Hi Nick, thanks for another great video. I only use Apple CarPlay very rarely. There are two reasons for this: 1 I find the cable routing from the plug in the center console to the iPhone holder unattractive. 2 The full width of the MBUX screen is not used. Nice weekend! ☀️😃

For future videos, I would love a video on the Head-up Display in the new E-Class and S-Class. The S-Class has a lot that can be projected onto it, so I would love to know what all that is. I may have missed some when playing around with it. And it has Augmented Reality. Another thing I would like is, hopefully when these are legal in the United Kingdom, you could do a video/s on the Digital Light and Level Three Autonomy on board the new S-Class, EQS, and more Mercedes-Benz cars coming up. My 2017 e class cabriolet premium plus has full screen integration (the big screen on the left, not sure of the size, think it’s 10 inches). Apple car play uses all the 10 inches and looks like it’s made for it (i.e. screen isn’t stretched or anything) . Great videos and tutorials.
Hey sadman007, yes that’s right. The previous multimedia system called COMAND was able to do this before because there was only one screen size available. In the newer cars, depending on the specification, there are screen sizes fluctuating from 7” to 10.25” so this is why Apple CarPlay is only available at 7”. Sadly it seems Apple CarPlay only allows one screen size/format per multimedia system.

Excellent video! Have had my wife’s MBUX equipped GLB for almost 2yrs and hadn’t tried CarPlay yet. Feel like a bit of an idiot for that looking at this. Will have to give it a go!
Bought a brand new 35k E class with widescreen from a Mercedes Benz dealership which 'apparently' had Carplay. Tried everything but nothing worked so went back to the dealership who said it wasn't installed and there was nothing they could do about it. 4 years later and struggling with navigation software that was a year out of date when we bought the car, I looked at options to get carplay installed on my car. Ended up paying £120 for a remote install which took 45 minutes with all cables sent to me in the post. Now works like a dream - can't believe MB doesn't do this on cars which clearly can be easily software upgraded!
Oh how interesting, a remote install? I’ve heard that if a car doesn’t have CarPlay, that’s it. (That excludes Mercedes models with MBUX, as that can installed afterward through the Mercedes me store as a remote upgrade)
You can retrofit Apple CarPlay to any car like this: ua-cam.com/video/RTAbKVLlszk/v-deo.htmlsi=KbIQSP1hkBUPFDwv I researched and found what I thought was the best way without interfering with the car’s electrical system. There are others who modify their multimedia system but I personally wouldn’t touch that just in case.
Hey Ammar, I wish it was full screen too! I’m led to believe that when a manufacturer is designing a screen with Apple CarPlay they have to choose one aspect ratio for the whole system. As MBUX is available in two separate screen sizes, 7 inch size is the one that they’ve had to go with to maintain compatibility for the 10.25” screen too. I’m sure it’ll probably be something like that behind the scenes! If I ever get the chance to ask someone who’s the right person, I will! 🤓

It depends on the spec of the car, if it’s a standard car then no sadly not. Most of the time you’ll find Smartphone Integration on Executive or Premium Packages which also add an extra USB port for plugging it in. Just depends on the model etc
@@npoleary if i remember correctly older benz had full screen carplay on the same exact screen size so it can be done this was before the new mbux so when they updated it mustve changed it sadly
Hey skooly, the previous system was called Audio 20 & COMAND which only had the one screen size. MBUX is available in 7 inches and 10.25 inches on the new ones which is why you get a cropped experience if you have the larger screen.

Picking up 2019 C300 this week for my wife, so much good information on your channel makes it so much easier. We have Apple Music and youtube music so wanted to find out the best way to setup the car, i like Mercedes look but wife likes ease of use, so i will setup her radio favourites and advise her to use the satnav in car to get the wider view the car gives. Will get her to use her cars Bluetooth for music but her choice i guess, if i show her applecar play i think she will just say leave that lol When i get my GLC at least I’ll know how it all works, as much as i love my X3 these 2019’s have swayed me over, loving the cars.
One thing left me thinking though: If you replace the MBUX nav with your phone navigator, won't that disable the ability to plan your route to a charger / preheat the battery?
Yeah absolutely, however Apple Maps and Google Maps are working on adding their own version too Good thinking ahead though! Pros and cons to all of the mapping solutions out there

I reaallyy wanted MBUX to support widescreen CarPlay by 2022 but we're still waiting for it :( my MBUX map isn't the best with directions, and its quite slow and laggy on my new A-Class, I'd much rather use Apple Maps, but not in that tiny screen aspect ratio 😂

@@npoleary Oh that makes more sense now! I do find it odd how CarPlay doesn't natively support scaling for the display its on, although iOS doesn't either and its the same thing... I know in iOS 16 CarPlay will support variable resolutions like Windows etc so it will scale to fit whatever screen it is on.

I’m not sure what you mean by D8K? Haven’t heard of anything like that before but the displays sizes are 10.25” for both instrument cluster and multimedia system. It’s the largest it can go, it’s not cropped. The possibly may have been 11” or 12” sometime ago from memory but 10.25” on both screens is standard.

Hey spooks ah you watched it too! Awesome! 🤓 I wish! However there are two MBUX generations, NTG 6 & NTG 7. NTG 6 has a cropped display because it was originally designed for two screen sizes 7” and 10.25”. So this will always be cropped as far as I’ve seen. NTG 7 though is only available in one display size so utilises the full screen. Volvo I believe are the only car manufacturer that offer WWDC’s and Apple’s Instrument Cluster with Apple CarPlay too which I’d love to see! I hope other manufacturers can do it too, huge Apple fan here! 😛

Great videos. I use carplay with usbc cable in my A200d 22 plate, but cannot get carplay to connect wirelessly. On the carplay screen on my phone it says to press the voice assist button, I have tried this a lot of times and Siri just says something went wrong. I have the most up to date IOS software and struggling to find out what is going wrong. Any ideas?

I have a 2022 CLA with Carplay. Carplay is so ugly compared to the MB navigation, which uses the full screen, but it is terrible compared to Google Maps. And the non-wireless aspect is also very weird. My Golf didn't had this problem. Also, if you have an old iPhone USB to USB-c cable with an USB adapter, it will not work. You must use the USB-C port.
@npoleary, hello again mate. Do you know what’s changed on CarPlay on Mbux now ? Because my CarPlay now doesn’t give me option of having navigation ( Waze ) and Spotify on the same screen layout ? I remember that if I pressed the layout button on CarPlay I could had them both on the screen. Now I don’t seem to find that … do you know why ?
Have you tried turning the phone off and back on? CarPlay just runs off your phone so I doubt it would be the car? I’d also check things like apps up to date, latest iOS too!
Sadly I only started covering Mercedes on my channel in 2020 so not too clued up on models prior to that. However you can check if the car has Apple CarPlay by pressing Tel, then press Tel again. Spin the wheel round to check. If it’s not listed, then that car sadly wouldn’t have it.
That sounds like it wasn’t selected at factory. Handily though on that multimedia system you can upgrade it remotely using Mercedes me. Just head to the Mercedes me store and buy it from there 🤓
My 2023 c-class is constantly losing connection with wireless Apple car play or frequently not connecting. What could be causing this and what can I do about it?
Oh strange, have you spoken to Mercedes about it? Things you could try with troubleshooting would be checking you’re on the latest iOS (released recently) iOS 17.4. Unpair and re-pair backup to the car, resting the multimedia system, possibly reset network settings on your phone. If you have access to another car (not always possible) try wireless in that one to see if it’s the phone.

Insert the LVDS cable of the Android module into the LVDS connector of the CD drive that we just disconnected. Just acquired a late 2020 B Class Sport Executive, and extremely disappointed to find it doesn’t have Apple Car Play, which my humble 2017 Ford Kuga did! My google searches indicated that the Executive upgrade did include Car Play, but it seems not. Is there any way I can fix this without spending a small fortune?
Sadly it depends on when the car was built and specification available at the time. If you chat to Mercedes they’ll be able to offer tailored advice on your own car and its spec 👍🏼 However if it doesn’t have it, the good thing is that it can be added. Years ago I remember when Apple CarPlay started to come out, if a car didn’t have it, that was it, it never would have that capability. At least now these days if a car doesn’t have it, something can be done about it! 👍🏼

So Mercedes (as far as I’m aware) do not retrofit anything to cars, they’re only allowed to sell cars as they’re described from new. But if you have one of the latest cars with MBUX (the touchscreen) you should be able to buy Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on the Mercedes me store. Check the price though, last time I looked it was £300 ish. When you are using Apple CarPlay, and it's up on the screen, can you still say Hey Mercedes, and have it switch to making a phone call using MBUX? Or do you have to manually switch it back to MBUX first to do that?

How can I find out if my Mercedes A class 2018 with MBUX has activated CarPlay? 🤔 I'm trying to connect the iPhone, wired and wirelessly, it shows the car in the CarPlay menu on iPhone but I don't have the icon of CarPlay on the car's screen 🤦♂️🤷♂️
You can check on the centre screen, press Home, Mercedes me and Apps / Apps and look for Smartphone Integration. If it doesn’t have it, usually you can purchase it from the Mercedes me store for cars with MBUX 🤓

Oh really? How interesting! So as I always mention spec varies massively round the world. In the UK, Mercedes have not had CD players for a number of years, so it literally doesn’t exist on MBUX multimedia systems. So really sorry I wouldn’t even know where or what it looks like. All cars in the UK have Sat Nav built in now from what it looks like when I pop into my local showroom. Live Traffic is connected to a thing called Mercedes me. Really sorry I wouldn’t know what it’s like elsewhere, you’ll have to chat to Mercedes, I’m sure they’ll be able to help though!
Hi Nick, I have managed to pair my iPhone with my new CLA 250e Shooting Brake, but my contacts won’t sync, I have tried everything but to no avail, they are there when I plug my iPhone in via Apple car play but not when not connected, any support would be great.

Hey ikura72, I have heard of them and I had actually been sent one to review from one of the companies that make them. Sadly the experience wasn’t great it was cutting out and was very laggy and as a result I sent it back and didn’t make a video on it. Others may be better but I haven’t looked any further into it for now

Yes I’ve had a couple of companies post their version out to me. However due to quality issues and something I wouldn’t personally recommend, I decided not to review them. Haven’t found one to date that works flawlessly.

I especially liked that Google Maps seemed to be a main focus of it. It’s a great mapping provider 👍🏼 Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long 🤞🏼

Hi Nick, I have a 2021 Mercedes a250e and when I connect my iPhone using a USB-C lightning cable, it connects via Bluetooth but not to Apple Car Play - so all I have is the Mercedes maps and music. Have any idea why this is happening? Thanks
So if it wasn’t included with the car then you can add it via the Mercedes me store. Just buy it on there and it’ll activate and download to the car 👍🏼

@@npolearyyea I can’t see that all. When I clicked on apps it’s just had an app to connect to the internet. There is a smartphone integration option which says it’s £269.10. Is that it? Very poor for a 2019 car not to have it. I mainly want it to locate my car.
No that sounds like it doesn’t have it if it’s available for purchase. Just check this is the right thing you’re after though… Smartphone Integration is for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is for connecting your phone so that it displays some elements on the car screen. The Mercedes me app is for locating the car and that’s called the remote package. However it’s for personal use not for tracking in the event of a theft.

Hey Ashkan, honestly having used both I personally prefer a wired connection. Wireless charging with using maps and playing music can heat the phone up quite considerably. It would be good to have the option for both though just in case a wireless experience was a preference. Fingers crossed that future models released will have it!

Not used Deezer before but looking on screenshots on Google, have a look at the bottom left when playing music on your phone. You’ve most likely turned repeat on 🤓 Just make sure you’ve selected a song and it’s playing and you’re on the now playing bit.

Hello Nick, this weekend I bought the smartphone integration via the Mercedes me app for my A250e (2years old). But I do not get it installed (I am from Belgium). MBUX always ask for connection with USB. But I am using an USB-C to lightning cable for my iphone (11). Do I need another cable? The USB-c is situated in the center console, but it has another symbol then in your video. Not a 'tablet-smartphone symbol' but a USB symbol. Is is just not possible with my car then? Hope you help me :-).

When i plug my phone in - it just charges and nothing else happens. I got a 2018 W177 A CLASS. It was Registerd in September 2018. I don't have an option to buy apple car play - does it need an MBUX update to a newer FUP version? IF yes does that cost? Thanks
No sadly you can’t get Apple Maps over on any model on the instrument cluster as Apple have only designed it for the middle screen. What you might have seen is the MBUX Navi on the instrument cluster that you can do on some models

Hi Suthen, mirrors can be programmed on memory too but steering is a manual adjustment with a lever underneath the steering wheel. Just make sure you memorise it on your profile if you have MBUX (one of the later multimedia systems)
Hey, I’ve got another CarPlay question. Whenever I get in my car and connect my IPhone via cable, it takes the MBUX system around 30 seconds to load CarPlay. Can I speed this up or is this normal? Maybe I should try to disable the Bluetooth connection?

Sort of, you kind of need to choose one ideally. They are completely separate meaning that when you’re using Apple CarPlay, MBUX is suspended in the background until you come out of it. So if you’re using MBUX, use Hey Mercedes but if you’re using Apple CarPlay then use Siri. Hope that helps!

You could but it’ll stream over Bluetooth meaning then the sound will come through but without the interface of Apple CarPlay, you won’t be able to select specific Artists & Albums etc to change the song

So I have closed them , this seems to turn the auto shut off & they don’t reopen on there own & I need to go into MBUX again & reset. Is there a easier way around this please?
There’s a little bit of a difference 🤓 I personally prefer Apple CarPlay but of course you’d be tied to one of them depending on your smartphone of choice. Both are really good, both have Google Maps capability, call functions and music. I bought a new Sprinter in 2021, came with the MBUX. The dealer stated that it had CarPlay, but it wasn’t wireless. It connected wirelessly, to his surprise, right in front of him. It has recently stopped working wirelessly. As I researched how to remedy the issue, everyone states that it isn’t wireless compatible. I believe that it wasn’t meant to be, but it was and no longer is. So I’ve concluded that all MBUX radios have the ability to be wireless, but for some odd reason, Mercedes isn’t allowing that. But, why?
Hey William, really sorry I haven’t ever sat in a Mercedes Sprinter before as they’re only sold by Mercedes Commercial. The only Mercedes that I’ve seen that have wireless capability on Apple CarPlay are the new C-Class & S-Class as they feature a brand new multimedia system completely different from the existing one.

Yes most Mercedes have wired Apple CarPlay but some newly released models have wireless capability now. It’s pretty much models with the portrait styled screen 👍🏼

anyone know if recent ios updates cause issues to apple carplay? my mom’s GLB’s was working pristine for maybe 2 months? now after resetting the phone, radio, switching out different cables, removing (and now not being able to find) the car from carplay on her phone, un-and-repairing the bluetooth for both devices, i’m stuck. connects to bluetooth fine, phone integration with cable CHARGES the phone with no prompts on screen or phone, all her settings (siri, bt connection, cable, etc.) are in order, phone and radio up to date, and no carplay. other than that bigger-than-expected issue (now having to look down at phone for navigation or other hands-free stuff) the little trucks’s been flawless. many people (honda, nissan, jeep, mercedes, others) complaining after some recent apple updates their carplay is having issues.

Hey Zoran, Apple CarPlay isn’t standard equipment in Mercedes so if it wasn’t specified to have it at factory, on some selected models you can upgrade it afterward. Just head over to the Mercedes me store where you’ll be able to purchase it and upgrade 🤓

It’s not that complicated The weird thing when I drive a left hand drive car is looking at the rear view mirror which then is to my right. Gets me every time 😅

Anyway, Mercedes cars have some features for travelers, such as you can choose the speed meter in miles or kilometres and the beam light depending of the lane. Thank you for your videos.
WHY? Why we do not have an android for the car with the price of £50,000? imaging every time you go in the car with this price you have to connect to the wire. Good, there is no CD anymore. the package is £299 which just connects the phone to the car but that does not mean that the car will get the Android system at that price. I am confused with Mercedes really!!!!!
It depends on the spec of the car, spec varies massively round the world too so depends where you live. From what I’ve seen with Mercedes is that Smartphone Integration has been an option over the years but is starting to become standard now 🤓 Some cars even allow you up upgrade it remotely which is cool!

Hey Sotiris, unless someone had put or left a 3rd party add on in there. I have seen them before and even got my hands on one. I would have even made a video on it but it wasn’t very good, it kept cutting out and the experience was very clunky.
I think this is ridiculous that you can't have a widescreen your phone is connected! I think I'll keep my 2019 e class a little longer, my friend just an A Class 2020 with prem plus spec and has this 'half screen' disaster for apple carplay! I think Merc r keeping it this way to promote the MBUX system and that's ridiculous!

My 2020 GLE mbux is so terrible. Mercedes me voice assistant is practically useless… cropped carplay, no wireless CarPlay and super slow wireless charging pad. I have to have a wired connection for a CarPlay, but the cable location won’t allow me to play my phone on a phone tray… “the best or nothing” looks like whol lot of mediocre. GLE also rides like a jeep. Can’t wait to get rid of this car and get an X5 or x7! Never again!

Hey Stuart, if it’s not been specc’d at factory then yes there would be a charge to have it installed. If yours has MBUX then it can be purchased from the Mercedes me store. Hopefully they’ll sort out the other bit!

Hi Nick, thanks for another great video. I only use Apple CarPlay very rarely. There are two reasons for this: 1 I find the cable routing from the plug in the center console to the iPhone holder unattractive. 2 The full width of the MBUX screen is not used. Nice weekend! ☀️😃

For future videos, I would love a video on the Head-up Display in the new E-Class and S-Class. The S-Class has a lot that can be projected onto it, so I would love to know what all that is. I may have missed some when playing around with it. And it has Augmented Reality.
Another thing I would like is, hopefully when these are legal in the United Kingdom, you could do a video/s on the Digital Light and Level Three Autonomy on board the new S-Class, EQS, and more Mercedes-Benz cars coming up. These are very clever. 🙂

My 2017 e class cabriolet premium plus has full screen integration (the big screen on the left, not sure of the size, think it’s 10 inches). Apple car play uses all the 10 inches and looks like it’s made for it (i.e. screen isn’t stretched or anything) . Great videos and tutorials.
Hey sadman007, yes that’s right. The previous multimedia system called COMAND was able to do this before because there was only one screen size available.
In the newer cars, depending on the specification, there are screen sizes fluctuating from 7” to 10.25” so this is why Apple CarPlay is only available at 7”. Sadly it seems Apple CarPlay only allows one screen size/format per multimedia system.
Had my 1st Merc since Jan 2023 and this month (Jan 2024) traded for another. I am and have now been a subscriber for a year and dive into your channel fairly regularly ~ do thank you VERY much for this visual hand book ….

Bought a brand new 35k E class with widescreen from a Mercedes Benz dealership which 'apparently' had Carplay. Tried everything but nothing worked so went back to the dealership who said it wasn't installed and there was nothing they could do about it. 4 years later and struggling with navigation software that was a year out of date when we bought the car, I looked at options to get carplay installed on my car. Ended up paying £120 for a remote install which took 45 minutes with all cables sent to me in the post. Now works like a dream - can't believe MB doesn't do this on cars which clearly can be easily software upgraded!
Oh how interesting, a remote install? I’ve heard that if a car doesn’t have CarPlay, that’s it. (That excludes Mercedes models with MBUX, as that can installed afterward through the Mercedes me store as a remote upgrade)

I researched and found what I thought was the best way without interfering with the car’s electrical system. There are others who modify their multimedia system but I personally wouldn’t touch that just in case.

I’m led to believe that when a manufacturer is designing a screen with Apple CarPlay they have to choose one aspect ratio for the whole system. As MBUX is available in two separate screen sizes, 7 inch size is the one that they’ve had to go with to maintain compatibility for the 10.25” screen too. I’m sure it’ll probably be something like that behind the scenes!

Reason i come to this vid, we first need to purchase the apple carplay software for €379 to even make use of it. I thought would be plug&play. Bit of a pity of mercedes.
It depends on the spec of the car, if it’s a standard car then no sadly not. Most of the time you’ll find Smartphone Integration on Executive or Premium Packages which also add an extra USB port for plugging it in.
Just depends on the model etc
@@npoleary if i remember correctly older benz had full screen carplay on the same exact screen size so it can be done this was before the new mbux so when they updated it mustve changed it sadly
Hey skooly, the previous system was called Audio 20 & COMAND which only had the one screen size. MBUX is available in 7 inches and 10.25 inches on the new ones which is why you get a cropped experience if you have the larger screen.

Picking up 2019 C300 this week for my wife, so much good information on your channel makes it so much easier. We have Apple Music and youtube music so wanted to find out the best way to setup the car, i like Mercedes look but wife likes ease of use, so i will setup her radio favourites and advise her to use the satnav in car to get the wider view the car gives. Will get her to use her cars Bluetooth for music but her choice i guess, if i show her applecar play i think she will just say leave that lol When i get my GLC at least I’ll know how it all works, as much as i love my X3 these 2019’s have swayed me over, loving the cars.

It’s useful to know it only connects to MBUX when connected in the most forward connector in the centre console.
That's why mine wan't working!
I reaallyy wanted MBUX to support widescreen CarPlay by 2022 but we're still waiting for it :( my MBUX map isn't the best with directions, and its quite slow and laggy on my new A-Class, I'd much rather use Apple Maps, but not in that tiny screen aspect ratio 😂

@@npoleary Oh that makes more sense now! I do find it odd how CarPlay doesn't natively support scaling for the display its on, although iOS doesn't either and its the same thing... I know in iOS 16 CarPlay will support variable resolutions like Windows etc so it will scale to fit whatever screen it is on.

I’m not sure what you mean by D8K? Haven’t heard of anything like that before but the displays sizes are 10.25” for both instrument cluster and multimedia system. It’s the largest it can go, it’s not cropped.
The possibly may have been 11” or 12” sometime ago from memory but 10.25” on both screens is standard.

I wish! However there are two MBUX generations, NTG 6 & NTG 7.
NTG 6 has a cropped display because it was originally designed for two screen sizes 7” and 10.25”. So this will always be cropped as far as I’ve seen.
NTG 7 though is only available in one display size so utilises the full screen.
Volvo I believe are the only car manufacturer that offer WWDC’s and Apple’s Instrument Cluster with Apple CarPlay too which I’d love to see!
I hope other manufacturers can do it too, huge Apple fan here! 😛

Great videos. I use carplay with usbc cable in my A200d 22 plate, but cannot get carplay to connect wirelessly. On the carplay screen on my phone it says to press the voice assist button, I have tried this a lot of times and Siri just says something went wrong. I have the most up to date IOS software and struggling to find out what is going wrong. Any ideas?
Hey Anthony, it’s a wired connection only.
Wireless was introduced in 2023 models as they have a receiver that can do it.

I have a 2022 CLA with Carplay. Carplay is so ugly compared to the MB navigation, which uses the full screen, but it is terrible compared to Google Maps. And the non-wireless aspect is also very weird. My Golf didn't had this problem. Also, if you have an old iPhone USB to USB-c cable with an USB adapter, it will not work. You must use the USB-C port.

@npoleary, hello again mate. Do you know what’s changed on CarPlay on Mbux now ? Because my CarPlay now doesn’t give me option of having navigation ( Waze ) and Spotify on the same screen layout ? I remember that if I pressed the layout button on CarPlay I could had them both on the screen. Now I don’t seem to find that … do you know why ?
Have you tried turning the phone off and back on? CarPlay just runs off your phone so I doubt it would be the car?
I’d also check things like apps up to date, latest iOS too!

Sadly I only started covering Mercedes on my channel in 2020 so not too clued up on models prior to that. However you can check if the car has Apple CarPlay by pressing Tel, then press Tel again. Spin the wheel round to check.
If it’s not listed, then that car sadly wouldn’t have it.

That sounds like it wasn’t selected at factory. Handily though on that multimedia system you can upgrade it remotely using Mercedes me. Just head to the Mercedes me store and buy it from there 🤓

Just received my CLA250e premium AMG Line, disappointed to find CarPlay is not wireless unlike my previous 3 series
My 2023 c-class is constantly losing connection with wireless Apple car play or frequently not connecting. What could be causing this and what can I do about it?
Oh strange, have you spoken to Mercedes about it?
Things you could try with troubleshooting would be checking you’re on the latest iOS (released recently) iOS 17.4.
Unpair and re-pair backup to the car, resting the multimedia system, possibly reset network settings on your phone.
If you have access to another car (not always possible) try wireless in that one to see if it’s the phone.
I hope future updates will remove that crop factor…
And cable connection. Should be able to connect without cable like in a BMW.

Operating principle:
Connect the LVDS cable from the original car CD drive to the Android module with the LVDS adapter cable supplied in the kit. Insert the LVDS cable of the Android module into the LVDS connector of the CD drive that we just disconnected. (Android module " input" is connected to the original car CD, And Android module " output" is connected to the original car screen.)

No sadly not, it’s a completely different multimedia system. Mercedes can’t retrofit stuff to cars once they’re made
Just acquired a late 2020 B Class Sport Executive, and extremely disappointed to find it doesn’t have Apple Car Play, which my humble 2017 Ford Kuga did! My google searches indicated that the Executive upgrade did include Car Play, but it seems not. Is there any way I can fix this without spending a small fortune?
Sadly it depends on when the car was built and specification available at the time. If you chat to Mercedes they’ll be able to offer tailored advice on your own car and its spec 👍🏼
However if it doesn’t have it, the good thing is that it can be added. Years ago I remember when Apple CarPlay started to come out, if a car didn’t have it, that was it, it never would have that capability.
At least now these days if a car doesn’t have it, something can be done about it! 👍🏼

So Mercedes (as far as I’m aware) do not retrofit anything to cars, they’re only allowed to sell cars as they’re described from new.
But if you have one of the latest cars with MBUX (the touchscreen) you should be able to buy Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on the Mercedes me store. Check the price though, last time I looked it was £300 ish. Of course this is for the UK, this will and may be different elsewhere round the world.

How about wireless CarPlay ? Even a seat Leon 2020 has wireless CarPlay and Mercedes has it on the 2023 a class but not 2019 to 2022?
When you are using Apple CarPlay, and it's up on the screen, can you still say Hey Mercedes, and have it switch to making a phone call using MBUX? Or do you have to manually switch it back to MBUX first to do that?
In some cars you can but you’ll find the functions will be limited in some way (depends on the multimedia system)
Best to choose one or the other for the ultimate experience 🤓

How can I find out if my Mercedes A class 2018 with MBUX has activated CarPlay? 🤔 I'm trying to connect the iPhone, wired and wirelessly, it shows the car in the CarPlay menu on iPhone but I don't have the icon of CarPlay on the car's screen 🤦♂️🤷♂️
You can check on the centre screen, press Home, Mercedes me and Apps / Apps and look for Smartphone Integration.
If it doesn’t have it, usually you can purchase it from the Mercedes me store for cars with MBUX 🤓

Oh really? How interesting! So as I always mention spec varies massively round the world. In the UK, Mercedes have not had CD players for a number of years, so it literally doesn’t exist on MBUX multimedia systems. So really sorry I wouldn’t even know where or what it looks like. All cars in the UK have Sat Nav built in now from what it looks like when I pop into my local showroom.
Live Traffic is connected to a thing called Mercedes me. Really sorry I wouldn’t know what it’s like elsewhere, you’ll have to chat to Mercedes, I’m sure they’ll be able to help though!

Hey ikura72, I have heard of them and I had actually been sent one to review from one of the companies that make them.
Sadly the experience wasn’t great it was cutting out and was very laggy and as a result I sent it back and didn’t make a video on it.
Others may be better but I haven’t looked any further into it for now

However due to quality issues and something I wouldn’t personally recommend, I decided not to review them.
Haven’t found one to date that works flawlessly.

My knowledge on them is limited but I did find Android Auto very similar to Apple CarPlay. I especially liked that Google Maps seemed to be a main focus of it. It’s a great mapping provider 👍🏼

Just want to add that you don’t really need 2 cables. I have usb-c to lightening cable and that’s the only one I use in my Mercedes with MBUX.

So if it wasn’t included with the car then you can add it via the Mercedes me store.

@@npolearyyea I can’t see that all. When I clicked on apps it’s just had an app to connect to the internet. There is a smartphone integration option which says it’s £269.10. Is that it? Very poor for a 2019 car not to have it. I mainly want it to locate my car.

Smartphone Integration is for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is for connecting your phone so that it displays some elements on the car screen.
The Mercedes me app is for locating the car and that’s called the remote package. However it’s for personal use not for tracking in the event of a theft.
My GLC says carplay deactivated after update do I need to then pay for it to get it back?
I’d suggest chatting with Mercedes on that one, sadly I wouldn’t know what update you’ve done or what updates there are for GLC’s.

Nothing is better then wireless and it should be standard on Mercedes really. Disappointing that it has on only selected high end models.
Hey Ashkan, honestly having used both I personally prefer a wired connection. Wireless charging with using maps and playing music can heat the phone up quite considerably.
It would be good to have the option for both though just in case a wireless experience was a preference. Fingers crossed that future models released will have it!

Not used Deezer before but looking on screenshots on Google, have a look at the bottom left when playing music on your phone. You’ve most likely turned repeat on 🤓
Just make sure you’ve selected a song and it’s playing and you’re on the now playing bit.

You can play Spotify over Bluetooth but it’ll just be limited to next track / previous track functionality

Hello Nick, this weekend I bought the smartphone integration via the Mercedes me app for my A250e (2years old). But I do not get it installed (I am from Belgium). MBUX always ask for connection with USB. But I am using an USB-C to lightning cable for my iphone (11). Do I need another cable? The USB-c is situated in the center console, but it has another symbol then in your video. Not a 'tablet-smartphone symbol' but a USB symbol. Is is just not possible with my car then? Hope you help me :-).

When i plug my phone in - it just charges and nothing else happens. I got a 2018 W177 A CLASS. It was Registerd in September 2018.

No sadly you can’t get Apple Maps over on any model on the instrument cluster as Apple have only designed it for the middle screen.
What you might have seen is the MBUX Navi on the instrument cluster that you can do on some models

Hi Suthen, mirrors can be programmed on memory too but steering is a manual adjustment with a lever underneath the steering wheel.
Just make sure you memorise it on your profile if you have MBUX (one of the later multimedia systems)

Hey, I’ve got another CarPlay question. Whenever I get in my car and connect my IPhone via cable, it takes the MBUX system around 30 seconds to load CarPlay. Can I speed this up or is this normal? Maybe I should try to disable the Bluetooth connection?

Sort of, you kind of need to choose one ideally. They are completely separate meaning that when you’re using Apple CarPlay, MBUX is suspended in the background until you come out of it. So if you’re using MBUX, use Hey Mercedes but if you’re using Apple CarPlay then use Siri.

You could but it’ll stream over Bluetooth meaning then the sound will come through but without the interface of Apple CarPlay, you won’t be able to select specific Artists & Albums etc to change the song

It stays with the car so the next owner would make use of it when it’s sold on so factor that in before you buy 🤓

I personally prefer Apple CarPlay but of course you’d be tied to one of them depending on your smartphone of choice.
Both are really good, both have Google Maps capability, call functions and music.

I bought a new Sprinter in 2021, came with the MBUX. The dealer stated that it had CarPlay, but it wasn’t wireless. It connected wirelessly, to his surprise, right in front of him.
It has recently stopped working wirelessly. As I researched how to remedy the issue, everyone states that it isn’t wireless compatible. I believe that it wasn’t meant to be, but it was and no longer is.
So I’ve concluded that all MBUX radios have the ability to be wireless, but for some odd reason, Mercedes isn’t allowing that. But, why?
Hey William, really sorry I haven’t ever sat in a Mercedes Sprinter before as they’re only sold by Mercedes Commercial.
The only Mercedes that I’ve seen that have wireless capability on Apple CarPlay are the new C-Class & S-Class as they feature a brand new multimedia system completely different from the existing one.

Yes most Mercedes have wired Apple CarPlay but some newly released models have wireless capability now.

Ah it’ll be wired, only models with a portrait styled screen have wireless in Mercedes. Those models actually have a wireless receiver 👍🏼
anyone know if recent ios updates cause issues to apple carplay? my mom’s GLB’s was working pristine for maybe 2 months? now after resetting the phone, radio, switching out different cables, removing (and now not being able to find) the car from carplay on her phone, un-and-repairing the bluetooth for both devices, i’m stuck. connects to bluetooth fine, phone integration with cable CHARGES the phone with no prompts on screen or phone, all her settings (siri, bt connection, cable, etc.) are in order, phone and radio up to date, and no carplay. other than that bigger-than-expected issue (now having to look down at phone for navigation or other hands-free stuff) the little trucks’s been flawless. many people (honda, nissan, jeep, mercedes, others) complaining after some recent apple updates their carplay is having issues.
No sorry I haven’t heard of any issues with Apple CarPlay, I use it every time i get in my car.

Why won’t it use the full screen on the premium models
Sadly not all cars can do full screen CarPlay. There are other manufacturers who have come across the same before.

Basically it’s because MBUX (also known as NTG 6) on Mercedes is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing & coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything.
So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen.
NTG 7 found in some new cars have higher faster processors and have one screen size leading to a full screen experience on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!

@dv8961 sadly it’s not an update it’s basically the different multimedia systems. The newer ones in short have full screen capabilities from what I’ve seen
As a programmer, i can tell you this is so easily to code to make it full screen. I think they did it on purpose to uplift the facelift a class

Most do, it just depends on the equipment selected

Hey Pankaj, you can on Mercedes-Benz latest multimedia system but it’s only present on a couple of models.
There are wireless dongles that you can buy which I hope to cover soon!

No sadly not it’s not a software update, cars that use a wired connection do not have a wireless receiver

Hey Zoran, Apple CarPlay isn’t standard equipment in Mercedes so if it wasn’t specified to have it at factory, on some selected models you can upgrade it afterward.
Just head over to the Mercedes me store where you’ll be able to purchase it and upgrade 🤓

I can’t imagine how complicated must be for people who write with is right hand, to handle a British car. 🙂↔️ with a left hand.
It’s not that complicated
The weird thing when I drive a left hand drive car is looking at the rear view mirror which then is to my right. Gets me every time 😅
@@npoleary yeah! You’re right. I meant when you have to touch the central screen, or using the gearbox in a manual car.
Anyway, Mercedes cars have some features for travelers, such as you can choose the speed meter in miles or kilometres and the beam light depending of the lane. Thank you for your videos.

WHY? Why we do not have an android for the car with the price of £50,000? imaging every time you go in the car with this price you have to connect to the wire. Good, there is no CD anymore. the package is £299 which just connects the phone to the car but that does not mean that the car will get the Android system at that price. I am confused with Mercedes really!!!!!
It depends on the spec of the car, spec varies massively round the world too so depends where you live.
From what I’ve seen with Mercedes is that Smartphone Integration has been an option over the years but is starting to become standard now 🤓
Some cars even allow you up upgrade it remotely which is cool!

sorry, i deleted the previous comment by mistake. thank you for the reply though ! however, I was provided with an A class as a courtesy car and the carplay was wireless - this was in mid-2020. not sure what's going on :)
Hey Sotiris, unless someone had put or left a 3rd party add on in there. I have seen them before and even got my hands on one. I would have even made a video on it but it wasn’t very good, it kept cutting out and the experience was very clunky.

I think I'll keep my 2019 e class a little longer, my friend just an A Class 2020 with prem plus spec and has this 'half screen' disaster for apple carplay!

My 2020 GLE mbux is so terrible. Mercedes me voice assistant is practically useless… cropped carplay, no wireless CarPlay and super slow wireless charging pad. I have to have a wired connection for a CarPlay, but the cable location won’t allow me to play my phone on a phone tray… “the best or nothing” looks like whol lot of mediocre.
GLE also rides like a jeep. Can’t wait to get rid of this car and get an X5 or x7! Never again!

My A200 AMG-Line 2018 hasn’t got it and they want £267 to install it. PS my climate control has gone haywire luckily still under warranty
Hey Stuart, if it’s not been specc’d at factory then yes there would be a charge to have it installed. If yours has MBUX then it can be purchased from the Mercedes me store.
Hopefully they’ll sort out the other bit!
