  • Tent camping in Elk Island National Park outside of Edmonton during October. Cooking Hungarian goulash for dinner on the wood stove. Lots of Buffalo (Bison) here and I got some on film. Hiking and photographing some beaver dams, and other wildlife.

      My Mom who passed on Dec 10th 2020, would cook Kraft mac & cheese. When we had left overs in the olden days, I was born in 1960. She would add tomato sauce and Italian seasoning to her Goulash. It sure tasted good to me.

    HAHAHA "every video's the same, I'm just in a tent cooking food!" Now that you mention it, it's true! Guess it must be your sparkling personality! You do have a very good nature, it's fun to watch someone enjoy the great outdoors in what a lot of us consider to be crappy or dark or cold conditions. Your good humour and spirit are half the fun of your channel.

    Steve, you are a unique and amazing person, and I don't say that lightly. I discovered your channel a while back, and initially, I thought it was just some guy in a tent, but after watching more of your videos, I went back and I'm binge watching pretty much all of your videos. Your personality and resilience is just amazing; I don't know anyone (myself included) who would camp in a tent in the middle of winter for 8 weeks to go to school. Also, the fact that you love the cold and winter makes me happy because I'm like that too. I have no idea how many subscribers you had at the time of this video, but I imagine it was nowhere what you have now (not to mention being featured in the news!), and that makes me really happy. I hope your channel continues to grow quickly and reap the benefits of making all these videos for us to watch. Thank you, and I hope you're well and hunkering down.

      @@tkp2957 Yes I agree. Its kind of funny that he camped out for 8 weeks in the winter to go to school right before his channel just blew the hell up!! Now he probably doesn't even need to work he can just do UA-cam full time and maybe give us a few videos a week. But its smart to have a backup gig lined up because you never know how long UA-cam will last. A lot of those early UA-cam celebrities are starting to learn that the hard way because they were banned or their channel just completely fell off. But I don't see Steve falling off and I can't imagine a Thursday without watching Steve hunker down!!

      I don't watch much television, I prefer the originality and creativity of UA-cam, especially people like Steve. No frills, no fuss-I can't quite say 'no chills', he's had a couple stealth camps that I hoped Beautiful Wife had bail money-just in case.
      I was just thinking today-ah tomorrow's Thursday-Camping With Steve, something to look forward to.

    I love the internet. I'm in Australia, and here we get to see kangaroos, koalas, possums, flying foxes, lizards, snakes etc. And much more. But through people like you, I get to see wildlife, just doing their thing, that I otherwise never would. I love to see a bison, a bear, a beaver, a squirrel, a skunk, a racoon, or a wolf. You have beautiful animals there. Thank you.

    • @King_WhiteWolf
      @King_WhiteWolf 2 роки тому +1

      I legitimately did not know that Australia doesn't have bears, beavers, squirrels, skunks, or raccoons! It's so common to discuss the rugged down-under and the dangerous animals it harbors, but I just kind of figured that they were overshadowing the less exotic, more mundane animals. I hadn't considered that maybe it's actually that you don't have them there, so perhaps they aren't so mundane after all.
      I'm from the north-eastern United States up in Ohio, and while I've left the state a handful of times for vacations down south, I've not left the country yet. When I do though, Australia is at the top of my list for places to go first. You really do have a beautiful land to call home, plus your folks accents are music to my Americanized-English speaking ears!

    • @King_WhiteWolf
      @King_WhiteWolf Рік тому +3

      @Spots Corner There's a very good chance they will relocate on their own once there's been enough hassle around them of you trying to get them out of there. They're very smart creatures and will generally leave a place that's got too much going on.
      A quick tip: the mother will almost always come back for stray younguns, pretty much if she didn't somehow die she is absolutely coming back for them.
      So if she relocates, and it seems she may have left one or two of them, dont attempt a rescue or anything of the sort. Even if it's been a few days, the mother will come back for them, she's just waiting for the right moment. This is the number one way raccoons end up raised with humans, because somebody with good intentions thought they were saving an abandoned baby raccoon, but had they waited a day or two momma would've come back to get them back from where she left them.
      Good luck, send me a reply if you feel like, and let us know the situation.

      @bcaye Рік тому +1

      Oh, believe me, you don't want to see a bear or a wolf in the wild. We have possums, they are just rodents to us. Raccoons are pests, they get into trash or like me, come in the pet door and make messes.

    Paddling down the Fraser with some of the nicest background music. Totally enjoyed how mellow and dreamy it was and not too loud. Now I have to return to the part about your cooking so I can pick out the details of that Hungarian goulash (lost track of paying attention). It looked very good! Thank you for such excellent videos Steve!

    I am actually watching from Hungary and let me tell you, what you cooked actually is called pörkölt. It is basically the same thing but like you did, not much water and is not a soup. Goulash is a soup with meat, vegetables in it. To make what you did into an original goulash you need to fill it up with water at the end, add vegetables like sliced carrots and small potato cubes and cook it until the potato is good. If you leave it like you did, it is pörkölt.
    And i think it is better to add pork grease to the pan first, then cook the onions, then the meat, then add small water and paprika ect..
    Cheers love your vids

      100%, that's not a goulash. You definitely nailed it on that one clearly describing what one actually is. A traditional Hungarian goulash is basically a heavy beef stew for the uninitiated; sliced carrots & potato slices, paprika, mine also had like gnocci type stuff in there, not sure of the proper name. Both my mother & grandmother made it quite a lot, don't quite remember what my grandma's were like since she passed about 7 years ago. The majority of my family was born there so they know the cuisine. We even have a few Hungarian butchers we go to for kolbasz & hurka.
