Thank you Nick. This is the third video I’ve watched on the subject and you nailed it. Going on a long road trip this week so thank you for helping me connect CarPlay again.
If it’s a software/firmware update you require and not hardware you can do it yourself mate. Don’t need to pay these crooks. Just check some Mercedes forums. Although I wouldn’t hold ur breath too much my 23plate only works about 30% of the time and that’s with apple car play factory fitted. Merc is a joke nowadays. Also my alarm goes off 24/7. Better off with a Skoda lol
Omg I’ve had my car 2 years and CarPlay only worked on the beginning I’ve now realised I was using the wrong USB port this whole time!!! To be fair to me the guy at Mercedes told me to use the one in the centre console not the one in the media centre. Thanks so much!!
Hi Nick. I thought this might be a good thing to share. If you experience a very slow response from the touch pad or controls on the steering wheel within Apple CarPlay, please check these settings on your iPhone: Under Settings - Accessibility - Assistive Touch If you have enabled things like the double tap this will influence the response of the touch controls of your Mercedes within CarPlay. Turn it of on your iPhone and the response will be normal again.
omg thank u so much i had accidentally chose the manual option instead of automatic and couldn’t figure out how to start carplay again for ages!!! all i had to do was press tel twice and now i have my carplay back, u are a godsend!!!
Hi Nick, thanks for the video, very useful. I’ve got this issue when travelling and tried several steps before trying just to use an original cable (which I didn’t have with me at that time, just back in home). It totally worked.
Hello, I had the same issue with Apple carplay on my 2020 A250E Mbux system it just wouldn’t detect the phone. I followed every step and finally switch off and on worked. Saved me from resetting the whole mbux system. Also I use a cable purchased from Amazon. Nick Thankyou very much I have learnt a lot about my car from watching your videos.
I’ve made a few videos on that on my channel: www.youtube.com/@npoleary/search?query=wireless Basically that car only has wired but with a simple accessory you can upgrade it. All without affecting internal components.
wow perfect video! I have had 2018 luxury GLE Mercedes for 5 years and never new that the 2nd plug in hidden at the bottom of the center console was a required connection to make car play work! simple after this video. THANK YOU . this video saved me hours of hassel
Thanks so much for sharing this information. I couldn’t get my Apple Carplay to install and spent almost an hour trying to figure it out on my 2017 GLE. I thought I was going to have to make a trip to the dealership. I wouldn’t have known that all I had to do is push the telephone button twice and turn the knob. It loaded up instantly after that. Great job 👏
Thanks for your video Nick, it was a big help! Just got my new glc and it started having carplay connection problems a few days after I picked it up from the dealership. Your video helped me fix the problems, thank you!
@@npoleary I have no idea what caused my problem still, but after 3 years of owning the car Apple CarPlay "disappeared". I could not find it anywhere on my screens and I watched countless videos, read the manuals, and troubleshot it myself. Your suggestion of hitting TEL twice and turning the knob put me on the right track to getting it back. Thanks again!
Ah awesome Here’s another tip, you can put it back the way it used to be 🤓 Without anything plugged in, press TEL then press TEL again, find CarPlay and when you’re on the screen that says it’s not connected, nudge the wheel down and select the bottom left option. Here you can enable the auto start again. The reason why this will toggle off is if you plug in a different phone or a new phone, it can only auto start with one phone at a time. 🙏🤓
Great video. When you show the 3 ways to get into CarPlay I was paying attention and saw my dad's version is option 2, but then later you said "These ways shown are also how to start manually" that was the kicker. My phone connected to his car on my first try. But his phone didnt. But starting it manually opened up the area where we could tell it to start automatically for his phone like it did when I first plugged mine in. Maybe he clicked the wrong option way back. But this video did the trick. So I dropped a like.
Hi Nick, I LOVE all your videos, so helpful. I am still having issues connecting to apple carplay. Every time I start my car and plug in with correct cable, port etc… my 2021 GLE 450 prompts with First time set up allow..” It doesn’t recognize my phone. So to start CarPlay I must be stopped, cannot connect if driving. My phone connects in my other vehicle and rental cars without a problem and my Husbands and daughters connect to my Mercedes’ without issues?? No one at the dealerships have been able to help. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated TIA
Hey Sandy, Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying the videos! I’ll keep them coming! And I have a special one going up tomorrow (4pm UK time) 👀 That does sound strange, have you tried unpairing your car from the Apple CarPlay menu on iOS? It’s Settings, General, CarPlay and then delete any in there that say “MBUX”. Failing that, I’d try a Reset of the car’s multimedia system, however this will lose data, things like Sat Nav destinations, profiles, settings etc so just be sure you’ve got things saved if you do. Another thing you could try along with the phone is Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPhone, then Reset and then finally Reset Network settings. This will reset Wi-Fi networks back to default but I’m led to believe it’ll reset CarPlay pairings too. After that I’d try a full reset of the phone but I’d only do this last as this will require a lot of setting up again (unless you’ve got it backed up with iCloud) Lots of things there but if you’ve done everything in the video for troubleshooting, not sure if there’s anything else other than the car going into a workshop and having the software updated etc
@@npoleary OMG thank you so much!! That worked!! I’ve been on the phone with Mercedes for hours, Apple for hours multiple times, Verizon multiple times and 2 different dealerships in my area….NO ONE could fix this!! One response from you and Voilà! You are truly amazing! I was ready to get rid of my car, you do Mercedes Benz a great service!! Cheers!!
@@npoleary The fix was resetting network settings on my phone. I also reset the car back to factory settings and started over. Thanks so much, I’m happy with my Mercedes’ again🥰
Nick have you ever heard of anyone having issues with their MBUX system making a weird vibrating noise? I’m not sure if something in the dash is loose.. I have googled it but nothing ever comes up haha. Thanks
Hey Liam, no I haven’t ever heard this before. MBUX runs on a hard drive and as it is a computer, does have a fan so if the car is really hot inside, you might hear it. If you don’t think think something’s right though, if you get in touch with your local dealership, I’m sure they’ll be able to help you out!
It can take up to 24 hours to appear (that’s what happened when I bought something before) but chat with Mercedes if you get stuck. They’ll be able to help you out! 🤓
OMG!!! Nick you are a god sent from above; you just saved me so much stress and time. I couldn’t get the Apple map to display while using Apple CarPlay. I watched this video and followed the instructions step by step and it was amazing. Thanks a million!!! Much appreciation. 🤙🏼
Hey thank you! New C-Class does have wireless CarPlay (this is for the UK and the one with the vertical screen). But it may vary elsewhere so check with Mercedes to be 100% sure 🤓
Hi Nick, very informative video, thanks. For my Mercedes GLB, apple CarPlay keeps crashing and restarts. I always keep my iPhone and Mercedes software updated Any suggestions for what might be going wrong?
Thank you! When you say crashing, does it just go back to the Mercedes menu, and are using a cable? (not a wireless adapter). Another thing to check is the cable itself, is it an official cable, is it a USB-C to USB A dongle rated for Apple CarPlay. Also double check the phone case (if you’re using one) it might be preventing a secure connection.
Hi Nick great videos for apple car play. I have just bought the attocost u2 device for my GLA 200. Should I see ALL that is on my iphone like numbers etc. Thanks Nick
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them! All of your contacts will be the exact same if they’re on your phone. It’ll be no different compared to if you plug it in via the wire.
Great info, thank you. It has just saved me £75 for a replacement iPhone socket! For some reason the 'system' had switched off CarPlay. Whent to Connect and re-enabled my phone. all now ok. Thanks again.
Hi Ian. Having the same issues with mine. It’s charging but won’t connect to CarPlay. It’s a 2019 C200. What did you mean by the system switched off CarPlay maybe it may help me solve mine.
@@moboluwadurooshodi6083 I guess it was a bit ambiguous. The car play only stopped 'seeing' my phone, like you it was charging but not connection to CarPlay. All I did was go into the menu, remove the phone from the list and then set it as a new phone. Hope this helps as I don't have the Merc anymore to check further . :-{
Hey guys, basically Apple CarPlay can automatically launch to one phone. If the phone has had a major update or another CarPlay device has been connected then it’ll lose the auto launch feature. You can always manually launch but if you remove the pairing and reconnect it back up, that’ll usually restore it 🤓
Hey Roberto, sadly Apple CarPlay won’t show this on many makes and models as it’s only for the centre screen. I’m sure it’ll change for future though! 🤓
Hi Nick, great video as always. I have a glc220d 2020 model with mbux system. My problem is that whenever i connect my phone to use apple carplay the system eventually starts it but it doesn’t appear instantly on the multimedia system’s screen, only a little button which says apple carplay on the top left corner of the screen and i have to press around 20 times this little button to pop up the carplay screen. This is really annoying and takes a lot a time. Is it possible to set the system to start it automatically so whenever i plug my phone in carplay menu shows up instantly. I tried everything on my phone to solve this issue but nothing has worked.I really appreciate your answer in advance. Kind regards Mark
Sadly the actual multimedia system has to start first and then CarPlay will follow. My car does the same thing, but as it is a computer it’s needs to load all of the functions first and various systems etc. Once it’s loaded then it can load up CarPlay with the button on the top. Usually if you plug it a bit later it should launch straight away.
@@npoleary Thank you for your reply. My problem is that the system starts apple carplay with some time but it doesn’t pop up automatically to the multimedias screen, even if i drive it for hours the mbucx system runs with apple carplay in the background, and probably there is some kind of bug in the system because it doesn’t respond to pressing that little apple carplay icon, i have to press it a loads of times to respond. Or is it normal and the system is that slow?:(
Can you give me some possible troubleshooting steps to solve this somehow because it is quite annoying. I remember when i first used carplay it worked just fine and then for a longer period about a year i didnt have to use it but now due to work i have to navigate a lot in other cities and google maps is the best for that job. And each time i connect my phone i have to press that button for ages to somehow start the system. I really thank you for your patience because i dont wanna go to the merc service just for this
Thank you Nick. Just a quick question, on the Music app can you either fast forward/skip to the next track using any of the controls on the steering wheel or is it just a case of using the controls on your phone (iPhone 11). The reason is that my Ford did have this capability....Thanks and keep the videos coming very useful...
Ah perfect, so if you press the Home button on your steering wheel (closest to the driver’s door) then swipe across to Media. Then from here you can swipe up/down and go through the next or previous tracks. Hope that helps!
If a car doesn’t have it then sadly that’s usually it. Unless it has a modification done of which sadly most dealerships won’t do. They’re usually only allowed to sell cars as they’re described on their original spec sheet. However I did make a video sometime ago on how anyone van add Apple CarPlay to their car: ua-cam.com/video/RTAbKVLlszk/v-deo.htmlsi=2BlInOxB0D57ZYDb
Hi Nick, thank you for your vids very helpful for me. I just bought an used c200 2019 and i can pair my iphone. i can call someone and can play music as well but apple carplay not appear. that means i cant use navigation and other apps too. i only reach play music and call someone. NOTE: I dont have any SD card. so why i can not use carplay? its all about sd card? your help will be greatful thanks.
Hey thank you! Sadly not all cars have Apple CarPlay it depends on what was chosen. Press Hone and go to Connect (I think it was that, it’s been a while since I’ve seen that system). Look for “Apple CarPlay” If it only says “Browser” then sadly that car won’t have it. Rather than have to change the car for it though, I did make a video about how you can add Apple CarPlay to any car. ua-cam.com/video/RTAbKVLlszk/v-deo.htmlsi=cN_H4HyLnymqxOci It does involve an extra screen but if someone really wants CarPlay, it’s the most cost effective and least obtrusive way of doing it.
What about wireless Apple CarPlay connection issues. I have ongoing problems with it cutting out after being connected and/or not connecting at all at times in my 2023 C300.
Hey Tom, what do you mean wireless connection issues? There can be a delay before it connects when you leave your house in the morning as it may still be connected to Wi-Fi (depends how good your Wi-Fi coverage is)
Hi Nick, thanks for this video. I just purchased a 2019 A180 with MBUX, and purchased the car startup and android auto as added extras. It has been over a week and the startup apps are still saying "activation in progress" despite getting the activation email from Mercedes me stating that they'd be working in five hours. Smartphone connectivity says "activated" on mercedes me, but the car still says that android auto is deactivated. I have contacted my dealer, and Mercedes me customer service who can't seem to pinpoint the issue. Have you ever experienced this in the past? Is there anything that can be done? Thank you in advance. 😊
@npoleary Unfortunately yes. Never got a reply from the service team on the app. I'll keep trying with my dealer! They said they may need to take the car in. Thanks for your help.
Same has happened to me on my 2019 A35, my car is currently at the Mercedes Workshop, however Mercedes technical support are still trying solve the issue as both Mercedes me support and the workshop can't find the issue
Hey Nick, need a quick tip: everytyme I start the car and connect my iPhone, mbux says “starting CarPlay”, activates de upper left CarPlay short cut, but if I press there nothing happens, I have to swipe to apps, phone, CarPlay. After that everything works (if I disconnect and reconnect the cable it works, and the shortcut works) but it’s boring to repeat this process everytime I start the car and connect the phone to the car. Any trick to solve it? Thanks!!!
Hey Joao, hmmm that does sound strange…I haven’t heard if that happening before… It might be worth asking your local dealership if they can take a look, a technician might be able to fix it
Hi Nick, my carplay worked first few weeks of owning my eqc 400, but 3rd week in all the usn ports don’t work, don’t even charge or bring up carplay… tried 3 cables and they all work in the house and in other cars
Oh no if they don’t charge then that would mean there’s no power going to them. I would defo suggest contacting your local Mercedes and they should be able to help. They have technicians who’ll be able to test it and find out what’s going on.
Thank you, Nick. 💖 Extremely helpful. I have not had any issues myself, but it is nice to have this video available as reassurance if an issue does unfortunately arise down the road. 🙂
I have 71 plate a class a180 sport. I see apps and smartphone but it’s saying no device connected even with lead in and plugged in usb socket under slide drawer.Im using official Apple cable with my iPhone 12.
Hey TEAM IOP, this sounds like you might not have it on your Mercedes. When you plug it in, it would normally appear straight away. In the UK smartphone integration is usually found on the Executive Package or higher (the ones with the folding mirrors and parking sensors) If you don’t have it, it can be purchased from the Mercedes me store and added
@@npoleary thank you. It now works! Weirdly I went back in the car couple hours later and hey presto! Thanks for your reply. Now onto the other vids on this subject!
1 question does the previous owner need to be removed from the system in order for it to work? I definitely have a MBUX Aclass but it does not pop up or appear as an option under apps
Is this for CarPlay or Mercedes me? For Mercedes me you should always have it linked to your account so if it’s not just get in contact with your local Mercedes and they’ll give you a hand 🤓
No for Apple CarPlay you can connect loads of phones (not at the same time) it’s just kind of works on the fly. If you’re done with one phone, just plug another in and you’ll be good to go as long as the car has Apple CarPlay 🤓
Hi Nick! Would you be able to help me please? I successfully connected my iPhone 14 Pro Max to my A180 wireless. It works like a treat. Unfortunately, the answer and hold buttons won't work. In my previous car, if I click on the answer button, the recent call list appears and I can choose the person I'd like to call. Is this normal or there was something that I didn't set up properly? Thank you in advance.
Hi Nick, someone may have already mentioned this but if so just ignore me, but I had issues yesterday with car play and tried all your steps, I got to the try someone else phone and it worked so it wasn't the car. After careful thought, I remembered I activated my iPhone VPN and after disabling the VPN the car play worked again. anyway just something to help.
Thanks for the info, I tried the tips and I keep getting “the connected device is not supported” I’ve been driving this Mercedes and had my iPhone connected all this time. I went out of town so I wasn’t driving for a week and now it stops connecting. Any tips?
Hey Val, other than those in the video sadly no. Apple CarPlay is Plug & Play in most scenarios as long as you have it on your car. Just make sure you’re using the correct cable and it’s not being obstructed by a case on the phone, make sure you’re using the correct USB port in your car and although it shouldn’t make too much of a difference, just make sure that you have the latest iOS (currently iOS 15.2). If you’re still struggling, I’d get in touch with your local Mercedes and hopefully they’ll get your sorted 🤓
Do you need the cable for the Apple Carplay to show on the car display? I have the cable and with that it works fine but shouldn’t it work without the cable as well? Remotely? I even paid for smartphones integration package which says it will transfer my personal smartphone screen to the media display in my car, but it still doesn’t work. Any advice please?
It depends on the car, some models have wireless some are wired. If you’ve connected via Bluetooth and it hasn’t connected to CarPlay automatically then it’s most likely a wired Apple CarPlay (again as long as it has it) What model and year do you have?
If you’ve connected via Bluetooth if a car is compatible with wireless it’ll ask if you want wireless CarPlay straight away. I’m pretty sure that wireless was introduced to E-Class in 2024 though on their latest one.
Nick - you just saved me a lot more time and stress trying to get this to work. I knew your videos would help me. I bought new cables Ive sat in the car messing with settings Messed with phone settings... Turns out i was plugging it into the wrong spot 😅🤦🏾♀️ Keep up the content please. I learn so much.
Hello Nick 😉 What dongle do you recomend for wireless apple carplay for MBUX system? Its a little bit annoying have to put the cable on the iphone everytime I get in the car. Thank you 👏🏼
Hi Nick, I have MBUX in my B180 sport. But Apple car play does not work. I am told I need to purchase smartphone integration package. It costs a massive GBP 300. Does Mercedes not give Apple CarPlay as standard on MBUX ?
It depends on the specification 🤓 If it has COMAND then yes, if not then no If you’re not sure get in contact with your local Mercedes and they’ll be able to let you know 🤓
Hi my EQA 250+ I've had for about month and my iPhone 15 was set up at the dealers. The toggle between AC and MBUX worked well wirelessly but recently I sometimes get this message "Apple CarPlay cannot be started. Your device is connected by bluetooth" When I get that message I can't get out of it. It doesn't happen all the time. Is the only solution to use a wire??
I’ve had this a couple of times and I believe the reason (I think) is to do with WiFi at home. It seems to only happen if my phone wants to remain connected to a WiFi network (like at home). I’ve never had it happen while I’ve been away from home before but normally only when it is near a known WiFi spot. Doesn’t always happen but has a happened a few times from car to car.
I recently bought a used 2021 C63S and cannot complete the intial CarPlay setup because the "Accept & Start" button on the Apple CarPlay data screen cannot be selected after I scroll down. Not sure what I'm missing here....
Hey jtodsen001, Try nudging the wheel down 🤓 If I recall when you spin the wheel, it doesn’t go to Decline / Accept, you have to nudge the wheel to move the cursor across. Hope that helps! 👍🏼
Recently bought a 2017 Mercedes A180 and supposed to be Apple CarPlay as standard, however when I plug in my Iphone, the CarPlay does not start. I tried to locate it manually in the menu (Tel/Tel) but does not have it either - BUT - when I go in my Iphone in CarPlay settings I see the car listed in there (MB...) same as in the video you have the Vauxhall.... So I am confused now what to do. Any thoughts?
I’d always check on the car as even today Apple CarPlay isn’t standard on all specs round the world. I’ve heard that from UA-cam comments etc So going into settings and then CarPlay on your phone will show you what cars you’ve paired to in the past. So it must have been another car. On the car press TEL and press TEL again, if CarPlay is listed there then you’ll have it, if not then sadly won’t be on that model.
@@npoleary thanks Nick! Can you refer me to a video that’ll help me connect my vehicle to the Mercedes Me App please? The code does not appear on my digi dash ☺️ I select “request new code” on the app several times but nothing happens!
No worries! Most of the time you’ll need it verified by Mercedes-Benz so if you get in contact with them, they’ll be able to assist 🤓😇 Usually you’ll just need proof of ID and a V5 document (vehicle ownership document)
Hey Diek, no sadly it doesn’t :( It is a wired Apple CarPlay only in the majority of Mercedes models. Mercedes have started to work wireless for the next generation stuff though so we might see it in future models in the coming years! 🤞🏼
Hello, Nick! Thank you for another great video. Just wondering if you could advise via a new video or maybe just here in comments what is the most accurate way to determine the fuel/electric power consuption (both average and from reset/start/) on Mercedes hibryd models ( E300e in my particular case). I find it quiet confusing if you just looking at the dashboard or cunsumtion menu at MBUX display.
It’s a tricky one to work out because it depends on the journey you do. So for example, if you drove 2 miles up the road, went into the shops then drove back and the engine didn’t switch on, you will have achieved 999+ miles per gallon, because you haven’t used any gallons of fuel, just electric. Another example, same trip but if you accelerated hard at the lights just once, then drove normally for the rest of it, then your MPG might be around 300-400 MPG because it averaged out on electric for most of it. And the final example, same trip again but this time you drove there on electric and then drove back with the engine on “Battery Level or E-SAVE depending on the car” (this mode uses the engine) then your MPG might be around the 100-200 MPG mark. Miles per gallon is very tricky to work out on hybrids because there is another source of power pushing you around which throws off stats. MPG is used to measure how much fuel we use, where as electric is measured in MPkWh (miles per kWh) This is why that figure seems high on short journeys but less on longer journeys. Of course the more you run on electric and plug it in, the better your MPG will be but with a plug-in hybrid you don’t have to to complete a journey.
Is that the model ML in Mercedes? Sadly no Apple CarPlay was announced by Apple in 2014/2015 so from then onwards that’s when manufacturers started implementing it into their next release of car. For the GLE it was roughly 2018 I think when they started to introduced it.
Help me… I have a iPhone15 pro and my software on that and the car is up-to-date, also did “forget device” to start over. My CarPlay does work but only when it’s plugged in with a cable. How can I get it to connect through the wireless charging pad?
A wireless charging pad is just for charging the phone. For wireless CarPlay it depends on the car and its multimedia system. If a car has wireless capability then it would default to it every time so if you’re using the cable then it most likely doesn’t have it. However I have produced a video on my channel where I compare adapters on how you can make it wireless: ua-cam.com/video/lRhL-DXVL3g/v-deo.htmlsi=TfheOpy7xFckdORf
Hi Nick, I am having a bit of confusion as to whether my c200 2018 (68) sports saloon with 5.5 has android auto/carplay or not? Getting mixed opinions from sources and even the manual which says it has. But couldn't locate this by any means. Connecting the phone through the usb (tablet logo) doesn't seem to start that up. Can you confirm?
Hey sayantan, in most cases it’s automatic when you plug it in but it depends on specification as it is not standard equipment in the UK. Sadly the manuals are printed generically and don’t mean it’s actually on a specific car. Back then if I remember, it was found on an option called COMAND
Hey Nick, when I plug in my phone to the second USB port used for Apple car play/android auto, it doesn’t even recognize a device, I had the dealer put a new USB port and that did nothing, my car is a 2018 s63
I know that only one of the ports work for Smartphone Integration, is it charging in the other? If not I would definitely speak with the people who installed a new USB port again. Hopefully they can get to the bottom of it!
I was having a hard time connecting my Apple CarPlay and found that it only connects when my car is on but just the battery but disconnects when I turn my car fully on to drive. Is there a fix for this?
Hi Nick, great video some great information in there thanks, as a new GLE owner I’m confused about the suspension height what to set it at, have you covered this in any of your videos thanks. B
Hey BillM, thank you! 🙏 No I haven’t covered this actually, only because it’s such a rare option. It depends on your year of GLE, if I recall the new ones have 3 heights (available in different situations) Most of the time it’ll sit in it’s normal position, however if you select “Off-road” on DYNAMIC SELECT or actually raise it using the button, it’ll raise to give you more ground clearance when doing any off-roading. You can also lower it to make unloading / loading at the rear easier 🤓 Also if you left it in it’s highest mode, it’ll drop back down when you go above a certain speed (think it was around the 40mph mark)
@@npoleary Hi Nick thanks for your help on the suspension settings, very well explained I’ll have a play with the buttons and see how it goes cheers. B
Hey Lewis, if it’s just Apple CarPlay trying restarting your phone. Apple CarPlay runs solely off of your phone so it could be that. In this instance I would also try using another phone just for process of elimination. Then you’ll know if it’s the car or your phone then 🤓
Hi Nick, I have a 2017 GLA with Apple Carplay and recently upgraded to an iPhone 13 Pro with IOS 15. I am unable to play any music from my iPhone through Apple Carplay. The screen flashes briefly and reverts back to the Carplay screen. Any suggestions? Thank you. Really enjoy your videos!!
Hi Nick I have a new genuine Apple USB C to lightning cable (i.e. no need for a USB C adapter). I have the latest iPhone and software update. I have CarPlay activated on my EQC and am using the correct USB C port. But it looks like the cable only charges the phone, it doesn’t connect it to Apple CarPlay. My phone can only connect to the car via Bluetooth. Do you know of any compatibility issues with the new Apple USB C to lightning cables? Will I have to purchase a USB C adapter instead and use one of the older Apple USB cables?
Hey Tahir, it depends if your EQC has it, Apple CarPlay is not a standard option on Mercedes cars. Do you know what EQC you have? Is it Premium / Premium Plus? Apple CarPlay is plug and play so it would normally just pop up on the screen straight away.
Nick how do I get CarPlay maps to talk directions when I’m talking on my iPhone? If I’m on the phone by he map only beeps to tell me when to turn etc! I like it when I hear the voice tell me directions but I don’t know how to turn it on? Thanks
It’s the same button on CarPlay where you toggle the alerts on and off, there’s another option for the voice You can also do this on your phone too as Apple CarPlay is just your phone running on the car, so if you open Apple Maps, get a route going and just enable the voice from the icon (top right)
@@npoleary yes I know that but while I’m on a phone call it doesn’t talk to me the directions? It just beeps to alert to turn etc? When I’m on the map from Mercedes I can talk and listen to directions at same time? Not with CarPlay? Thanks

I have updated the firmware and swapped out cables (but using a new official Apple cable). I have gone in and deleted pairing and re-paired. Any thoughts as to why it might not recognize my phone?
Ah okay, I’m not familiar with that system but it could be that it doesn’t start automatically. Are they any settings in the car on the Pioneer to adjust to start automatically?

Any idea how I can force the MBUX to sync the activation with Mercedes Me?
Hey Mark, have you got in touch with Mercedes me support at all? They’re your best bet first! It can take up to 24 hours to transfer to the car so may not appear straight away
@@npoleary yes - it has been 72+ hours now - the Mercedes me phone line stays on hold for 20+mins and then disconnects and I’ve sent multiple online messages and heard nothing back yet :-(
Hmmm that sounds strange :/ I’ve had to call them before and got through within a couple of mins Have you tried the Mercedes me button in the car? (To clarify, not the SOS button but the Me Button) That get’s you through to them too
Oh that’s very strange I was wondering if it was a Mercedes with an SD card. Sometimes people can unintentionally pop them out. Sadly if it’s a CLA, the navigation is all built in. If you get in touch with your local Mercedes, I’m sure they’ll be able to assist! 🤓
Your car may not have it as CarPlay came out around that time You can check by pressing Tel and then pressing Tel again and if it has it you’ll see it in this menu 👍🏼
Can you help? My carplay was working fine until this week. Its connecting via bluetooth but when i plug the device in (where it would normally just pop up on the display) i get the message ‘activating device, please wait’ and it stays stuck in this. Ive gone into my iphone settings and removed the car (but now it wont show up again) Ive also reset the display on the car and tried different wires and phones, disconnected them and re-paired them but still when i connect via the wire the same message appears. Bit stuck on what it could be?
Hey Sharon, apart from everything in the video, the only thing I can suggest is to try resetting the multimedia system, and make sure to try turning the phone off and back on. Double check it’s not the car by (if you can) use another phone in your car just to as if it launches
@@npoleary Thanks. I tried resetting the multimedia, turning phone off and on and resetting the network setting and using another phone but no luck. I de-authorised the phone and deleted the bluetooth saved on my phone and then tried to re-connected it. I saw the car show up in my carplay settings on my iphone again but still no joy. I tried connecting carplay set up manually instead of automatic this time and there was some change. It still said ‘activating device please wait’ but after flashing about 3-5 mins it changed to ‘ This device cannot be activated. Please check compatibility, whether it is connected to USB port 2 and the setting on your device’. Any ideas whats happening? Im running the latest apple update, have siri active and no screen time restrictions on my phone so not sure why it wont recognise any of the iphones in the car now. It charges and bluetooth works but no carplay display when plugging in anymore
Sounds like you might need to visit your local Mercedes, that does seem odd. 9/10 you don’t need to any of the above, and then the odd time time here and then you might need to turn the phone off and back on, or check the cable etc. If you’ve tried another phone then it sounds like it could be the car or the USB port etc Hope they get it sorted!

Just picked up a 19plate a series and it don't even have it. An extra £300 just for apple car play is a joke...
I’m starting to think I’m on the same boat as u man
@@alibakr8467same here, was advertised as having car play but not working at all
Same here mate 😢
If it’s a software/firmware update you require and not hardware you can do it yourself mate. Don’t need to pay these crooks. Just check some Mercedes forums. Although I wouldn’t hold ur breath too much my 23plate only works about 30% of the time and that’s with apple car play factory fitted. Merc is a joke nowadays. Also my alarm goes off 24/7. Better off with a Skoda lol
You, my friend, are a 21st century miracle worker. That “press tel twice and spin the dial” trick worked like magic, unbelievable.
Haha awesome! Glad you got it working! 🤓
Omg I’ve had my car 2 years and CarPlay only worked on the beginning I’ve now realised I was using the wrong USB port this whole time!!! To be fair to me the guy at Mercedes told me to use the one in the centre console not the one in the media centre. Thanks so much!!
Oh awesome glad you got it going! Any questions message me back and I’ll try and help! 🤓🙏
Hi Nick. I thought this might be a good thing to share.
If you experience a very slow response from the touch pad or controls on the steering wheel within Apple CarPlay, please check these settings on your iPhone:
Under Settings - Accessibility - Assistive Touch
If you have enabled things like the double tap this will influence the response of the touch controls of your Mercedes within CarPlay. Turn it of on your iPhone and the response will be normal again.
Ah good to know! Thanks for sharing! 👍🏼🤓
omg thank u so much i had accidentally chose the manual option instead of automatic and couldn’t figure out how to start carplay again for ages!!! all i had to do was press tel twice and now i have my carplay back, u are a godsend!!!
Thank you! Glad you got it sorted! 🤓
Hi Nick, thanks for the video, very useful. I’ve got this issue when travelling and tried several steps before trying just to use an original cable (which I didn’t have with me at that time, just back in home). It totally worked.
Ah brilliant! Glad you got it going! 🤓
Thank you SO much for this! It really helped me work out why my Apple CarPlay wasn’t working - third party usb cable!
Ah brilliant! Glad you got it working! 🤓

Thank you for the heads-up with remote update for Apple carplay! That's my case, my EQC doesn't have it stock, and I'll request it.!
You solved my problem within 2 minutes when Mercedes couldn’t! Thank you!
Wooo! What was it just out of curiosity?
@npoleary what about wireless CarPlay? I have a 2022 GLC and I cannot connect wirelessly.
I’ve made a few videos on that on my channel: www.youtube.com/@npoleary/search?query=wireless
Basically that car only has wired but with a simple accessory you can upgrade it. All without affecting internal components.
Thank you , problem solved , you covered all possibilities well
Awesome! 🙌
Just out of curiosity, what was it?
wow perfect video! I have had 2018 luxury GLE Mercedes for 5 years and never new that the 2nd plug in hidden at the bottom of the center console was a required connection to make car play work! simple after this video. THANK YOU . this video saved me hours of hassel
Awesome thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
Thanks for this! I was ready to return my new cable thinking it was the problem.
Ah awesome! 🤓👍🏼
Great job 👏
Ah awesome! Thanks Richard! Glad you got it going! 🤓🙏
OMG BLESS YOUR HEART, NICK!!!!!! I was having so much trouble today and yesterday and the double touch worked immediately!!
Thanks for your video Nick, it was a big help! Just got my new glc and it started having carplay connection problems a few days after I picked it up from the dealership. Your video helped me fix the problems, thank you!

Wow thanks!!! Watched
So many videos before watching yours and your method worked instantly.
Wooo! I do actually want to make an updated version soon! But I guess you won’t need it! Haha
Glad you got it going! 🤓🙏
Won’t mind watching an updated version but these methods were great!!
The dealership updated my software in my car and my Apple CarPlay stoped working. This video helped me tremendously!
I’ll this was the only video that helped me solve my CarPlay issue! Thank you so much
Wooo! What was it just out of curiosity? 🤓 how did you get it going?
@@npoleary I have no idea what caused my problem still, but after 3 years of owning the car Apple CarPlay "disappeared". I could not find it anywhere on my screens and I watched countless videos, read the manuals, and troubleshot it myself. Your suggestion of hitting TEL twice and turning the knob put me on the right track to getting it back. Thanks again!
Ah awesome
Here’s another tip, you can put it back the way it used to be 🤓
Without anything plugged in, press TEL then press TEL again, find CarPlay and when you’re on the screen that says it’s not connected, nudge the wheel down and select the bottom left option.
Awesome thank you! Glad you got it going!
TEL x 2 trick worked for me! Thanks much!
Excellent video. My issue was the cable, so thanks
Ah amazing! Glad you managed to sort it! 🤓🙏

And I have a special one going up tomorrow (4pm UK time) 👀
That does sound strange, have you tried unpairing your car from the Apple CarPlay menu on iOS?
It’s Settings, General, CarPlay and then delete any in there that say “MBUX”.
Failing that, I’d try a Reset of the car’s multimedia system, however this will lose data, things like Sat Nav destinations, profiles, settings etc so just be sure you’ve got things saved if you do.
Another thing you could try along with the phone is Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPhone, then Reset and then finally Reset Network settings. This will reset Wi-Fi networks back to default but I’m led to believe it’ll reset CarPlay pairings too.
After that I’d try a full reset of the phone but I’d only do this last as this will require a lot of setting up again (unless you’ve got it backed up with iCloud)
Lots of things there but if you’ve done everything in the video for troubleshooting, not sure if there’s anything else other than the car going into a workshop and having the software updated etc
@@npoleary OMG thank you so much!! That worked!! I’ve been on the phone with Mercedes for hours, Apple for hours multiple times, Verizon multiple times and 2 different dealerships in my area….NO ONE could fix this!! One response from you and Voilà!
Thank house so much the reset on Mercedes worked!!!!

Hi Nick, great vid! I’ve got a-class 2019 model & I’ve just bought the smartphone integration but it’s not coming up under apps?
It can take up to 24 hours to appear (that’s what happened when I bought something before) but chat with Mercedes if you get stuck. They’ll be able to help you out! 🤓
OMG!!! Nick you are a god sent from above; you just saved me so much stress and time. I couldn’t get the Apple map to display while using Apple CarPlay. I watched this video and followed the instructions step by step and it was amazing. Thanks a million!!! Much appreciation. 🤙🏼

Morning Nick
really helpful videos, I have just received my brand new C250e does this year still not promote wireless carplay?
Hey thank you! New C-Class does have wireless CarPlay (this is for the UK and the one with the vertical screen).
But it may vary elsewhere so check with Mercedes to be 100% sure 🤓
thank you, is it best I pop to my dealer as I cannot seem to get it to connect wirelessly?@@npoleary
Hi Nick. I love your tutorials. Could you tell me how to delete pre set radio stations on a 2021 e300 coupe?
Hey Nigel, if it’s an E-Class with MBUX, just press and hold your finger on one of the presets and then you can delete it from there 🤓
excellent solved my problem which was the need to enable siri. thank you

Great info, thank you. It has just saved me £75 for a replacement iPhone socket! For some reason the 'system' had switched off CarPlay. Whent to Connect and re-enabled my phone. all now ok. Thanks again.
Ah awesome! Thank you! Glad you got it going! 🤓
Hi Ian. Having the same issues with mine. It’s charging but won’t connect to CarPlay. It’s a 2019 C200. What did you mean by the system switched off CarPlay maybe it may help me solve mine.
@@moboluwadurooshodi6083 I guess it was a bit ambiguous. The car play only stopped 'seeing' my phone, like you it was charging but not connection to CarPlay. All I did was go into the menu, remove the phone from the list and then set it as a new phone. Hope this helps as I don't have the Merc anymore to check further . :-{
Hey guys, basically Apple CarPlay can automatically launch to one phone.
If the phone has had a major update or another CarPlay device has been connected then it’ll lose the auto launch feature. You can always manually launch but if you remove the pairing and reconnect it back up, that’ll usually restore it 🤓
Hello,Nick. Would be great if you advise via a new video or just connect
Great video! Thank you so much. Do you know how to fix the directions on the hud as well? They won't show up if I use appe car play
@@npoleary
Thank you for your reply. Or is it normal and the system is that slow?:(
Have you tried un-pairing it and re-pairing back up?
@@npolearyYes i tried it from my phone settings i switched off carplay then re paired but no difference
Can you give me some possible troubleshooting steps to solve this somehow because it is quite annoying. Thank you Nick. If a car doesn’t have it then sadly that’s usually it.
Unless it has a modification done of which sadly most dealerships won’t do. They’re usually only allowed to sell cars as they’re described on their original spec sheet.

Look for “Apple CarPlay”
If it only says “Browser” then sadly that car won’t have it.
Rather than have to change the car for it though, I did make a video about how you can add Apple CarPlay to any car.
ua-cam.com/video/RTAbKVLlszk/v-deo.htmlsi=cN_H4HyLnymqxOci
It does involve an extra screen but if someone really wants CarPlay, it’s the most cost effective and least obtrusive way of doing it.
This worked for me, thanks so much for sharing!
Ah awesome! Glad you got it going!
Hey Derek, no worries! 🤓 no sadly I’ve not heard of that before
Have you contacted Mercedes me support from the app?
@npoleary Unfortunately yes. Never got a reply from the service team on the app. I'll keep trying with my dealer! They said they may need to take the car in. Thanks for your help.

For Mercedes me you should always have it linked to your account so if it’s not just get in contact with your local Mercedes and they’ll give you a hand 🤓
@@npoleary for car play please?
No for Apple CarPlay you can connect loads of phones (not at the same time) it’s just kind of works on the fly. If you’re done with one phone, just plug another in and you’ll be good to go as long as the car has Apple CarPlay 🤓
Nice one Nick😊
Hi Nick!
Would you be able to help me please? I successfully connected my iPhone 14 Pro Max to my A180 wireless. It works like a treat. Unfortunately, the answer and hold buttons won't work. Hi Nick, someone may have already mentioned this but if so just ignore me, but I had issues yesterday with car play and tried all your steps, I got to the try someone else phone and it worked so it wasn't the car.
If you’ve connected via Bluetooth and it hasn’t connected to CarPlay automatically then it’s most likely a wired Apple CarPlay (again as long as it has it)
What model and year do you have?
@@npoleary Thank you for your response. I have a 2021 E-350. Is my model wired only?
If you’ve connected via Bluetooth if a car is compatible with wireless it’ll ask if you want wireless CarPlay straight away.
I’m pretty sure that wireless was introduced to E-Class in 2024 though on their latest one.

Hi Nick, I have MBUX in my B180 sport. But Apple car play does not work. I am told I need to purchase smartphone integration package. It costs a massive GBP 300. Does Mercedes not give Apple CarPlay as standard on MBUX ?
They do on the new ones (facelift onwards)
But yes if the person who had the car new didn’t choose it then you can add it to the car.

Hey jtodsen001,
Try nudging the wheel down 🤓
If I recall when you spin the wheel, it doesn’t go to Decline / Accept, you have to nudge the wheel to move the cursor across.
Hope that helps! 👍🏼
Extremly helpful
Recently bought a 2017 Mercedes A180 and supposed to be Apple CarPlay as standard, however when I plug in my Iphone, the CarPlay does not start. I tried to locate it manually in the menu (Tel/Tel) but does not have it either - BUT - when I go in my Iphone in CarPlay settings I see the car listed in there (MB...) same as in the video you have the Vauxhall....
So I am confused now what to do. Any thoughts?
I’d always check on the car as even today Apple CarPlay isn’t standard on all specs round the world. I’ve heard that from UA-cam comments etc
So going into settings and then CarPlay on your phone will show you what cars you’ve paired to in the past. So it must have been another car.
On the car press TEL and press TEL again, if CarPlay is listed there then you’ll have it, if not then sadly won’t be on that model.
Omg Nick, you’re truly an Angel! This video was extremely helpful🙏🏽
Thank you! No problem! 🤓
Glad you found it useful!
Thank you!
This helped me setup my Apple Car Play 😊
Wooo! That’s good!
@@npoleary thanks Nick! Can you refer me to a video that’ll help me connect my vehicle to the Mercedes Me App please? The code does not appear on my digi dash ☺️ I select “request new code” on the app several times but nothing happens!
No worries! Most of the time you’ll need it verified by Mercedes-Benz so if you get in contact with them, they’ll be able to assist 🤓😇
Usually you’ll just need proof of ID and a V5 document (vehicle ownership document)
@@npoleary thanks so much 😊
Hello Nick, how do I know if my MBUX supports wireless Apple CarPlay? My model is a GLE 53 AMG (2021).
Hey Diek, no sadly it doesn’t :(
It is a wired Apple CarPlay only in the majority of Mercedes models.
MPG is used to measure how much fuel we use, where as electric is measured in MPkWh (miles per kWh)
This is why that figure seems high on short journeys but less on longer journeys. Of course the more you run on electric and plug it in, the better your MPG will be but with a plug-in hybrid you don’t have to to complete a journey.
Thank you very much!
Very detailed and professional explanation. As usually.
Dose the 208 ml support apple car play?
Is that the model ML in Mercedes? Sadly no Apple CarPlay was announced by Apple in 2014/2015 so from then onwards that’s when manufacturers started implementing it into their next release of car. For the GLE it was roughly 2018 I think when they started to introduced it.
Man! Thanks you! Worked for me 😊
Ah awesome! 🤓
Hi Nick
Why the screen is scramble when I connect my iPhone even though I try every thing
Can you help ?
Thanks
Hi Dweeb, I’ve seen this a couple of times before, if you reset the multimedia system that should sort it.
Which model & year do you have?
@@npoleary
Thank you so much
When I reset it works
I’m so appreciate your helpful informations
Pls keep post new things!
Ah amazing! Glad you got it working! 🥳
Will do!
Any suggestions you’d like to see for future videos? 🤓
Not sure I understand, the phone battery doesn’t charge when the car is on?
Hi Nick, great video some great information in there thanks, as a new GLE owner I’m confused about the suspension height what to set it at, have you covered this in any of your videos thanks. B
Hey BillM, thank you! 🙏
No I haven’t covered this actually, only because it’s such a rare option.
It depends on your year of GLE, if I recall the new ones have 3 heights (available in different situations)
Most of the time it’ll sit in it’s normal position, however if you select “Off-road” on DYNAMIC SELECT or actually raise it using the button, it’ll raise to give you more ground clearance when doing any off-roading.
You can also lower it to make unloading / loading at the rear easier 🤓
Also if you left it in it’s highest mode, it’ll drop back down when you go above a certain speed (think it was around the 40mph mark)
@@npoleary Hi Nick thanks for your help on the suspension settings, very well explained I’ll have a play with the buttons and see how it goes cheers. B
Since updating the MBUX software - my car play is going extremely slow and lagging - any tips on resolving this?
Hey Lewis, if it’s just Apple CarPlay trying restarting your phone. Apple CarPlay runs solely off of your phone so it could be that.
In this instance I would also try using another phone just for process of elimination. Then you’ll know if it’s the car or your phone then 🤓
The most helpful video. Thanks so much!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
No worries! 🤓🙏
This was a known problem by Apple on Apple CarPlay, just update to the latest iOS and it should work just fine.
Latest version is iOS 15.0.2
@@npoleary Nick, thank you. Apple CarPlay is working fine now,. I also purchased the USB-C adapter you recommended!
Thanks for this Nick. Strangely the USB C to lightning that came in the iPad box didn’t work for CarPlay but one I have purchased separately is ok
Oh that’s strange…at least it’s going now! 🤓
Nick how do I get CarPlay maps to talk directions when I’m talking on my iPhone?
If I’m on the phone by he map only beeps to tell me when to turn etc!
I like it when I hear the voice tell me directions but I don’t know how to turn it on?
Thanks
It’s the same button on CarPlay where you toggle the alerts on and off, there’s another option for the voice
You can also do this on your phone too as Apple CarPlay is just your phone running on the car, so if you open Apple Maps, get a route going and just enable the voice from the icon (top right)
@@npoleary yes I know that but while I’m on a phone call it doesn’t talk to me the directions?
It just beeps to alert to turn etc?
When I’m on the map from Mercedes I can talk and listen to directions at same time?
Not with CarPlay?
Thanks
Ah no on a phone call sadly that’s just how Apple CarPlay works. Unless Apple change it in the future with an update, that’s how it is on all phones.
@@npoleary Thanks I was going crazy trying to figure out how! Much appreciated! Happy holidays
Ah no worries!
Happy Holidays to you too! 🎄
Hi Nick - I don't have a Mercedes but I am having an issue with my Apple Car Play recognizing my iPhone 12. It has the lastest updates and it does not stay as default and I need to select it in settings every time I turn on my car. I have updated the firmware and swapped out cables (but using a new official Apple cable). I have gone in and deleted pairing and re-paired. Any thoughts as to why it might not recognize my phone?
Hey Maryann, no worries! Which car make and model do you have?
@@npoleary I have a Jeep Liberty with a pioneer AVH NEX-4200 that supports Apple Car Play
Ah okay, I’m not familiar with that system but it could be that it doesn’t start automatically. Are they any settings in the car on the Pioneer to adjust to start automatically?
Hey Nick, i have a just bought a mercedes a250. I seems it dont have apple car play and i have to buy it from mercedes me app? Is that correct or is there a way i can save £300?😅
If it doesn’t have it, you can buy it from the Mercedes me store. But I don’t know of any other way sadly, sorry!
Have a 2018 Mecedes C200 coupe Apple Carplay works, music clear as, but when viewing apps they are pixelated, tried new Apple USB cable no change any ideas?
Hey Comedy Keith, have you tried resetting the multimedia system? That may get it going when you plug it back in
Thank you so much for your videos! Really helpful and great content!
No problem! 🤓
I’ve purchased Apple CarPlay as an aftermarket/remote upgrade via Mercedes Me Connect. My Mercedes Me app shows it as purchased and active but the MBUX system in my A-class is still showing the license as “deactivated” and as a result the CarPlay and Android auto integrations are not showing under the Apps menu.
Any idea how I can force the MBUX to sync the activation with Mercedes Me?
Hey Mark, have you got in touch with Mercedes me support at all? They’re your best bet first!
It can take up to 24 hours to transfer to the car so may not appear straight away
@@npoleary yes - it has been 72+ hours now - the Mercedes me phone line stays on hold for 20+mins and then disconnects and I’ve sent multiple online messages and heard nothing back yet :-(
Hmmm that sounds strange :/
I’ve had to call them before and got through within a couple of mins
Have you tried the Mercedes me button in the car? (To clarify, not the SOS button but the Me Button)
That get’s you through to them too
Excellent video!
Thank you! 🤓🙏
Hi Nike
My navigation unavailable it’s just happened two weeks ago I don’t know what happened so can you help me out with this?
Hey Saykpru, what model of Mercedes do you have and what year? 🤓
@@npoleary cla 250 2021
Oh that’s very strange
I was wondering if it was a Mercedes with an SD card. Sometimes people can unintentionally pop them out. Sadly if it’s a CLA, the navigation is all built in.
If you get in touch with your local Mercedes, I’m sure they’ll be able to assist! 🤓
It was my car, thanks a whole lot
No worries!
How about that ....I updated MBUX software in my mercedes and then simply CarPlay is gone ...whats the solution please ?
I’d definitely chat to Mercedes and get them to take a look! I’ve not had an update for a while so not sure on that one.
Hi my benz b class 2016 carplay not in car radio. i want carplay in my radio how to solve this problem?
Your car may not have it as CarPlay came out around that time
You can check by pressing Tel and then pressing Tel again and if it has it you’ll see it in this menu 👍🏼
If you’ve tried another phone then it sounds like it could be the car or the USB port etc
Hope they get it sorted!
