I'm 57 years old and it seems like I've watched Mr. Martin on TV all my life. My biological father is 90 years old and has never really been a dad as he ran out on our family when I was just 6 years old. I watch Mr. Martin and wonder what it would've been like to have him as a dad. Could you imagine the camping trips and fishing while growing up with Mr. Martin as a dad? Such a likable presence. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I've always been a fan.
I'm an old guy too. First met Roland at a fishing tackle show when I was a sporting goods buyer for a discount store chain in the late 70's. He knew all the new tricks and love to teach. Still enjoy his teaching.
He seems like one of the coolest guys on the planet. Somebody that I'd love to go fishing with, or just sit and listen to what he has to teach. I bet he's got some great stories to tell.

Finally one guy who knows about the quality of the uni-knot! Tying this knot to everything! Only exception: FG for braid to fluo-leader and then uni again from fluo to steel-leader.
I'm 64 and have been fishing almost 60 years and appreciate all of your fishing tips. Couldn't find your wealth of knowledge just anywhere. Glad you take the time to share.
Im 52 and watched you as a kid fish on t.v. I follow your son Scott and your granddaughter Hilary and now I just subscribed to your channel Mr.Martin! Exactly lol then after the three stooges and Kung fu theater at noon..Sundays were the best..I remember getting my first B.A.S.S patch in the mail from watching these shows as a very young child. Fell in love with bass fishing and have been active ever since. Bill Dance and Roland Martin were my guys.
Roland we were at the Rio Negro lodge in brazil. you are very nice person. And treated everyone with respect. How’s the wife and manager? The owners father called me the piranha king. Because I caught over 100. You showed me how to make monkey paw knot. And a couple other things. If I had your number I’d like talking with you,to see if you have any knowledge of the people there.
Thanks, Roland! I'm 56 and I've been watching and learning from you since I was a kid. NO ONE has taught me more about fishing than you. I really appreciate how much value you give to those who watch you.
Put me down as well. I'll be 50 and always remember watching Roland, Orlando Wilson, Bill Dance, the Linders, Babe Winkleman, and can't forget about Hank Parker. Learned a ton of tips and tricks I tell you.
Roland, you are a fishing GOD. Been watching you since I was 12 years old on the Saturday morning fishing show. Now at 44 years old, I'm still watching you, now on UA-cam!
Roland, I'm an old guy too! (62), just started seriously fishing in the last couple of years in semi-retirement. Your videos have been so awesome in getting me up to speed, thanks! If you want to learn how to ski, come up here to NE, I'll teach you ;)
Mr.martin..ive been watching you for a long time.i use to get my son to watch you on .t.v way back in the 1990s.. he just loved it and he got happy fishing because of your show.....thank you sir....my son has sense passed away but when I go fishing I fish for him..he loved fishing mostly because you taught him....you done the job that I couldn't...thank you Mr Martin.
I'm an old guy too Roland and have watched you for years. You are an old school fisherman, you remind me of my Father, he would tell me," I am going to show you how to do this" If you find a better faster way, please show me. " Until you do that do it the way I just showed you". I tried many times to do it faster or better. Every time I would end up doing it the way he had shown me. The end of this video reminded me of that lesson I had learned years ago. Thank you, Roland, maybe the younger guys will listen and learn from your knowledge. OG
You represent some of the best years of my life. Sunday late mornings in the 80s. I'm super stoked I found your UA-cam channel. Lots of sore lips cuz of you 😉, Thank you Sir.
Roland, from one older man to another, I have followed you since the 1970's and you are the man Brother. I watch all your videos and you are a GREAT teacher. Be safe my brother and God Bless You!!!
Roland Never knew you were an Army veteran. Navy guy here. Thanks, for sharing. I have been watching you on Bassmasters since we came back from Iran in 1980. Fished as a kid with my dad, but stopped in my teens through my enlistment. Bassmasters got me back to fishing, and I've been ever since. My favorite picture is my daughter headed into her dorm freshman year with a fishing pole in each hand. Thanks for all the years!
When a man masters his profession, he recognizes that he will never quit learning and utilizing his experiences in new problem solving and if he can control his ego, he can relish in sharing his knowledge. Thanks Roland The old professor

Great Video Roland, I'm teaching my 7 year old Great Nephew to be a Sportsman, Fisherman, trying to keep it Simple, Terminal Knots for All line size, I came up with Palomar, Double Uni, and variation of Uni, and Perfection loop, crankbaits, I didn't know that Uni loop, I Like it, Thanks,. Big Fan
I remember watching you, and Orlando Wilson with my dad growing up in the 80's. I still can pretty much recite the theme songs to both of those shows. My father was an avid fisherman, and pretty much gave me the bug and I am passing it along to my 9 year old son. Seeing these videos is almost like seeing an old friend again that you haven't seen in a long time. I really enjoy your insight, expertise, and your overall passion for fishing. I have to say we need more good ol' boys like you these days. Take care and I will see you around ol' friend. :)
I like teaching people about what I love to do too. I have a lot of trouble learning. I feel have learned how teach because of it. Thanks for teaching me the Palomar knot. I used to use advanced clinch knot until today. Going to catch a monster tomorrow. You are a fantastic teacher. Thank you for being such a good teacher. You have inspired me.
Twenty years ago I used to glue myself to the tv on a Saturday morning for the big three: Roland Martin, the 'Great American fisherman', Orlando Wilson, and Bill Dance. Good to see Roland has embraced the new technology and is back to share his wisdom. I have to expand my repertoire past the palomar knot to the uni and loop!
Took up serious pike fishing and studied all the celeb anglers setting all their gear up, Knots and baiting, but I always struggled with braid and the clinch knot, after 100s of fishing videos this guy is the only one who has ever mentioned you can't use braid for a clinch knot, thanks buddy.
I always relied on a clinch knot w/ mono, mostly for trout fishing, but smallmouths have been introduced in my western state - now you talked me into new knots and braided line !
This guy has forgotten more about fishing than I'll ever know. Thank you Roland! I remember watching his TV show back in the 70s. A National Treasure. Yo Roland...Son...Dude! We love you bro! Keep doing what ya doing.
Hey Mr. Martin! Awesome Video. You're a great Teacher. Been teaching me for years! Miss your TNN and CMT shows!! I go way back too! But you're still the BEST!!
Thank you Roland! I love your videos, and have been a fan since I was a kid, (I'm 43 now, lol) I learned how to tie the Palomar knot watching your TV show many years ago and it's been my go to knot ever since.
Been around decades. He loves to teach and he still has the enthusiasm of a lil kid with a big fish on a cane pole. We all are better for what he conveys to the brother outdoorsman community. All the best.Cheers!
Thanks Roland! I used the klinch knot with braid and was not sure why I lost fish at the Hookset. Put me off braid for a while. Now I see why... thanks for the videos, very insightful. 👍
I have enjoyed watching Roland Martin catch fish for as long as I can remember. He could always take lesser fishermen to school. Glad to see that we can get some schooling still. I'm an old guy too.
This gentleman came to an outdoor show in Worcester, Mass some years back. USA Marine was the place. He gave an awesome seminar but you could tell something was off. I was told by a local pro that Mr. Martin had a hernia but didn't want to disappoint his fans. He went back to Florida and had it fixed. God Bless you and yours, Sir !
Love ya Mr. Martin my dad said you are one of the best fisherman on the planet and he watched you on tv growing up. Now it's my turn. And I think your really good teacher my dad taught me the Uni knot Albright improved fisherman's knot and Bimini. Still can't get the Bimini but I guess since I am only eleven I am doing pretty good I will keep watching you so I can surprise him with knew knots like the Palomar thank you sir. My Dad is hard to please my mom says he is the typical Captain likes to yell and be grouchy unless the fish is in the boat. Wish I could spend more time with him to learn more but he says he gets land sick if he is on land for to long. What ever that means not sure. Well again thanks
Roland knows his fishing stuff. Comes across as knowledgeable & imparts his knowledge in an easy listening style without any hype. When he talks old school, old school has not gone out of fashion. It works for me. Love ya Roland.
I've watched you on TV for years when I was a youngster. I never knew you where a Teacher and served in the Army. Thank you for your service and much respect from one Vet to another.
I just wanted to say that I viewed this video several months ago. I have returned for a review and I find it very helpful. I had not used a loop knot in a while and forgot how to tie it. I thank you and you should know that your work has long-lasting value. I appreciate you and may God bless.
I sure has some fun watching him on t.v. back in the 1990s...thank you Mr. Martin for hanging in there all these years and teaching us how to be better fishermen...I'm 66 years old and I love fishing...
I grew up watching you for years, and still do because you love what you do, you love teaching others your craft and have fun doing it. We know we’re getting the best info straight, with no BS. Thanks for doing these videos, 👍🎣🇺🇸
THank you. I'll be using braid for the first time this summer. This was a great demo. I used to watch you fish on TV when I was at my grandfather's place as a wee lad. I'm a fly fisherman by heart so these knots will be perfect to add to that application as well.
Roland you've been a national treasure for years. Thank you for all you have done to promote this national past time. You are a pro and an icon and I am grateful for you imparting your expertise on anyone who is lucky enough to tune in.
I'm not a huge fan of micro guides either but have ended up with a few over the years. I learned the FG knot and it isn't an issue. The FG knot is difficult to learn, I bought a jig and can tie one in under a minute now. I recently learned the Palomar knot for braid and it is incredibly strong. I also have used the un I knot and it works as well, at least I haven't had one fail yet. The glue tip is something I will try, I carry super glue for other things. The uni loop knot you showed looks amazing I have been struggling to tie the loop knots. I have been tying the uni knot since I was a kid and can tie it blind folded so this interests me. Thanks for the tips.
I'm a 74 year old bass fisherman who learned something from you today ! Thanks for freely continuing to contribute your knowledge TO US, YOUR FANS ! Roland Martin TRULY IS " THE GREAT AMERICAN FISHERMAN".
When I was little kid, back in the early 80's, my uncles, cousins, and I would watch your show on TV every Sunday. I recently got back into fishing and it makes me so happy to see that you're not only still fishing, but that your keeping up with times and sharing your wisdom here on UA-cam! I love you channels and your videos have helped me improve my fishing so much!. Thanks for doing what you do!!!
This made my day! Thank you Roland for a great video! By they way, my late father fished with you in a bass tournament on Lake Gaston, NC where names were drawn and competitors were paired in boats. My Dad was quite the joker, and he looked a bit like Conway Twitty, so you may remember him - Larry Wagoner. I'm going to use your knot recommendations with my two sons on our upcoming fresh and saltwater fishing trips this summer - thank you SO MUCH for sharing your well-earned wisdom!
@a10warthog61 The video has less then 40,000 views and even less then that would care to read comments so Dale Skelton's comment is hardly put out there to millions of people. PS: I dont think anyone cares if you dont care either.
Dear Mr. Martin,Siir, You mentioned that you read the comments. Well I read a lot of em and dang it Sir I don't think I can top any of the glowing statements I've seen here. But I'll throw in my humble two cents worth. I'm 58 years old and I have been a huge admirer of yours for many years. You're a true class act. A classy guy. No nonsense. No fluff. Straightforward. Honest. I just can't come up with enough ways to compliment you Sir. You are a genuine person and I'd just like to tell you that you are my hero. And I don't just toss that out there willy-nilly either. I mean it Mr. Roland. Thank you for the videos and gawd bless you Sir.
I too am an educator, and I think the key to Roland’s success is his teaching background. His ability to communicate his knowledge in a clear way is unmatched. Like a true educator, he encourages self-discovery and innovation after providing us the tools we need to be successful.
Keep em comin Roland!! I grew up watching you, learned a lot back then and since I’ve gotten back into Bass fishing in the last couple years it’s great to see you are still at it!! Tight lines!!
Hey Roland, thank you for sharing your wisdom and teaching. You're a wonderful teacher; I watch you to reinforce my skills and pick up where I'm lacking. I been seeing you since i was a kid, and im 40 now lol. The world needs more men like you. Keep sharing the wisdom sir, thank you and God bless 🙏
This subscriber and members of my motorcycle club traveled from Cafe 27 in (US 27) Southwest Ranches to Clewiston for lunch. We ended up at a tiki bar/restaurant. To my surprise and delight, it is YOUR Tiki bar/restaurant. Surprise, surprise! Your "cowboy" singer/guitar player was quite good. The gals working the marina store were quite nice. The restrooms could use air conditioning. Overall, enjoyed the experience!
Roland, that was absolutely the best knot tying video on braid I have ever seen. And from the master himself! You showed me, you convinced me, and gave me confidence that I can tie these and they are the best for braid. I am totally with you on the braid and braid plus leader setups. I do tie the Palomar, and I have tried the FG knot with mixed success, but from now on it’s the double uni for me! I have also tried the loop knot but I need to practice it more because I usually end up with either too big a loop or virtually no loop. Thank you for the great teaching sir! It is an honor snd privilege to learn from you. Thank you for continuing to teach and inspire confidence like no other! Love you Roland!
Excellent tutelage Roland! I've known about these knots for years from watching your fishing shows from when I was a kid...but I always still enjoy a proper lesson from the master! Palomar is my goto knot for most of my fishing needs! I am glad you are still doing what you love to do!
So glad to have found such an array of these videos. I'm actually amazed of the skill and sincere care you put into sharing your lifetime of fishing. A very good teacher indeed. Fan since the Bass Master Angler days of the 70's.
Ha, same deal as Pete except he's 2 years smarter than me... Been enjoying you and now the rest of your family for a long time. I live down in SWFL, soon as things open up a little I'll be up at the Marina in Clewiston and grab a guide and catch some fish... thanks for years and years of entertainment and information. Love you guys.

Thanks martin for your excellent and easy-to-understanding demo. It's great!!
I'm a 74 year old bass fisherman who learned something from you today ! Thanks for freely continuing to contribute your knowledge TO US, YOUR FANS ! Roland Martin TRULY IS " THE GREAT AMERICAN FISHERMAN".
Thank you kind sir. I have always followed you and your advice. Going back to the 80's.
You are The GOAT in my eyes ❤🎉
Professor Martin. Grew up watching back in the day . Still watching in the day.
Roland I haven't been able to watch your shows since the late 90s but it's so great to see you now 20 years later looking great and still teaching!
As much as I hate braid, your video tutorials and coaching are leaning me closer to making the switch and upping my game.
Thank You Roland! :)
I was born and raised in Florida. I watched your fishing shows go as long as I can remember you and Bill Dance are my favorites
a10warthog61 if nobody cares where I’m from then why did you say anything
a10warthog61 and your an ass
@a10warthog61 The video has less then 40,000 views and even less then that would care to read comments so Dale Skelton's comment is hardly put out there to millions of people. PS: I dont think anyone cares if you dont care either.
@a10warthog61 Nobody cares, but u
@a10warthog61 Only u
Dear Mr. Martin,Siir,
You mentioned that you read the comments.
Man I’m glad I found you, I watched you every time you came on tv when I was young.
You’ve always been the man Roland..
Thank you 👍🏼
I too am an educator, and I think the key to Roland’s success is his teaching background.
Tight lines!!
you are My ALL TIME!!!!! Fishing HERO !!!!!
Roland Good health to You !!!!! thanks for an Awesome video on tying
Great to see you and this post Mr. Martin. You look like you are ready to get in that Bass boat and win a few more Fishing titles! GOD Bless .
Roland, you are the granddad I never had. Keep it up, "old guy"!!
Roland you are truly a legend can watch you all day everyday ty for sharing your knowledge..
Perfect explanation and simplified! Thanks Bossman!
I am an old guy to at 72 yrs. and I learn something every time I watch your videos. Please make more if time permits. God Bless
Subscribed, you're a legend. I've been following you since I was 10 years old. God Bless, I'm 53 now......
So glad to have found such an array of these videos. I'm actually amazed of the skill and sincere care you put into sharing your lifetime of fishing. A very good teacher indeed. Fan since the Bass Master Angler days of the 70's.
