Improved Laugo Alien for the American Market: The Creator 500
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 жов 2023
- When the original Laugo Alien came out, it was designed with a grip angle rather steeper than a lot of people (including most Americans, it seems) preferred. In response, Laugo redesigned the grip to be more like a 1911, and made the whole grip assembly modular in the process. Original magazines are still compatible, but the handling of the new model is a lot nicer for those of us who aren't used to a Luger style grip.
At the same time, Laugo now has an American offshoot (Laugo Arms USA) instead of being imported by a third-party company. The new grip angle will be available in standard pistols at some point in the future, but for now it is available only as a limited 500-pistol release - the Creator 500 series.

Once I saw the price of these pistols they became a forgotten weapon to me😮😮😮😮
😅😅😅
At least it is innovative and interesting to check out, even if one can’t afford/doesn’t want to spend the money on one.
Yes they certainly became forgotten at launch. Ruger or Keltec will figure it out. Glock would be smart to design one as well at reasonable prices.
Nice one!
@@1014pthe last time glock designed something was when they made the glock
$7k is crazy! All the same, I'm sure it is a very high quality piece and I'm guessing Laugo has developed a solid base that would be interested at that price range. Still, it's wild to think what the high-end market has risen to.
They would probably charge $500 just to sniff their farts
No competitor exists and pantyhose shooters will pay anything to get competitive advantage
@@PunchesCouches Sounds like somebody doesn't understand manufacturing.
@@Tunkkis I do wonder if they will try to take the concept and produce a more economical version
perfect for the Dubai police
Laugo is short name from Laugaricio, Roman name for Slovak city Trenčín, from where Ján Lučanský, engineer who designed this pistol comes from.
That was a super interesting bit of European history. You are very well informed. Thanks.
That's why they use "Czechoslovakia" in the company name. Czech company with a Slovak designer is a nice reason for returning back to history.
FFS, why am I learning this from a forgotten weapons comment section. To be fair to me I don't know many people from Trenčín.
@@the_senate8050 To be precise - Laugaricio is not Roman name for Trenčín, it's name for some kind of important settlement in today's Trenčín area. There's no proof od continuity between these two (but it's supposed to be in term of human presence in this area) and the name Trenčín was definitely not used in parallel with Laugaricio.
But there's proof (literally written in stone) that Roman legions were there - and it's wery important artefact of Romans empire and it's expansion to the north.

And?
Glad you know this, but noone else cares.
I was thinking they might release a cheaper version. But I was wrong😂
They made a pistol for the American market. Not for your average American. 😂
For $7000 I feel like you could build your own prototype.
Need to wait for the patent to expire and Ruger or High-Point to make some shameless clones.
@@kepalie7662looking at the features there's nothing that seems to be under patent, unless I'm missing something, idk
@@wolfsworkshop9095 The upside down hammer seems really unique, i think it might be patented ?
@@delayedhoe9714kriss vector has a hammer that’s upside down
Ian - Most likely those rubber rings, time mark 12:35, are to keep pressure on the grip panels to keep them tight. Without screws to hold them in place, they are likely to wear and loosen over time, and then they would rattle. No one wants their $7,000 baby to rattle.
This thing is like a Rolex Skydweller...some vague tool origins, but it's definitely a luxury piece with amazing technical features. Built to withstand abuse it will never be subjected to.
I can't wait to see the brilliant design features in this gun break into the mainstream. I really do reckon the fixed top strap and low bore axis make it the obvious choice for the next generation of pistols
the bore axis is not (much? Practically?) lower than on a Caracal, for example. Or the now dead Archon.
I'm sure they have several patents on the system, so we won't see any other guns with these features for a long time unless Laugo makes them itself.
@@Bacteriophagebs Sure, but patents last 20 years or so. After that, it'll be anyone's game.
@sauliluolajan-mikkola620 No one told Laugo or the patent office that, apparently.
"Laugo Arms Alien is revolutionary semiautomatic pistol with several patented and unique technical solutions."
--Laugo Alien website
A U.S. utility patent, explained above, is generally granted for 20 years from the date the patent application is filed; however, periodic fees are required to maintain the enforceability of the patent.
$7000!?!? I don't think I could even afford the tax on that. . .
Same buddy
Like guitars, I've never seen a reason to spend multiple thousands. But I do like the thing! Even if it's price like a used car.
@@mastathrash5609 And here I remember when you could get a functioning used car for $700, I cannot fathom spending $7,000 on one.
@Mightylcanis times have gotten tough. Imagine spending $7,000 on something and it winds up having problems. 🤦♂️ at least I feel the alien seems like a quality product. I could have gotten the $ 500 hoop d and made out better
Well, considering the cheapest running & driving, used car now costs $4000 where I live. ...And cell phones cost up to like $3000 (let alone desktop computers and laptops).
$7000 or even $10,000 is in the ballpark of so called premium pricing. Though it is about the same as the cheapest new motorcycle.
This is one of those innovations that is super cool but unattainable for the average person...very similar to things like the FK BRNO. It took a while, but FK got the PSD to market, which gave the market 90% of the BRNO's capabilities at a 75% cost reduction.
I'm hoping Laugo Arms will do something similar and give the masses this really cool ultra-low bore axis design at a more attainable price point.
The PSD has none of the same appeal as the BRNO. It has a much more elegant design while the PSD looks more Kel-Tec with the plastic and the screws in the slide.
@@aaronfarnsworth7653 anything "attainable" for the common person by Laugo is going to have similar compromises made. Less metal, more plastic, less hand-fitting, etc. That's just where most of the labor and material costs can be saved to bring a more affordable model to market.
Also, you're entitled to your opinion, but other than both having a polymer frame, there's virtually zero resemblance between the PSD and anything KT have ever put out. A chubby SP-01 Phantom though? Yes, dead ringer. :D
The reverse flag on right side of the slide is a neat detail, like on military uniforms
Not reverse! The PROPER orientation, which is the star field at the leading edge.
@@transtubular Well, you know what I meant, it's a shorthand. I'm not american, so for most of us when we imagine the flag it has the blue field with stars in left upper corner.
Interesting. I thought it was backwards and therefor wrong but I also knew that a detail like that would not be overlooked so it must be correct either way.
The reason the flag is orientated that way on uniforms is to show that American soldiers always have the wind blowing on front of them because they are running into the battle.
What an awesome pistol. It's just expensive enough that although I'm able to buy it, it would be a very stupid idea. Somebody will be very lucky to get it.
I've got the money, but the price is way, way above my pain threshold. Maybe if I were making so much that $7k was a month's mad money.
I was able to borrow it at the range. I would never have bought it for the price, but I have to say it shoots pretty darn good. The only problem is cocking the gun with the scope on. It's hard to grip and takes too much force, if your hands are sweaty you have to do it with both like an idiot.
What I wonder is whether Laugo will start to make a left-hander version of the Alien. As Ian has shown in the original FW piece on it (the shooting part), due to the low bore axis, the ejection port is so low that left-handed shooters may have a problem not to obstruct it with their supporting hand thumb...
I know it's a big job to mirror the whole design... But Ian would deserve his personal left-handed Alien. ;-)
I don't blame Laugo for pricing them high....if they can sell them for that...more power to them just not for me. It would be nice to make such a pistol where production pressures aren't present and you can make them as good as you can, but long term this market will saturate quickly and to stay in the game they're going to have to make a less expensive variant.
Rock island or someone is gonna make one for 1/4 the price, watch lol
Yeah the actual barrel, gas piston and slide dont look more complex than a Glock. That milled frame and grip assembly is likely the bulk of the cost. I would love to see one half the cost with a polymer frame.
Most likely it's a matter of scale.
When they make batches of 500 they have one cost consideration, but when they are making 5000 + the volume spreads the costs for a lower unit price.
@@tombogan03884 it is because they are startup - they start from nothing and it is expensive to make great product...
Yeah, as someone said, it's a matter of scale. Once production volume creeps up and tooling bought and paid for, prices will come down. It's not simply a "hey, let's charge 5000 dollars per gun and we'll be rich!" Everyone knows you can make way more money selling a lot of something for cheaper.
Soon I'll be able to make grips for this gun as well👌🏻🔥
5:48 Despite his company being based in Czechia, the designer is from Slovakia, that's probably why the engraving says Czechoslovakia. The relations between the two countries are excellent even after the split.
Many people would say the relations are excellent BECAUSE of the split.
I was thinking the same thing re: Company name
I hadn't noticed on the original Alien video, but with that low-mounted barrel this thing really reminds me of the Clone Trooper's pistols in the Star Wars prequels. And enough of that is present in things like the slide serrations that I think there's a good change that someone at Laugo also noticed the resemblance and decided to lean into it.
They put a variant of the Alien in Battlefield yesterday which is crazy to me
That's awesome, I've been hoping to see it pop up in more FPS games
Really? I might even play it then
2042?
That grip disassembly is slick! The fit and finish is phenomenal. Especially with those interchangeable handle scales and backstrap. Slips together so nice.
Looking forward to seeing you win a competition with this piece Ian! Thanks Again!
Fascinating. Sort of took the design of my 80’s P7 (PSP) and flipped it to put the gas piston on top. I wonder how long before we see this design in affordable guns.
Most innovative pistol design to come out in years. Ian have you seen the photos from Ukraine with Zelenskyy's bodyguard rocking a Laugo Alien?
I wouldn't doubt that. Likely have golden toilets by now
@@YedolfWeslerA lot of Saddam’s old excesses made it to the secondary market. 😉
That was nice of us to pay for them....
Imagine how much we could have paid for with all that money we've sent.
@@AdamantLightLP What is the old near to it expiry date javelin to cash conversion?
Can’t say I expected Laugo to have their US branch in Dayton, Nevada (population: 14,250, just 15 minutes outside Carson City), of all places. Lived there after I graduated high school in 2005 for like, two years.
I still would love to see a cheaper version of this design. From what I remember from the original FW video, it didn't seem very complicated mechanically, and it didn't look like it required super tight tolerances that would require special machines, so it should be possible to make a sub 1k$ version without too many problems, of course not as high quality as this competition shooting version. Would also love to know if a 10mm version would be possible, or if the pressures are too high for this system to handle
the three circular things inside the grip panels are so that the force of someone pressing on the grip is more distributed and doesn't result in fracturation of the very thin grip panels.
It's an awesome handgun; I just hope they come down in price someday.
Great to see this gun come back.
Haven’t watched a video in a while but I loved the Alien when I saw it first. Great breakdown of an amazing pistol ❤
Nice blaster. I may pick up a couple, but only if they can make a few. Need one to match my Lambo collection, one that matches my wife's favorite Coach bag and a couple that compliment my kitchen counter tops
Gorgeous Wick's style gun
I'm bewildered and confused by the lack of threads to mount suppressors or compensators. Hopefully there'll be replacement barrels that make that possible, when the barrel is so low you really ought to take advantage of it- Mount a suppressor and you can still use the irons like normal!
Keep in mind that this is a gas-operated pistol, though. A suppressor might affect how it runs.
@@fulgrimventris8506 Fair point, though i'm sure theres ways around it- Timing and the size of the gas port, etc. Or simply a suppressor design that feeds the gas back into he gun.
@@fulgrimventris8506 i just found a couple of suppressor kits for the original Alien with a google search, actually. Seems like its fine, it just needs a different barrel with presumably a different gas port.
There is a threaded version for the original Alien. I have one. Didn't test it with a can yes though
Well that's one heck of a prize. Good luck to everyone who enters.
This gun needs a 5.7 threaded barrel version. Imagine this design +5.7 low recoil + muzzle break.

5.7 is a significantly longer cartridge with much different gas pressures. The entire gun would have problems trying to do that. Especially the grip
Excellent work Mr. Ian.. 👍
It's geared towards competition shooters with big, corporate pockets & those with more money than they know what to do with. No doubt they'll sell 5000 of them a year.
For us poors, Smith & Wesson likes to copy other people's designs (poorly). But I'll wait for Taurus to start production of the budget model.
it would probably be Kel-Tec first. but i can see Taurus or S&W doing some knock off as well.
hell it might even be Palmetto.
I started competing in uspsa this year (8 shoots so far) and I can't wait to win this gun!
Looks very cool. It looks futuristic. Very clever design for compitition shooting!
And maybe for EDC since it’s very comfortable for shooting.

What a legend Ian is. Great taste in the finer firearms.
I love this. Modern technology is so fascinating. Space age design.
Ever since i first saw a video with the Laugo Alien i've been mesmerized by it, it's very different but *_good_* different. I'm surprised that these pistols aren't even more popular than they already are
great explanation of the gas system. thanks!
Excellent presentation!
I really hope someday there’s a carry pistol like this. I think a carry optimized Alien could make for an awesome carry pistol, especially regarding shot placement.
Why? Why would you carry a gun like this? This is optimized for competition shooting none of it's features are particularly useful for self defense.
You are shooting center mass at close range in a self defense situation not double taping targets at 15+ yards for time. Honestly the design is very, very cool but it has a lot of drawbacks for self defense carry. It's got a single action trigger and no safety except for that trigger fin. I know the Glock doesn't have one either but that gun is striker fired. This isn't. It's really not a good idea to carry a design like this with a round chambered. And if you don't carry with a round chambered you are at a severe disadvantage to state the obvious.
Thank you.
Constantly impressed with the intelligent yet simplistic design of this pistol, it is THE definitive scoped pistol - no competition. Truly a beautiful piece of engineering, bravo to Laugo 👏.
Wish i had some extra cash what a great form and function on this piece. Thanks Ian for a great look at this one once again.
Is this channel "unanticipated weapons " now?!
Love it.
Wow, that's nuts!
Nice pistol.. this isn’t the first time laugo produces alien pistol for specific countries, there is a version of the alien with gold grips and contols called ( al-auja ) in arabic ( العوجا ) with a slide inscription of an arabian sword.. it was made by laugo specifically for Saudi Arabia’s new Firearms market,
The Urnes style grips are definitely a need.
this is a common misconception. Where the barrel is relative to the hand doesn't matter for muzzle climb.
The force that brings the muzzle up is produced by the slide hitting its end of travel against the stop. So it is the geometry of the slide and the stop relative to grip that matter, not the barrel.
Even before the barrel stops, the force being transferred into the hand is applied through the recoil spring and its rest against the frame.
On revolvers, such as the Rhino, things are different.
Looks cool, but for $7000, it should come with a Czech mail-order bride.
Your Czech is in the mail
Sweet Czechnology
So you're into cheap women? 😅😅😅
I'd love to see these pistols mass produced, and drive the price down. I could envision a 1000-1500$ version that's a lot more accessible to more shooters. At the very least, I'd love to see more companies take this concept and implement it in new pistol designs.
True sofistication is as simple as possible! Now to get cost to a sane level!!
Great video and very informative.
Well done!
Impeccable timing, as a version of this pistol was added to the current season of Battlefield 2042!
I always wonder with new pistol tech what lessons could be learned for future police or military sidearms
I'd love to see them introduce something in the $2,000 range. I'd definitely buy a slightly watered down Alien over a similarly priced 2011
It's quite a handsome bit of kit really.
not sure what it costs but looking at the high quality machining , attention to detail, intelligent design id say its a worthy product of a heavy price tag , its not just a bolt rifle with polished surfaces. anodizing and exotic material , a more compact version would probably be unpopular but it would be a pretty nice carry piece for the gentleman with taste
...$7000... Yea...
Hell yeah these are awesome
Thank you , Ian .
🐺 Loupis Canis .
I wonder if they’ll ever get production to a point where they can release a “bargain” version for like $2500. Then I could at least dream about it. Lol
I look forward to the patents expiration date and PSA can make one for regular people.
I want to see a magnifying optic on it honestly. Not too powerful, but just a little bit of magnification. I think that would be sick as hell
When Ian mentioned different coulour I immedietly thought of the rgb lights on pcs only on a gun
Still have to see one used in competitions
the American flag in place of the E for the American edition is absolutely chef’s kiss
This isn't a forgotten weapon this is THE weapon.
Maybe when they drop a $1,200 version I'll think about it.
Very interesting.
I hope more videogames start featuring the Laugo Alien
same
Hope they put out a threaded barrel eventually. Putting a comp on it would really take it into Space Gun territory-and could probably make it essentially recoil-less
Threaded barrels were an option on the original alien.. a couple aftermarket muzzle devices available too.
What a perfect handgun.
I'm really liking this gun, and the only way I'll ever be able to get one is through a contest. So, I'm in.
Beautiful looking gun that one :)
Man that looks as good as a CZ P10C!
My man says the grip angle was the number one complaint, but I'm pretty sure that price tag has more people giving this the side eye. Hopefully they get around to developing and selling a more budget friendly version, like FK BRNO eventually did with their PSD pistol.
The best part is the Czechoslovakia reference
I had no idea about the gas system for Alien! I want this thing even more! Please give it to me Ian!
Laugo: Revolutionary innovative technology for the lowest bore axis on the market.
Borchardt C93: Hold my rear-mounted recoil spring.
I love the Alien as a concept (really that gas delay system is so clever) and it is such a good looking pistol, however i am not trying to shell that kind of money out for a pistol when i can get a perfectly reasonable one for well under $1000. Really hope the technology of this pistol proliferates and something similar at a more affordable price range becomes a thing.
Looks awesome. I love the design. Never going to be able to afford it, ha.
I'm interested to see if there are any copycats that pop up.
I'd also like to see one in 5.7mm. I feel like a cartridge designed for a flat trajectory like that would make best use of the specific features of the design.
Geeze I gotta have one of these! Oh wait I guess I gotta sell my truck. But first I want to get that class III machine gun first.
Nice gun
I traded an m1 and Ruger mini 14 for one a few months ago. It's such a great performing sidearm
You ripped someone off.
For 7000 I would assume they would at least ask you, if you need the left or the right holster.
Excellent review, the limited red dot selection is the Achilles heel, otherwise it’s a go
I'd love one of these, just wish I didn't have a generic beer budget
I have the target Version with the 6inch Barrel. Very nice gun but the Slide Stop needs replacement evry 1000 shots or so
Beautiful pistol and I'd love to have one. For that price though I'll buy a thermal instead 😅
Another Great Video 💯Thank you Ian 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥

This gun would be a dream to have 💯:)
Hi Ian.
Do you think they can take the alien design, and convert it into a carry/compact version?
Or is this design better suited for competition?
Great video 👍
I wish somebody physics+engineering inclined would make a comprehensive video about what defines axis of recoil impulse.
Theres the bore axis, mass of moving parts and spring placement. People are drooling over low bore axis, but this design shows vividly how much ammo capacity it takes away. It seems that spring placement and low center of mass of moving parts could be the better solution.
If the spring is placed very low, its strong and absorbes almost all of the slide energy, maybe the barrel energy too, like in USP, it seems that it places the recoil axis close to the axis of the spring.
Would love to see a video covering if this is true, how much energy does the moving barrel has, what are components of recoil and their proportions, and so on.
If the strong spring decreases the margin of error for dirt resistance and such, maybe two springs could fix this. Normal spring for regular functioning of the gun, and a strong buffer spring to ensure that no energy is transfered to the frame through a sharp hit, high up above the spring.
Reminds me of my Ruger American
I like the flags on it
A laugo alien style action on a pcc would be pretty cool
