I love plant chore videos, they’re very satisfying and motivating. I could easily watch one weekly or bi weekly. I hope you start to feel better. So many people I know are struggling. Sending love 💕✨
Sorry to hear that you had a rough week, wishing you well Usually enjoy plant care vids 😊 To answer your question: Most of my non-Hoya plants are in a soil/bark/perlite (that kind of stuff) mix. I try to mix them up in a way that they all need water at about the same time weekly, so some have a bit more soil and some have a bit more bark/perlite/etc. (or some have a slightly larger pot and some a very small one) Then theres the Hoyas… most of those are in pure tree fern. Slow drinkers have bark and perlite in the tree fern. Heavy drinkers and windowsill Hoyas get a larger pot, a self watering pot or a soil mix. There are also a few plants in pon, Pipers, Aglaonema and a Chameodorea Metallica. I feel out of touch with those… I don’t see their roots in the self watering pots (only in the reservoir sometimes) and its hard to keep track of how much they drink. Good catch on that moss pole! It makes total sense to me that people quit this hobby. Often we call it “collecting”, but houseplants aren’t like collectibles… they need a lot more care. A lot of plants are financially accessible (Im not talking about the new hyped triple digit or higher ones), buying one every now and then fills up the house quickly… and it looks pretty… But then comes the care, the watering, the repottings, the poles/stakes… (and oftentimes even pests) it quickly becomes overwhelming. For the ones for who it becomes too much, their plants start declining, their prized “collection” suddenly looks bad and still needs a lot of work… Then there is also propagating…. Something breaks off of a plant and it is “still alive” so we have to take care of it. This increases the workload that was already high. Then if the propping succeeds…. It leads to more plantcare (repotting etc) and/or rehoming it… selling/swapping etc also takes up a lot of time and energy… In between this all is also the massive pricetag of buying coverpots, poles/stakes, soil mix ingredients, electricity bills etcetc that in total usually adds up to more than the initial purchase of the plant. Some people get depressed due to the prices of some unrealistic wishlist plants… since everything that is produced everywhere gets posted on the internet before it is really accessible… and it can take many years before such plants can be available at reasonable prices, if at all, many people get upset while chasing down their elusive unicorns Theres probably many more reasons 😂 Many many pitfalls and all of us fall into one or several of them at some point. And for some it is just too much to get up from, I totally get that. Personally I feel plants are so rewarding and worth all the work… but it has to stay manageable (which is a vague thing and different for each person) I feel like this should generally be discussed more… to help people… Not only how to deal with plantburnout/plantdepression/plantoverwhelm but also how to stay realistic/how to prevent falling into these traps. Not sure how to end this “email comment” Hope its not too long or too (anything else)😅 Hoping you’ll feel better Ill resume watching the video 😉 * you reminded me to get pings 🌱🌱🌱 You even did the chores you dreaded while not feeling well, Im happy for you that you got it done!
Loved reading your insights, thank you so much for sharing. I totally agree and can relate to falling into the trap of buying/wanting way too many houseplants than I can realistically provide good care to 😅 Really trying to work on that. It's not rewarding anymore when all your plants are struggling 😩
@ aww 🥹. I keep falling into them as well, been working on purging about 40 plants without regrets for over half a year… I started to feel comfortable with what was left and then bought a few new Hoya cuttings... Oh well 😅 (And the forever propagating for people who I don’t know who they are yet and then trying to find homes for the props 😂) I always see many very nice looking plants when I watch your vids 🪴🪴🪴
Sometimes you don’t feel cheerful and joyful but you are like the rest of us that get tired of our house chores. I just watered a bunch yesterday that had been three days over due. After my mini drought and ruined the looks of some of my plants cause of the loss of leaves.
I hope you are feeling better ❤ this season is tough on a lot of people. Remember to take care of yourself. Also…. I love semi hydro, all of my plants are in leca, pon, or a mixture of the two with perlite.
Plant chore videos are my fav! It’s interesting and informative and gives me good plant tips. It’s also motivating. I love putting it on it the back while I do my own planty chores 🌵🌱
Plant chore videos are my FAVE videos 💚🫶🏼 also I just use a store bought miracle grow soil and I add extra perlite into it and that’s it 😅 simple yet effective! My plants love it and I am lazy/broke so it all works out 😂
Love the plant chores. Finally getting back into some reports after neglecting reports for months. And this is helping me keep going! Also I grow on pon and soil. Pon definitely makes those thirsty plants manageable
My soil mix consists of chunky perlite, horticultural charcoal, worm castings, orchid bark and fox farm. 💚 still nervous about switching to pon as im an over waterer so i dnt want root rot. (My mix dries out so quickly and i like using terracotta which makes it dry out even quicker lol).
I am here once again to thank you for feeding us 😊 I hope your week has gotten better! I love it when you upload plant chores videos when I also need to do plant chores. Just feels like I'm doing plant chores with a buddy 🥲
I always look forward to your videos on both channels! even if at times you get that low energy, or seasonal mood shift- you are allowed to be human! your genuine kindness is what always radiates through above all else and I am here for it! I hope you are feeling more uplifted, but even if not, that’s ok too- be with your feelings. sending love!
The middle of the night for you is my best cozy morning routine 😅 even if sometimes like isn’t so easy, we try our best and that’s what’s more important ! Love ❤you
I agree with you after you spilled the water. I did the same thing yesterday but it was dirt and water. I wondered why do you do this. But in the long run, enjoy it. Loved this video and laughing and identifying with you!
Your plant chore videos and overall chatty videos are my favorite! Can really zone out and enjoy, or it can motivate me to do my own chores, like the dishwasher I’m unloading while watching ❤️
Holy moly! I’ve had a persistent dizziness for a week as well! Been having so much trouble doing things that need to be done because of it. I’m so sorry you’re feeling like this, I get it
Plant chores are my favorite hands down and they’re my favorite to record except I do it so often I don’t want to film it most of the time. If I could record in my PJ’s, perfect! 😂
Thanks for pushing through & doing a late upload! Hope you continue to be on the mend. If dizziness hangs around much longer, I'd get checked out. And yes, love plant chore vids!
i love plant chores i love seeing how you organize things and get ready i'm laughing at the bins part XD i'm learning in my first year of being a planty parent i dont have enough storage bins to mix soil or enough pots XD love the cozy vibes as always keep smiling!
Now that I've watched the entire thing, I'm so happy that you uploaded anyway. I think I love the plants shore videos because they are realistic. I feel seen and part of the community in a way. Also love the updates and gushing over plants videos, to remember why we do the shores even when it 's haaard.
Just got out of the ER after my first back to back tonic clonic seizures, your videos always help me feel better so this is some insane timing. I'm sorry you're struggling this week though and wish you a good rest of the year
@wildfern Thank you and I'm better now! Had to go back to the ER the next day because I started having bad seizures again (they put me on a lower dosage) but I'm upped now and finally feeling normal again ^^ Your videos are always a great part of my day, it's amazing you can do a job about something you love like this
You go girl!! Just cracking on….even while you’re not feeling well you just keep up the hard work 💪🏻💪🏻 do know that we totally understand and appreciate it even more that you still try to deliver. Be kind to yourself though 🤗
Plant chores are great! I'm so glad I rinsed a bunch of pon before it got cold. I have some baby alocasias that need potting up. But my house is full of Christmas boxes. I have to get myself going on that. I hope you feel better soon! There was a weird dizzy thing going around. ✨🙏☀️🎁🌕
I have been growing most of my 100+ plants ( I refuse to count them) in pon for over 4 years. I’m have about 10 plants in soil. Most of my pon plants are in self-watering pots but not all of them. I enjoy your plant chore videos. Thank you for keeping it real. We all have days when plant care proves to be more challenging than we expect.
Grow in pon mostly-but not straight pon. I mix it either 50/50 w tree fern fiber or half pon a quarter orchiata and a quarter huge perlite. It’s too heavy by itself
I learned from you how to mix my own soil. I am an over waterer so I can make well draining soil to compensate! I also can adjust for a variety of plants. 🌵🌿🎍
I use mostly DIY mixes, with multiple individual ingredients from optimize organics (pumice, leca, perlite, etc), usually mixed with orchiata (two different sizes), zeolite, and a small amount of promix soil! I don't do the same exact mix or ratios every time, but some variation on a really chunky mix
I've been growing most of my plants in Molly's Aroid mix! Which do you prefer, molly's or pon? I've been thinking about switching some of my alocasias to pon, but they seem to be doing well in molly's.
I was surprised to see when I woke this morning at 4:30 🕟 a new fern video. And you’d been out around 6 hours at that time, way past your bedtime. I went back to bed.
Hun I am so sorry you are unwell. I added you to my prayer list! May you be completely well very soon to enjoy Christmas! I enjoy your videos and just want the best for you!!!💚💚🎄💚💚
I have a micans that's like 7ft long and it tipped over while i was hosing it down in my bath tub 😅 i had to wait until the soil was dry to clean it up so i wouldn't clog up the drain. So happy i only have a few plants vs the 200 i had a yr ago
Thank you for another lovely video. It inspiring that despite not feeling great, you did the plant chores and delivered a video. It’s also wonderful to see that we are all human and do t always have great days. On different note, I noticed some camera noise in some recent videos. I think you recently got a new camera, correct? Seems I hear every camera movement or bump recently. I hadn’t noticed that before. Just thought I would mention it in case it’s a new camera issue.
My mixture is typically: tree fern fiber, perlite, horticultural charcoal and coco chips. Sometimes I’ll throw a tiny amount of soil in there (if I’m low on tree fern).
Hi Fern! Fellow Canadian from Winterpeg! 🥶 This is a challenging time of year for us and our plants with the cold and lack of sunshine. The gloomy days get to me too and it’s difficult to get motivated. Also seeing our plants struggle through this time of year is discouraging too. I’ve not been enjoying the gnats flying around my house🤨 Anyways don’t feel bad we can all relate. Soon the days will get longer and spring will be on the horizon. Love you and your vids. Even though you may not always feel it you are a ray of sunshine!
Hey girl i have a question i jave an anthrum bakeri and she is giving me her first inflo and i want to het some babies from her bit the only problem is i only jave a anthrum silver blush x forgetti pollen so im wondering id i can cross them bc i know the bakeri can self pollen nate its self hope it works ❤ hope you feel better soon 🙏❤❤❤ 😊
ohhh interesting question! honestly i'm not sure what it can be crossed with, but i say go for it and please update with the results. love a planty experiment!
don't mind me uploading in the middle of the night lol it's been a rough week 🫠
What a nice suprise to help with the insomnia.🙂

Your glasses look so good! Love them!
Thank you! 💖
Hi Fern! I recently became a begonia girly because of your amazing begonia collection!
I love the black top, black glasses and hair down look! Such beautiful Zooey Deschanel vibes! ❤
I grow my plants in coco coir, charcoal, perlite and worm poopies. My version of pon is fluval with perlite
I've been growing most of my plants in Molly's Aroid mix! Which do you prefer, molly's or pon? I've been thinking about switching some of my alocasias to pon, but they seem to be doing well in molly's.
