  • In this episode I go over in detail what is considered by many anglers to be the easiest, quickest and strongest knot to tie your braid main line to your leader, the Yucatan Knot. Developed by sport fishermen years ago to connect a smaller pound test main line to a heavier pound test , or thicker diameter leader line, this knot eventually became the "Go To" knot for connecting braid main line to leader because of its simplicity and strength factors. If you're looking for a solid knot to connect 2 fishing lines together, have questions about braid and leader, or you just can't seem to figure out how to tie a leader on properly without a swivel... Then this episode's for you.
    Enjoy,
    Tight lines & good vibes.

    Due to a head injury it's hard for me to learn new things. I've viewed several other videos on how to tie this knot. Yours is the clearest and the easiest to understand. Thank you!

      It can and will improve potentially stay positive, look into the red light or cap frequency devices I know they’re expensive but using them first thing in the am

    I use thos knot on my ultralight set up and it is great. Sometimes it takes me a couple attempts to get it to sit right as it slips but when I get it right it's perfect

    Hi Heath, The Yucatan looks just as easy as the Alberto knot. I've been using the Alberto, but I will try the Yucatan. I went fishing last Thursday, in the Indian River Lagoon and caught five Black Drum. They ranged 11 to 16 inches. Not big but it was fun to catch a few fish in the afternoon. Say "Hi" to the Crew. Take care and have fun, Mickey

      Hi Mickey glad you were finally able to get out and wet a line. Honestly the Yucatan knot is more of a trolling/ big game fishing knot, it's kinda chunky whereas the Alberto knot is more streamline and conducive for casting. Excited to hear about your fishing adventures. Hope all is well. Everyone here says "Hi"... take care

      Hi Heath, I cast a lot from shore. I guess the Alberto knot might be better. Thanks for the info. Take care and good luck, Mickey

      GT knot is the only heavy braid to mono connection that retains 100% strength. The Alberto tested at a measly 42% strength. As tested by the IGFA. Look it up!

    The Yucatan,,, that's my knot baby. No need for the FG. Battle-tested,, on the Gulf side of Florida and the Atlantic.

      The FG takes to long and will fail if not done right. This one is strong and easy to do fast if you get broken off.

    Hey Heath, thanks again for making me a better fisherman. I wonder if as a follow up you would consider a breaking strength test of the Yucatan, PR, FG knots, etc.?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  Рік тому +2

      Thanks a million... So, knots rarely break, it's the line around them that gives, knots do fail however if tied improperly. Thanks for the premise of an idea though, I'll put it on my list, will make for interesting conversation.

    I mean technically the FG knot is the strongest connection knot according to multiple tests that have been done by many different people but it's also the most difficult to learn to tie. My personal favorite connection knots are the Yucatan knot if I'm out in the field or the Alberto knot if I'm at home pre-tying up my rigs because the Alberto knot is more difficult to tie in the field.

    I tied this knot and it worked perfectly the first time. I don’t know what I did that time, but every single time I’ve tied it since then the leader just slips out of the knot. Back to Mr. Alberto for me.

    Hi Heath, as a shock leader while surface casting, what is your preference for mono leader length and does this knot cast through the rod eyelets smoothly?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  Рік тому

      Hi Rick, I would not use this knot for casting... I'd use either an Alberto knot... or a combination of a spider hitch loop tied to a no name knot... I your main line is braid you'll need at least 20+ feet of leader for shock and presentation

    Is Yucatán better than Spider Hitch w/ no name knot?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  Рік тому

      Great question... it all depends... they are both solid ways of connecting main line to leader.
      Yucatan is more chunky, made for big game Rods with rollers... spider hitch to no-name is more streamline, flows through the guides of a spinner more smoothly.
      Personally, I use spider hitch to no-name more often

    What is the difference between Yucatan knot and SC knot?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  11 місяців тому

      they are tied te same way. Only difference I can see, is the difference in number of wraps... yucatan being 6, sc being 12... but with the sc you are pulling the tag end straight, with the yucatan the tag holds a loop. To me, they look like the same knot, just with a different name.

    Hey Heath. That knot is a lot simpler than some other knots I’ve seen to tie the two line types. But is it the strongest? If not, what to you think the strongest knot for that purpose is?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  Рік тому

      I was asked about the Yucatan knot. And I wanted to show how simple it is, which you pointed out. And yes, for it's simplicity, it is the strongest knot of it's type. There are other alternatives, like the alberto knot, but they're a little more involved.
