- My parents have a nice little bench next to the front door. It's 8 years old and exposed to any kind of weather all the time. Now it needed some care and new boards. In the video, I show the disassembly, the making of the new boards, and the reassembly. This video was also sponsored by Bosch Professional. I wish tool makers like Bosch would incorporate both battery and plug in power as options. You could get the best of both worlds, plug the tool in for max power when in the shop, and run it on batteries at jobsites.
Dewalt did that.

@@pseudosam2458 The ones with two 60v flex batteries IIRC. Since it's just a universal motor it runs on AC or DC.
you would need a 100A poweradapter - that would cost a lot of money.
I love battery powered tools (and battery powered cars haha). It’s really impressive how fast they’re improving. The bench looks great!

Cutting the boards, 25 minutes, restoring the bench, 1 hour, testing the saw, 2 hours, cleaning the shop, 1 week lol. Nice video as always.

here goes me wiping my tear away as I just recently purchased (for me a very expensive item for my diy workshop) a 150 euro Einhell sliding miter saw only to realize the damn thing cant even cut straight edges and I have to fine tune the "zero" mark on the angle gauge to somewhere between zero and one using a quickangle and only then did the edge cut was moraless straight with deflection of 1 mm over 30 cm length.... I want expensive tools too ;( not for my broke ass lol last year with the help of my girlfriend I bought a 800 euro hikoki table saw and it was the saving grace for my sanity as I sued to do my table saw cutting on a 50 euro tiny 800w table saw that was flush mounted into a huge OSB table top and the fence was a piece of aluminum with two wing nuts at both edges... Your videos Marius are the saving grace for me

Great little project replacing the wood on the bench, but I would also have sprayed the metal parts with a good rust paint like Tremclad.

It might work better for the sponsor if they gave him tools to test that are within the budget of ordinary people. At 180 GBP just for the big battery I don't think many viewers will be considering adding this saw to their workshops.

With the cordless ability, it must be quite "the one" for the mobile woodworker.
Especially if you already have a few of the battery system. (like me). And if you don't have a high production rate, the speed seems to be adequate.
Now for the lawn, it is not befitting the renovated bench.

In my opinion you should be aware of the play in the arm movement. A lot of miter saws have play in the arm movement and it is a disadvantage. A miter saw is supossed to cut at a specific angle but with play the angle or the cut itself gets crooked. You apply downwards force AND push the blade towards the wood and the wood will apply tension to the blade and arm - and with that play the blade will be able to cut crooked. I searched the miter saw market for a very long time but I finally found a battery powered Dewalt miter saw with absolutely no play. I bought it instantly. Nice to have you back :-)
I have a number of Bosch tools, some corded, some battery powered and I absolutely love them. Thanks for the great review on the Miter saw. I've been looking at it with great envy trying to convince myself that I need it but it's more of a "wish I had it". Great video as always. Thanks.
I wonder if Bosche sends different tools to different markets? I've had several "blue" Bosche tools here in New Zealand including a sliding compound mitre saw, and they've been terrible. Some only lasted a couple of years, and all were badly designed (e.g. the mitre lock on the saw kept coming loose). The ones that didn't break I ended up giving away for free, as they were so lousy that I couldn't in all conscience sell them. Plus Bosche only have a two year trade warranty here (other brands give six years). And yet I have relatives in the UK who think Bosche tools are wonderful, and wouldn't use anything else. Very mysterious!
@@davidhaywood8029 Interesting that you say that. My Bosch tools here in Canada have been heavily used for years when I was doing home Reno work for folks after I retired and even now they are still going strong. Makes one wonder doesn't it.

Nice rejuvenation The miter saw is quite interesting. I hope you'll use it and give a report on how well it holds up with time - I'm thinking particularly about the flexing issue.

Having the corded version of that saw I can vouch for the glide mechanism. This battery version seems like a problem looking for a solution; if it's that big it should have a cord and if it's meant to be portable it should only be as big as it needs to be to cut a 2x6 or maybe 2x8. I like your cat too!
Maybe Bosch wants a platform to showcase their new motor-technologie. I wish they'd do that with a router or a chainsaw

I think the difference in speed on the Bosch has more to do with the ability do clean the dust out of the kerf than the difference in thickness. With a table saw dust will be cleared far easier, because you cut from the bottom.
Battery technology has really come a long way. You should show your cat more in these vids ;) I’m sure the UA-cam algorithm would like that haha! Great vid Marius!
Let the blade stop on the mitre saw before moving lifting the blade away. Always good videos.
Did the same thing for my Mother in Laws garden Seat. I used a varnish for finish but was disappointed with the durability of the finish. My cheap mains sliding chop saw mounted on a portable stand, with folding legs works well, but does take up a lot more space.

Hi. I have a Bosch GCM 12 GDL, and I love it. The only thing I am not satisfied with on my miter saw is that, no matter how much I adjust the precision, when we fix the angle with the locking knob, there is a little deflection, which does not leave the cut in the precision that I would like. I would like, if possible, that you also check this on your miter saw. Thanks, and congratulations for your videos.
I have the same issue. I guess they only swapped the motor and the rest of the saw stayed the same

The flex is the same as the GCM 12 GDL, which is okay if you don't push down to hard.
"I'm not wasting good lumber..." OSB at this time is one of the most expensive "wood" on the market!! 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah Marius, be careful be careful with the small battery. Despite the safety measures in place, those lithium cells can go into thermal runaway is over exerted enough! Lovely bench!

That is a very nice saw. It would be lovely if it could be used both as a battery saw and a mains power unit in the workshop. You were asking a lot of it cutting that chipboard. What other tools can you get that use the new batteries?
A nice little project. Did you consider spraying some wax oil or other anti rust treatment inside the metal frames. They looked nice quality and worth protecting.
I just had four screws and two rods up in my L4, L5, and S1 so my days of making large projects are over. I am doing signs, cutting borards now. I've wanted one of these corded saws but it is just not in the budget.

@@MariusHornberger Old injury from my days when I was a Police K-9 handler, took a dog on and he twisted me and popped my L4, L5. That was in 1993 and I nursed it with shots and meds until it finally gave out in 2020, I had a good run.

The saw looks awesome, but the dust collection not so much. I enclosed my blade almost entirely and put brushes around the bottom so that the dust doesn’t even escape the saw.
Can't really judge that here, because Marius took the dust collection off to maximize cutting capacity

Could you please tell me what chuck you use in your drill press?
When you compare the same exact designed corded saw (GCM 12 GDL) to the Biturbo it is the actual competitor to be beaten because they are not only the same design on the gliding mechanism but the same basis of a saw... your tablesaw has still 50% extra power left so no chance for it to stall out that sawblade, however on the (from what I remember on the battery gliding saw) direct driven sawblade you stall it out easily with the not perfect blade for this cut...
...so it was not the fairest of comparations but still pretty impressive to see a 3kW beast and a battery powered "bite like a 2 kW beast" compete... so yeah... it is true... this thing has got some power... and is good if you are on lots of jobsites with no electric power available during your products (especially when you got the 8 or 12 Ah batteries).
Bosch actually does not recommend to use any battery below 8 Ah on this tool... because you run the risk of reducing the life of the cells within the battery.
I'd still go for the corded version... it is on my list, as it is a stationary tool for me and my "jobsites" most of the time do have at least enough place for a extensioncord to be laid out... and it is a lot cheaper 😁
During the whole Corona spectacle, I also had time to put some things back in order .....

One sheet of plywood used to be $20 in January, now it's $70
My parents bought the wood before prices exploded. Also my last sheet-good purchase was before that. But lumber in the hardware store roughly doubled in price
Here in Germany it is the same like in the US, if you can get any lumber at all.

A word of warning, if you try to do this with the cast iron bench ends, each hole is liable to be differently placed, i.e. drilled by eye... I’ve done two this year.
Why were the bolts rusty on one side of the bench but not the other?
I guess because the bench was sligthly out of level and the water always dropped off the same side

If you dont work in a factory that you have to saw boards quickly due to high production volume the speed is meaningless.
True, but this specs were written by a marketing department so it's a good idea to check if they actually line up:
"Brushless motor powered by ProCORE18V battery delivers cordless power equal to 2000 W corded mitre saw"
(A 2000 Watt brushless motor outputs 2000W. There is no need to compare it to a 2000 Watt corded mitre saw except if you don't want to tell the customer what type of motor is has).
That Bosch miter saw looks like a "HOT HONEY"!
A fluff piece, paid for by Bosch. Doing this project without the Bosch saw would have easy and more interesting.

Das ist so die typische Bank, die man irgendwo ums Haus rum haben sollte. Die Akku-Kappsäge hat mich nicht überzeugt. Sowas kann man nur im Freien verwenden. Und inhouse braucht man keinen Akku.

Comparing cutting speed between a table saw and a miter saw is not appropriate. They're intended for very different types of cutting. It's also inappropriate to compare a battery powered tool to a mains powered tool.
