Dj Quik was right, we took the 90's for granted.
It was the greatest era
Yeargh, FUCK THE MILLENNIUM!!! >: P
I mean thats the best summary I've ever hear about the 90s
Yesss
Quicks the greatest… but there was a lot of garbage in the 90s. Just got lucky some good movements slipped through the cracks into the mainstream.
These guys laid down the blueprint for alternative hip hop. Very musical .Their music is deep
No De La Soul but I got you ✌🏾
@@bigkeezo also Del the Funky Homosapien
these dudes were'nt Hiphop, pop music at best
ABSOLUTLEY NOT...DE LA SOUL, A TRIBE CALLED QUEST, NATIVE TONGUES, BLACK SHEEP...ALL DROPPED BEFORE THOSE FAT BOZOS.
Prince Paul did and for years before that with Stetsasonic. The actual blueprint was laid down by De la soul, who are still around, like these people trying to copy them really badly are not.
You can't combine limited listening such that you heard this first to be impressed by it with a Dunning Kruger Effect complete lack of knowledge of music to come up with such an inept statement.
Prince Paul goes on to found Psychological Records to deepen the sound and by the early 200s the legendary alternative rap imprint of Wordsound, with artists like Sensational, but a lot of work with Kool Keith and his various projects, like Black Elvis, meaning it stretches way, way past PM Dawn apart from them trying to copy them really badly, but it's all Prince Paul's concept and sound, hence him being into it for so long.
"I'd die without you" is one of the most beautifully written songs I ever heard in my life. RIP Prince B. And the 90's.🥺
It really is 😌😌 Brandy & Ray J covered the song on her “Full Moon” album
💯
It's my favorite song
Well said 😎
R.i.p.
Am I the only one intrigued about how ahead of the time they were?! these guys fully exuded the style and aesthetic of today’s artists ..that’s crazy
Everything they wore is what genZ are wearing now
@@thehoneyeffect that was my exact observation
Yes
Exactly! And should get more credit for their contribution to music.....1~Luv
No they look like they are wearing clothes from the early 90’s. Gen Z looks like they are wearing clothes from the 90’s as well. It’s weird to see people today wearing old looking clothes.
I'd Die Without You is still a classic to this day!!
BEAUTIFUL TRACK.
One of the most stunning compositions of anyone's time! 💕💕💕💕💕
No for real, it's literally one of my favorite songs OF ALL TIME. On my playlist and both of my kids know it, they know that song word for word😂💜
First time I ever heard Die Without You was in the movie Boomerang.. Loved it ever since..
but not really
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that it has been 30 years already. They walked a different path as a group and left some great timeless music for us to enjoy.

Their music is so poetic. I was listening to “I’d die without you” last night. I will always feel they were ahead of their time with their writing and style.
The first CD I ever bought was "Dearest Christian" in high school. Their music got me through alot of tough times in my life from bullying to issues with my parents. I would get dissed for listening to PM Dawn but it didn't matter because Prince B showed me that it was okay to be different. I wished I could have met Attrell and told him how much of an impact his music had on my life. RIP Prince B.
P pppppppppppppp
Prince Be's uniqueness was awe-inspiring! Downtown Venus and You Got Me Floatin'-a Hendrix cover-were just a couple of my MANY PM Dawn favorites! Thank you Mr. Cordes for getting us through the darkest of times through your gorgeous music. 💕💕💕💕💕

Rest In Peace. Did not know he passed. Praying for justice for the original PM Dawn and their families.
I remember going bowling in jersey city in 93, prince B was in the lane next to us, he hung out with us and chilled and talked music for an hour. He was a really down to earth.
that's awesome lucky you!.😊
This group was underrated even
at the height of thier fame. I've been
a big fan and support of PM Dawn
since day one. I actually listened
to PM Dawn on the regular.
Prince B is missed real tough.

If by underrated, you mean garbage, then yes.

I listen to them every day 😂😂
@@upabittoolate So Salty, I heard the Ocean in your comment.
PM Dawn were ahead of their time.
Absolutely
Aww man, this was my group! I loved their "New Age like" Rap sound,
it was absolutely ethereal. I was on another plane when I tapped into P.M. Dawn.
Your channel reminds me of Unsung, but like a shortened version of it.
Yea!
Yep
Wow.
Thank you! I'm obsessed with Unsung.
It really does but its straight to the point
I still listen to PM Dawn to this day.
Sounds like UK gave them a chance and it lit up their career! I'm glad they did cause us fans have been treated to some great songs that hold nostalgic value to this day :)
The U.K. is all that! They have always been there for Black artists
and recognize good music when they hear it. America is trendy, plastic,
image driven, and commercial. They no longer know or want to know what real
music is. The U.K. will always recognize and make room for great music, they always have!
Set Adrift To Memory Bliss also samples the drum solo of the song Ashley’s Roachclip by Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers.
"Ashley’s Roachclip" by Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers. Ahhh Sheeit!!! That cut is probably my #1 fav funk instrumental of my lifetime! I got introduced to Chuck Brown/DC. Go Go around '87. R.I.P. Sir Chuck! Didn't discover the Soul Searchers until the early 2000s. This was when I was troving the still existing local record shops, and diggin' through their crates. I saw this album, "Salt of the Earth"! The title immediately drew me in, and I dug the cover art. I was like bet, I have to take a listen to this. That cut grabbed me immediately. Then when that break came, I had an epiphany, and instantly started spitting the lyrics from "Paid in Full" by Eric B. & Rakim! [My fav MC/DJ Hip Hop duo of my lifetime!] Around the time that came out, that break had also been sampled by the group "Milli Vanilli" for their Grammy winning hit "Girl You Know It's True". [No, don't go there! That was whatever it was.] This beat was/still is continued to be sampled thereafter, P.M. Dawn included. I'll be honest, I wasn't really feelin' them at first, but that drum break + I did like "True" by Spandau Ballet + "De La' Soul" was already dope to me, and P.M. Dawn's flavor kind of reminded me of them. Copyrights and stolen royalties or not, at the very least pay RESPECT to the pioneers whom have come before you, inspired you, gave seed to whatever you producing in the here and now! The late '80s-mid '90s were a great time in Hip Hop. There was so much diversity! Everyone had their own sound. As for collaborations back in the day, my top 2 are "Self Destruction" by united East Coast artists, and "We're all in the same Gang" by united West Coast artists which came soon after. After that, shit just went sideways, and fell all the way off! Nowadays everybody on each other's recordings, and they all sound the same. What is called Hip Hop these days IS NOT TRUE HIP HOP! Call me an "Old Head" if you want, and I'll tell you Damn Right!

TRUTH!
I have never heart of PM Dawn before, after watching this video I looked them up and I had "I'd Die Without You." on repeat at least 15 times, beautiful song. Prince B had an amazing voice, may he rest in peace..
"I'd die without you" is one of the best songs of all time.
Their songs will forever remain timeless.
Its sad about Prince health conditions. Especially with all the information on reversing diabetes today. As someone who's losing weight, sugar is definitely the strongest drug ever! You have to want to be healthy. Rest in peace 🙏🏼
Where can information on reversing diabetes be found? I know there’s Google but do you have a specific website? Thanks for the information.
@@Olutunu to be honest I dont know a specific site but I would try watching UA-cam videos from doctors and testimonies on reversing diabetes and what they did. But it is very possible. I do see some went vegan and plant based.
@@Olutunu Google scholar start there and the American diabetes association
@Elemental Williams. Look into fasting and swapping out sugar for monkfruit. Costco sells the granulated version for a lot cheaper than the grocery stores and it doesn’t leave that cooling effect after eating it in my opinion. There are some legit channels on UA-cam that talk about fasting and reversing diabetes. I was addicted to sugar and I was able to get away from it completely and get my health together. God bless.
Yes, Prince could have gotten help. Bariatric surgery has been around for a while. It's not a cure all, but it would have been a good step in the right direction. He is missed.
I laughed hysterically when you talked about KRS-One being the founder of the stop the violence movement... after he had just done something violent 🤣 .
I mean...come on man! 😂
@@JuicyPopEntertainment I was just about to say that. What happened to them? Krs-one happened. Such a lame moment in hip hop. Lost all respect for "the teacher" after that wack ass stunt.
@@Solodolo84 Hip-Hop is a contact sport you can't talk that bullshit come to NYC and not be held accountable.
@@AbuKahn I guess saying someone wants to be a teacher, but a teacher of what is just over the edge huh? KRS fed into the same bullshit he spoke against. Thus, a classic hip hop moment was born.
@@TonyBambino P.M. Dawn better be lucky he didn't say that about KRS One when Scott La Rock was still living, and they were considering themselves to be "Criminal Minded".

Set adrift of memory bliss will always be my song. Forever!
Souls of Mischief would be a great story!
Facts
Souls is still making music and hosting hiero day every year.
PM Dawn deserves its flowers musically. Sad that incident happened over an unfortunate interview.
Damn, this just took me back. PM Dawn were huge in the UK, we loved them, their music was so beautiful. My sister and I were 90s kids, this takes me back. There had a very different energy to the other American acts.
They had real soul. Something missing from a lot of music today and back then being pumped on the airwaves.
Those were my high school days! We didnt know any better to realize these groups had so much impact and talent. I still remember those beautiful memories of my life. Blessings!
It is really crazy how almost every artist from back then went through something major
I was always such a BW weirdo so PM Dawn resonated with me soo much! They got me through very dark times in my life. Sorry to hear about Prince B, love the original dynamic duo to this day! I am sitting here crying about it.

RIP prince B one of a kind
They had a chill vibe...Crazy i like them alot more than Krs One now...who woulda thought ? lol
One of the most underrated groups ever. Also, don't forget they contributed "Reality Used to be a Friend of Mine" to the opening of Encino Man.
Personally, as a fan from the very beginning, I feel PM Dawn died with Prince Be... there is no replacing that man's unbelievable talent. I don't care for anything that's been released under the name after his passing. The end of Dearest Christian where he's talking to his son about being finished his "la-las" moves me to tears every single time. Don't sleep on that album, folks.
Amen to that!
PM Dawn and the 3 Tony's were my absolute favorites. I loved the 90's.
Iconic brothers! Style wise, music wise… I could tell they definitely made the wave back then.
Their music is magically ethereal. It was the soundtrack of my life at the time. I'd found my spiritual path, and the vision quest that ensued helped my life fall magically into place. Rest well sweet Prince....
Set Adrift on Memory Bliss video was on heavy rotation on MTV!!
‘I’d Die Without You’ is still my all time favorite song.
Mine too. It's one of the best songs ever made.
Thank you for dropping this video. It came up just in a good time for me. Prince B dying at 46 is terrifying for a big guy like me.
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air intro took me out. They were really ahead of their time though - not a lot of people were doing what they were doing, and I appreciated their uniqueness.
They were sampling -- like most rap/hip hop artists.
The Fresh Prince of Bel air story their Cousin Doc G is putting out is false
Die without you is my all time favorite song. Prince passed away on my birthday. Rest Easy 👑
It makes sense that they had their early success in the UK before the US.
In the early 90’s the whole daisy age, Native Tongues, positive vibes style rap was really popular.
Tribe, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers and Arrested Development were all embraced.
There was a lot of crossover with the dance/ house scene in the early 90’s in the UK and Europe.
I guess in the US the hip hop scene was a lot more insular and purist, hence the backlash against them.
I’d Die Without You + Boomerang = Instant Classics till this day! 😩👍🏾 That song was on a FOREVER LOOP when it dropped…what a time 😛
Thats right you can't replace the original. The UK has so much taste. P.M. Dawn Epic. ❤️
Just finished watching this video, grew up on their music in high school, so many memories of that era, their music helped me to get through those years, they were innovative and unique, talented and fun, sad what has become of their legacy in terms of no original members, but the great memories of their music lives on!
PM. Dawn was way ahead, they made me who I am today and for that I'm grateful, no one comes close!
To this day PM Dawn is on my playlist. Prince B, I’m glad you came into this world and left me emotions I never knew I had. RIP Bro
Loved this group's sound. I used to play their songs to death. These other two imposters can never be what PM Dawn originally was,
👏 💯
My first thought upon seeing this title "Is it my turn to wish you were lying here?, I tend to dream you when I'm not sleeping ooohhhhh"
Stories on groups like Finesse & Synquis, Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz, The Gyrlz, The Coup, The Conscious Daughters, and Above the Law would be very interesting

Remember Columbia House Records, get 25 albums for 99cents?!? Then you are trapped in a contract for 3 years to buy 100 albums at double the price? ha ha. Unless you used a fake name and they couldn't bill you.
Yes it would!!!! I loved the Gurlz, wore out that cassette tape out
"I'd Die Without You" is one of the best tunes I've ever heard in my life. Who cares about some paper pusher executives who didn't think they were worth a dime. What's new. RIP!
"Die without you" and "Patient Eyes" still get me
Just playing "Patient Eyes" just the other day lol!
They made classics. It was room for every type of artist in hip hop, especially in the 90s. Paper Doll was my mom's jam. The Boomerang soundtrack put them over the top. Legendary status 🍻🎶
One of the most underrated artists….I have all the albums and play them constantly.
One of the most underrated groups ever.
These guys were so ahead of their time. The alt rap of the 90s aged much better than most gangster rap imo
I love PM Dawn. They were so unique and original. Plus, their lyrics were miles better than the average 'shake your booty' trash we have today. Their song with Boy George - "More Than Likely" - is one of their coolest tracks. I was devastated when I heard of Prince B's passing. No one can replace him and DJ Minute Mix.
Yes! Two of the most beautiful voices to have ever graced a recording. "More Than Likely" is sublime.

I loved PM Dawn back in the day..I remember that whole beef with them and KRS One.. but I was always very open and enjoyed all sides of hip hop. I miss that style of hippy meets rap of the 90s..Some probably didn’t like De La Soul either but I was into them in a big way.
Sad to hear that Prince B has so many health problems..that part of this was shocking to hear.
It's crazy that De la soul and Tribe got love in the Hip Hop community but P.m Dawn didn't. They are all in the same cloth.
Paper doll was dope too. PM Dawn was definitely ahead of thier time and they should get Way more credit for their contribution to music than they do. Legends!.....1~Luv
this channel is helping me relive my childhood. Everytime you post - I think “oh yeah what happened to them?”
I absolutely love their song "Paper doll" and PM Dawn that had a vibe all its own. If I could compare to some of the artists of the day, it would be Sade, Lisa Stanfield, and Loose Ends. Such a forward thinking duo who rather than offering up "songs" like other artists, they really tried to give you an experience. And their music is an experience that speaks to perhaps a "darker" part of one's soul. And I really got to admire the dark interview because it really speaks to what is happening now.
Racism is stupid ,people who practice it are stupid. Can't we just acknowledge we have cultural and other differences and that deep down we are just people trying to survive in a world that it turning upside down? The interview was in the 90's and now people like Morgan Freeman are carrying the message. "Want to stop racism? Stop talking about racism". This was and IS the message. And we have PM Dawn (pre death) to thank for that.
Like someone wrote in the comments: "We really overlooked the 90s didn't we?"
*Paper Doll* was my favorite of all time dude, I still have it on my playlist to this day. Facts!
Growing up in the UK I loved their music but I never considered them as hip hop cause they didn't sound anything like the American hip hop artists I also loved. Anyway it really doesn't matter because great music is great. Nowadays I don't think you can say for sure what an artist does cause they move through genre's and reach a wider audience. Another great video.
I'm from the UK as well and remember PM Dawn, it just seems that in the UK we judge by the music rather than trying to force black artists into rigid boxes, their music was just so beautiful, so atmospheric.
PM Dawn's debut album also turned 30 back in August!!
