I’m a United fan and I remember this season very well. This was the same season when United struggled to get clean sheets and had an aging and bizarre defence, but STILL managed to win the league and by a comfortable margin (11 points). Would have won it by 15 or more points but he relaxed a little because the title was already won in like March. Love him or hate him, you have to admit that Alex Ferguson was a monster!!

Thankfully it combined with Aguero having his worst season for City (only 17 goals). Had he scored 30 like he had done the previous season I probably would have gone right to the end again or City might have won it. In Moyes first season part of the reason why he did so badly and United were 15 points behind 4th place even was suddenly we weren't free-scoring in a lot of games. Average for the season was 1.684 goals a game, whereas it had been 2.263 goals a game. Which is what you'd expect a title winner to have as an average as if you are scoring between 2-3 goals a game you would expect to win most of the 38 games of a season. Unless you are really good in defence you aren't going to get anywhere near the top of the league. Mourinho seems to have addressed the problem this season as last season United scored less goals than Bournemouth! and the season before that only scored 1 more that Sunderland! Thankfully winning the F.A Cup, League Cup and Europa League in the last 2 years and returning to the Champions League have glossed over what would have been seen as 2 more poor seasons for United.

LvG won UCL title with Ajax in the 90s, won the Dutch title with Az Alkmaar in 08-09 and was 3rd at the WC 2014 with one of the worst Dutch teams ever - only Robben and RVP were the standout players in that team - He also had to completely change the formation and tactics because of Strootman's injury and lets not forget how he changed keepers for the penalty shootout vs Costarica which proved to be a masterclass decision .

I still feel so aggrieved by that sending-off against Madrid - Fergie had out-maneuvered the opposition with spot-on tactics and then Nani had a red through an abysmal decision. I remember being surprised that Sir Alex did not turn up for the post-match, though in hindsight it was clear how much of a blow it was. It was prove his last chance - Oh what might have been...
Brilliant video though I'd also like to add that it was fitting that while City had to wait on tenterhooks till the very last seconds to win the league, United won it in cool, professional fashion with a few games to spare. Guess that happens when you're used to winning titles!

From your comment, I think only a few things are clear:
      1. Either you did not see the incident or you are not clear about the rules regarding dismissals, perhaps even the general rules of football altogether.
      2. Your attempt to paint it as simply bitterness on the part of United fans is really misguided - a bad call is a bad call and it's unfortunate when it happens to the team you support. Do United fans think it's harsh? Of course we do. Do we think it's harsh ONLY because we are United fans? Absolutely not. It was simply a bad call.
      3. Further, going by your desperate attempt to look cool which you would refer to as your profile picture and the nature of your comment it seems to me that there is a very high douchebag count in your bloodstream. I might be wrong, but the evidence is pretty stellar. You might be a troll on top of that, in which case I just want to congratulate you since you've posted a negative comment on a UA-cam video which must really be the highlight of your daily routine. Well done my friend, I leave you to your ignorance and cynicism.
TL;DR - Please don't comment about United fans. Or red cards. Or football. In fact, don't say anything at all. It would suit you best :)

And I recall ManUtd had a goal from v.Persie wrongly disallowed in that game for offside should've been 3-5.
But not a surprising score as both teams were bad in defence that season. One big difference was ManUtd had world class attackers. Reading conceded 7 to Arsenal didn't they in the league cup...lost from 4-0 up lol you know your defence is crap when that happens.

    • @Daisy_3011
      @Daisy_3011 4 роки тому

There's basically two types of teams. Some managers go with the odds - the less they score, less goals needed to win making it easier to outscore, managers like Fergie go full attack and outscore opponents no matter how many they concede. When implemented correctly both tactics can win you trophies. Attacking is riskier because usually worst you'll get playing defensively is draw 0-0, while failing attacking might lead to high defeats like 2-4 etc. It's important to have correct players for what you want that's why sacking managers too often leads to chaos. Ole is now struggling against teams that park the bus but he's doing well against strong opponents not afraid to attack because then he's playing defensively, getting quality up front who will break through might be just what he needs to win against mid table teams regularly.

I remember the match against real madrid. i remember that Real Madrid was scary as hell. They were one of the top teams in Europe at that time. But a damn old fekin monster called Sir Alex Ferguson proves that Manchester United can compete with anyone regardless what they are. we have a good world class player but few of them are already getting old. and combined with a young good player such as De gea , Kagawa.
But i remember we outrun varane and ramos with fekin Nani and Welbeck. Even Rafael at the first half of second leg makes a great overlap. i remember we had a great games at the first half (IMHO that is the most beautiful football that Manchester United produces in Europe in that season against top tier teams) before Nani red card.
Maybe the reason why Sir Alex didnt go the press conf. because he was devastated. Maybe he felt the same way as we felt that Manchester United can win the game. even Jose Mourinho, says "the best team lose".

This is what I mean though, Everyone says "oh he was shit" "clueless blah blah blah ect" but what were his actually tactics, like this channel is really good for explaining the bigger picture. I'm a united fan but don't particular enjoy players like Lingard but after watching the video on here about him it enlightened me a bit. There is a reason Moyes played the way he did, no one goes into a job wanting to lose and I think this channel would do a really good job of A showing what Moyes wanted from this United team and B showing why it went wrong. One major flaw I remember is the game against Fulham where we just crossed the ball about 80 times, It was an awful game but I don't get why Moyes wanted us to play that way.

rgejsv moyes mistake 1: tried to change too much too quickly.... he sacked the multiple title winning staff for his own and totally changed fitness regimes which took its toll on players like rooney giggs rvp. 2: failed to pull the trigger on many top signings hence was forced to buy fellaini as a panic. 3: he tried to impose a vision but wasn't clear on what it was so players got confused and gave them negative vibes. 4: he always set the team up not to lose while barely trying to win 5: he was unclear on how to move the ball forward and often wanted long balls and diagonal balls (hence the fulham game) and last he couldn't win over the senior players and couldn't motivate the team

Sir Alex kept on re-Inventing himself and winning. He never stopped winning. Built Aberdeen from scrap and won the European Cup Winners Cup. I was lucky enough to be there for his final home game.
I had a Mancunian work colleague who was a season ticket holder. At the start of every season he used to ask me what games I wanted to see at Old Trafford. As he was working in London he couldn't make every home game. But he was always there for the big ones.
I'd always plump for the last pre Christmas game (assuming it wasn't against a big rival) and the final home game of the season.
He guaranteed the final home game as it was against Swansea.
With three weeks to go Sir Alex announced his retirement. Clearly that ticket he promised me was now like gold dust.
But true to his word my colleague let me and my 12 year old son have the tickets at face value. True gent he was.

He didn't come from a more lenient era at all.
There's more avenues to succeed nowadays especially if you manage a rich club if you're not getting results you rightly lose your position. There's also no 5/6 year European ban for English clubs like Ferguson had in his early days at ManUtd which not only made it impossible to win or qualify for European competitions during that time, it also would've denied him the chance to buy very good foreign players available because the European ban was a turn off to foreign players when considering a move to England.
Even without the European ban for the first 10 years he managed ManUtd the qualfying rules were harsher only the English champions could qualify for Champions league even in a 22 team league rather than 20 teams and it was 15 years into his ManUtd managerial career that English teams could finish 4th out of 20 and qualify like it's been ever since (although he never finished as low as 4th in the PL era) but also since then another more lenient rule you can finish outside top4 but qualify for CL via winning EuropaLeague. There's definitely more avenues to get success nowadays.
Ferguson won the CupWinnersCup for ManUtd in the very first season English clubs had their European ban lifted.
Many fools count his first season as 1 of his failed seasons before he started to win things which is crazy, he joined in November with the club in 19th place impossible for them to win the league etc...
Why do you think he had more time in his era?

I don’t think Man Utd’s squad in Ferguson’s last 3 seasons in charge was that strong at all, especially the midfield. So to win 2 league titles out of 3, very nearly win the title that they missed out on, and reach a CL final during that period shows his managerial genius. Even in 2011/2012 despite blowing the 8 point lead with 6 games left, to finish with 89 points with that pretty weak squad for Man Utd’s high standards especially with Vidic completely out for the second half of the season, was actually hugely impressive.
During Ferguson’s time in charge, Man Utd had both a lower gross and net spend on transfer fees than Liverpool, despite generating significantly higher revenues. So he didn’t spend a lot of money at all relative to the club’s resources and financial power.

    • @gm2407
      @gm2407 2 роки тому

@@thangchano I think a big thing overlooked is that once SAF managed to get his squad into a routine for preperation and match day behaviours the performances became automatic and the match results followed. It was all about the process the results were expected not just desired.
For example look at Michael Carrick's testimonial. The line up was made up of players from 2006-2013 the positioning, passing, general play in the first half was just like watching a match from any season of that period. The play was so well drilled and second nature that years after retirements and playing under different managers it was identical and appeared just as effective.
When SAF retired United changed not just the manager but the key coaching staff. The approach to games changed. Scholes who could not be perfectly replaced was replaced with someone who plays a totally different game. So not only the approach had changed but so had the pattern of play.
United was a formula one car being asked to do ralley time trials with a change of driver and tyres. It was not what the team was built for or where it was expected to perform.
Precision watch making equipment used by a sausage fingered clown as a hammer might be a bit harsh on Moyes, but really there are few managers who could really have taken over and maintained the prep levels and methodology. Mourinho at this time rather than later maybe. But even then he would have to content with Woodward being unable to secure a solid cm.

Made it to the champions league final again in 2010-11 only to lose to what I consider the greatest club team ever.. the 2009-2012 Barcelona team which had Xavi and Iniesta at their prime, arguably Messi’s best ever years along with David Villa and Pedro completing the front 3... if not for that amazing Pep Guardiola side I think United would have won champions league again

True if Guardiolas Barcelona didn't exist, united would have 5 cl titles. And if we weren't so unlucky to face real Madrid in last 16, considering the fact that we came 1st in our group and the number of teams that we were eligible to play against then we would of made it at least the semis

Say whatever you like about the man, he is a dinosaur, but a very dangerous one. He can make a title winning team with shitty defense and crappy midfield. Give the same team to Pep or Klopp, will they get same result??

That "shitty defence" still scored more combined than I can recall ManUtd defenders scoring in other seasons maybe apart from when Steve Bruce or DenisIrwin used to take pens.
It was also a midfield which probably had the most amount of different midfield goalscorers in 2012/13.

Fergie was planning to retire at the end of the 11-12 season if United had managed to win the league as he really the current squad was coming close to the end of it's cycle and wanted to go out on a high, luckily due to VP's goals and managing to squeeze one more good season out of his players he won it in 12-13. But it was obvious by what happened to Moyes, that he wasn't going to be able to do the same and the over 30s club/Fergie Favourites weren't going to give him enough time to rebuild properly. Only signing Mata and Felliani (who ironically have both proven to be good signings as they are still there now and involved in the team regularly) was not enough. If Mourinho can win the League this season having inherited players from Fergie, Moyes and LVG as well as blending in his own signings into the team, it will really show what a great manager he is. If he can then bring that 4th European Cup to add to the Europa League before he goes off to his next project, he will go down as one of United's legends. Either way it's nice to be genuine challengers again rather than competing for a Top 4 position and a cup competition on the side. (We'll leave that kind of thing to the Goons)

    • @PaddyM1971

Losing players like Paul pogba for next to nothing and having to buy him back for 100 million. His legacy of an awful squad was down to his desperation to end by winning the league. It might have been a great win, but at what cost.
