Here Raven discusses his time in the WWF (now WWE) and how he felt after finding out that his character was not going to be used much. Raven returned to WWF with an established character that gained a huge following in WCW & ECW, thinking this would be his moment to finally reach his full potential. But Vince McMahon and the WWE had different plans.
Shortly after debuting to a monstrous pop, Raven was pushed further and further down the card to the point where he was almost exclusively seen on Sunday Night Heat. Raven was not done justice in WWE and here is why he thinks it happened. Also, hear the story about Vince McMahon allegedly asking in a board meeting where the **** did they hire Raven back!
Raven has truly done it all in our great sport and his intellect and ability to paint those stories with words was on display as he discussed his early days in the business. What lead him to the WWF and why the "Johnny Polo" character never got its legs.
He then talks about the eventual road that would lead him to his most defined persona and how he would eventually end up in Extreme Championship Wrestling. Were the stories that we have heard of the ECW counter culture true?
Only Raven can lay the roadmap of the most defining years of career. The highs, the lows and the eventual downfall of the most revered company in history. He speaks of his eventual departure from ECW and talks of his runs in both the WCW & WWE. He speaks of his lowest points as his out of the ring behavior spun out of control. Raven was the face of the 90s man, his gimmick was literally the 90s
Unfortunately, I think that the Johnny Polo gimmick cemented Scott Levy as a heel manager in the WWE, with no ability to succeed as a talent on the main roster.
Makes sense why WWE didnt push him then as he signed in 2000.
Austin always says WWE dropped the ball with Raven. He said it multiple times. That says something
@Bryan Mack I remember that match perfectly. It was a hardcore match Mick Foley set up and apparently the first time Undertaker had ever competed in one match. I remember cause it was one of the few times they actually let him cut a promo reminiscent of his ECW/WCW days. I'll never forget that image of him getting last ride through the announce table. Yeah they definitely treated him like garbage

He got to be on the card of Wrestlemania 17. One of the best ppv's ever.
And one of the best matches from that PPV. I remember his match with kane and show, and the TLC match. Those two stand out to me. And limp bizkit lol

How does anybody not love this guy?
That’s the perfect example of his incredible intellect and also his personal humbleness, he was confident in himself and his character but realized later on he screwed himself, despite not having creative control his own actions in the moment torpedoed his own run.
Raven is smart, most people around him were not as smart and he didnt care to massage their ego. If you do this, you are never going anywhere in any workplace unless you are just impossibly good at your job.

Kane chasing Raven with big slow in a golf cart was classic!
I wasn't expecting much from that match but it was pretty good. Yeah when Kane threw Big Show through the glass that was classic! Probably the best Hardcore match I've seen especially at a Wrestlemania
I saw it live. It was amazing. The energy from that match was totally under estimated
The reason why it tends to get overlooked was because of the fact that it was at Wrestlemania 17. Arguably one of the best WWE pay per views of all time.
Best hardcore title matches:anything with crash holly, summerslam 99 and fully loaded 99, mania 17, backlash 2000 and 2001,insurextion 2002, no way out 2001, invasion 2001, summerslam 01, hardcore battle royal mania 16. Shane vs blackman, unforgiven 2000. Vengeance 2001. Al snow vs road dogg(in the snow,). Mankind vs big boss man ladder match.

Raven has a tremendous mind for professional wrestling. His creative take on matches and such was fantastic. His personality was often misunderstood. I enjoy listening to him talk wrestling, personally.

Im literally watching Raven's debute on WCW, June 30, 1997, and i been waiting for this since i started watching the reruns of Nitro and Raw.
One of the most underutilized guys ever - his mics skills were up there with the best
Raven is the most fascinating person to ever set foot (or in his case, talon) in a wrestling ring.
Raven was great, but Johnny Polo was the drizzling sh*ts. The WWE buried Scott Levy before he had the opportunity to prove himself as a wrestling talent.

Loved the hardcore match he was in at mania 17. Kane won the match and I was a huge Kane fan, but raven was a great heel. I say he is one of the top heels of the 90's.

ECW and Heyman knew how to market Raven. TNA probably second.
WCW too. The whole Flock angle was actually pretty entertaining.
His WCW character was great too... It fit in for the time with the whole rebel attitude of 90s youth.

I always enjoy these interviews. WWE wasted so much WCW talent back then. Its infuriating to think about. So glad Sting resisted for so long. Though even he got wasted when it eventually did come.
I'm not a huge mark for Sting or anything, but I will never understand the point of having Triple H beat Sting at Wrestlemania. Made zero sense. Even so many years after the end of the Monday Night Wars, Vince and Trips apparently still had an axe to grind.

That's stings fault . He could of been a multi time champ if he would of came to wwe in 01 . Story line wise it made NO sense for sting to be hhh . Hhh made a career putting wcw guys like sting on the shelf
^^^ they buried and fired Buff Bagwell immediately one of the only O.G WCW guys they had in the Invasion storyline, then ruined DDP.. Also, if you look back on 2001 Booker T lost, got beat up and embarrassed most of the year so I can see why Sting didn't trust them.

Raven was very badass. His TNA days just showed how interesting his gimmick was. Constantly made great promos while making great matches in the ring which is very rare these days in WWE lol
That's crazy. I started watching WCW more after I got WCW vs NWO Revenge for N64. I never seen Raven previously to that but he was on the cover and he looked badass and I always used him in the game. The whole Ravens flock thing was awesome and also gave us Kidman.

Raven was one of the coolest characters in the game. WWE really blew it because that was really a gimmick that got over everywhere else. It was used greatly in ECW of course, but WCW and Raven's Flock was a cool stable that they underused there I thought, and WWE just totally dropped that gimmick. Raven's Flock could have been a hell of a stable in WWE.
a version of the Raven's Flock over in WWE would have been great. Raven's work in WcW was top tier, it was indeed a huge miss to pass up on him.
Kidman should have teamed with Raven in WWF/E. At least for a short run.

I don't know who the guy is interviewing Raven, but he's great! What a breath of fresh air. I love listening to stars talk about their time in wrestling with someone who respects them and isn't trying to embarrass anyone. The YouShoot series is tasteless and disrespectful to the business. The guy doing those interviews tries to get everyone to talk about what so-and-so is like in bed; how big their dicks are; and outing people who use drugs.
THIS interview series is great and I'm going to check out more of it. The interviewer seems to genuinely respect the people he's talking to. The guy's talented and very focused. A+
He seems like one of the few sane guys in wrestling you can talk to about many topics and get an intellegent answer. I liked him in WCW and the hardcore devision was pretty nice.
Raven in WCW was very entertaining. All those so called midcarders were the best matches hands down

WWF/E is just as famous for the amazing talent they've squandered as the amazing talent they've fostered. Having Raven and others from WCW SHOULD have been a case of "Oh no.. we have all the superstars now, how are we ever going to manage!". One guy's ego can poison so many lives.

Raven was such a talent he wasted in the WWE. Raven had the tools but did not have the roster to take him along the way to greatness.
Raven deserves to be in the HOF enough said its long overdue.
It's a crying shame because this guy was so talented. His rivalry with DDP for the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship was easily one of my top 5 favorite feuds of the Monday Night Wars era.
I'm not saying he should've won the WWE championship, but he should've at worst been a multi time Intercontinental Champion and always in contention for the main title but never winning it ala Roddy Piper or Jake Roberts.
I agree, but I like his feud with Benoit even better than the DDP one. Also, I think he should have been WCW WH champion. WCW has been (rightly) criticised for keeping old guys at the top of the card whilst not pushing the younger ones....well I think Raven should have been higher up the card.

Raven is 1 of the best of all time for a lot of reasons. His WCW theme... one of the top 10 themes EVER, his unique gimmick was so different from anything else in the history of the business, thats 100% top 10 too. And he's one of the only guys to win championships in all 4 core promotions in the USA that existed during his career, WCW, ECW, WWF/E, and TNA.
Never seen Raven talk you can tell he's a real cool guy.

Vince may have hated him, but he's the most decorated champion in wwf/e history!!! He was vastly under used...a great mind that even the best mind in the business(Dusty Rhodes) said he Scott could book any show easily or be a champion anywhere. Scott was a vastly better cm punk before punk ever laced his boots up

Raven bounced around alot like Bam Bam Bigelow and went from Promotion to Promotion. WCW treated Raven the best cause his battles with DDP was some of the best matches ever.
