I live near Chicago and the alleged attack happened during the polar vortex,it was -22 degrees out,which is what made me doubt him from the start.
And his Subway sandwich survived. The video of him entering his apt. shows him carrying the Subway order after the alleged attack. Also, the area in which the attack is alleged to have occurred is not a high-crime area.
The responding police didn't buy his act either. Apparently he's not the actor he thought he was. Playing a gay black man was hardly a "stretch" for him.

Notice who got him out of the pinch the first time. Since their aspirations have been stopped for the moment, maybe he will face the real consequences, but while I can't really assume it fully, the "justus" system does seem to play out too often in these senarios.
A lot of people, including myself, thought his story was suspect from the beginning. Going out at 2.a.m. in Chicago in the winter for a Subway sandwich??? He also claimed his "attackers" called him racial AND homophobic slurs, which was totally unbelievable to me. How many racist, homophobic people would watch a show that revolves around Black people and has a lot of homosexuality advertised in the commercials? How would they even be able to recognize him at all? (I'm Black and I personally never had a desire to watch the show, although I know plenty of women who do). The fact that he took such a serious matter, made a mockery out of it and trivialized it to try to get attention and/or publicity for himself is sickening to me. The fact that he refuses to accept responsibility for his actions even when he initially basically got off the hook for it, is even worse. It's like the prosecutor was behaving as one of his flying monkeys. People like him will never voluntarily take responsibility for their toxic behavior unless they are forced to. I hope he's held accountable this time and learns his lesson. Thanks again for your objective coverage, Doc!

Fact is, research found this man had worked as a DJ in the same establishment Stormy Daniels.
Daniels was a stripper.
Packages delivered around the country, all perfectly timed to arrive at multiple locations simultaneously.
You could see a commercial, and recognize him from the show. An interview, and still recognize him from the show. That is not what made me suspicious. What made me suspicious is that he is supposed to be a celebrity, but claimed that he was out without security around 2 in the morning, and got attacked in a vicious manner. That is why I was suspicious when I first heard the story. I tried to give him the benefit of doubt. But then the truth was revealed.
His actions did more harm to race relations in the USA than anything BLM has said or done.
It was as if he said to himself, "I have this elaborate scheme all planned out, and I'm going to carry it out TONIGHT, no matter WHAT the temperature outside is." The lack of patience (why didn't he wait until spring and stage the "attack" in some other city?) I think was either subconscious shame about what he was doing (like, "let's get this over with as quickly as possible") or it was part of his NPD.
It is my belief that if this goes to trial, Jussie Smollette may be found guilty, and he may be held accountable financially, but he will NEVER admit to any wrong doing, and he will NEVER apologize.
No subway sandwiches were harmed in the production of this video nor during Jussie's staged assault.

From what I’ve seen, grandiose narcissists are always trying to appear to be benevolent, ethical people because they know society values those characteristics in people. They want to be praised and admired for being this image when the reality is they’re the polar opposite.
When you watch the interview Jussie Smollett had with Robin Roberts, Smollett becomes hostile with Roberts when she questioned the far fetched parts of his story. He then became increasingly insistent, as liars often do, escalating the tone of the interview as a method of intimidation so she wouldn’t continue with this line of questioning. His narcissism became more and more apparent as the interview went on.

Even if some element of indifference or even racism is involved it becomes blown out of proportion and becomes a "criminal act" instead of the mere detestable rudeness that it may have actually been. I may be speaking out of turn but a recent news article drew my attention. Apparently a racist and irate customer at an Olive Garden restaurant did not want to be served by blacks and even had the audacity to say the waitress should be a stripper instead of working in a family oriented business. There were supposed witnesses and a member of management was fired. There was however no identity of the customer. There was no cell phone audio or video. Just two unsubstantiated claims about an unidentified customer. And with no purported evidence a manager was fired. The story may be true but as it stands it sounds like more angry racism. And yes I've only read a handful of articles on the same story which only bear the same substance. It just struck a bell.
Great video. I would add that his behaviour was dangerous because it risks stirring up racial and other tensions in an already polarised political environment.
Exactly though not the best analogy but if someone yells out Fire 🔥 in crowded movie theatre when there is no fire and someone in the rush for exits gets hurt or trampled then the person that sent thsr false emergency scenario into play could be held accountable. HE claimed that he was specifically targeted.

Great analysis of a very sad situation. He is obviously an example of someone who lives in an alternate reality he has created for himself. I find your reference to narcissistic behaviors and lack of empathy as being very reasonable descriptors of him. I dont blame the police for looking at some form of justice since he shows no remorse or accountability. We are wrong to assume fame and wealth are indicative of good mental health.

I understand that if you have been a victim or narcissistic abuse it can be hard to be objective, as a victim of narcissistic abuse myself I have been the same, but also as someone with many narcissistic traits due to my abuse, it can be a little frustrating to see comments like this. Many of us are not evil, we compartmentalise emotions to protect ourselves. I didn't understand or appreciate that I was hurting people with my actions until I was forced to face this.

Lol, I never believed him. I live near Madison, WI. We had that same polar vortex. There was no way in anyone's right mind to go out at 2am in the morning just for a sandwich. Once he began to lie, he had to stick with his story. Once he made that deal with the prosecutors, it was sealed. It was amazing how many people were so badly affected by this case. Now it will be interesting to see what comes out in court with these new charges.

I was pretty pissed when they dropped the case. I didn't know that more charges brought so thanks much for that Dr. Grande. I love that you brought up the "It's Not Murder" defense also. Bernie Madoff didn't murder anyone but we all agree he hurt innocent people through his actions, just like Smollett. He's an adult and needs to face the consequences.

My trauma from my fertility treatment has nothing to do with you or your opinions of me. If you discredit my morals and my trauma again, you will be hearing from my lawyers for liable.
Just because I have concerns for a child, I didn’t know about that obviously my Irish family or the medical professionals decided it would be too traumatic for me to deal with being raped and have a mixed race child, it has really nothing to do with you. Maybe they thought stealing all the kids without my permission would save me from trauma.
Maybe they learned from the Keeler case where a Sierra Leone snake fell into Keelers lap and caused so much stress and anxiety and major trauma treatment and medication necessary from dealing with keeping her child.
The sad thing is, it has caused more trauma by not telling me, trauma for all my kids having to deal with the situation of being told and international hatred towards me and the whole of my family.
All the kids families are blaming each other and it is just one big mess to deal with!
And I am left with personal loss of my kids and grieving for my kids living a life without me. I have had to deal with medication for the trauma which has terrible side effects and doctors malpractice claim for a hip replacement and surgery due to their judgements of the situation. It’s been a horrific experience.
Luckily I have come to terms and acceptance with the situation, forgiveness and just learning to live with the loss and are finding ways to carry on with my life in a normal way having international media and public judgements of the situation.
Let this be a learning experience and case study for the medical professionals, if it happens again to some poor unsuspecting woman dealing with men that use sexsomnia to impregnate women when they are already pregnant from fertility treatment.

A key thing I think we need to be aware of, is society in general seems to be incentivizing this kind of behaviour with attention and notoriety. As well as people's own confirmation bias causing them to leap the either side of the opinion fence without dispassionately looking at the evidence. I really hope true justice is served in this case, whichever way that goes . Everyone is keen to talk about 'social justice', but actual justice is the fundamental fabric of a civilised society.

I remember this incident. It was an extremely cold day, too cold to go for a stroll for a sandwich, unless you're a polar bear. Furthermore this happened in Streeterville. While Chicago has some "MAGA's" they aren't usually in Streeterville and if they were they are not likely to take a stroll in record setting cold, in the middle of the night. Unless, of course, they were also polar bears. Not sure how many Polar Bears are MAGA's, probably very few and probably much fewer still taking residence in a neighborhood where a 1 bedroom condo can set you back 7 figures.

Dr., thank you for your honest analysis of this story. The night in question, it was -30 degrees Farenheit. No one walks outside at 2 a.m. in that miserable weather. Also, Chicago is not MAGA country. Chicago is unwaveringly liberal, so he's way off there. So many of these kinds of false accusations of Trump supporters have happened during and in the aftermath of Obama's presidency. And Kim Fox was undoubtedly pro-Smullett in dismissing the case. I'm happy to see him being prosecuted for this. Not only did he waste Chicago police resources, he took away protections for real Chicago victims.

True. I'm not a fan of Trump, but I've been in Chicago, and it's not "MAGA country". Also I can't envision anyone wearing MAGA caps on top of ski masks unless they were at a Trump rally or something. But most of all, the bleach would've frozen into ice crystals before it could be "poured" on him and soak into his clothing.

"Double Jeopardy" would only apply if he was tried and convicted or tried and not convicted: it appears he may have made a deal with the original prosecutor to "make amends," then he would not do so. ALSO, when you used the word "innocent" I flinched a bit each time--- the phrase is "found not guilty," and not "found innocent."

Writing this 10 minutes after he was convicted. They said he showed no emotion when the verdict was read and, based off his other body language during the process of his insanely obvious lies being uncovered, I began wondering, 'is he a narcissist or a psychopath...or both?'. Then I remembered my good 'friend' Dr. Grande who popped up in my search....what I would adore is to see a small follow up, if you think it is interesting as well, Doc, based off his behavior during his trial (coming to and from, and also in court) BUT also, I'd love to see what your opinion is of his family. This situation is interesting to me - both narcissist celebrities performing outside of court (Depp/Heard) and also the family/support systems....thank you, as always, for your expert thoughts. It seems like he wanted to become a “hero”, especially in his claim that he “punched his ass back” (as he said in an interview). I think he’s a narcissist and wanted to gain more fame. It actually caused the opposite reaction and destroyed his acting career.
My first thought was, " In for a penny, in for a pound." That is, Smollett is in this too deeply to admit he staged the whole affair. But after viewing this excellent dissection of the event, I now agree that Smollett has deluded himself. He has blinded himself with his narcissism, sense of self entitlement, and greed.
Many of us will never have the gifts he was given, and has senselessly squandered, especially the good will of those who gave him the benefit of the doubt.

Toward the end of your analysis, you stated that the prosecutor was trying to make light of the whole situation and that is egregious.
#1. The prosecutor is not supposed to defend the alleged perpetrator of the crime.
#2. Jesse made a mockery of the people who have suffered or died as a result of a hate crime.
#3. He should pay for taking tax payers money and wasting the time of police officers and anyone else who assisted the police.

I agree. Meghan Markle uses the race card, as Smollet did, so that if anyone questions anything about her (and there are quite a few questions) then they are just labelled racist.

21 months ahead of the jury verdict, and this analysis looks pretty darned good.
As a lawyer, though, I'd add that a prosecutor's job is not just to "go after defendants hard," but to represent the public. And "the public" includes wrongly-accused defendants. So a prosecutor should go hard against those who pose a real danger to the public. If they are too lenient, the public is in danger. But if they persist in going after innocent people, they are tyrannical. So they need to make good judgment calls: "Yes, this person appears to be guilty and appears to be a true danger to society. But I have real doubts about the guilt of this other person." There is no shame in failing to prosecute the second person. So while other types of lawyers need to go hard against their opponents, a prosecutor's job is more subtle and complex.

When I first heard this story I thought he was lying. But then I didn't want to believe that he would lie about that. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt. The truth came out eventually. His story just didn't make any sense.
I didn't believe it to begin with it either, my dear. I also tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it was very brief, and then every came out.
It makes a lot of sense from a white perspective, having seen how racist and vindictive some blacks can be (his intended audience), and how narcissistic some people can be generally.
Instead of Hollywood fame, I had a friend who had a few years of good luck with gold jewelry. He had been making the same jewelry in silver prior to switching to gold. His income shot up by 10 times switching to gold. The problem was he believe "it was he who increased the value". His narcissist ego went to such a weird place I couldn't stand to be around him. One of his big achievements, "I shook hands with Tony Robbins and talked to him." He failed to mention that he paid an extra $200.00 for Tony's breakfast that encluded a special 5-minute talk with Tony. Then, gold prices rose and his jewelry market declined, which I had told him would happen if he didn't make certain changes. He refused to let go of his narcissist sickness. He's now broke. I've known this guy since grade school. He's not the same guy and I totally avoid him today.

Yes hunny I didn’t believe him at all. I’m from TN and we see outright violent hate crimes rarely. We see mostly harassment and altercations . And we all know it when we see it, ya know? I knew from his injuries it wasn’t hate related. I just felt bad because he hurt the community. Then had the NERVE to sue Chicago!

Funny you mention bedtime stories. I find myself listening to Dr Grande’s video at bedtime. I’ve heard them many times now but it’s sweet to go to sleep listening to a trusted calm voice speaking rationally about situations and people. This was interesting and well thought out take on this incident . Little of what has went on in this case makes sense . Videos of Smollet and family striding into the police station - I think - with this air of righteous indignance is somewhat comical . There's almost a smell of desperation for attention there . It brings to mind some of the behaviour I've seen from my Histrionic cousin but the narcissistic connection seems very valid .

I think it's the Hollywood environment she's in. She's probably brainwashed by being around all that nonsense on a regular basis. Also, becoming a successful celebrity at such a young age, and having people fall at your feet probably went to her head, contributing to a massive sense of entitlement.

His career is over. Fox renewed his contract but with no guarantee for episode appearances. Essentially, the studio left themselves the option of bringing the character back at some point but with no guarantee. That is a way of firing him without having to say "you are fired." He's done. Time for a new career.
