The racial diversity in Color Me Badd completely contrasted with what was going on in the streets at the time (ex.'92 LA riots) so much so I recall people suspecting the group was manufactured that way, like a gimmick. Jokes were made, but their talent was undeniable. CMB hustled to make it and deserved their achievements. While I don't think groups need to stick together forever, it stinks they didn't part ways amicably.
Just shows you that most American kids at least without being told they shouldn't from politicians and such make friends with kids of all different types without regard to their colors it happens millions of times all across the country it just doesn't fit the narrative
@@CoolGobyFish Stop being a dumbass lol “white” is also not a race, ethnicity, or nationality if you want to be specific. Anglo-American is the proper prefix. But let’s get to the point here,.. there was a Jew and a Latino in the group. So stop trying to be that politically correct douche, especially if you’re only going to half ass the ethnicity. Point here is, they all had different homage cultures but they were all N.American
@@CoolGobyFish You are correct, Mexican is not a race (Latino/Latin-X/Hispanic would be ethnicities) which is why I never mentioned it being one 😄. However, Caucasian, Native-American, and African-American/Black are races identified within this group, which makes them more diverse than many of the top R&B groups in the early 90's that had all Black members.
@@hushg2000 Jew is religion, while Latino is a language group. White is a race. Mexican is a nationality, as in citizenship. Mexicans come in all races and ethnicities, just like Americans
The early 1990s era seemed to be filled with so many music stars who were so big at the time. I remember the feeling of that time when I was extremely young and Color Me Badd was one of the most talked about groups out there! C+C Music Factory, MC Hammer, Hi-Five, and Boys 2 Men automatically come to mind as some of the most popular acts when I think about 1990-1993.
I have always wondered why C+C Music Factory never kept up making music. They sounded great to me then. I guess maybe the producers were trying to farm the music, like maybe they threw a bunch of people (unfamiliar with each other) together to sing the songs they were given. Whatever happened, the group didn’t develop much past the initial hits and they seemed to dissolve. It’s like no one ever talks about them anymore, but they had some really great songs.
@@BlackSeranna One of the producers (David Cole) died shortly after the release of their second album. Along with that, the guy who raps on "Everybody Dance Now" (Freedom Williams) left the group after the first album. Things fell apart basically and were never quite the same. Not to mention after the lawsuit and lip-sync scandal, the public wasn't feeling them as much. Similar to what happened with Milli Vanilli just not on as huge a level.
@@BlackSeranna Before the release of their second album Freedom Williams who was the rapper in the group left to be a solo artist. Then, one of the two producers (David Cole who's the other "C" in C+C) died after they released their second album. With half of the original group gone, I believe Robert Cliviles (the first "C" in C+C) just hung it up. The female singer, Zelma Davis, apparently was blacklisted in the music industry after C+C due to her being so closely associated with the Martha Wash lip-synching scandal from C+C's debut single "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now).
@@TheNewgreatlife Ah, thank you! You know, before the big scandal with Milli Vanilli, we rocked out that summer, 1989. The songs are still good, but the lip syncing threw a shadow over the whole thing and ruined it. The worst part is, those guys could actually sing. The original singers were American soldiers based in, I believe, Germany at the time. They recorded the songs and then the songs were lip synced by the Milli Vanilli members. I thought it sounded so crazy at the time; I think the general population was baffled as to why music producers would think that this was a good idea to create a team of “musicians”. Right after it happened, our local radio station had a “Milli Vanilli Hits Day”; the whole day the dj’s played top of the chart singles music from GNR, Digital Underground, Bel Biv Devoe, etcetera, and back tagged the music with, “That was Milli Vanilli.”
As someone who grew up in this era, Color Me Bad was one of those groups that teetered between cool and corny but somehow by a stroke of good luck, made it to cool. Kind of like the Spice Girls who would come out over a decade later.
I played their trademark song until the cassette tape went bad. That song was/is good for any playlist, sex, cardio, weight lifting. It will go down in my top 30 all time favorite list. Thanks for the update. I always wonder what happened to them whenever I hear their music.

My sister was OBSESSED with these guys back in 1991 (pretty much every girl back in Philly at the time was) and played the cassette until it basically stopped working. It just makes me laugh seeing them now because she always referred to Sam as "Forehead", never by his name.

Just shows you that most American kids at least without being told they shouldn't from politicians and such make friends with kids of all different types without regard to their colors it happens millions of times all across the country it just doesn't fit the narrative
not sure how they are racially diverse. they only had one black guy in the group. ps.mexican isn't a race.
I was in high school then and remember all of them
I have always wondered why C+C Music Factory never kept up making music.
I remember someone leaving a comment on another video suggesting you do this group. You listened and responded. Subscribed.

Yep! Always honored at home! I pray that they overcome their personal issue and atleast become cordial.

It just makes me laugh seeing them now because she always referred to Sam as "Forehead", never by his name.
damn i bet a bunch of kids referred to him as that lol poor guy. i personally love a big ass forehead
And every smart dude in HS played that tape on dates ; )

I'm saddened to hear they went through so much. I remember them and I still listen to their music today and always will. God bless these guys and their families.
I would love to see these guys do a reunion on the BET Awards!! That would be so dope!!
They did like almost 8 years ago .
@@msprettynurse83no, only two of the four members did.

No wonder they want nothing to do with Brian.

Amazing the implosion of this group and as individuals as well. Hope they all found peace eventually.
Robin Thicke also wrote Color Me Badd's song Sexual Capacity which was on the Striptease soundtrack
Giant Records had a lot of acts on there like Color Me Badd, Jade, Hammer, Miki Howard, Tara Kemp, Lord Finesse, Big Mountain, Ahmad, Letters to Cleo, etc.!!
Even Christopher Williams signed to that label after being dumped off MCA Uptown Records.
And the group Cold Premiere. The group that performed the song "That Body" in the movie "Class Act". Follow whats happening with them on UA-cam " A Quiet Giant".

That was Miki’s Ain’t Nobody Like You era, too. Supreme bop right therrre 💯. And Jade were too underrated!

I wasn't expecting that video of the stage shove. Had to rewind. This series is priceless. So many, "Wow, who knew?" moments.
It’s kinda’ the messy, drama filled situation I expected. They couldn’t even get it together enough to monetize the amazing brand that developed. They should all be able to live quite comfortably just off of that. Unfortunate.
Sam Waters, who put his energy in a solid relationship and beginning a family, salute to you sir. That is success.
