    Everything about the Tuono is fantastic. People moan about it chugging in low gears around town. I love that, bit of clutch control and the feeling of a caged bull ready to be unleashed! Fuel consumption....who gives a fuck it's a V4.
    Maintenance, I've had one for 2 years, basic servicing myself and not one problem!
    If you moan about this bike, go and buy an inline 4 and be boringly happy

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому

      It very much does feel like a caged bull at low rpm, and to your point, it is indeed a raging Italian V4! That's actually one of the traits I think gives it the most character. Glad to hear yours has been reliable as well! How many miles has it traveled if you don't mind my asking?

    The no1 bad thing about owning a Tuono V4 is that there is nothing better to experience in motorcykling
    after this bike. No2 is bad mpg, plan your trip well and dont go to far from the nearest gastation.
    No3 is the 20000 km service. No4 is that you have to save money for your next Tuono.

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому

      All very valid points 😂 I don’t feel like mine has too terrible of range when I’m not on the throttle hard, such as when putting around town, seems to get similar range to other bikes I’ve owned. But, the tank holds more fuel as well, so I suppose that is deceiving.. 👀

    I should feel lucky with what the Aprilia dealer charges here in Kansas City. $36 to reset the service light and I balked at that! I have a small enough foot that I never noticed needing to adjust rear brake but was glad that they did have the little eccentric as I would hit the famous neutral if I was wearing my Dainese 3/4 boots but no issues with my Alpinestars ankle boots. Problem solved now. Speaking of shifter, 2 things I didnt like about it at 1st. One was in the beginning couple of months when I noticed the lock bolt that clamps the shifter on the shaft had decided to go MIA. Very common from what I read. Also how "flimsy" the shifter felt, took care of that with the aftermarket sleeve with roller bearing that stiffens it all up. One "grip" I have plus others with Aprilia's didnt like how you couldnt manually set the TFT display to full time night mode which makes it a lot easier to see in the day. That was a easy fix by cutting a triangle shaped piece of vinyl and placing it over the sensor. I'll take a pic and put it on IG and tag you in it if you would like to share. I also used a piece of plexiglass safe tint and covered the whole screen. Helps with the glare. Think that's all I have compared to your list.

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому +1

      Now that you mention it, the shifter does feel a bit flimsy considering the powerful feel you get just slipping the clutch. I have a Woodcraft GP shift lever, but I don't think it really changed anything as far as feel goes. That's a cool trick for permanent dark mode on the dash! I did get your message on IG, thanks for sending it over! 🙂 The safe tint is a great idea too. Does it distort the display at all?

    I test rode a left over 2019 model Tuono Factory when I was getting my R1 service. I love it. Almost decided to buy it cause they had 0% interest for 60 months until end May, but then I saw the new 2021 facelift. I may wait and see the new 2021. My dealer said they getting the 2021 Tuono in June. So we'll see. The 2017-2020 front just look old. No LED and old style halogen headlight is why I consider the 2021. I'm use to my newer 2015+ R1 with all LED lights. lol.

      I prefer the term “classic” to describe the halogen lights on the 2017-20 front end 😜 The 2021 should be quite a bike though! Hey Pete, appreciate you chiming in! Glad to hear your bike has been trouble-free after so many miles and proper care. 🙂 I never really thought about the clutch, as I don't ride in heavy traffic much and always use the quickshifter and blipper once I'm moving. I can definitely see the clutch weight becoming a challenge in heavy traffic and low speeds where it needs to be feathered.

      Absolutely. 2017+ added an autoblipper, cruise control, cornering ABS, a pit lane speed limiter, a color TFT dash, and other electronics enhancements. The blipper and cruise control are more than worth the extra money between a 16 and 17 in my opinion.

    I kind of understand the service through Aprilia as I spoke to a distributor in Australia and most of all the issues that owners have experienced is because they serviced the bike themselves and used wrong oil etc and I think they are trying to control this so that reputation of reliability is gone

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому +1

      That makes sense overall, it just frustrated me being one of the few that takes proper care of their machine and has to suffer the consequences of others not doing so. It is what it is, though, and I’m certainly still delighted to have the bike and wouldn’t trade it for anything else 🙂

    Chad, another great video, you explain things so very clearly and honestly.
    I agree with what you say about the oil change frequency, I do the same as oil is the cheapest item (per kilometre) that you put into your bike. I use Castrol Power 1 Racing full synthetic.
    The service light is a nuisance even though I can see both sides of the story.
    Non adjustability of the rear brake lever is bad but your solution is good.
    The left hand switch block is cluttered but there are many functions there.

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Alex! I am ~192cm and I absolutely love riding it, although I will admit the riding position is a bit tight and aggressive. I wouldn't say it's uncomfortable, and certainly miles more comfortable than a fully-faired supersport/superbike, but it is a bit snug for me compared to some of the other naked bikes out there that I've ridden, like the KTM Super Duke R. That said, I'm much happier with my Tuono than I imagine I ever could have been with the Super Duke, and never really give any thought to the position while riding. Given it is a sportbike, and they're rarely made with taller riders like us in mind, I think it's acceptable for someone of our stature. 🙂
      The best recommendation I can make is to go test ride one, and see how you like it for yourself before falling too far in love with it. If you've ridden sport bikes before, I'm confident you'll find it amazing and acceptable, but definitely recommend trying it out before committing to buy.

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому

      The front brake is the most important for sure, especially when riding fast, but I use the rear brake around town and when splitting lanes just for a little extra control. It would also get in the way of my foot when I was cornering with pace and hanging off the left of the bike, as I hook my outside heel onto the rearset’s heel guard with the heel of my boot against the peg. Front brake is definitely most important, though 🙂

    Good list, I had no idea about the service light, mine has not come on yet, I was expecting it to be like my 2012 Dorsoduro where I just reset it in the dash menu after entering the service code so that's going to suck...
    Mine would go like this:
    -Headlights are a disgrace to headlights everywhere especially for such an amazing motorcycle. Specifically the bulbs in them and the NA wiring harness for high/low beam. The bulbs should go directly into the garbage, I just recently HIKARI Ultra LED Headlight Bulbs Conversion Kit -H7,Prime LED 12000lm 6K Cool White and I am over the moon about them, great vision easy install a must upgrade if you ride at night or tour on the machine. Secondly the NA wiring harness does not turn ALL the lights on like the Euro harness does so this makes the high beam "tunnel vision mode" I have the pieces needed to make the modification to the wiring to get all 3 lights on with the high beam and a really good bulb coming that will fit and not mess up anything so I expect that to be a huge upgrade once I get that done.
    -Switch Gear for sure, have had a hard time setting cruise but sure I'll get used to it but I'm more pissed about the + / - buttons for the ATC, setting the levers where I want them hits the - button if pulling the clutch all the way in and if you're not careful with your hand placement or wearing bigger gloves you can hit the buttons by accident. Why the hell do you need to adjust your ATC on the fly anyways... I am going to look at taking these buttons off once I tear into the bike a bit to install my heated grips as the switch gear and dash can make all the adjustments you need to make before riding either on street or track so they're just redundant and take up space on the bars.

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому

      The headlights are a great point. I don’t usually ride at night, but I just did for the first time in a while and it was a bit discouraging, except in areas with the fancy new LED streetlights. 😅 I’ll have to look into those bulbs, especially if they’re plug and play. I’ve unplugged them enough times to go to the track the swap would be easy. Thanks for the details! Those bulbs are plug and play, right? Also, would love to set up the high beam so it keeps the lows on like you mentioned. I should look more into that. Thanks for sharing about that! 🙂
      I personally like the traction control buttons the most on the switchgear, as they feel the most solid. That said, you do have a valid point that they really serve no purpose unless you’re at the track, even in which case they still aren’t necessary. I’ve used them once right after having a big ol’ rear end slide on track, and could definitely see myself using them again as my Rosso IIIs get pretty greasy after a few flying laps. I’m confident 98% of Tuono owners, myself included, aren’t anywhere near as fast or skilled as you’d need to be to get value out of being able to set ATC corner by corner. That said, I appreciate the racy thought, and do like it, even as mostly a novelty. 🙂 If only they could have made the Cruise switch as solid feeling as those buttons!

    • @Maverick800XRS
      @Maverick800XRS 3 роки тому +1

      Yes, super easy install, you do tuck the wiring into the headlight housing and the control box towards the center of housing, don't think there's any issue with them maybe bouncing in there a little. The cap's fit on with no issues, no reports of overheating on the forums; I also cranked up the adjustment knob like 4 or 5 full turns to get them off the ground. Pro tip, take the bulb out of the bracket, put the bracket into the housing first then install bulb!
      www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?339306-2016-All-three-lights-on-Mod 3 headlight mod, I got the diode that is needed, just need to tear the bike down now. While you are doing this get the Aprilia accessories USB charging kit that plugs into the factory wiring hidden in the front fairings, also plug and play with some trimming to do for the plug on the dash plastic.

    Can anyone answer this: I hear what you had said about maturity and liter bikes- but I had to trade in a Fireblade because I was only using 3 gears- hardly any midrange. I think a powerful bike could be cool, but only if I could realistically use at least 5 gears during normal, sub 115 mph street riding. Does such a bike exist? I loved my Fireblade, but in order to enjoy the gearbox, you had to be going 100mph plus all the time. Thank you, for anyone who could answer this.

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Robert, happy to share my two cents! I suspect the reason you felt that way with your Fireblade was due in part to its tall gearing, being that it is basically a race-ready super bike. Supernakeds, like the Tuono, tend to have a bit more punch in the midrange, coming at a slight cost in top-end performance. For example, the 2017 Tuono V4 1100 in this video has about 6 extra ft-lbs of peak torque than a 2017 RSV4, and the torque curve is broader and flatter so it makes more power below 8k rpm than an RSV4, but gives up a bit above 8k rpm. The Tuono V4 1100 peaks at about 175 hp [still plenty of peak power in my opinion] and the RSV4 will eventually peak at 201 hp somewhere above 13k rpm. Additionally, supernakeds are generally geared a bit shorter, further enhancing that mid-range punch. I regularly ride my Tuono in 4th-6th gear around town and on the highway, and it pulls strong in any gear from about 5k rpm on. Of course, this comes at the cost of top speed, with Aprilia claiming the Tuono V4 1100 is limited by gearing to 165mph. Based on that 115mph upper limit you mentioned, I don't think that would be a problem. Hope that's helpful!

      Robert Queen , the simple answer is that any Liter-Sportbike is insanely fast, even going back 25 years. If you want to able to run through the gears, you'll want less than the 180 to 200 plus HP they make. Which means getting a CBR650, Ninja 650, or a naked bike. Once you have over 100 horses and a full fairing, you will have lots of speed.

      I don’t think it has as much to do with the state as it does with the dealership, and the fact that I didn’t buy my bike from them 😅 Very cool that your dealer hooked it up though!
