Why Liverpool and Manchester Hate Each Other | United vs Liverpool | Roots of the Rivalry
Anfield vs Old Trafford. Liverpool vs Manchester. LFC vs MUFC. The battle to be the best team in England in the North West Derby. In this edition of Rabona TV’s Roots of the Rivalry series, we’ll be looking at the historical background of the Liverpool and Manchester derby, going back to the 1800s when the Manchester Canal was constructed. Then, the eras of success for each team: The Busby Babes, Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Kenny Dalglish, and of course, Sir Alex Ferguson’s involvement in the rivalry between the two most successful clubs in English football history.

      One advise:
your historical videos do have good quality and deserve to be at higher level of views and success ...but videos with you playing video-games is boring and only interesting for geeks and other people into video-games.
I suggest you to leave this channel for one of those subjects and make a new one.
Also, due to your good speech, overall good quality in what you produce, you can start exploring other themes related with football, like: tactics, player's history, fun facts, historical-events,etc...
You can make a channel just focused in football's history or any other theme that there are not many like in UA-cam.
From Portugal and from a 'benfiquista': success to you and to our Benfica...may better days come and with it a European-title.

Both of these teams drive each other. I'm a passionate United fan, have been for over four decades, I have watched Liverpool be the dominant force, not just in England but also in Europe, while United languished with the odd FA cup win. But the rivalry spurred us on, and when Ferguson came along, promising to break the dominance of Liverpool, it changed the landscape again. This, despite a 28 year gap, has definitely bitten hard at Liverpool fans, who not only have had to watch United's success, have had to see the other Manchester Club, City, spend their way to titles due to a rich Sugar Daddy. But this year will probably be Liverpool's year... and if they win it, deservedly so. They have played the kind of football, I wish United were playing. Klopp is a great manager and they have a fantastic squad.
And nothing, absolutely nothing, should give United more determination than seeing their number one rival rise to success again.
And long may this rivalry continue.

I'm a United supporter since 1998. Although Man Shitty(wink wink) is rising these days and playing exceptional football. They're still not on the same level as United and Liverpool in terms of history, fan base, trophies(champions league elites), rivalries and integral structure. I really hope all these clubs rise to the top and create magical matches and moments for us all. And leave it to us to create the buzz, banter and the atmosphere. My dad told me that in the sixties, rival fans of these two clubs would stand next to each other on the terraces. So that might suggest that during the Shankly/Busby era, there was a healthy and competitive rivalry, but nothing more. I hated the eighties era, when the whole thing became ridiculously aggressive. 1985 FA Cup semi-finals at Goodison and Maine Road were horrendous.
I wish it hadn't stooped to such tribal levels and that both sets of fans could have celebrated each other as great English clubs.

Generally United fans did respect the old Liverpool with Shanks, Keegan, Heighway etc but when those old teams were replaced by teams full of cheaters, divers, racists, etc most respect died. Even Dalglish supported racism and 2 counts of GBH committed by the CLUB CAPTAIN ( which are BOTH on video). The very same captain dived for a penalty in the 2005 CL final which showed children all around the world that cheating pays off!!!
Add to that the hypocrisy of the club and fans regarding the tragic death of 39 Juve fans in 1985 along with the creation of sick songs celebrating the death of 23 people and you have a perfect recipe for a vile club and scum fanbase!
Sorry Cal H but Liverpool represent EVERYTHING that's bad in modern day football and most importantly of all set a terrible example to kids today on what is regarded as acceptable behaviour!
How else can you explain why a club which hasn't won a League Title in 28 years is so despised up and down the UK?

  • @whosthis7216
    @whosthis7216 5 років тому +52

Important to also point out that the Manc/Scouse rivalry goes beyond the shipping canal. It’s a deep hatred through traditional “divide and rule” Englishness. In England the North is far poorer than the south, this divide worsened once industry declined in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Manchester and Liverpool - with their distinctive accents, high crime rates and impoverished areas - became the butt of English jokes. Instead of linking up together as Lancastrians and fighting these cruel stereotypes, they decided to take it out on one another. They began themselves to abuse one another with those stereotypes in order to prove, not who was better, but who was WORSE. A “yeh we’re not great but at least we’re not them“ mindset. This became incredibly nasty. Incredibly prejudice. Enter the era of hooliganism + tragedies striking the two clubs, and the cruel humour became unforgivable actions and pure hatred.

It's not a Manc/ Scouse rivalry ....its an LFC / United rivalry. I'm a Scouser, I support Everton and I have no problem with anyone from Manchester. It purely comes down to United being jealous of Liverpool in the 70;s/80/s and Liverpool being jealous of United in the 90's /2000s. Any historic social / economic rivalry between the cities is just an excuse from 2 bitter sets of fans with a divine right to win complex .

      @KryptonitetoallBS 5 років тому +3

@@michealflaithbheartaigh4139 You are right about the LFC-MUFC thing. I agree it's not a city thing at all or why would Everton-City, United-Everton or City-Liverpool be just as volatile?
Where you're wrong is why there is a hatred between United and Liverpool. I know you're wrong because I experienced the hatred way before Liverpool did well in the 70's or United did well in the 90's.
The hatred was beginning back at LEAST as early as 1973 as Liverpool's sick song was sung in many school playgrounds around the country. Certainly in mine. Sure there are MANY other contributory factors and yours are part of that, but they didn't start the rivalry.
Btw United and Everton used to get along just fine. I stood on the Gladys Street end as a teenager in the 80's and cheered when Frank Stapleton scored . The Everton fans were sound with me but that's changed nowadays. Sadly they have adopted some of the animosity usually reserved for the Red Shite ( as you would call them) ;-)

In all countries there are regional tensions, with the rich regions looking down on poorer, less populated and less sophisticated regions. Find me a country where this doesn't happen.

I knew about nothing of the local rivelry between Merseyside and Manchester. Still based on the fan base in my village Man Utd and Man Utd fans became a natural rival to me and I guess this was mutual. During the 1980's the Man Utd fans were reduced to nothing. You actually kind of downplay Newton Heath's record...
They actually had pretty good players and had a bunch of good upsets against more established teams, but was plagued by mismanagement ( kink of like today's post sir Alex era ) hence the slide down.
It was due to these potential that there was interest in purchase of the club and restructuring&/ rebranding did work in rising the club's profile. However, when these "promising players" were gone they struggled in getting new good players since all the good Manchester players would rather play in the well financed Man City.
That's why Sir Matt Busby's solution in developing young talents was a great idea that revolutionized the game.

Would love to see you do a root of the rivalry video for Leeds Vs Man Utd, still considered by many to be one of the biggest rivalries in England, but obviously hasn't been played competitively for quite some time due to the misfortunes of Leeds United.
Still, both supporters definitely don't like each other very much, even after all of these years.
Fun fact: Leeds will be playing Manchester United in a 'friendly' in Perth, Australia next year, this will be the first time the two clubs have met since they last played back in 2011.

A Man Utd vs Leeds video would be awesome.
    That is REAL hatred.
With Liverpool it is hatred of the club and the rival success.
With Leeds it is simple hatred.

Leeds and Manchester hate each other due to hooliganism and also because the counties of Yorkshire and Lancashire have hated each other for about 900 years even going to war

the so called hatred between the 2 clubs really started when fergie joined united and said the effing perch thing but, he also knew that the only way to get united to their apex was to instill a hatred for the club that had totally eclipsed them for the last 20 years, the only problem was that they had forgotten how much these 2 clubs had actually respected eachother throughout the years to the extent that when tragedy struck in 58 it was liverpool football club that offered united a pick of their junior players in order to lessen the hardship that was impending unfortunately the supporters that are younger dont know this and why some mention munich 58 and on the other side they sing murderers if both set of supporters really knew about how things were before 58 there would be respect on both sides, i wish it could be like it was pre 58 when there was rivalry but all that mattered was watching great football

The real hatred actually started before fergie joined United. I remember the ‘ CS gas ‘ game at anfield in the 85/86 season when Liverpool fans threw a noxious substance at the arriving United team and Ron Atkinson. Plus the antics at the 85 cup semi final at goodison has gone down in history. It was lively to say the least!! That was in the ground during the game!!
