It's rare to see a drummer whos also the singer. Drummers deserve way more love and spotlight. Amazing voice and great performance from everyone involved!
Maybe because it can be annoying to mix in live settings lol
Check out the band "The Colourist"! Their drummer sings
At least Phil Collins
Night Ranger drummer sings some of their biggest hits.
Check out The warning. there are some songs where the drummer sings lead
That voice....bruh. That's the kind of vibration that shakes your core.
it just pours out so clean
Fr I literally got chills as soon as they started singing and that shit lasted all throughout
He has a good voice, but Chris Cornell (VO of the song) was a level higher IMO.
This is nice... But Cornells performance on this song is unmatchable. It's a range thing. He's not hitting the right notes, through the end in particular.
Fun Fact: Chris Cornell was originally the drummer for Soundgarden. When he told them he wanted to try singing, they initially laughed, because they had never heard him sing before.
Before Sound Garden he was the drummer for a band called "Center for Disease Control Boys" he sang and was "Jake" on their title track. They recorded two songs and you can still find them on UA-cam
Each member had to write their own verse, and Chris couldn't find a good rhyme for Chris so he chose Jake for crying sake.
He tried to sing and drums at the same time but dropped the stick was too hard😅
Well heavy music druming ask way more breath that jazz soul soft music😊
Chris Cornell and Phil Collins, birds of of a feather.... who knew?
@@nr4ddannnnnd Dave Grohl 🤘
The real star here is that snare sound. God it's beautiful. You all killed this!
His whole kits sounds awesome. Super warm toms.
No. That snare can't play itself. No matter how much you'd like to take the credit from him, it was the guy playing it who deserves the credit. No matter how many inanimate objects you'd like to revere. Lol. UA-cam LEAVE ME AND MY POSTS ALONE!!! NOTHING I HAVE SAID HAS VIOLATED ANY OF YOUR RULES AND GUIDELINES!!! *LEAVE ME ALONE!!!*
that snare sounds good also on metal music.
@@larrysabangan7480 Metal sucks. Lol.
rite?
WOW. Willie Ray Moore's performance is the perfect marriage of a heavenly voice and earthly drumming.
Muy cierto! y Black Hole Sun es una muy poderosa composición
Well Said, Well said
I saw this in person, the video doesn't come anywhere near how it is irl. He had the whole theater teary eyed and silent. You guys are amazing at finding true talent.
They are truly amazing live. I saw them tonight and WOW.
@lisaa5860 RIGHT?
Oh I wish I was there too.
Show of hands: who's gotten to experience Willie Ray Moore, Jr. performing this one live on #PMJtour??
And he was FANTASTIC!
This was amazing live!
I had a huge smile on my face!
Saw it when you guys were in seattle it was easily top 3 performances of that night
Caught this during the stop in Decatur, IL.
This is beautiful; I feel such chills I want to cry. I am a drummer and singer (sometimes both at once), I love jazz and Soundgarden and Chris Cornell and Black Hole Sun, and you gentle folk nailed all of these buttons at once. Thank you.
Miss you, Chris.
He’s so talented to sing and play the drums at the same time! Wow!
Like rubbing your tummy and patting your head at the same time, I have NO idea how he does this.
Chris was originally the drummer and singer for Soundgarden as well. A fitting tribute.
Truly impressive. Thats why Donovan of Hail the Sun is one of my favorites. This guy killed it.
To be fair many drummers do it, but yeah he’s exceptionally good at it
I recommend you check out 'The Teddy Campbell Band'. Too bad Teddy hasn't done much with the band lately.
Unreal... a dark, foreboding grunge anthem turned into a gorgeous orchestral ballad sung by a man with the voice of an angel. Just amazing. I hope we hear a lot more from Willie Ray Moore Jr.
If you ever are so fortunate to spend time in the presence of Mr. Moore and get to have a conversation, you will find he is a really loving human being.
Well he does sound like an angel to me so this is not a surprise. Beautiful soul
I love being able to say this: I know that guy. I’m so freaking proud of you, Ray! Keep it coming.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn that voice. Rare that I get goosebumps with vocals and piano alone but that first line. Wow. 💜
Yesss just hit me immediately
That was so beautiful and somehow made a melancholy song even more melancholy.
I re wrote this comment a dozen times. You can’t imagine the impact Ray had on all of us in our little music scene 20 years ago. Ray could make more of a statement with a snare than Most can with a whole drum store. Many of us knew we really couldn’t hang in with him but it didn’t matter. He let us share the stage with him all the same no matter how good we were. When you see him out there he takes all of our love and hopes with him. Cheers Ray. Keep Bangin.
Just beautiful. Black Hole Sun always felt like it could easily be jazz. Thank you so much!
Agreed! This song was made to be heard as a gin-joint jam.
Paul Anka recorded a jazzy version for his excellent album "Rock Swings" a long time ago: ua-cam.com/video/ZEjGgkRbuxI/v-deo.html
Paul Anka did a cover several years ago that has a similar feel. I think PMJ does a better job, but Paul Anka's is pretty good too.
Best is Norah Jones :D
Sure Chris will love this cover... thanks for him😊
"Would" love
Welp, this is embarrassing. How is it possible I hadn't heard of Willie Ray Moore, Jr. before? What a VOICE!!! Absolute perfection in tone, modulation, and control. Just incredible. And when you finally find your jaw that rolled under your desk and put it back on, you realize he's playing killer drums, too! Wow.
Seeing the sax and bass players just taking a minute to watch Moore and soaking it in is really nice.
I took a nap on the couch.. Woke up and turned on UA-cam. This was the first thing in my recommendations.
I was transported. Floored. What a performance. Wow.
Man, that's beautiful! RIP Chris Cornell
What kind of miraculous, musical goodness is this? ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
how to ruin the song and the meaning of the song...this isn't music is shit
Been a musician my entire adult life. Been a PMJ fan for years. Cornell fan longer...bravo gentleman. 👌 A+++
Absolutely brilliant. Chris would be proud!
Willie's voice sounds like one of the musical instruments. What harmony! And also his beautiful touches of the drums. I forgot how to breathe again while I was listening. Brilliant!
I was fortunate to hear/see Ray perform dozens of times, back when I lived in Fresno. He is truly gifted.
CA?
@ Yes, Fresno, California
@@ChrisWalsh-k6y That's crazy. I grew up not too far from there
@@brownskinbeauty. Ray Moore has lived in the Fresno area for many, many years.
Hell Yes! Now this is the Postmodern Jukebox we need in 2024! Great rendition guys!
The tone from the trombone is so buttery, warm, and sweet it's like a giant slice of french toast in which I'd like to wrap myself.
He is so talented! Playing drums is hard enough on its own, and then add singing like that on top!? So good
I could play drums and sing this at the same time, it's not that difficult to do if you know the song. But to sing so beautifully like that and play so skillfully like that, I can only dream of it
Dear Lord, not what I expected. This was an audio-visual fountain of delight. It was bold, nuanced, soft at times, and then racing to an epic finish. Bravo sirs!!!
For those of us that are of a certain age, we are often possessive of the songs of our childhood and early adulthood. How many times have we heard elevator music at the mall and cringed at a familiar song that has been butchered? This was fantastic. It kept all the emotions of the lyrics and introduced it with a new musical texture. Thank you sir.
How could you make a legendary song even more legendary? By doing what you guys have done. OUTSTANDING 10th anniversary performance!!!!
Loved hearing this live! Willie your voice blew me away.
I just wanted to say that the first time I heard the original song inside a vehicle with the hardest hitting bass is something I will never forget.
I never knew I needed this, but here we are.
Jaw-droppingly stunning all around. This isn’t simply a cover, it’s a classic reimagined in every way. Bravo! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Ray is amazing. We are all so proud of him in his hometown, Fresno, CA.
He is a star!
I watched this gentleman live in Chicago some months back perform this and I'll say that even this wonderful version pales to watching Willie sing and play his heart out. I'll cherish those sticks I got and make sure he signs them again hopefully next tour ❤❤
This singer/drummer gave me chills when he started singing!! His voice was amazing! Love this rendition of this song, perfectly sung!!
Bring the house down! Reminds me of a show I went to and that man was SINGING his entire soul to the crowd while in total control of the drumset. I'll never regret pulling my friend out to see that show.
I used to be in a jazz band and to this day, brushes on snare drums give me chills, every single time. Using them on this particular song and I'm absolutely hooked.
WOW. I loved the Haley Reinhart version of this song... but this is something else! It's mind blowing. Soul shattering. Completely amazing.
What a beautiful voice and song. Thank you
What a fantastic way to start the new year. Finding this cover is a lightning bolt of pure and positive energy. Simply amazing. Thank you gentlemen!
Had the privilege to see this stunning performer live. Amazing drummer and vocalist. Hope to see Willie Ray again next time PMJ rolls into town. Not only is he a much better drummer than I am, but he is also a much better singer. I can't sing. Much love and respect Willie Ray.
Willie Ray Moore Jr is phenomenal!
So much beauty involved. Cornell will be honored.
That was some of the most elegant and effortless looking drumming I have ever seen. That man has a gift.
Masterful arrangement and performance of this song! Willie Ray Moore, Jr.---AWESOME!!!
My FAVORITE song that I saw on the tour (and that's saying something).
Absolutely amazing 👏🏻
My goodness…. This voice….this drummer ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉 thank you 😊
What a perfect cover, genuine repsect to the original song. That came from the hear! 🤟✌️🙏👍👌♥️🇨🇦
LOVE PMJ!!!!! Played on "Sunday Jukebox", August 25th, 2024 ~ BeFM, Busan, South Korea
So impressive how PMJ keeps turning out such creative arrangements and introducing most of us to singers we've never heard of...and end up loving...👏👏👏
I've always liked this song! Y'all did it justice 🔥🔥🔥
It's the highest level of musicianship! Happy Anniversary! ❤❤❤
Wow, WOW! I love Soundgarden, I love this song, but just, WOW!! BRAVO!
This song was a real highlight last time I saw PMJ
Absolutely beautiful! His voice is the smoothest velvet ever. I couldn't stop listening to the song over and over again.
Those bell accents on the ride were just Chef’s kiss
We saw this tour live. Willie Ray Moore has the BEST voice I have ever heard!
3:17 the sax's player's face is all of us.
Beautiful rendition.
He is fucking amazing!
His voice is so angelic! Combined with his drums playing it's a 1-2 punch to the heart!
Saw them in Beverly, MA this year. They were INCREDIBLE! And this singer/drummer blew me away! Much love for that talent!
The most moving version of this song I ever heard was 2 days after the passing of Chris Cornell at the Rose Bowl when it played over the PA system just before U2 took the stage and the entire crowd sang along in mourning. Last night I saw the #PMJTour in Salt Lake City, and heard this version for the first time. It was a close second. Well done, Willie Ray Moore Jr.!
Wow! What A VOICE 💜
At Atlanta Lollapalooza, 1990somethjng, rain was eminent. A huge dark cloud made it’s way above the stage, about the same time as Soundgarden took it.
The crowd was silent, waiting to be either drenched, or to hear the news that the band couldn’t perform.
I kid you not, as soon as the chorus of Black Hole Sun hit, the cloud parted and a burst of sunshine beamed down on Chris and the boys!
The crowd went wild!
It was as close to a “religious experience” as I’ve ever had.
Way less good band, but I had the exact opposite experience with rain at a Korn concert. No rain the first several songs, as soon as they start Coming Undone the heavens just opened up and downpour. As soon as the song ends, so does the rain. Didn't feel another drop the rest of the show.
shit, you gave me goosebumps
I seen the premiere of Pink Floyd's the Wall at the midnight movies in the early 80s while trippin' on 4 hits & my friends spent 20-30 minutes getting me to leave the theater because I was completely floored & just couldn't deal with reality, then, they got me outside, sat me on the curb, I see an empty parking lot, but, my red 69 Camaro is parked next to a parking lot light & the light has a perfect ray of light beaming down on my car & I knew exactly what to do, so, we spent several hours simply cruising around Houston!! 😎
Was at a 311 concert and the sky decided to give us a pre-show lightning storm just as the band was starting. The greatest opening any band could ever get.
Lakewood?
When my mom, whose favorite singers were Johnny Mathis and Billie Holiday, said she liked this song, I knew it could be done this way. This was amazing. I could listen to both versions back to back.
saw this live on my birthday on November 29th, absolutely gorgeous.
Killed it in Anaheim, everyone amazing, but when my girl asked what my highlight was, this was my favorite all around performance that night. Great job and so happy I got to see PMJ live for my 1st time last night.
Magical version. What a voice!
WOW! So, this is what real music sounds like without Autotune. Beautiful.👍
Siempre se agradece una voz natural
I think autotune has been used quite a bit in this, actually.
@@happyenda3632 Believe it or not, professional singers who have practised their whole lives can actually sing like this.
@@happyenda3632 I know! right? why are they messing up such an awesome live performance with that warbled, artifact ridden tuning? the guy can obviously sing. just let the off notes exist. Such a shame.
@@reverse_engineered No.. thats a tuning effect. Anytime his voice is about to go out of key you can hear it snap back in tune. The worst part is when he tries to do those vocal inflections and the processor cant handle it. You hear artifacts and his voice gets warbled. Nothing about that is natural nor does it sound good.
Oh this is gorgeous. That thing he does with the brushes fires up waves of happy in my brain.
This whole vibe was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of the best covers of this song ever! Simply sublime ❤
Oh my! Straight onto my playlist. Brilliant.
Ray's voice has been beautiful since childhood. You sound amazing and the band is 🔥🔥🔥
I appreciate that you guys release songs you've covered before but with different artists. They bring enough new to each interpretation to stand on their own - sometimes it's hard to pick a favorite!
Yearrrr what so much good vibes ! Big love from France ;-)
🎉 Sounds like l am at the Roosevelt Hotel back in the day. Simply wonderful
Dope af ❤
No words. Just beautiful.
How do I like this video more than once? Someone, please help me. This is so touching. I could listen to this all day and not get bored.
Great song and a superb performance!
1 of my favorite songs all over again, great job Gent's! 👍🏾👏🏾🤘🏾
Yeah another 10th anniversary song, thanks you all!
Love the way Willie Ray melds the melody lines of the vocals with the rhythms of his drumming...I'm sure the same spirit helped Chris make this such a memorable song, as he was a pretty decent drummer himself originally. Well done, PMJ!
Jazz will always reign supreme over all other genres 💁♂️
I felt so grungy to feeling cultured. Thank you!
I worked one of the shows and the song was amazing.
Thank you for helping making the show happen - it takes a village!
This style is right up my alley! The vocals are velvety smooth, and we don't hear brushes on the drums as much as we need to anymore! Fantastic arrangement, I believe Chris Cornell would totally be on board with this wonderful rendition!
It’s rare to hear something beautiful these days
Very nice arrangement, classy, beautiful and the production and mix are top notch 👌🏼
PMJ has come a long way from hiding the drummer in the back to putting him front and center. 😂
A huge favorite of mine since its release back in 1994, I've never heard a cover of this song I could listen to from beginning to end ... Until now. Thank you for an incredible performance.
He is also a very efficient drummer, using mostly his wrists and fingers to play, no crazy arm movements.
The intro was just bloody beautiful! 😀 followed by more awesome! Loved it!!!😊
Chris Cornell would have been proud. RIP
Oh my this absolutely blows me away. Willie Ray's tone and drumming are just simply phenomenal! Amazing job by everyone!
They finaly made the drummer a playable character.
Took them a decade to get all the achievements done. So worth the wait.
