Just picked up a 3rd gen montero from a dealer with 168k miles for $8000, a lil bit spendy but its one owner and was serviced through a dealer its whole life. hope i get to have some fun in the snow this year with it!
Great video. I own one 1st generation 1989 and 3rd gen 2006. Love both a lot. About the 3rd is has a great air conditioner, its comfort and big. Super strong and love the way that it moves on off road.
Sadly, I totaled my Gen 2.5, but that experience and how it withstood the damage is why I just had to have another Monty and now own a Gen 3. It was really quite impressive, and had the frame not been bent (and a crease in the roof) I might have rebuilt it. My shoulders are a bit wide, and I always felt crammed into the Gen 2.5. That has been alleviated a bit in the Gen 3. Also, the step up from the 3.5 and 4-speed to the 3.8 and 5-speed was SO much better at highway speeds. I do miss the manual locking rear I had in the Gen 2.5. I never even used it, but just knowing it was there was a comfort.
Hello from Mexico !. I own one the rarer models of Mitsubishi, the V6 gas Montero Sport 2011 4x4. Has like four other names depending on the country. most are diesel, very few V6's. Gets 23mpg on the hwy. Has manual shift transfer case with shift on the fly AWD. Then 4x4 with central diff locked, then 4 low with center diff locked, and finally a selectable rear locking diff on a solid rear axle. So 5 drives modes without any computers ! 3 row seating but not as roomy as the one you have.
I own 2005, for ~4-5 years, and you are correct, best universal size, not to big, not to small. Only issue its diesel 3.2 engine, with fuel pump. That's why i switch to 2.8, mechanical pump
I've got a 2006 XLS from Puerto Rico here in AZ. Cloth seats, no sunroof and the modern xfer case and traction control :D. It's HYBLID because there is no R in Japanese lol. A lot of overlanders talk about global vehicles being king of long distance travel but they all forget the Gen 3 was a globally available vehicle when they make their "lists". Any continent will have parts even China.
Just watched a review of the new Prado. It feels like 80-90% of its features-aside from the new niceties-are already available in a Gen 3 Montero/Pajero.
My 02 Has been A dependable truck in Az For over 20 years Nothing serious besides a broken Tensioner pulley or Sunbaked Plastics From living close to the sun. Be sure to Replace The T coolant junction for the Rear Heater, Mine gave up spectacularly on the highway, Ez pz coolant flush.
I am on my second 2001 I love these things unfortunately the second one needs the transfer case switches replaced I read the codes (blinks). just havent had the time or extra cash to get it fixed. Got a video of my first one up I will have my second one posted soon. 1st one I have is 215k miles all stock, second one is at 175k with an ironman lift.
Replacing the switches is not super fun since there is not much room to work in there above the transfer case. Ideally, if you can lift the entire vehicle up high enough so that you can sit underneath it then that makes it much easier. Then just remove the rear driveshaft and transmission crossmember and the tcase will hang down enough to do the job. Be sure to clean the ball bearings below the switches too. We carry the switches, new crush washers, and crossmember bushings.
@@luso_overland Awesome thanks for the info,I dont know why I cant let these things go the one I drive most the fuel gauge just stopped working lol. Sometimes I wonder why i keep them.. they are also horrible on gas. 🤑
Just to clarify, you cannot go into 4HLC going 60mph, anytime you engage the centre lock you must be at a stop. This is what my sticker says on the drivers door
Interesting, totally fine to do so on US models (I do it all the time) and the only warning of coming to a stop on our stickers is for shifting into 4LLC. lusooverland.com/montero-gen3-transfer-case-4x4-operation-decal-mr534216/
Just hit 200000 miles today. Thanx Marco!

Nice, still plenty of life left in it!

That extra gear in the transmission is such a huge upgrade.

Awesome! I wish we had diesel Monteros here. I lived in Guanajuato for a year and go to see lots of cool Montero and Montero Sports there :-)
Fantastic car.
I heve one 2006, 3D, in Brasil.
Great video and channel. Thanks!

Amazing rig.
What year model is this?
Whats engine does is have?
What transmission does it have?
What do you think about the 4m41 diesel gen3?
Hello, it's a 2005 with the 3.8L V6 and 5 speed automatic transmission. Can't speak on any diesels with experience since the USA never got them.

Same for me. Can’t afford them but since I don’t off-road and winter has disappeared in the Midwest no need at this point

THERE IS A 01 MONTERO FOR 1750 IN ALBUQUERQUE NM CL. IT IS TOO FAR FOR ME TO CHECK OUT. IT HAS AN OVERHEATING ISSUE BUT REST IS IN GOOD SHAPE.
I concur.

There's an '03 XLR at my junk yard. Does that have the 4.9 gears ??
No, 4.30s would be my bet
Please stop spreading awareness about Montero/Pajero.
