I know you are crazy busy these days, but more than ever I’m thankful that you take the time to do these reviews. They’re entertaining, informative, and dang if they aren’t a welcome diversion.
I’ve recently started collecting knives and upgrading my gadget game. After seeing a bunch of great UA-cam personalities, you have become a trusted favorite of mine. Thank you for your honesty, knowledge and super helpful “how to” videos.
I own over 200 knives between folders and fixed blades. I have folders from the likes of Spyderco, Cold Steel, Kershaw, Benchmade, Case, Buck, GEC, CRKT, Ontario, Hogue, etc. you name it, I have it. This knife is one of the most beautiful and elegant knives in my collection. It is simple and practical. It’s not going to be your go to knife for heavy work but you can toss it in your pocket and it will be useful for every day light tasks, and it will not alarm anyone around you. I think it is an old school artisan gem. I have mine in my pocket this very moment, I just love it.
This knife makes a great gift. Gave the FK5 to my brother in law, who's not really a knife guy last year. Explained about the custom made integral handle, D2 steel and hand made leather sheath. He was greatfull, but the blade being only 2.2 inches dosen't make a "big" impression. Over the past year, so many times something like "I used that knife you gave me the other day", "boy that knife came in handy the other day"....
I regularly watch your reviews, Nick, and this is the first knife in quite a long time that's really interested me. Love the simplicity of this - might pick one up.
This is the first time I've already owned a knife before you review it. Totally agree with your assessment and would just add on the good side that it's crazy light as you'd expect with the size and integral wood handle. I rarely carry mine as I much prefer a pocket clip and locking blade and don't love the friction pokey part sticking out of the top, but I do like owning it and just appreciating the craftsmanship.
This was a long time coming. Ohta knives are great value pickups for any collector, I would argue even more so than the original Higonokamis. I happen to own a friction folder made by the guy who taught Ohta (Kotoh), and it is also an excellent knife that will not leave my collection.
I guess if you were selling it, they wouldn't have to take your word that it is D2? I dunno, I think the aesthetics are worth it. That blade looks so clean without any markings. The whole design is minimalism done right.
Ohta make much nicer versions of that knife that have higher end steels. Also the pocket slip is designed for the lever to go in first so the lanyard hole is exposed out the top. The one I have came with a nice leather lanyard and would prevent putting it in the other way. My slip is nicer then yours and was hand made by Ohta. In any case the nicer models are much nicer, but I don't know the price since mine was a gift bought at the California Custom Knife show.

I completely agree. gives us a sense of normalcy. thank you @nick Shabazz

Thanks for the kind words!

The bar is supposed to stick out of the slip a tiny bit to give you something to grab onto and pull it out
I recently purchased a Morris Knives friction folder. Mike Morris is a Michigan maker. The knife and the maker are both gems!

First video watching from your channel and you're immediately my favorite reviewer 😂 knowledgeable and honest
Love it!
I was thinking about getting one of his knifes a couple months ago, very interesting designs.
It has a cool Higonokami vibe about it, but in wood.

I own a 7 cm and agree totally with your comments.
this wasn’t even on my radar, thanks Nick .
The birch handled one looks very nice. I am a budget knife guy and this is a budget custom. win win

some handle types are $50 depending on the vendor. lots of cool choices for handle type available.
I have one with cherry handle. Beautifully simple khife . I have fixed blades with more parts.
Why is the slot for the knife so much longer than the blade length?
Affordable custom knife
I like the Japanese style knives. Nick, can you throw some recommendations of other knives with similar style blade with a locking folder?
Nice👍👍
Iunch room approved👍
Not understanding why no steel marking is a bad thing
I guess if you were selling it, they wouldn't have to take your word that it is D2? I dunno, I think the aesthetics are worth it. That blade looks so clean without any markings. The whole design is minimalism done right.
Because usually no steel marking means low quality generic no-name steel.
Why I Ohta 👋🏽! For making so many cute comments on the knife! Cute comments Nick. Cute.
Need short knives for work, so got a carbon fiber one. Got to be tactical after all.

These things range from like $60 to $300 or so depending on the materials.
Looks like a great letter opener
In my country, people still freak out when I draw my dragonfly
Maybe put it in the slip pecker down...lol until u find a better one Thanks for another great video Stay safe! 👍👊
"OH YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SAMURAI" said every weab LOL
Hey, Nick. I just picked up a Ferrum Forge mini Arch Bishop. Happy to send it your way if you care to review it.
Bearings or washers?
Definitely not bearings, there's no detent so you want a pivot that provides a decent amount of friction so it stays closed until you want it to open.
Neither, no detent or anything so you want some resistance. Although the ones I own are smooth and easy to open.
@@whyillustrated5610 yeah, it was joke.
Stereotypical "knife bro" question.
Intriguing but I’lll stick with my Lucky One (ok, pricier)
Look up “shabazz” on urban dictionary you won’t regret it
Hilarious, my favorites are "A cult of people who follow the god Shabazz", and "Another term for feces".
What is this "lunchroom", of which you speak? (sorry, really bad CV-times-have-changed attempt at humor)
About every new knife you talk about sells out lol
First!
testicle sticker
$60 HAHAHAAAAA........
Stupid design.
No, it's a brilliant but old design. If it was stupid they wouldn't have been making knives in this style for ages.
