“Do you think it’s wird using the same hole?” “I think I caught something, oh, it’s you” -Steve Wallis January, 2022. 🤣 One of the best videos so far, it’s amazing how relaxing it is to just watch you guys.

Some quick tips: -You each need your own hole (a decent distance apart if possible) -I prefer to just throw up the shack on top of the snow versus shoveling it down to the ice because it gets so slippery! -Rig up a rattle reel to leave out overnight. -Small jigs with a fathead.
As soon as you scraped down to the ice, I said "Oh no, They are going to be wading before morning." Interlocking foam mats or leave the snow on. Even better is interlocking mats on top of the snow. A fan will double the efficiency of the heater and help reduce condensation. You have the right idea of keeping the heater up off the ice. You are right when you said that it's fun just being out there. Keep at it, you'll land one eventually!
Only Steve and Crazy Neighbour could give you a warm feeling while camping at -30C. In a sick and divided world this channel exudes nothing but good will to all and gives you hope for our future.
Hi Steve! A tip I've learned for the water in front of the heater, drill a partial ice fishing hole (like half way through the ice). The water will collect in the ice hole. It is very important to drill out that partial hole all the way when you are done with that fishing/camping spot so it refrezes properly, and nobody else sprains an ankle. I highly recommend added a rechargeable portable fan or two in your ice house when running the heater. It helps tremendously in moving the heat downwards. Another tip, is doing foam matts of some sort as a base on the ice. It blocks the cold from the ice which keeps your shack even warmer! Yes of course it's more gear, but definitely worth it in my opinion! Coming from Minnesota and Ice Fishing quite a bit!
No bait in winter = no bites. Even WITH bait, it's difficult most days. I sleep in my shack once a week throughout the winter... Motivated by you, of course. Great work.
A lot of people use those foam mats that fit together like a puzzle piece for the flooring in the ice fishing tent. They’re usually used for kids play areas but work great for ice fishing. That way you’re not dealing with the puddles in the ice.
I do this as well. I usually only clear a small spot around the hole down to ice. The rest I leave a few inches of snow and then put padding over the snow. Keeps the floor higher than your hole which helps with water buildup.
First line drop into the ice hole... "Is it weird that we're using the same hole?" 😂😂😂 Another great episode, Steve and Crazy Neighbor! I've been ice fishing many times without a shelter to block the wind, it's miserable, but a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. 😂
As someone who has ice fished and anchored my shack with snow, I can tell you that if you pile 3-5” of snow on your shack then stand on the snow to tamp it down very hard, your shack won’t go anywhere if wind comes up. You will need to shovel the snow off though otherwise you’ll tear the fabric (don’t ask me how I know lol). As for location each lake is different, but fish prefer a deeper location (water stays warmer deeper), and typically like to have vegetation around them. Additionally they will go dormant (unless they need food) in extremely cold weather which makes location even more important. As a fisherman that’s serious enough I have a fish finder mounted to my kayak and will also kayak fish in the ocean, I gotta say that it’s always a learning experience no matter how long you’ve been fishing. Loved the video and who cares if you catch a fish…we tune in to watch YOUR adventures. Happy New Year Mr. Wallis.
We would love to see another ice fishing expedition whether it’s successful or not! We are here for you Steve! Anything you post we will be happy with!:)
Next time, don't remove the snow where you place the tent. Just around the hole you are going to fish in. The snow pack will keep the warmth in while also keeping the ice from melting.
Steve, I'm not gonna lie - from an ice fishing perspective, that was kinda painful... lol! Steve I work in snow removal and highly recommended ski overalls, the brand that’s comfy and warm on your lower body is “Arctix” . They do a better job than just using thermal underpants . I use my jeans and the flexibility on these is top notch. If you can keep your legs warm you can survive super low temps.
Steve, next time grab some of those connect together foam mats to put on the floor of your tent. Keeps it warmer too, your gear doesn't have to sit on ice or in water.
Hi Steve, been watching for a while , recommended by corporals corner. Don't get -35 in the UK. Made me smile this eve. Seen tents blow away but never get up and walk! Thank you.
What's better than camping with Steve, camping with Steve and Crazy Neighbor ice fishing. You guys are hilarious. I can't get enough of you two. Stay safe and warm 💕
I wouldn't worry about how your first trip went. You basically did all the same things I did when I first started. I too bought a 8" auger, but that just takes way too much out of me to crank more than a couple of holes. Especially through 18" of ice. A 6" auger would be more manageable, or get an adapter that will let you use a portable hand drill. As for the melting ice, I have a Big Buddy heater as well and had the same problem. By morning, it melted a dish shaped indentation and was super slippery. Getting a big floor mat or even better foam mats will make the surface much safer and dryer to stand and walk on Also the size of the lures you have are a bit big for that shallow water. I think going with some wire worms would have netted you some whitefish or perch. I actually don't know what species are there where you guys were, but most AB lakes also have pike, walleye, and trout. If you ever have plans on fishing on Sylvan or Gull, I might try to meet you there.
Man now there’s a thought…Steve and Crazy Neighbor trying to figure out what to do after pulling a big ol angry pike through the hole! That’d make for an interesting watch for sure. I landed one in my kayak one time after a hell of a fight that lasted over an hour…and I can tell you not only did he drag me all over the lake, but he was aggressive enough in the boat that I’ve never got my knife out the sheath so fast in my life. Was good eats later that day.
God seeing Glenn (crazy neighbor$) so happy with Steve, is so wholesome. It’s not the same without him, but his legacy will live on. Rest in paradise Glenn. Keep Steve safe.
Few tips for the ice steve, interlocking foam matts or any sort of rubber matt for the floor gets rid of the ice and drys nice with the heater also keeping the propane outside when its really cold out can turn the propane to a liquid and cause heater failure and when you’re setting up the tent be carful with water and slush underneath or on the skirt of the tent and potentially freeze to the ice its very brutal to say the least
Congratulations, to both of you becoming "Serious fishermen"! It's not if you catch a fish or not, it's the experiences that you have while fishing. I would love to see another fishing video, even if the fish don't co-operate. Love this channel!
I think that Steve and Crazy Neighbor should be on the cover of a magazine like Canadian Ice Anglers Monthly, complete holding the cat litter scoop, a tiny rod, and a step 2. 🤣🐟
Ahhh....so envious!! we've had 40oC with 80% humidity here in Melbourne, so loved watching first vid of 2022! That was so nice of the restaurant to do a delivery to you guys. I bet you enjoyed it! It looks like you had some fun, even though no fish were nabbed! I hope Beautiful Wife and Garbage are well. So really looking forward to upcoming videos to see what shenanigans you guys get up to! Take care of yourselves and stay safe.
I live close to Steve and it is bone chilling cold 🥶 like hurts to breathe. Though 40° and humidity isn't my friend either 😅 hope your week goes well 😊
PRO TIP: Steve there is a place for the water to go, drill 3 or 4 holes in the ice around the tent on the edges, but dont go all the way through, you make a few pockets and as the ice melts it will fill the holes. (love the videos) > > > > > >
I ice fish regularly in colder weather then that. When you have a thermal insulated ice tent and a 10.000 to 18,000 btu heater like he does, the top layer of the ice melts and it gets very wet and slippery in the tent. And like I said in my comment you can get rid of the water in holes placed around the tent as long as you do not drill them all the way down/through the ice.
@@This-and-That you might be intending to, but thats not what you said. you said to drill holes AROUND THE TENT EDGES not inside the tent edges. that means outside of the tent.
I enjoyed this video very much. Reminded me of my youth when my New Hampshire, USA, cousins would take me ice fishing with them. You guys are a hoot! Love the both of you!!

Steve, please post all videos of you and crazy neighbor. I ice fish and still loved your video. Very entertaining. Don't give up, you and crazy neighbor learn a little more and you'll love the sport also. This time use bait Steve! Lures are better when you can get a more natural movement out of them. If you are doing suspended fishin, use bait.
Next time, don't remove the snow where you place the tent. Just around the hole you are going to fish in. The snow pack will keep the warmth in while also keeping the ice from melting.
I wondered that myself!
As soon as I saw them shoveling snow for a spot, I knew they'd just messed up. Snow pack is critical

The 'walking tent' never fails to amuse my inner child 😆
I couldn't stop laughing!!
“Is it weird that we’re are both using the same hole?” I nearly spit my coffee out! 🤣
I was gonna see if anyone else mentioned it. I was like, “Well, it kinda is now”. 🤣
Two fishermen, one hole.🤔
🤣
Steve I work in snow removal and highly recommended ski overalls, the brand that’s comfy and warm on your lower body is “Arctix” . They do a better job than just using thermal underpants . I use my jeans and the flexibility on these is top notch. If you can keep your legs warm you can survive super low temps.
All the years Steve has had the ice fishing tent and its never been used for its purpose until now.
I feel privileged seeing you actually fish 🐟 💙💙❤
Steve, next time grab some of those connect together foam mats to put on the floor of your tent. Keeps it warmer too, your gear doesn't have to sit on ice or in water.
That’s a great idea!
@@sohotimhot7975 whatever all that means 👎
I wouldn't worry about how your first trip went. You basically did all the same things I did when I first started. I too bought a 8" auger, but that just takes way too much out of me to crank more than a couple of holes. Especially through 18" of ice.
A 6" auger would be more manageable, or get an adapter that will let you use a portable hand drill.
As for the melting ice, I have a Big Buddy heater as well and had the same problem. By morning, it melted a dish shaped indentation and was super slippery. Getting a big floor mat or even better foam mats will make the surface much safer and dryer to stand and walk on
Also the size of the lures you have are a bit big for that shallow water.
Don't worry about whether or not you catch a fish - just enjoy the experience, and share it with us! 👍
One of my favorite quotes, “It’s called fishing, not catching”. Love the videos Steve!!!
Really excited for this year's videos. When I've had a crappy week, not feeling great, you ALWAYS put a smile on my face! You are proof that kindness, caring, and just overall goodness still exists in the world today! Great to see Crazy Neighbour with you again!
Though 40° and humidity isn't my friend either 😅 hope your week goes well 😊
40 above and humid is always worse than 40 below. You can only take off so many clothes when hot but can always layer more when it's cold.
Ditto from Hobart, Tasmania. Except we've not yet reached 40C...
@@bert.alberta thing is 40 c at 80 percent humidity is actually pretty comfortable
What a great friendship you two have, enjoying life to the fullest.
PRO TIP: Steve there is a place for the water to go, drill 3 or 4 holes in the ice around the tent on the edges, but dont go all the way through, you make a few pockets and as the ice melts it will fill the holes. (love the videos)
> > > > > >
its -22 degrees out. the ice isnt going to melt. nice protip from someone who dosent even understand the basics of temperature dynamics.
@@This-and-That the ice inside the tent melts, sure. but the ice outside the tent isnt going to melt at all.
@@FingerinUrDaughter Never said it would, I'm talking abort how to manage the water inside the tent :)
@@This-and-That you might be intending to, but thats not what you said. you said to drill holes AROUND THE TENT EDGES not inside the tent edges. that means outside of the tent.
I'm one of those weirdos that absolutely LOVE that crisp Canuck weather with the crunchy snow!
I love love LOVE Camping with Steve AND We love Crazy Neighbor too!!! Love and prayers from West Virginia!!!
I enjoyed this video very much. Reminded me of my youth when my New Hampshire, USA, cousins would take me ice fishing with them. You guys are a hoot! Love the both of you!!
I NEVER thought I’d be jealous of two guys sitting in a hut harassing fish through a hole in the ice, but here I am…..
Love this!
You're such an ice-hole🤭
I've never iced fish. Always wanted to..
Its cold. And slow going..there yah go, you've basically done it before.😂🎉
You know it is cold when the snow squeaks when step on it.
"Is it weird to be using the same hole?" may be the best fishing line I've ever heard. Cheers guys!
Nothing like watching camping with Steve and enjoying dinner with a step 2!
This has to be one of my favorite channels! We're experiencing heat wave conditions here in Cape Town, 35+ with high humidity. We're sweltering so this icy video is making me feel better. Take care Steve and Crazy Neighbour.
When snow squeaks like that you know it's cold! Hey Crazy Neighbour and Steve. Best moment: the tent walking across the ice, lol.
the ice build up on the beards are a give away also.
At those temperatures hot water instantly turn into snow when thrown into the air. That's always fun to try.
Always the highlight of my Thursday night at work, over here in the UK. Sets me up for a good working weekend. No alcoholic step 2s here, but a cup of tea will definitely do the trick - Keep up the great work Steve!!!
You can always tell how cold it is by the sound the snow makes when you're walking..
I got the chills just listening to that sound
Yupppp. Visions of my childhood walking to school in -20C. Eyelashes freezing together from my breath.
I've always said that I could tell the Temperature by the sound of the Squeaks when you Walk
This looks like an insane amount of fun. Good beer, good friends, great memories.
People usually get the puzzle mats from Walmart and put them on the floor of shack and it doesn't matter if you catch a fish or not it is all about the adventure
Steve, please post all videos of you and crazy neighbor. I ice fish and still loved your video. Very entertaining. Don't give up, you and crazy neighbor learn a little more and you'll love the sport also. Because it's not as much about catching a fish as it is about being out there camping, fishing, having a step 2 and just having fun and enjoying the outdoors.
A camper from Wisconsin
I love Crazy Neighbour's commitment to wearing his cowboy hat to the point where he wears a tuque underneath it to stay warm.
Nothing more Canadian than that .
You know my papaw told me once “when you go fishing it ain’t always about fishing. Sometimes you just need to be with nature and clear your head. Sometimes it’s all about being with friends or family and it’s almost always about the memories.” Great video always look forward to them on Thursdays.
My Daddy, and Pa said almost the same things...:-) So true...:-)
I’ve never been ice fishing but I use to go fishing with my ex husband all the time on his dad little boat . I think we did more drinking then fishing . I miss him he past away in 2011 and even though we’d been divorced for years I miss him he was my best friend . But I have 5 grown children that he helped give me
Yes this is MY 8th time watching this video!!! I still CAN NOT BELIEVE YOU STEVE ! making Canadians proud boys ! CRAZY NEIGHBOR WE LOVE YOU AND YOUR APPRECIATED BY STEVE AND ALL OF US !!! BEING FROM EDMONTON MYSELF THESE GUYS MAKE ME PROUD TO BE FROM WHERE I AM FROM ❤
Steve is so awesome because he is just a normal guy like all of us in the comments :D sometimes it's more fun than watching the "pros" do it
Totally agree well said
So ready for the warmth to return. Hey Steve and Crazy neighbor. Happy News Year.
6:20 The tent gliding by itself across the snow is the pure definition of 'stealth'
Nothing makes me prouder to be Canadian. Well Done Boys!! Well Done.
That is pretty much exactly what I envision ice fishing to be. Sitting in a frozen lake drinking beer. Love it! Thanks as always Steve and Crazy Neighbor.
Crazy Neighbour, what a guy 🙌
True Camper Steve followers aren't here to see "Ice Fishing", but instead are just here to follow the weekly adventures as always! 🤙
yeah, the ice fishing part is an extra added bonus! 🎣😀
Looked like fun. I wouldn’t have caught anything either but you guys made it look enjoyable. The bar sending over food was really nice. Take Care Guys, Stay Well & we will see you on the next one.
I love watching these. I will literally never do this - but just love watching it.
I have always wanted to go ice fishing, and I’ll tell you one thing, catching fish is in no way the most important reason. This video would be no more or less entertaining had you reeled one in, so keep em coming.
Really happy to see Jungles is still going strong. Good times to be had there for decades.
No! Please upload another fishing video - success or failure! I think most of your subscribers would agree with that. We get to live out these wonderful adventures through you and Crazy Neighbor lol
I tune in weekly to watch a guy eat hotdogs and drink beers in a tent. It makes me feel good.
- Steve its fabulous you made this your career. A+, you deserve every ad revenue penny you can get - for just being you.
sounds absurd when you put it like that, but thats what is is and it's brilliant lol
Ending my day with another great video from Steve and crazy neighbor... It doesn't get much better than this! 👍👍👍👍👍😁🍺
Hello from Oklahoma Steve and crazy neighbor! Just love watching your channel and all the camping. It’s got to be time for some school bus camping! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
The sounds of walking in the snow gives me chills.
