Sister: "Brother, now I need you to sand all the chairs and apply the same varnish so they match the color of the table." Marius: "I'm not your brother"
Good for you-I used to do the same thing on a volunteer basis for a local charity (since folded) and feel inclined to do some more of that-it's great experience if nothing else and quite often I'd get some paid work out of it which all helps!
I have restored about 60 of antique expandable tables during 20 years of my career and my solution was to cut the leaves under the same angle that the sliders are. I also made a video about the process: ua-cam.com/video/p8Y9cyovFEc/v-deo.html
I did a very similar project in our first home, except kept the round ends. :-) My wife insisted I add that the tabletop we had was particle board, and that I made the cut in the kitchen. You can imagine how much saw dust ended up all over everything.
Ahh the "benefits" of a small home. We have to do the same thing with our chairs to save room in our apartment. It's a pain in the ass to have such a large table, so I totally get why they wanted it smaller. It looks great in their home!
Happy new year with health and happiness ! I'm a woodworker for 6 years now (not a youtuber yet) and the thing which i learnt in the last two years was that sanding is very nice and effective when you plane. Now i literally sand by hand so the film protective coats will stick. Use planes and trust me you'll love it. I learnt from Rob Cosman and Paul Sellers but of course you can learn from anybody who knows. And don't forget the Stanley no 80 and the fact that you can make some of your planes. Have a good work! Greetings from Romania !
Could've made a template of the existing rounded end and incorporated that on the new size, for added nostalgia.. Next Project: over exaggerated workbench from 12/12 beams!!
This is how I got into working with wood in the first place-repairing badly-made or damaged furniture for friends-I just found that I could do a good job and leave a fine finish so I have persisted and I love it more and more. I now have 21 Planes, 19 chisels, and 6 hammers-I like working with my hands and although I do have Electric routers, a circular saw,, a jigsaw and planer etc, I very rarely use any of them.
Nice job, well done! It reignited my urge to build a table myself. We need a new dining table in the living room. It should accommodate up to 8 people. I looked online through some shops, but these are all wrong. I hate it, when you hit your knee at the table legs. All tables work in their small configuration. But extended, you will have a table leg between you legs. Given the price of those tables it is well in reach to build one myself.
A lovely remodel. But seeing you belt sanding for that long without a respirator made me cringe. The dust collection is likely not good enough for the very fine dust!
I heard that using vinegar on glued joints makes the joint come loose over a 12~24 hours period. I never tried it so can’t comment on its effectiveness.
Good to see you back Marius the table looks good enough to eat off, and I believe oder glaube das du bist halb Britisch, natürlich aus Nord England as i don’t know any Germans with your trocken Humor Stay safe cheers David
What type of Bosch saw are you cutting with? It doesn't look like a track-saw, but it's riding on a track-saw track? What is the model number for the saw and the track you are using?
I think one of the big problems was/is, that the wooden connections are all on end grain 🤔 the dowels are the only parts where the glue can properly hold the pieces together...that wasn‘t a good joint from the beginning on. Hope it will hold a little better this time 👍🏼
Can I suggest you spend the 30 euros to buy the clamps Bosch make for their guide rail, so you can put BOTH hands on your circular saw. You're clever enough to make/convert some cheaper. That would make a good video too.
I am dissapointed, I would have expected that you align the wood grain of the cover plugs to the rest off the wood. 😏. Nice project, you probably doubled the value of the table with all the labour you put in. It was worth it and you sister must be eternaly gratefull. Was ist das Englische Wort für Ausziehtisch? Stiptease table.
Cool project. I liked your fixes. I kept thinking the pantorouter could have saved you a bit of issues, I'm surprised you didn't use it here. It'll flatten your joint surfaced and make you a floating tenon, centering is usually a peice of cake. I bought the pantorouter before a bandsaw or a drill press so I usual think how could I use it before I think of other tools. Happy New Year!
always a pleasure seeing a new video of yours you should get yourself the personal fume hood that Alec Steele uses I think he sell it on his website now
A youtube woodworker way over engineering a mass production table. If they did all the things to make it bombproof at the start it wouldn't be financially possible to make a profit...
Happy New Year everybody!!!
Danke dir Marius, schönes Video, habe gut gelacht, vor allem mitm Kater macht das hier doch viel Freude! Danke für deine Arbeit
Happy dowel year... ;)
Same to you Marius! Thanks for another brilliant video!
Dowely New Year to you too 😁
Happy New Year Marius
The "metal dowel with a thread through it" is called a barrel nut. Always enjoy your videos. Just wish you put them out more often.
Sister: "Brother, now I need you to sand all the chairs and apply the same varnish so they match the color of the table."
Marius: "I'm not your brother"
Marius: "Look Sister, this is sandpaper - let me show you its features."
Oh, wrong channel.
Honestly, that "dowel" counter is disturbing
Like, it was fine, but the sound was pretty harsh.
ehhhhhh.... please don't do the dowel counter again. or at least not with the noise every time lol
This.
"my sister wont care" gold
"Shop towels"
You mean old clothing. Same as everywhere.
same thing

Thanks for sharing your work. Your video's contain humor and problem solving techniques that I enjoy.
Be sure to send this video to your sister. It is certainly worth a weekly home cooked meal for the rest of 2021.
Only if he does the sending in slow-mo to make it very clear what was the hard work here :D

As a person who finds old tables and repairs them for charity it was interesting to see how you do it. Thanks for the video!
Good for you-I used to do the same thing on a volunteer basis for a local charity (since folded) and feel inclined to do some more of that-it's great experience if nothing else and quite often I'd get some paid work out of it which all helps!
Didn't think I missed the humor so much, until you made this post! Wonderful! great video.👍👍
10:37 lol!!! That was a good one. We could have guessed from the “clear instructions”.
Incredible how much the color of the wood was changed during the years! From almost white it became dark yellow... some cases even brown.
Happy New Year! "My Sister won't care!!" should be on a t shirt or something 😂🤣😂🤣👍

The counter was so annoying
Marius doesn't love his sister that much. He just loves woodworking so much he cannot help himself. ; )
02:38 LMFAO I laughed hysterically 10/10 would watch again 😂😂😂😂😂
I was waiting for, "We're going to need a bigger dowel."
Absolutely lost it at 06:11
Great job, thanks for the great motivational videos, I decided to make content on woodworking and I did it thanks to you!
Love the dowel and alignment counters but next time be gone with the ding lol
Endlich wieder ein neues Video von dir. 😁👍
Frohes neues.
I laught so hard at your "aaand we don't want that"! Cheers from France :)
The counter is funny but please remove the sound of it. It’s not pleasant especially with headphones on :)
I've paused 3 minutes into this video to say I've missed your hilarious comedic input on your videos and this is a great return! Keep it up!
I did a very similar project in our first home, except kept the round ends. :-)
My wife insisted I add that the tabletop we had was particle board, and that I made the cut in the kitchen. You can imagine how much saw dust ended up all over everything.
The counter was annoying
Yep
Enjoyed the video though dowel counter was annoying 🙂
Teutonic best mode at 2:41. nice. also laughed aloud at the counters. well done!
Servus Marius.
2:42 *lol*
"We love to entertain you"
Please, no more counters.
I want a counter counter.
🥳🎉Bonne et heureuse année🎉🥳
🎉🥳Happy new year 🥳🎉
👍👍👍
4:58 what my wife says, when I have a new repair-job
Ha I enjoyed your humor! Also, great job fixing it and refinishing it. Much better!
And a happy new year to you man, here’s to the best year yet!!
Marius, I hope you and your family have a great year in 2021. Thank you for taking us along with you last year. It was fun!
Nice job. Good to see the old table reconditioned, "making new memories." And Happy New Year to you and yours, Marius.
Thomas Johnson would be proud of your tape labels
Ahh the "benefits" of a small home. We have to do the same thing with our chairs to save room in our apartment. It's a pain in the ass to have such a large table, so I totally get why they wanted it smaller. It looks great in their home!
I am not sure whether this should be a new video or a drinking game ^^. Anyway, I would like to wish you a blessed year 2021.
New new year Marius! *the dowel counter's chime is kinda annoying...
lol - just refurbished a simmilar "Buchenholz" Table my wife brought back this week :-) Lots of sanding and oiling
The table in our dining area just realized it looks a lot like your sisters‘ refinished one. It‘s shaking with fear already.
Ordentlich Gummipunkte gescored bei Schwesterlein! ;) Frohes neues Jahr!
When you say “three dowels” ...
.. the dowel counter should add 3 but you added only 1.
COUNT EVERY 🗳 DOWEL.

2.45 piece of cake !
Mmm ! are cake made with concrete in germany ?
Lol !
Could've made a template of the existing rounded end and incorporated that on the new size, for added nostalgia..

The thumbnail makes it look like you've grown a tail! 😱
Nicely Done My Friend! Best Wishes to You and Your Family for a Happy NewYear!
I'm always happy to see one of your videos. Also, it is awesome that it looks like you have a tail in the thumbnail for this video.
Happy 2021, Marius! Piece of cake!
Nice job, well done! It reignited my urge to build a table myself.

I wonder if your sister still has that wooden chair for the kid. Mine’s lasted over 7 years before son finally outgrew it. Truly lasting piece
Cmon Marius that was to easy try harder... Me like dowels but me loves Biscuits. TFS, G :) Oh Happy New One :)
Love your tail in the opening thumbnail. Very devilish, just right for Halloween.
UA-cam somehow discontinued my subscription to your channel... wtf!
The fight with the dowels was hilarious. Great video Marius
Can you do a follow up on your table saw video? What do you like and dislike, benefits versus a traditional saw, etc. Thanks so much.
Frohes Neues Marius,

Danke! Mal sehen ob er 20 Jahre schafft, er muss zwei Kinder aushalten ;)
A lovely remodel. But seeing you belt sanding for that long without a respirator made me cringe. The dust collection is likely not good enough for the very fine dust!
Two years in and nobody made a comment about Marius pixeling the face of the Doll?
Marius go the sarcastic way for 2021🤣. As always, fantastic video😉
I heard that using vinegar on glued joints makes the joint come loose over a 12~24 hours period.
I never tried it so can’t comment on its effectiveness.
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Love watching you work, kid! Table turned out terrific. You are one great brother!!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Yelling 5/7
Sarcasm 11/10
Hilarious as always, and still interesting at the same time
Everyone is making workshop camera stands recently. I would like to see your take on this.
Really? Take another look at your thumbnail and then change it because it looks like that guy has a tail.
Those trigger clamps that can also spread apart would of worked well with disassembly.
I've tried, but they didn't fit in between the parts
As the old saying goes, you can't make silk from a sow's ear. I am sure your sister is more than happy.
Are you okay ? Been a long time since post a video.
Just thought that I'd stop by and wish you a happy "Name" day.. ;-)
I don't even do any woodworking but I really enjoy your videos! Keep it up
That dowel counter sound was annoying but otherwise nice video.
Good to see you back Marius the table looks good enough to eat off, and I believe oder glaube das du bist halb Britisch, natürlich aus Nord England as i don’t know any Germans with your trocken Humor Stay safe cheers David
Happy New Year marius🍾🍾🍾🍾🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Time to build yourself a good work bench
Moin Marius,
I just assumed the chairs against the wall were for spineless guests.
What type of Bosch saw are you cutting with? It doesn't look like a track-saw, but it's riding on a track-saw track? What is the model number for the saw and the track you are using?
It's the GKS 18V-57 G. it's a battery circular saw that can be used with their tracks
No Mattias Wandel jump?

I already have such clamps and hate them. The grip from the rubber is good enough for me in most cases
Glad to have you back. You've been missed. Was that a new toy you had for Christmas ..? as in, a ' hand plane ' ..? lol
I am dissapointed, I would have expected that you align the wood grain of the cover plugs to the rest off the wood. 😏.

7:42 - The best work shops I've worked in had the sanding station set up for 'over-the-shoulder' dust extraction.
It's just so much easier :-)
This is perhaps the funniest video you've made to date, and that's saying something. Great editing and excellent deployment of sarcasm!
