- The Laugo Alien is one of the weirdest production handguns to hit the market in recent memory. So what makes it so special? Let’s take a look up in those guys.

You should larp as Sam and dean from supernatural and review there weapons
Yeah it looks like a sweet gun. I'll try to get it. (I haven't watched the video yet)
That’s a cool pistol
You are legally required to say "I like to keep this handy for close encounters" when you draw it
Probably preferable to " you should see my OTHER probe !" .
"Too right mate"
Wrong. I have it on excellent authority that a knife works better for close encounters.
@@thesultanofswing8706 Try bringing a knife to a gun fight see how that works out for you in real life there Rambo.
close encounters of the third kind of course sorry couldn't resist
Probably the first 5k price tagged gun that has some level of innovation to justify the price tag
Right for once, the price tag isn't because they used exotic materials. This feels like you're paying for the innovation. I can appreciate that.
Innovation and low low production numbers
Sorry but no level of innovation justifies a high price
After the first initial sales, the invention has more than paid for itself, everything after is profit
Greed flation is a huge problem in today's societies
A product which cost $20 in materials and $20 in labor to manufacturer has no reason to cost $5000, sorry, it just doesn't
@ChaosBW I don't like over paying for things either but with something like this the R&D costs were probably astronomical
innovation, yes..But it ain't gonna become no industry standard
About that Czechoslovakia bit, the gun is made in Czechia, but the designer of the gun and founder of Laugo company is from Slovakia, hence the "retro" joined name. We kinda like to do that here, also with coproduced tv shows and such...
Wonder if that could get them in trouble with US customs.
@@goldenhate6649 That is a good question, but sadly, I have no idea about an answer.
Very interesting
@@goldenhate6649 Well, the officer in question first has to know the difference between the three states and the history and being a us official... thats not guaranteed lol

Picked up one of those bad boys myself early last year. Absolutely love it. I am sure you have already found out that they run very dirty due to the gas operating system. You will feel the trigger pull get more and more gritty as you shoot. Regular cleaning is a must to keep that beautiful crisp trigger break. The area above the trigger does get REALLY HOT after rapid fire. But just some quirks to get used to. So far, haven't had a single malfunction. It has eaten any ammo thrown at it, and absolutely loves being suppressed. And yes, my wallet is still crying.
I hope the manufacturer reads this and fixes these problems in their next iteration.
My 700$ CZ is better

You should be regularly cleaning and maintaining your weapons, anyway.

I’ve got one of these; it’s truly phenomenal. The only gripes I have about it are the optic being 6MOA (replaced with a Trijicon SRO) and it’s lack of left-hand operation. Yes, it’s not uncommon for handguns to not have any left hand operation, but the Alien actually requires a modified grip to shoot leftie. Your hand will actually interfere with the ejection port on the Alien; the first time I pick up the Alien after a spell of not using it I’ll often foul it up once before I remember to shift the grip. But yea fantastic gun, love shooting it, and most people I let test it seem to love it as well.

The Forgotten Weapons guy got a Alien a while back and dissected it.
He seemed just as fascinated as Mr. H.
Thanks for race running it and giving us a half hillbilly/gun nerd opinion. The upside down hammer on the "toprail?" And the back gas piston is weird as it is clever. I'd like to see how the piston looks/works after a long day of shooting cheap ammo.
Great video, cool gun that most of us will never see.
Cheers from Tucson.
I used to load frangible ammo in my "bedside pistol", specifically because I lived in rented apartment complexes with neighbors on the other side of the walls. In that circumstance, it was just a basic safety measure to observe to at least attempt to avoid harming my neighbors should I need to shoot inside my apartment. Once I moved to separate suburban houses over the years, I didn't worry that much about it and saved the expense for target ammo. And realistically, in a full 4BR house I'd generally use a shotty for "home defense" anyway...
why is home defense in quotations?? are you a murderer???

That design is super interesting. It's awesome to see people trying to really innovate and push things forward in areas where there's not that much going on in the grand scheme of things.
I got to shoot with the Laugo Team at a PCSL match in St. George, UT. They let me use a Alien on multiple stages. It shoots flat as if it had the best muzzle break in the world. What isnt said is that it has one hell of a recoil impulse without the muzzle flip. Like you feel it slap your hand back. Its truly a weird feeling. Hence...Alien.
I have a couple revolvers like that. 629 competitor that has weights under the barrel and a Chiappa. Very little muzzle flip, but after a long range day you have a good lesson in if the recoil energy isn't rotating the gun it is slamming it back. Does take some getting used to (and in the case of the 629 I put grips from an X frame on it to get rid of the exposed backstrap; actually hurt a tad and .44 usually doesn't bother me), but sure is fun.
its almost like you cant cheat physics ... if that energy doesnt go into muzzle rise then its all getting transfered into the arm inline with the barrel ... that energy has to go SOMEWHERE .
I love how it's muscle memory for him to show clear by showing the top on the gun, even though the top is covered up with this pistol.
I didn't even notice that, haha 😂

My first (and so far only) 9mm was Grand Power X-Calibur Match mk23 - I loved the trigger and how it rotated the barrel instead of tilting it. Yes, it was quite expensive (compared to e.g. the boring Glocks) but I love it. The I heard about this gun - and I though "OK, it will probably be as expensive, maybe a little more"... it is MUCH MORE expensive, but the operating mechanism is so neat. [sight] Maybe in few years :)

Noticed that the bore axis is really low.
I bet the recoil feels like a gentle push and the accuracy would reflect that as the barrel lines up with your index finger if you were doing "finger guns".
That Glock joke hit harder than it should've.....😢
I have ditched the G19 for the 43x as the primary carry option too. Have a T-Rex Sidecar for my 19, and a cheap little $40 holster for the 43x, but it is still sooooooo much more comfortable to appendix carry. Get those Shield Arms SA15 magazines though.

I like your edc choice. Personally I carry a 19x converted to 40.
I remember learning about that gas delay system in SDI. I remember learning that it also allows it to delay the bolt enough so it stays in battery until gas pressure lowers. Also, allowing the bolt to be lighter.
It's also self-regulating to a degree. If you feed it subsonics, the lower gas pressure means that there's less force resisting the bolt opening, which compensates for le lower force of the casing trying to force its way out. If you feed it some of Bubba's pissin-hot reloads, the higher gas pressure should (theoretically at least) help hold the bolt closed long enough to avoid a case rupture.
No need to worry about getting a bit of Claw on the Alien. Ian from Forgotten Weapons already did an actual torture test of this pistol with mud and everything.

Thank you for the vidja.
As to the potential accuracy of the weapon: Ian at Forgotten Weapons stated that the gun can shoot a LOT better than he can.
I can certainly understand that.
Bit rich for my blood but it surely is a sexy little thing.
That's not saying much as most decent handguns with match ammo are far more accurate than 99.99% of people can shoot with them. If you just look at the mechanical accuracy (ie when the gun is strapped to a bench, taking the human component out completely), we're usually talking about 2-3 inch groups at 25 yards.
As a Minnesotan, I'd like to say it's not that cold here today. It's 32F and it feels great.
