    Wow. I definitely have to try this one. Looks a heckuva lot easier and faster than the double-uni knots I've been tying my braid-to-fluoro with. Thanks for posting.

    There are all kinds of adages out there, and bits of wisdom that claim there are no shortcuts in life, you get out what you put in, you get what you pay for, etc…. However, I have to say that I suspect this knot might actually be exactly what I was looking for, a knot shortcut - an easy-to-tie yet strong and secure braid-to leader connection knot.
    It reminds me a bit of a Palomar knot. The guy who does the Bass Fishing HQ channel has done some pretty exhaustive tests of knot strengths, and concluded that the double Palomar is significantly stronger than a regular Palomar, and is one of the strongest of all knots for attaching braid to a lure. I wonder if there are any further loops or knots to add to this one that would similarly improve its strength.
    I will have to give this a try. Thank you for producing this video.

      Early on, I tried 4 twists of the loop as opposed to three. I couldn't find any difference in strength, and it made the knot significantly more difficult to tie smoothly. Then I tried it with only 2 turns. It still worked well with thicker lines, but not with light stuff (eg 10# braid to 8# fluoro) that I use a lot. So I ended up always tying it with three twists of the loop. And 15 years after discovering this knot, using braid with a fluoro leader almost exclusively on all my rods, I'm still using the same knot.

    I always felt this was the best knot for mono to flouro leader

    I've been using it for years.
    I used to use a knot tying tool Daiwa that can help.
    But doing it by hand doesn't rub the leader and cause friction.
    It's a very strong knot that goes through the guides.
    I use 6lb main and 8lb leader and you have to fo 5 to 6 turns the bigger the leader the less the turns.

    I have been using the Albright knot for this type of connection. Is this knot any better? It looks like it might be easier to tie than the Albright

    • @RichZFishes

      I find it a lot easier to tie than the Albright, and it has been much more reliable for me, too.

    How would this be compared to the crazy alberto knot?

      Much easier to tie than the Uni-Uni, Alberto, or Albright.

    Can I use the Seaguar knot for fluro to knottable wire?

    • @RichZFishes
      @RichZFishes  9 місяців тому

      Haven't used knottable wire in a long, long time. Way before I adopted the Lefty Kreh knot as my goto braid to leader knot. A have a feeling it would be tough to tie, but I would give it a try. If it ties properly and stands up to a little workshop abuse, give it a shot on the water.

    Do you have to modify this knot at all for the ultra slick braids like Gliss, Smackdown, or Hitena 8?

    • @RichZFishes
      @RichZFishes  4 роки тому +2

      I've used it with Smackdown with no problems at all. I've even tied smackdown-to-smackdown with it, just to see if it would hold.

      @@RichZFishes Thanks for the quick reply. Going to give this a go and see if it will replace my uni to uni knot as the go to leader knot for me. I tied a few practice ones based on your video and it seems like it has serious potential. Thanks for sharing!

    How does this knot compared to the FG Knot as far as strength?

    • @RichZFishes
      @RichZFishes  5 років тому +1

      I've never broken this knot or had it slip, so I don't have any reason to experiment with an alternative that takes 5 to 10 times as long to tie.

    • @seaskiff20
      @seaskiff20 5 років тому

      Understood. I played around with the FG tonight and will give the Seaguar a shot. 50# braid to 30# mono on my favorite salmon reel. Can’t wait for the fall monsters to hit the rivers!

    Do you do as few twists with lighter lines?

    Does it work well with fluro to fluro ?

    • @RichZFishes
      @RichZFishes  3 роки тому

      Strong, but comes out a little too bulky fluoro~fluoro for my taste.

    Isn’t this just a clever way to tie a 3 turn surgeons knot. I use a 6 turn surgeons knot so you just have it twist it 6x instead of 3.
