar Bagwell and Vincent wouldn't have
I heard Hogan squashed it was he intimidated that Raven would be more popular which he would have
The Flock was such an underrated group
Loved em! I use to think the flock use to listen to Nirvana, Moterhead and other bands like I did.
My cat's name is The Flock
Who was in it?
The Flock would be pretty cool and Raven vs DDP would’ve been completely awesome and Raven being WCW Hardcore Champion would’ve been cool
@@elcesar999 Raven, Saturn, Sick Boy, Reese, Kidman, Riggs, Hammer, Horace, Lodi, Kanyon, Stevie Richards
"Made more than Chris Jericho but less than disco inferno"
I think my brain blue screened trying to figure out how WCW thought disco was worth more than Raven and Y2J,
I just made the same comment, dang! I'm glad it's not just me.
Mike Cabral I’m trying to digest that statement.
Well u gotta point
my first thought was "and that's why they lost Jericho easily"
@@melaniel.4269 True Raven did burn alot of bridges but his versatility meant that he was always a popular hire despite those burned bridges. Hell he sued WWE over the independent contractor issue and still came back two years later as a talking head in a wwe network special. Also I think it needs pointing out that Disco's gimmick was more comedy so he would be limited in how he can be used. I think Raven would be worth more to the company given he has experience as a wrestler, manager, commentator, and various backstage roles.
Raven vs sting rivalry would of been great.
Yes!!!
Sometimes I'll just put this channel on & play it through my tv while I'm doing things around the house & just listen to 4 or 5 of these stories 1 after another. Dont even have to look at the screen sometimes can just listen to these incredible stories. Some things just pop into my head from memory. Can't get enough of this content.
Hated this guy when I was little now as an adult I can see how much of a genius he was definitely a top tier performer very entertaining
Got to say one of my favorite wrestling moments is when Raven and Kanyon accidentally hurt one of the Villanos. Obviously not the injury part and in a era where Kayfabe was still a thing Raven forgot everything except someone was hurt and just cradled his oppents neck to prevent further injury until paramedics arrived.
Raven is the closest we've got to a "modern" day Jake Roberts.
Jake? Jake the Snake? Do you mean? No, Raven wasn't quite that good. Jake taught Scotty a lot, oh but.
@@ennbee2051 - Did I st-st-stutter, stupid?
@@ennbee2051Jake the snake is a horrible wrestler except popularizing the DDT
I meet Ravin back in 09 in Columbia SC. He knows how to keep in character even when signing autographs.
WCW should've done more with the Raven Flock faction.
That bit on Thunder when they wound up brawling with both nWo Red and White-only for it to never be mentioned again-was one of the worst cockteases of that whole era.
Agreed. But the WCW should've had done more with 95% of its wrestlers rather than have them for window dressing.
@@dcabral00 well..they shouldn't of had like a whole ww3 with nwo vs nwo vs nwo
Been a Raven fan for years. Glad to see the videos being made.
If only one comment, it should be four parts as he did some decent work for Nwa-Tna in their early years
So far this has been a well put together series on what is unquestionably one of the unsung masterminds in the history of the wrestling industry.
What are ya? The hardest working man on UA-cam? You're the man good sir!!
Haha! Thanks man. Hope you enjoy the video.
@@WrestlingBios I did, keep up the great work!
@@WrestlingBios don't forget Ravens TNA days where he won the NWA world heavyweight title at King of the 🏔️ please upload that especially his match with abyss in a dog collar match !
Raven returning to ECW to win the titles WITH Dreamer was freakin crazy. I loved that story telling.
I love this page... I now find myself anticipating the notification when another video airs... Please don't stop what you're doing...
Raven was underrated in WcW and WWE. He was great worker
6:51 Raven wearing a Nevermore print from their first album! 🤘 I popped hardcore when I seen that! RIP Warrel Dane! 😇
Raven is so underrated! Especially in the WWE! He would have definitely been great in the upper card and in the main event!! He was the CM Punk of the 90’s/2000’s
Kinda ironic considering CM Punk first notable feud was with Raven in ROH.
Mike Cabral it was as if Raven was passing the torch to Punk!
You're gonna have to make this a 4 parter and include the TNA stuff too
Raven was brilliant in his timing with leaving, one of the smartest men in the history of the industry
I love how Raven actually used the whole creative control part of his contract to benefact his character instead of holding down other talent
Personally, I always liked Raven and the flock. I loved their matches and style. The flock having a fued with the nwo would have been awesome.
Raven didnt exactly want stevie, he didnt want 're-treads' he wanted newbies that werent being repackaged for the Flock.
1 of the most underrated wrestler
Omg that Slamboree match is one of my all time underrated matches ever
Raven hardly lost in WCW he was booked good to a extent. Made him look strong but just stayed in same spot without moving up
Love the fact that your doing a part 3 of this series
Ahhh man Raven was too good!! Another great video, Thank you:)
Raven is definitely one of my favorite wrestlers. Also thanks to the uploader of this video
US Title match vs Goldberg was my favorite.. I remember watching it live... And the shopping skits were good too...
Thank you!!! this is definitely the highlight of my day
As cool as it sounds, I don't know if a Flock/nWo feud would have worked. Both were basically outside forces invading WCW, both were heels, and it wouldn't have made sense to turn either face. If the nWo thing hadn't happened at the same time, Raven and the Flock would have been so much bigger in WCW
Josh Giles back then there where heel vs heel fueds
I'm sure they would have made the flock job to the nWo in every single confrontation. But I bet Hogan Nash and those guys saw themselves as far superior to the flock guys and would never even let that story start. I have to think that the idea of an nWo and flock feud had been mentioned only to be shot right down.
I've watched Raven since the Scott Anthony days in Global Wrestling Federation, I loved Raven in ECW in WCW like a lot roster a world of talent. just poor management
I couldn't wait for him and Beniot to get it on.
One of my favorite wrestlers. I always picked him in the N64 game, WCW Monday night Nitro.
You are awesome Sir...Quote the Raven...Forevermore. Honestly wasn't expecting you uploading so soon. Thanks
Never more.. Not forever more..
@@SlimeScholarI am complementing Wrestling Bios work, to paraphrase I am saying ..."You are awesome" said The Raven, "Always" / The Raven said 'Wrestling Bios you are always awesome." Also Raven said Forevermore in rare occasions like "Quote the World Heavyweight Champion, forevermore." or "Quote the Raven United States Champion forevermore." after winning the titles. Cheers
@@RaqeebKhan18 i must never of caught it. Just assumed he was using the quote from the raven by Poe.
@@SlimeScholar I remember him saying Forevermore twice or thrice maybe. BTW do check this wcw promo, its bloody brilliant ua-cam.com/video/5owYlsPcqrM/v-deo.html
Great job wrestling bio didn't know much about Raven but I'm learning now thanks for this series 👍
Love all of your videos brother watched every single one. Great to see another Irish man doing so well
These videos on Raven are even better than I could have hoped for! Love the videos and your channel man! Would love to see a video on "The King of The Deathmatch" Jimmy Havoc sometime in the future!
THANK YOU Wrestling bios You Bring Back great memory’s And remind us of Wrestling in its prime From Big John Studd To Akeem To warrior and Bret harts. And Shawn Micheal from 1992 to 1998 he my favourite wrestler then THANK YOU god bless Wrestling Bios 🏅💛
Great video I just love seeing the Nostalgia bro
Your videos are amazing keep up the great work
I was told Marty Jannetty was planned to be a Flock member. That would have been cool.
Thank you for making this video. Even though Goldberg's popularity was on fire Raven was actually my favorite WCW wrestler. As a fan I respected him as a Man for standing up and walking out of WCW.This is the many reasons why WCW crumbled. I don't understand how you can put the world title on an actor. That to me is spitting in the face of every wrestler in that locker room that busted their asses for the company.
Thank you for sharing brother
Wrestling Bios, please do one of the Corprate Ministry storyline in 1999!
This is when I became aware of Raven. He was on their Saturday program all the time. I thought he was cool.
Keep it up, great channel 👍
Another kick ass video sir.
A Raven and Perry Saturn vs NWO feud would have been pretty good back then
And Booker T. And many many others. Lex Luger and Giant vs nWo over and over over again.
Raven was awesome man one of my favorite wrestlers ever
Raven must in the Hall of Fame. A Hardcore Legend. Looks like Kurt Corbain
The Raven character is so underrated, just because Bishcoff, and Vince didn't know what to do with him.
That nevermore T-shirt 🔥
please do one on ICP or Vampiro
I'm enjoying your biographys. Any chance on you making some on leggends from the 60s-70s?
Thank you for (again) including ICP. Not many recaps do.
Please keep old ECW bios coming brother. I pray for a Tommy Dreamer 🍻🙏
Patrick Ryan me too along with Sabu, Terry Funk, Cactus Jack and the Sandman
Quote the Raven never more
I just Subscribed to this channel
The single most brilliant, and handsome wrestler in the business.
Quote the Raven.. Nevermore.
Great video and loved Raven in WCW but there's a lot that's left out here. Mortis actually tried to join Raven before beginning the rivalry with him. More on the DDP feud and how they were both trained by Jake. He also brought in his sister as manager for awhile. And it was revealed he was faking his depression the whole time.
Such great beginning for Raven and such a disappointing end.
Instead of going into real detail on Raven's WCW career, the guy who makes these videos would rather use that time to bash WCW. He's such a WWE fanboy, it's hard to watch some of his videos.
Some people forget that Raven is a former WCW United States Champion. Granted he only held the Title for one day before losing it to Goldberg. I always liked Raven. He should have been given a bigger push than he got in WCW and WWE. The Flock was good entertainment. Raven's Flock vs. nWo could have been awesome. Raven vs. Macho Man would have been an epic feud.
Politics stop Raven from succeeding don't know why but it's sad
Just hearing Raven on his shoots he's such an annoying prick. If he was like that to the big shots I don't blame them for burying him
1st one was amazing expecting the same with this one.
Homie bringing grade A content as always
Anyone know a good ad blocker?
Adguard (mobile).
Quite the change from Johnny Polo to Raven.
Still him in Jericho my favorite wrestlers of all time hate how Wwe did raven
Agree
Those Raven/Kanyon vignettes were great. Still remember them 20+ years later. *Sees "Versace"* "Ver-sayce?!"
Brad Barker - was there ever a kayfabe explanation of why Sandman showed up as an old “family friend” in preppie gear during those before he was suddenly turned into Hardcore Hak?!
Excellent.
Raven vs Saturn Bash at the Beach is still one of my favourite matches
My favorite wrestler and the reason I got into wrestling in the first place
hey i noticed theres no billy kidman video lol, when i was a kid i used to confused him with xpac lol
Raven is a legend in my opinion to
Criminally underrated he is up there with sting in my opinion
R a v e n s amazing career , awesome never duplicated 🦅
Alot of the wrestlers don't give raven the credit he deserves i remember him on the cover of wcw revenge for the n64.
underrated
RaVen vs NWO would have been epic and should have happened, don't know why the angle was dropped.
Hogan,nash,etc. Putting over young,potential-star,wrestlers?
Gee wonder why,,,
My Mother-in-law's nickname for me was "Raven" because my attitude at the time was a self-depressing, "What about me? What about Raven!?"
Raven will forever hold the wcw US title on my WWE2k
Like Public Enemy,Raven almost looked completely out of placed in WCW (Mikey Whipwreck and Sandman were really out of place outside of ECW). Can you do one on Public Enemy’s time in ECW and WCW (maybe even WWF)?
I always thought Raven was underrated, his Raven gimmick was Epic!
I started watching ECW in 1998, not regularly as it wasn't really possible to do so in the UK. Hardcore TV was shown on German sports channel DSF and later in 1999 it was on Bravo UK so I only saw Raven wrestle once he got to WCW. I watched Raven when he was Scotty Flamingo in WCW and Johnny Polo in WWF. He disappeared for a while but then I saw a photo of him in a wrestling magazine in 1996 as Raven, in ECW. I was a fan of his just from the photo as he looked grungey and like nothing I'd seen in wrestling, maybe on MTV but not wrestling. In my opinion one of the top five gimmicks of all time.
Raven is a legend. And this was Raven at his highest point and best part of his career. Watching WCW and WWE back and forth during the Monday Night War time period,I always looked forward to,and made sure not to miss the Raven and The Flock segments. It was good stuff, and aside from the NWO storylines, Raven's faction was must see stuff as well.
Quote the Raven. Nevermore!
I never understood Kidman's character at all when he was in the Flock. I did find it very funny, and I know he was just trying to find himself, and at the time was in a small role as a heel. Lol! The dude was always stopping to scratch his face. Like he had gotten into Davey Boy's locker and took his bottle of Perc 30s. He was just scratching his face like a fiend. Is that what he was supposed to be portraying I wonder,a junkie?
Lodi was Flea on steroids
I had no idea that Van Hammer was a rock superstar lol. And yes, this is what Scotty Riggs was doing while his former tag team partner Buff Bagwell was doing some endless steroid cycles.
Just seen Raven wearing a Dinosaur Jr on at 9:02. Crazy!!!
I honestly didn't like WCW back then but when I watched Raven is was drawn. But then in 98 when I discovered ECW and seen old clips of Raven, I thought it made more sense him being in ecw. And when he returned in 99 I think, I was blown away!
I liked the Johnny Polo gimmick.
One of my favorite wrestlers.
*"WHAT ABOUT ME? WHAT ABOUT RAVEN?"*
This guy really had some amazing moments that just never had the "biggest" stage. He's still awesome though
😄👍
What about me!?? What about Ravenn!!!
What about me?! What about Maven?!
Amazing match at Fall Brawl 98 between Raven & Saturn
Raven got himself over in spite of WCW. Watch any interview he does, he’s a great guy. I’m a big fan. He got Goldberg over HUGE
Will you be covering his TNA run as well? I thought he was pretty good around the time he won the NWA Title but they didn’t seem to use him well after that. His later TNA run was rough as well but it is still an interesting topic.
I enjoyed his TNA work probably the most. Title reign cut a little short but the Abyss and brother runt feud was great.
Raven is the first wrestler to ever get my attention as a kid.
Funny thing, Raven would argue with Bischoff for, seemingly, hours over who should be in 'The Flock'. He lost it at the Yeti suggestion. Ron over heard the argument and Raven had to explain. The Yeti snapped and vowed to never wrestle again.
Loved the Flock. Remember the fan attacked Raven in the ring lol
