Over the years he would be involved in the ECW triple threat faction, become a standout Cruiserweight star and a member of the Four Horsemen in WCW, and he made an incredible impact during The Radicalz WWF debut. When Malenko was finished in the ring, he became a road agent for the WWE, a job role he kept for 18 years. Today, Dean Malenko is a senior producer for All Elite Wrestling.

Dean was one of, if not the most, underrated wrestlers of all time.
Why he never got big? No personality.
No he's rated just fine. Great in the ring, but boring on the mic.
Shaq Yardie i thought it was professional wrestling? Had no idea it was professional talking on a microphone.
No doubt about that statement
*overrated
The man of 1000 holds. One of the best ever.
Right behind the man of 1004 holds
@@joehooker7522 4. Arm bar
Chris jerhico the man of 1001 holds lmfao
one of my favorites and one of the most underrated of all time.
One of my favorites as well. I wrestled in high school and imagined myself walking to the mat like he did.
He is a man of few words. He did his talking in the ring. One of the most solid and no-nonsense wrestlers ever.
Man of a thousand holds and I don't think I've ever seen him use them all throughout his career he had the Texas cloverleaf as his finishing move and every time I made a character for newer wrestling games I model my character after his move set
Dean's 2 out of 3 falls match with Eddy Guerrero (a farewell from ECW for both) was one of the greatest matches I've seen in nearly 40 years of watching wrestling. Malenko is _criminally_ underrated.
I didnt catch the parkinsons news; but damn that sucks. Dean was my favorite guy in wcw. I was never bored watching him work. He was amazing.
@tenebrous soul Benoit got recognition in the wrong way
Same. Just now heard about it from this video.
Him and Lance Storm were amazing at the craft. Loved them both.
They were many more steve regal ric flair ect my favourite was kendo Nagasaki
That Texas Cloverleaf was awesome
Dean was one of the best wrestlers I ever saw. He was totally midcard, but many of the midcarders were the greatest ring technicians that brought the fans back time and time again and really gave wrestling a good name as a sport.
Honestly, the midcard was were the real talent was. Most superstars were just brawlers, but the midcard were the best. They brought it.
He was a tough technical wrestler back on the day! I will never forget "The Mn of 1000 Holds"
I liked the whole Iceman gimmick
Only 4 holds less than the GOAT
@@bigstupidgrin that whole 1004 holds gimmick Jericho did was a good way to get him noticed, I enjoyed the feud he and Malenko had
Dean Malenko, William Regal and Jamie Noble are all underrated Legends.
Only caught the tail end of his in-ring career but even then. I could tell he never lost a step in the ring. One of the greatest technicians of all time and a great mind too. Thank you for giving him the respect he deserves, especially at what must be a very difficult time for him.
Great when wrestlers was had real wrestling skills
Dean malenko was & still is one of the best technical wrestlers of his & any generation 👍😎👍
Man, Malenko was incredibly talented in the ring. Everyone of his matches was a technical masterpiece.
Likely the best technical wrestler to come out of WCW and not find longstanding success in WWE.
A true legend.
Deano Machino. Very underrated. My adoptive grandfather had Parkinson's disease, I wish Dean well.
Dean malenko
Dean’s wrestling skill was off the charts, but only if he could talk; maybe he could have been world champ.
If ROH existed back then he could have been. In WCW and WWF where a small guy was 240lbs, no chance.
@@handsolo1209, very true. WWE was so blind. Eddie was small and so was Rey while they were both world champs. Look at their fan base to Latin community. Vince had to give them the gold to make a lot of money.
Why talk when your here to wrestle lol I think that’s his mind set
L.R.E. LoungeRoomEntertainment, with a good promo you help build the match. Example: Rock vs. Austin promo. Check this out: ua-cam.com/video/s45MDU54otU/v-deo.html this help build the Wrestlemania making one of the biggest draws ever. More money.
Dean Malenko was a beast in the ring.
Dean Malenko was my favorite wrestler in WCW during that time... Thanx!!!
Dean was an in ring genius. That cruiserweight division in WCW was a talent pool that did not get the exposure or credit it deserved for so many great technical wrestlers and matches.
"The Ice Man" Insane Clown Posse named one of their Joker card albums The Great Milenko after Deans dad Boris.
I wondered about that
The Man of a Thousand Holds. One of my all time favourites.
Seriously underrated I loved his work in ECW and WCW, his WWE run could have been better he should have had a title besides the lightweight championship
He was the height that he was, those 4 guys were all of that height. If WCW stayed around, and under competent control, if they didn't try to win Monday night wars, but stayed as a wrestling alternative... They'd be able to do a month or 2 for cruisers to be the main event. Trust me, it works in Japan, and it'd catch on. I watched WCW 96 stuff today, even those great matches they ruin by other trash inserted. What's done is done. AEW should have went back to the pure roots. There's clearly a lack of it in the U.S. Instead they did a circus. Since WWE is a king of the clown-shows, they won't compare to it, and shouldn't try to...
Dean is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. His technical style just always grabbed my attention even as a kid and teenager.
Great technical wrestler! Great Addition to the 4th Horsemen in 1998. One of the the strong backbones in WCW.
Growing up I used to call Malenko the Bruce Willis of wrestling.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good thing he retired before entering his straight-to-DVD phase of his career
That's what I've been trying to let ppl know ever since that Dean always looks like the wrestling version of Bruce Willis.
I thought he was the tony shaloub of wrestling lol
This guy was so good, you could never say that if you've seen one Dean Malenko match then you've seen them all, because he always did different moves.
He was great when working with someone like Jericho who had the personality to make it in to a storyline.
Dean,Benniot, and ultimo dragon were some of my favorites back then.He was an exciting wrestler that the younger crowd can learn from
Absolute legend so underrated and just a great great person in and out of the ring.... Has never got the recognition he deserves yet is probably one of the safest wrestlers ever... Thanks for putting this together it's about time he got the recognition he deserves and so tragic to learn that he has parkinsons hopefully he can keep it under control and finds the right balance so that he can continue to live his life the way he likes to
The fact that he got a big WCW and then WWF paychecks is plenty recognition that he was one of the best midcard "carpenters" of his generation.
Hell yes dude. Dean deserves so much credit. Well done.
WWE Sabotaged his character with the ladies man gimmick. Malenko was a hardcore cold bloodied dynamic technition.
I was about to disagree with you.....but you describes dean melenko to the T
Calvin Miller+ I do agree to me it was the final nail in the coffin for Dean when they gave him the ladies man gimmick I'm like wtf
Or he was 41 at the time and clearly in the tail end of his career. not wanting to invest in someone who may only be around for a couple years while also having decade younger stars
wwe did no such thing. he couldnt get over as a star at wcw too. hes a technician, they dont usually get over. just look at chad gable
Zaf mo+ but to me he was much better in wcw bcuz wcw left him for what he is c'mon giving him the ladies man gimmick especially people who seen what he did in wcw gtfoh even he lack of the charisma putting him in a gimmick that truly did not fit him idgaf if he was over or not
Technical as hell and underrated as hell. ... J
Whenever Dean was in the ring, I paid attention. Always worth watching.
WrestlingBios video notification pops, it's a no brainer I instantly press play.
Facts bro👍🏿
I'm late to the show, but I want to say "thank you" for showing Dean some love! He was truly one of my top 5 wrestlers on WCW.....a great person and professional inside and out of the ring!
Loved Dean, his top rope gutbuster was a thing of beauty!!
Loved when Chris Jericho called him stinko Malenko
And Deano Machino
Number 3 Armbar 🤪
and I call him Chris Jerko
@Martin luther Kennedy III when he was cyclope in disguise lmao brillant
@Martin luther Kennedy III Cut from commercial and he was 7 hundred odd me and my mate were rolling around his living room laughing or heads of 🤣
His matches in wcw were so good usually the best of the night, most main event matches back then always had nwo and interference which became boring and repeatative
Very true
But most audience found what you preferred boring
I could build an entire league from this guy's style
ROH did. It sucks.
@@draganlojanicich2604 - In terms of height and charisma they have it by the bucket full. In terms of being actually trained in how to be a pro wrestler, I agree.
Many thanks sir, for this one. Dean Malenko was one of my favorite wrestlers, and that video, was the one i was mostly waiting for, that's for sure.
as a young fan who mostly loves technical wrestling, dean is an underated gem
Dean was like 1 of 5 wrestler you knew would go into a match but on a show and kill it. He was so good
Ok the opening made me super sad and how the hell is Dean not note worthy WTF
97’ Jericho disliked this 9 times 😂
They were great friends, Malenko taught him and Benoit too. there's an awesome interview on talk is Jericho.
He was such a great wrestler, When ever you saw this guy you knew you were in for a good match.
The thing I always liked about Dean was how he was a technical wrestler & because of that it made him stand out in the Cruiserweight Division because he wasnt a flashy high flyer like the luchadors were.
Loved dean as a kid I always walked around doing his manuerisms with my wrists and loved watching his matches . As a kid he was one of the few wrestlers I had an attention span for even with no real gimmick. Thanks for all contributions dean!
What sad news a truly underrated wrestler one Of my Favorite wrestlers of the 90’s
He was my fav radical loved watching him
Whenever the cruiserweights were on display in WCW, I felt like I could relate to these wrestlers. Dean was fun to watch.
One of the most top underrated wrestlers of all time!!!!👍👍👍👍The man with a 1000 holds!!!!
One of my favorites...so under appreciated. Prayers to Dean
The man of a thousand holds " The Iceman " Dean Malenko !!. Loved every match he was ever in. He was so damn great at what he did that he always had a entertaining match
My Hero!!!!!
The greatest period!!!!
MEGATRON WAY APPROVED 🤘
Thanks for this...one talent I dont know much about. Great start to a Dean deep dive tonight.
I always did respect Dean Milenko! Such an underrated badass!! He was a legit grappler and all around gentleman in and out of the ring.
Prayers dean ❤🙏 Definitely one of the best in ring wrestlers of all time
Awesome! Dean was always one of my favorites. Could work any style.
Dean deserves more recognition. He is one of the best pure technical wrestlers in the world, and his bouts against guys like Rey, Benoit, and Eddie are fantastic.
PWI #1 in 1997 and was amazing this is a great video glad I found this
One of my favorite bios. This is truly one of the best wrestlers to ever hit the mat. I was a huge Iceman fan in the WCW days and have nothing but total respect for him. Thank you for this bio.
Even after his in-ring career, he continued to give to future generations. Whether younger fans know it or not, Dean Malenko has had a hand in developing wrestlers for over two decades.
I remember watching malenko as a kid and I was a big fan. I feel like I connected with him because he was usually more quiet and just came in and did his job letting his work speak for him. I was always a quiet kid, but would work hard so it was great to see a guy who wasn't so obnoxious succeeding
One of my favorite wrestlers of all time.
He´s the best technical wrestler and the best at selling and the best at in-ring movement.
For me Dean is one of the GOATS
Watching him wrestle was a treat.
Dean's kind of wrestling is what I loved about him. In some ways he reminded me of Mike Graham who I also loved watching as well as the legendary Eddie Guerrero!!!
8:22 I still have that PWI issue! Dean was/is awesome
Oh yeah, I forgot all about him being #1 in the 1997 PWI 500! That was quite an accomplishment! 1997 was certainly a good year for WCW! I was always a big fan of the Dean Malenko, & am sad to hear of him suffering from Parkinson's.
PWI 500 was total kayfabe. It means nothing. Malenko with Jericho carrying him had a brilliant feud in 1997, but if any "magazine" thinks anyone not called Sting or Hollywood Hogan wasn't the #1 in 1997, then damn!
The man of a 1000 holds!!! Always wondered why he never got his due. We’re pulling for you Dean🙅🏾♂️💯🔥
Dean Malenko really deserves to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He had a solid career and won numerous Championships. My only issue with Malenko is how was he No-1 for the PWI 500 in 1997 (not HBK, not Hogan, not Undertaker) that will never make any sense.
Dean is an amazing in ring technician can't wait for this video
i haven't watched pro wrestling in about 20 years, but when i watched it everyday in the 90s dean malenko and chris benoit were my absolute favorites. it's a bummer to hear that he has parkinsons.
Dean malenko was the character I always picked to beat up on in wcw games I’ll never forget those iceberg spandex lol. Still he’s a big part of my childhood guy is a legend!
Those dean malenko vs Ray Mysterio matches in wcw were unbelievable
You hear the phrase "a student of the game" thrown around people like Triple H, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero etc...but few wrestlers actually EMBODY that phrase. Dean has an almost magical way of breaking humans and all we can do is enjoy it while it lasts.
My Favorite Technical Wrestler, of all times Severally Underrated in his Prime should've been A World Champion in his Hayday, loved Malenko's Catch Wrestling Style I hated his WWF Run with being all Obsessed with Lita . Malenko Couldn't easily been in a Junior legend in NJPW. I'm giving this a thumbs up fantastic job.
If you thought Malenko should have been world champion in the 90's you must have been watching a different show. Rock, Austin, Undertaker and co are some of the most larger than life characters of all time and Dean was ten steps behind them as an all around talent. He was a great wrestler but that wasn't why people were tuning in back then. He would have stunk out the building every week if he was world champion.
@@SonnyK248 its called in opinion?!?..
He could wrestle, but that's about it.
Boring as hell and absolutely not Main Event worthy in any company!
Wowwwwwwww.......The hate here 4 this man, is sad! Smmfh
He was a great wrestler but he lacked character the reason his other radicalz teammates Eddie, Benoit and even Saturn had more success is because they could wrestle almost just as well but also had decent or in Eddie's case incredible characters the one thing that limited Malenko is his inability to have a character
My favorite wrestler ever. To me dean will always be the greatest technical wrestler. His ecw and wcw run is what made me a lifetime fan, but it's a shame that wwe didn't know what to do with him. He will always be my hero....
Dean Malenko is a top 20 wrestler of all time.
One of the greatest mat technicians of all time. Dean Malenko vs Bret or Owen Hart would have been an amazing match up at PPV event.
Malenko ,Lance Storm ,Benoit ,Regal..Best Technicians... EVER.. You could even throw Bob Holly in there
Verne Gagne, Billy Robinson, Karl Gotch, Baron Von Raschke, Kurt Angle all say "Hi".
Hand Solo okay.... Angle for sure... And maybe I shouldve said Modern Era..
@@handsolo1209 Huh you do know that Gotch TRAINED Dean Malenko(as well as getting trained by Boris Malenko), Joe Malenko(SEVEN YEARS training with Gotch), Debbie Malenko(the ONLY FEMALE STUDENT of Gotch), Norman Smiley, etc?! Boris Malenko would teach his wrestlers pro wrestling while Karl Gotch would train them in the LEGIT/SHOOT versions of those moves from catch wrestling.
Can never forget him. He was the John McLane to me of wrestling. He "died" hard as Bruce Willis in the ring. Really enjoyed watching him growing up
Thanks for this video. Malenko was always one of my favourites..."The Iceman of a Thousand Holds." A.E.W. is blessed to have him on board.
Dean’s feud with Chris Jericho was epic!!
He may know a thousand holds but Jericho knows 1004
Dean is my favorite pro wrestler
I remember seeing Dean for the first time and being amazed at how smooth and crisp he was in the ring. If he was 6 foot 5 instead of how tall he actually is he would have been a multiple time world champ, as long as he had someone to speak for him. Promos not really his thing.
My favorite wrestler ever!
I wasn't very familiar with or appreciative of Dean Malenko until I began watching your "Reliving the War" series.
In my WWE fanboy days, I knew his name at most, and it's only all these years later that I could recognize his incredible talent.
So underrated
Dean Malenko, Jerry Lynn, Brian Pillman, Jake Robert, and raven are criminally underrated.
Best in the business. Man of a 1000 holds
The man!!! Thank you for this video. Loved Dean in wcw
I appreciate and respect Dean Malenko.
I am sure I have a copy of that PWI 500 magazine in the loft
Same here.👍
Good content! Dean Malenko AKA the man of 1000 holds doesn't get the credit that he damn deserves. Underrated technical wrestler.
Up there in top 3 Technical wrestlers of all time hands down.
Awesome! I've been waiting for this one for awhile now. Thank U Soo Much! Luv Ur videos!!
The Shooter. A legit guy with legit chops.
Very underrated wrestler
One of my favorite wrestlers! Dude didn't say much but when he put the Cloverleaf on it said it all.
