I love the release of the lip trill into vowels. The voice is feeling so relaxed and light right now. Also, I’m enjoying the all-in-one videos, it helps make practicing extended range even easier!
What a wonderful set of exercises for mezzo! This is really going to help me. Not knowing what to do about the break places in my voice are what have caused my panic and stage fright that have kept me from volunteering to sing solo all my life. Thank you so much. J
Thanks to this video I nailed the high notes at my break point when I performed the piece I'd been practicing. I changed the beginning of the first part of the first high note on the vowel sound long "ee" to a short "u" vowel and soared over the break. As a beginner, I was thrilled I could do it finally. One thing I wish someone would have told me before I sang was that I could have turned off the Mike and kept vocalizing through the long break between other pieces I had to sing znd my solo piece. If I had not simply sat still resting, my throat might not have filled up with flem and nearly spoiled the first half of my solo choking on it, unable to sing through it. Learn something new every day, the hard way! Thank you so much for the exercises and suggestions you have offered that help hundreds of singers like me. J
Love this combination of lip trill and vowel release, it makes so much sense. My only issue, as a bass (in fact basso profondo, but that is another story) I struggled , and after a while I though it better to drop an octave generally. However, the last exercise, working over the "break" was really tricky. I will persevere, I have been studying a Monteverdi aria (Seneca's Death scene from Poppea) and have been having some problems with the top notes, I am hoping this exercise might be just the trick I need. Thanks from the deserts of Australia.
I found the alto middle voice part of the exercise to be super helpful! but I can’t do the secondo passaggio ones without either squeezing or sounding too airy- even during the lip trills. I know there could be a ton of things that i might be doing wrong, but do you have any tips?
Give it some time practicing at the middle voice registration event, a few weeks even. At that time, as hopefully things will be settling in, try the secondo passaggio section, but if possible, do the 'super lip trill'.
