For me, this song saying "Is someone getting the best of you?" is asking you the question of whether you're being your best person, and whether you're giving that to the people you love. We should all try to strive to be the best version of ourselves. It's just really hard sometimes.

Except he meant it as … are they getting the best of you, as in taking advantage of you? That’s why one of the first lines is about breaking the chains holding you. And then he goes on with an example of him resting his head in someone’s noose. It’s about breaking free, not giving up, moving on, and finding yourself again.

I love the fact that even though this came out 15 years ago and it got played to DEATH on radio - you can come back to this after a while and still feel the immense power in it. I saw the Fooeys on this album tour cycle in 2005 and they were ON IT! Relentless

The last time I saw the Foos the crowd (about 60,000) were all chanting that "oooh oh oh" section as they left the stadium AFTER the gig! Also, just FYI, Dave often puts a quiet/loud section in his songs - he got that from Kurt Cobain (Dave was the drummer for Nirvana, in case anyone didn't know) who loved to do it too. But Kurt got the idea from The Pixies who used to do it before that.

The Foo Fighters are incredible. I've been to many concerts ranging from Allan Jackson to Dir en Grey and my favorite show BY FAR was the time I saw The Foo Fighters. From beginning to end Dave and the rest of the band really give it their all.
