I thought they said he had some issues going on with his wife and took time off...his last match was Halloween Havoc 98 where they wrote him off with an “injury”
The most frustrating thing about this time in WCW: WAY too many face and heel turns. Kevin Nash had the most here, going from face to heel after the Fingerpoke of Doom in January '99, then turning face again after DDP's heel turn and World Title win in April, then back to a heel after Hogan came back in July and beat Savage for the World Title. Then there was the Hogan and Flair double-turn at Uncensored (Flair turning heel, Hogan turning face).
Also while Hogan and Nash both turned Face in April, Scott Steiner who was still on tv despite not wrestling due to his injury still was coming out with the Wolfpac music was a heel and later inducted Rick into the Wolfpac even though it was over.
I felt like during the last 18 months or so of WCW (so pretty much the time when Russo was the booker), there were far too many "tweeners". And I felt like WCW wasn't listening to their fans at all as far as who should be a babyface and who should be a heel. An example is Goldberg. What was accomplished by turning him heel?
Well it was for Goldberg to get revenge on the wolfpac elite basically. Sting turning heel was to get revenge on Bret and hogan screwing him in 98 just didn’t execute lol
I think the main problem aside from a lot of the members being essentially groupies, just sitting and walking around backstage doing really nothing, was there was no strong babyface to oppose them. Goldberg got neutered and Sting was taking time off. No one else was built to join the main event scene at the time. So they were too overpowered and it became too one sided to hold enough fans' interest. It was different when the nWo first formed in '96 and were really fresh and exciting.
Fully agree with both these takes. Hart could’ve had some great matches in WCW and been a catalyst to main event storylines. Neither of those things happened.
They also had a red hot DDP, but I definitely understand what you're saying. Some of those nWo members should have actually been the opposition but it just became a giant circle jerk in the blink of an eye, brother!

Hulk and his damn ego killed WCW. He always had to be on top. This why Russo embarrassed him at Bash at Beach 00. 🤣🤣. I've notice while watching these reviews, McMahon controlled where Hulkamania was heading. That's why he really left in 93. He wanted to go somewhere where he had to be in control and WCW unfortunately gave him way too much lean way. When he came back 02, the left again because of his WM pay cut but it was really because he thought he was going to be in control in a roster with the likes of The Rock and Austin. Yeah Ok! Then 05 he wanted to go over Shawn, like wtf! That's why Shawn showed his ass how comedic he really look.
Agree, I always see people blame nash, bischoff and Russo for the end of wcw, sure they all played their part, but hogan from what I've read anyway, seems like he deserves the most blame
Hogan is the wrestling GOD brothers .... None of us would even be on here giving a damn if it weren't for the prayers and vitamins and a lil help from the hulkster upstairs....
The steroid scandal played a bigger part in Hogan leaving when he did but yes Vince didn't bow down to Hogan like Bischoff cuz he didn't need to. Yes he took his lumps in the subsequent years after Hogan, but eventually he righted the ship once Austin, Rock, DX, etc.. got big.
The WWF knew (usually) when it was time to end an angle. Stone Cold vs. Mr. McMahon was THE feud of the Attitude Era. But it was running out of steam by mid-1999 especially after Vince was revealed as the "Greater Power". So they did the smart thing and ended the feud at Fully Loaded 1999. WCW didn't seem to understand that the nWo was passe after three years of it.
Exactly right. They kind of shifted over to the McMahon-Helmsley regime later that year with the Rock being the main protagonist, especially once Austin went out. Of course by the time you get to WM 17 and Austin shaking hands with McMahon, that was officially the end of an era.

The most frustrating thing about the nWo (all of it's iterations) was that there was no obvious plan to end the angle. It was just one long regurgitated story which they tried to keep milking as long as possible. Eric on his podcast has talked about there being a beginning, middle, and end to angles before just as their are in any story. Well there was a beginning and a middle to the nWo---but no ending. WCW should have come together and finally ended the threat of the nWo once and for all. Hogan either going away for awhile and coming back as Hulkamania for "one last run" etc. But SOMETHING should have been done to end this and move on to other things. Eric has also admitted to being poor at match finishes---well this evident with all the run in and showed this. It's a shame because WCW NEEDED to "win" this war and they never did. Also Hogan continuing to wear black and white while supposedly the leader of the Wolfpac Elite :P
When Sting used the baseball bat to beat Hogan i find it hilarious that JJ Dillon called Stings actions despicable after everything that jj and the four horsemen spent years doing to Sting and others
One thing that always stood out during this time period and maybe a little before was that all the guys liked wearing their street clothes vs their wrestling gear. They liked showing off their Tommy Hilfiger jeans to look cool and were just there to deliver a promo. It was as if they didn't technically want to be there by not dressing in their wrestling gear. I don't know, maybe it was just me but that always felt off/odd.
(Seeing Hogan in his urban hip-hop gear)...He was walking down the beach looking for some action, Had his radio set on a rappin' rock station. Saw a girl drowning, sticking situations. She wanted him to give her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Disco Inferno deserved more. Not the heavy weight title, but he should’ve won more titles. Hogan was such a diva. He’s probably the 2nd biggest reason the WCW folded.
I still popped in to see what Sting was doing from time to time in 99 but after the FOD and the end of hollywood vs the wolfpack I was a full on wwf fan from there on out
“Hogan came out, well, wearing this.” Lol I always got a kick out of Hogans wannabe cholo look. I was also always confused with Lex Lugers involvement with the nWo Elite. Yeah he was a member of Wolfpack, but he spent most of the nWo’s lifespan feuding with Hogan, why would he want to be in the same faction as him? Sting and Lugers involvement in the Wolfpack never made sense to me either, but at least that was a baby face group. I always wondered what would have happened if Sting wasn’t injured when the two factions reunited. Great video, thank you once again a
Buff Bagwell was gifted into the nWo Eliteless . . . Lex Luger was a sore thumb in the group . . .Scott Norton was a joke in the group . . . Vincent was an all around EMBARRASSMENT in the group
I remember this like it was yesterday night. Running around my dads house. After giving my brother a jackknifing power bomb on the top floor of are house. Real great stuff buddy keep up the great work
Vincent was just a HUGE mistake in the nWo . . . He was used as a crash dummy-- getting beat up long enough to give Hogan, Nash, and Hall time to escape Thanks, Vincent-- for making NO memories of your time in the wrestling business
Nope. There was a time for certain things to happen in wrestling. But in this era...they try too hard. They try too hard to make wrestling like the past instead of trying to give us straight good storylines, feuds & matches. And even in today's wrestling, they can't find that magic. That certain magic that made wrestling so good back in the day. It's sad really. Most wrestling fans are desperately holding on trying to find some good in wrestling. I mean, sure we got some good wrestlers, storylines, feuds and matches (every once in awhile) but nope, it will never be this good again.
No. Sorry for the novel 1. Internet has made everything accessible. Meaning storylines are leaked and so are returns 2. Every storyline has been done. Its all re-hashed three times over now 3. Wrestlers had to draw based on TV time. Now it’s just based on a brand name like WWE. Meaning, the wrestler had to buy u in with their promos and or ring storytelling not like it is where the wrestler is monotone/like a robot reading off a script word for word because they work for WWE so they don’t have to worry about having a good match or promo because they know the audience just buys in because of the WWE name
Omg this NWO theme remix is awesome. I keep rewinding the video, just to listen to it again and again 😆 awesome content, as always Wrestling Bios 👍👍! !
Probably one of the best things they did during this entire debacle was getting Hogan back in the red and yellow. Not only did it signal his face turn, but it got a huge pop from the crowd, too. Sadly, this is still late WCW, and we know how all things go here.
I think Hogan layed down for Sting as a kind of F U to Russo as I think the writing was on the wall that Vince wanted to move away from the older talent and make new stars as they did in the WWF(E)
The nwo should had ended in 98 after starcade 97. Bret hart came over, Sting won the belt, and by that time NWO and the WCW really peaked. If not there, definitely after Goldberg beat Hogan
i didnt really notice back then (or if i did, ive forgotten), but there were a LOT of run ins during matches in wcw. could probly make a drinking game out of it
Sting was on the house show circuit in January 1999. Why they waited until April to put him back on TV is beyond me. He could have been used as a face to help balance things out. The other thing that made no sense was Bret Hart no longer being acknowledged as a member of the nwo after the Finger Poke.
Unless I'm mistaken Hogan's creative control clause gave him the ability to say whether he wins or loses the match he's booked in, not the ability to determine who he's booked with. And sure I get that he more than likely got to choose who he worked with most of the time but he was a huge star even in 1999, I doubt they'd say no.
They should have kept the membership down to Hogan , Hall , Nash , Steiner , Luger , Bagwell , Bishoff, Henning and Miss Elizabeth as how did a group call the Elite have members like Disco Inferno ?
Also of note and in true crazy booking, Souled Out had Flair and David vs returning Barry Windham and Hennig and ended with Hogan whipping David while Flair wept. It was a hell of a segment and sometime later near Uncensored, Flair has been acting more and more heelish/tweener in his feud with the nWo and Charles Robinson has been folded into the Horsemen as their ally and has been getting booed while Hogan has been getting some cheers again as Hollywood.
The idea for Goldberg to run through the NWO must have gotten thrown out very quickly once they moved into Ric Flair being the guy to go against Hogan, especially after Ric’s heel turn.
The problem with the nWo is that it was basically ALL WCW had going in terms of storylines at the time. There were a few things here and there, but nothing compared to the multiple, compelling angles WWF was running at the time. Even the strongest crutch breaks if you lean on it hard enough for long enough.
The finger poke of doom is so stupid because they could've got to the same point with much cleaner booking. Have Goldberg retain at Starcade. Have nWo Hollywood cut down to just Hogan, Bagwell, Steiner, Henning, Hall, and Norton. In storyline, it's written as Hogan getting frustrated. Have the Wolfpack continue as is. Goldberg continues to beat every nWo member in championship matches. Eventually, it appears that WCW is winning the war and the nWo is on its last legs. Then book a triple threat with Goldberg, Hogan, and Nash. Then swerve everyone with the nWo unification. Have the nWo capture all the titles. Then have a winner take all match at war games. WCW wins and the nWo is dead for good. No finger poke needed.
It's sad that Scott Hall never stepped up to lead the company. Just imagine a motivated, in shape, completely sober Scott Hall being the #1 guy in WCW during this time.

Yes he took his lumps in the subsequent years after Hogan, but eventually he righted the ship once Austin, Rock, DX, etc.. got big.
Its crazy how the nWo brought WCW to the top, then it brought them to the bottom WOW just WOW
Yup. Same thing that makes you laugh will make you cry 💯
I'm a die-hard WCW fan and I completely forgot 80% of this ever happened. Great video.
Me too....
I like it better this way.....
I'm happy to have missed these years.....
“Hogan showed up wearing, well wearing this”. Lol
I can't wait for the coverage of the Bash at the Beach incident.
Will you ever do japan angles? Like All Japan in the 90's ?? Id like to know more about it, but with you doing the work lol.. like Hulk Hogan in Japan... American wrestlers time in Japan
@@planescaped He could use photos rather than videos owned by TV Asahi and NTV
He did mention he would be doing a video on NWO Japan at some point
I never understood why there was a B team. Why would anyone want to be part of that?
@@bigjohnsbreakfastlog5819 There sure was a lot of wasted potential, you make some good points! I can't think of any other reason than what you said that would make any sense, the earning respect and climbing the ranks, but wait what Virgil?!? Lol he kicked his own ass.
Hogan walking around in Hip Hop Clothes with Baggy Pants - hysterical/sad - but I loved it.
Lol at "Hip-Hop Clothes"...
@@savharris5702 What was worse was watching Nash, Sting, Luger, Savage, etc coming down to the ring in The Wolf Pack to rap music. I get they were super over - but I always found it cringe worthy - old white men trying to act street. Black & White Express 4 Life baby!
You just beat me to leave that exact comment
Well ..."non-white" folks don't have a monopoly on hip-hop culture lol
I thought it made em look slick myself.
It's up to the individual to pull it off.
How about black wrestlers coming out to ...Non-Hip Hop music
... Does it make anyone cringe?
I am once again asking for your remixes in full length buddy, I‘d even buy them on Amazon. Incredible work man.
.Hogan is dressed like he's pretending to be homeless just to get a free bowl of soup
Damn, that's funny! 🤣 No way he was pulling off that Chollo/Gansta look!
He was. That’s why he forced the nwo to re-merge. For that free soup that he didn’t deserve.
Hogans dressed like he going as kurt cobane for holloween
Maybe a weed dealer lol
@@midnightmoon3230hahaha yes!!!
96-98 were nWo's best years.
what a delight to have you uploading on this lazy sunday, instant like for you always- I already know I'm in for a treat before clicking on your thumbnails
As a kid I was definitely confused about the NWO.... these videos always give me a “ohhh I see now” kind of feeling..... love em all!! Keep doin what u do! 💯💯🙏🏽🙏🏽
Sting was lucky to miss this. Though being injured still sucks
Reliving my childhood thro these videos 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥thank you @wrestlingbios
One thing that always stood out during this time period and maybe a little before was that all the guys liked wearing their street clothes vs their wrestling gear. They liked showing off their Tommy Hilfiger jeans to look cool and were just there to deliver a promo. It was as if they didn't technically want to be there by not dressing in their wrestling gear. I don't know, maybe it was just me but that always felt off/odd.
You did a pretty good job of sorting that mess out!
I always thought they could've worked those lower card nWo guys in the TV TITLE scene, especially Brian Adams and Scott Norton.
(Seeing Hogan in his urban hip-hop gear)...He was walking down the beach looking for some action,
Had his radio set on a rappin' rock station.
Saw a girl drowning, sticking situations.
She wanted him to give her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
They should of had "Donuts" Dillinger as the leader of the NWO. That would of saved them...
This dude stays dropping content! One of my favorite UA-cam channels 💯
Great content as always 🙂, It was quite a small lengthed rivalry but any chance of a Kane vs. Shane McMahon 2003 video In the near future? ✌️
That wolf pack song though!!! Its a bangger
💯
Hogan looked like he was new leader of the Flock dressed like that 😂
Dude , love your uploads . Keep em’ coming .
Dave Flair dancing as he tased someone is the funniest thing
9:25
Always love the content Wrestling Bios. Every upload brightens my day, thank you so much
Glad you enjoy it!
Disco Inferno deserved more. Not the heavy weight title, but he should’ve won more titles.
Hogan was such a diva. He’s probably the 2nd biggest reason the WCW folded.
I still popped in to see what Sting was doing from time to time in 99 but after the FOD and the end of hollywood vs the wolfpack I was a full on wwf fan from there on out
"It was revealed to be David Flair, no one cared about this" lmao
The finger poke of doom is when I officially jumped ship to WWF when I was a kid.
“Hogan came out, well, wearing this.”
Lol I always got a kick out of Hogans wannabe cholo look.
Great video, thank you once again a
It would have made things super interesting, Lex and Sting would have left together in my opinion.
The Wolfpack would have been better if it wasn't a babyface group I never could get behind it but I only pull for heels
Mr. Perfect was B team. But Buff Bagwell was elite. I never understood that
Buff Bagwell was gifted into the nWo Eliteless . . .
Lex Luger was a sore thumb in the group . . .Scott Norton was a joke in the group . . .
Vincent was an all around EMBARRASSMENT in the group
Vincent for WCW World Heavyweight Championship 😆
I would say Bishoff is to blame. He let Nash and Hogan basically take over. Always wanting to be the main man, not wanting to put anyone over.
Yes!!! Thank you, you’re the man!!
I remember this like it was yesterday night. Running around my dads house. After giving my brother a jackknifing power bomb on the top floor of are house. Real great stuff buddy keep up the great work
How TF was Virgil/Vincent still employed at this point? Dude got paid to do nothing
You always gotta have a black guy
He wrestled now and then on Saturday Night.. Maybe house shows?
Vincent was just a HUGE mistake in the nWo . . . He was used as a crash dummy-- getting beat up long enough to give Hogan, Nash, and Hall time to escape
Thanks, Vincent-- for making NO memories of your time in the wrestling business
Don't watch wrestling anymore but loved this era! Do you think wresting will ever get this good again?
Hell no it sucks now
Hell no the mystique is gone forever
No. Sorry for the novel
1. Internet has made everything accessible. Meaning storylines are leaked and so are returns
2. Every storyline has been done. Its all re-hashed three times over now
Not unless people stop being so easily offended like they are now
Omg this NWO theme remix is awesome.
Even as a High Schooler I wondered what wcw would look like when the nWo storyline ended...And it went exactly how I imagined 😔
Just like ROH when they lean on BC too much and were in rough shape last year.
Love your channel. Look forward to your videos all of the time. Especially Reliving The War. First thing I do every Thursday after work.
Best content man! I am glad a new episode is out
I think Hogan layed down for Sting as a kind of F U to Russo as I think the writing was on the wall that Vince wanted to move away from the older talent and make new stars as they did in the WWF(E)
The clips at around 03:00 Hennig is wearing Rick Rude's brown suit!
I remember him coming back out in red and yellow. His son was back stage talking to him the whole show. I FREAKED when that music came on.
The nwo should had ended in 98 after starcade 97. Bret hart came over, Sting won the belt, and by that time NWO and the WCW really peaked. If not there, definitely after Goldberg beat Hogan
i didnt really notice back then (or if i did, ive forgotten), but there were a LOT of run ins during matches in wcw. could probly make a drinking game out of it
I LOVE YOU!!! THnx for the WCW/NWO videos, I'm re-living my childhood!!!😎
Sting was on the house show circuit in January 1999. Why they waited until April to put him back on TV is beyond me. He could have been used as a face to help balance things out.
The other thing that made no sense was Bret Hart no longer being acknowledged as a member of the nwo after the Finger Poke.
Another great video, as always, my friend. Thank you for your work.
Jan 99 WCW is almost unrecognizable from Aug 99 WCW
"our story begins on Thunder..."
- alright, nuff said
"This being wrestling, the retirment didn't last long!"
Correction: this being WCW, the retirment didn't last long!
Brilliant as always my man! Great watch
This whole video could have all been summed up with “that doesn’t work for me, brother.”
So excited for this episode, thank you my friend
Wrestling bios - "Thank you for watching"
Me - Your welcome 💯👍💪💁
Wow he named a who's who in the NWA pro wrastlin hogan couldn't cary dory funk, flair, harley or dusty rhodes ring bag.
I never cared for NWO elite but I loved the original NWO and NWO Wolfpac.
I liked the storyline because of the NWO B squad getting clowned.
Ok..
thanks for telling us
Unless I'm mistaken Hogan's creative control clause gave him the ability to say whether he wins or loses the match he's booked in, not the ability to determine who he's booked with. And sure I get that he more than likely got to choose who he worked with most of the time but he was a huge star even in 1999, I doubt they'd say no.
Great job, as always.
You should do a series on Curt Henning rise and fall with his runs in the AWA , WWF , WCW , wwe return and his tna runs
He already made a Mr Perfect video
Markyd123 did his wwf return and tna run going through each match. I recommend
They should have kept the membership down to Hogan , Hall , Nash , Steiner , Luger , Bagwell , Bishoff, Henning and Miss Elizabeth as how did a group call the Elite have members like Disco Inferno ?
Wow it's true what they say hogan just would not allow anyone to pin him without 10 people interfering
Nash is a tough guy to continue to wrestle in matches with a torn quad in order to make up for the rest of the big names being out with injuries.
