I don't do a lot of videos that extend into the farther upper reaches of the individual fachs, but here's one to work on.
The first two exercises are excellent for sustained airflow, continuity of vowel sound and matching of resonance form one vowel to the next.
The third and fourth patterns extend a significant amount. The fourth pattern in particular, with the trill, is excellent for learning to retain engagement through the line. As I mention in the video, once you have that exercises sorted out by using the lip trill, rewind a bit and try it with a vowel of your choosing.
Enjoy!
Jeff knows it - every girl's crazy for the scarf dressed man.
lmaoooo
foolish of you to think Jeff's appeal is limited to one gender
I don't doubt it Calder, it is just that every "person's" crazy doesn't quite work in the context of that song.
And a guy in my case! Jeff is such a classy guy. I do wish he'd stop using the term "doing so" so much ;-). Nit picking the classy man.
Guys too ❤❤❤
Jeff you truly are gift to vocalists everywhere.
I feel so much more confident about my voice now. Thank you and thats a bangin scarf.
Excellent! Thanks for watching and singing along! I do enjoy my scarves, it's true. Lavender cashmere...talk about indulgences!
Best,
Jeff
Thanks Jeff, im a Bass-baritone, and i usually struggle with my upper register. But after doing your warmups for a week now, i noticed something weird. I could sing in the upper part of my voice without warming up, pretty cool:) i will continue to use your warmups!
Brilliant! Keep it up!
Jeff
Although I’m a high baritone I just the love balance this vocal placement has. Awsome video.
Fantastic! Thank you so much for watching and thank you for your kind words!
Jeff
Our vocalist uses your baritone videos before shows and recording! Thanks for all the amazing work!
Fantastic! Thanks for watching!
Jeff
Just here to say this: this man is a legend. Love from Vietnam, Mr Rolka!
Very kind! Thank you so much for being here! Enjoy the channel!!!
Jeff Rolka, you're superb. I finally sang the last exercise perfectly and reached the high notes with no trouble. Thank you.
Great job!
This man is a legend... impacting on lot of lives in a very positive way ❤❤
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
I love your baritone videos, this one I do it after the full range video and it helps a lot! thanks for your work!
Lorena Von Dyke Love 'em too!!!
Thank you!! I really appreciate that!
Jeff
I've been following his videos while attending a phonoaudiologist. It's been great!
Hi Jeff, another great workout for us baritones. I really appreciate these , just found this one. I'm wondering if this exercise could be done in conjunction with a video you did on keeping the larynix low? I tried this exercise with my knuckle against my throat, makes for challenging workout. Should I be combining these, what do you recommend? Thanks again for the best vocal instruction on youtube.
i do the same thing!
I want to thank you for your baritone singing excercises. I'm doing it now for almost a year and my choir conductor says my singing has made a very great improvement and I my notes are very clear and always in tune. Knowing that before I joined the choir, I haven't sung before in my live.
Awesome! Well done for making technique a regular part of your vocal exercises and sticking with it! Keep it up! Thanks for watching!
Jeff
Yeah these are great. I know nothing about signing but love it and my family all say that I sound better than I did a year ago. That tells you how much time I spend watching your videos.
Thank you for watching and congratulations on your progress!!! Keep up the great work!
Jeff
Brutal! My favourite practice so far! Keep up the good work, Jeff! 👏🏻
Indeed - this is a challenging one! Thank you for watching!
Jeff
Mr Rolka, i have to thank you for these wonderful videos. Ive been at it for several weeks now since Ive found them and my range has increased to be able to hit every note, including the high ones, in the scales you have played. Your instruction is awesome and has helped me phenominally. Thank you.
I feel like I should comment every time I use this video! Jeff made me a better singer just by warming up with him. Thanks Jeff.
Thank you so much for that! I really appreciate it!
Jeff
True..
Thanks Jeff, from Argentina. Your videos are being so helpful to discover my vocal potential and trusting my vocal folds (I'm learning how to keep my mind aside from the ecuation and feeling more how the real instrument works)
Omggggg!!! I’m a singer & this excersise was soo fun ! The last portion was amazing! I never knew I could do all these scales like this being a baritenor. I’ve never done a warm up like this. This was amazing. I got every note. The feeling of this gave me chills. Awsome warm up!
Jeff, I've been seeing your videos the last months and it's AMAZING how much they've helped me. Thank you so much for putting this content up free for anybody. Wish you the best!
Thank you very much! Glad that you're enjoying the channel and keep singing! All the best!
Jeff
Oh my goodness, that went way up there. To my surprise, I tried to relax, and did manage to get through these exercises. One of the most challenging and fun of all your baritone videos. Thank you!
My gosh, thank you for these so valuable uploads!
Hi Jeff, I use this exercise and the one I use at Wednesday, to be fit for the gig this evening. My voice feels much more better since I use your videos. Thank you
Awesome! Thanks for watching and break a leg!
Jeff
Love your warmups so much! I use them all the time and share them with my collaborators.
Without any further ado at 0:48 😉 Thanks Jeff! 🐯

You are a great mentor through this medium. I have enjoyed your video content. More importantly you have help me grow my vocals in a just a few videos. The vowel combinations in the warm ups have been the greatest thing in 2018. Thank you!!!
Thank you very much! I really appreciate that! Thank you for noticing the vowel combinations! They are a huge part of my practice and it's great that they are helping!
Best!
Jeff
Thanks I am low bass this helps me get higher
Thank you, jeff. I am really hearing how my voice develops as I continue your warm ups
I love the speed i love the classic sound it has.
I hope to contribute in a little way as a token of gratitude to Mr. Rolka(my guru) soon,God help me.
Hi jeff i found you new. But with you I found my voice again. Thanks for everything. The other vocal coaches in UA-cam are trash ! You are perfect . You focus on the abilities that can be developed and categories like baritone tenor vs. You are KING. I don't know how to thank you. But thank you thank you thank you . And god bless you.
As a baritone who was always terrified of higher notes because I feel like I sound like a strangled seagull with a cold..... which I probably do lol.... this was fun. That last exercise was....... interesting lol. But I had fun failing at it when it got WAY up there lol
நன்றி ஆசானே ❤
Thank you so much. I appreciate that!
still coming back to this, still loving how you don't bandy words up top lol
Straight to the singing. That's how we roll.
Thank you for all your hard work!
You're welcome! Thank you for your kind words and taking the time to share them with me!
Best,
Jeff
Dear Jeff: All your videos are excellent, but really, this is the best video of warm up I have seen. I enjoy everyday with your videos with my friends and sons wich are learning too much and improving the voices each time with your helpful. Thousand thanks.
You're very welcome! Thank you for your kind words! Enjoy the channel and thanks for commenting!
All the best,
Jeff
Such a pro.
Wow......what vocal warmup!
Great video, nice to have some baritone scales that hit my head voice/upper range, seems like I either find lessons that stay too low or are for tenors and stay too high.
you helped me reach C5!
my brother came to bother me saying "are you ok?" :(, but i know that here the goal it's not sound beauty but warm up the voice and develop an extended range... it's an exercise :)
I was once vocalizing while driving (not recommended! - unsafe!) and caught some motion out of the corner of my eye. It was a warm California afternoon and I had stopped at a stop light. The motion I saw was the car next to mine's window rolling up! Apparently they weren't into the vocalization either!
Some of the sounds we make to learn about how our voices work aren't terribly pleasant, but they go into a complete sound that is our expressive voice. Keep up the great work!
All the best,
Jeff
thanks! i use your warm ups a lot :) and i like them very much, also i started the triple A method :B
Going between the 9 and the 7. A jazz musicians dream! I'm gonna send you some dough after the 1st of the month. These videos are saving my butt getting ready for gigs!
Excellent!!! I am very happy to have helped. Thank you for considering making a contribution! It really helps. When the time is right, here's a link:

Jeff
Jeff, I enjoy doubling your warm-ups, geared for tenors and baritones. I am training to be a baritenor by the definition that he covers both the tenor and baritone ranges and two groups of guys can pull this off. One group are the tenors with a good extension of notes at the low end of their voices and the other group are the baritones with a good extension of notes at the high end.
Sounds good!
Subscribed! Thank you Jeff for all the hard work on these!
Being a baritone can often entail more than the typical baritone singing range, and like an odd baritone myself it's great to have an opportunity to tailor my exercise for both highs and lows of my range.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching and thanks for your kind words! Enjoy the channel!
Best,
Jeff
these exercises still serve me this 2021
Thanks again
This is premier stuff, groovy!
Thank you! Enjoy!
Best,
Jeff
Hey Jeff, thanks so much for all the awesome exercises, they really are helping! :)
best warm ups on here!!!
Awesome!!! Thank you so much for your kind words! Thanks for watching and singing along with me!
Jeff
I’ve been using your videos for a long time and this one is helping me big time with a production of Plaid Tidings that’s particularly vocally challenging. Thank you! 😄
Excellent extended range warmup -- very reliably opens up my range. Thank you!
Fantastic! You're welcome!
Enjoy!
Jeff
liked this before I even started watching! Always quality from Jeff!
It's so hard to hit the high notes in tune with the vowels
Thanks, Elton John C. Reilly!!!
Can't unsee that now🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
riffs and runs- blues and classical!!! dani bandolier
Great video! I think I'm a baritone. Really enjoyed it. Thank you!
Love your videos Jeff! Thank you for sharing your wisdom And talent
Thanks mr. Jeff
Thank you!
Excellent! Thx Jeff! Rick S.
Great exercices with Awesome and funny guy :) thx so much
Awesome!!! Thanks for watching!
Its Nice, Thanks from Argentina!
Thankyou!
Awesome! Thx Jeff!
I wonder if that's pharyngeal resonance you have in your voice or you're just ill hm.. cuz if that's resonance then it's a good thing i'm trying to copy it
Nice video! I can't hit anything above a high D (so the last few notes of some of these exercises) unless I squeeze the air in a way that seems unhealthy! Should I try anyway, or just leave these high notes out of practice?
Leave them out or switch to the lip trill for those pitches. Super lip trill would be ideal, as shown in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/QLQCXXlPvP0/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching!
Jeff
thank you so much for your video
Great exercises!
That last one is a doozy!
very challenging ! loved it
What kind of extremely low baritones exercise madness is this?
>.< I almost threw my throat hitting those low notes.
kotosqopos lol I guess if yer a high baritone or baritenor/lyric baritone .. you can do it ! Best of luck!!
You're a tenor
I’m a baritone and I could go lower. Just stating a fact. In another comment Jeff stated he didn’t go below G2 here though. And I’ve got a D2.
thank you!🙏🙏
You're welcome 😊
If there is anyone who practiced with this video, could you tell me how did you progress? Was it very efficient or not?
I find it very useful but, I would recomend you starting (Could be in the same day or not) with another easier vocalization first that Jeff has also in YT. (Such as: Baritone full range warm up or "Gentle singing..." or "Chill warm up..." The last one works really well for me before doing this one.
should i flip into falceto when it gets higher?
Depends on where you are in the scale and what you mean by the term 'falsetto.' Different schools of voice use it differently.
Gran video! Me ayudas mucho gracias por todo
rad! thanks!!
Amazing, thanks!
I accidentally had this at 1.5x, once I got past the first trills I was like what’s happening rn 😂
Nice! That's a speed workout!
Best,
Jeff
that was great. thank you.
Hi Jeff, thank you for your work. I've been using your baritone warm up for four months now and this is the only one where I feel I made 0 improvement. When I attempt those fast exercises near the end my vowels sound like one continuous sound as opposed to separate notes like when you demonstrate it. I also sound very weak and breathy in the upper register, even though it's not higher pitched than your other videos. What do you think I should do? Focus on your agility videos? Again, thank you for your wonderful content
Take it slow and focus on the videos that emphasize thyroarytenoid dominant singing. Any video that doesn't have 'extended range' or 'full range' in the title would be my suggestion. This video is really advanced, and if you're breathy above the secondo passaggio, it's likely that that transition isn't developed enough for these practices.
Keep at it!
Jeff
@@JeffRolka Thank you very much, I'll follow your advice
Hola Jeff¡ Gran profesor¡
Great video!
Thanks!
Jeff, I discovered your videos during the pandemic and they are now a daily routine for me. I was a voice major in college but have had bad practicing habits, despite being a professional singer, since then. Your coaching and videos have transformed my singing. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for the super thanks! I appreciate it!
Jeff
Right on! Glad to be here to offer the help that I can! Keep going and enjoy the channel!
Jeff
Thank you...
You're welcome!
Jeff
Hey This videos can be used for popular Music ?
Absolutely. That's my primary focus!
Jeff
Jeff Rolka thanks you Jeff Rolka !!! Everyday i use your lessons before practice any song !!!! Thanks you !!!!
Big fan of your videos, especially your baritone warmups! For this extended range video, what do the notes range from lowest to highest? In other words, do we go as low as G2 or as high as A4 in this particular warmup? I don't play piano so it's hard for me to tell just by ear.
Thank you for your kind words and thank you for watching! Great question which I must admit, gives me a thought! My 'extended range' videos only focus on the higher notes! The low end probably goes no longer than g2 as you have suspected. Generally they don't really spend all that much time down there. I will address this in the next generation of these!
Thank you for bringing this to my attention!
Jeff
@@JeffRolka Thanks for the response! I'm a baritone, but I have a very hard time singing any lower than A2 with any consistency so I don't mind drills like this that focus on the higher notes. Do you happen to know how high this particular warmup goes? For example, when you mean above the segundo passagio for baritones, do you mean above like E4?
You are awesome! Thank you!
Hello Singy! Thanks! I really appreciate that! Always appreciate your input at the live events too!
Best,
Jeff
Jeff Rolka I think you are the best on UA-cam for singing help. Amazing how many singing exercises you have on your channel! Need to post questions earlier cause the chat gets bombarded quick.
Could you updoad all these Warm Up videos for basses? Wished to train my voice a bit more ^^
Lend me your power Jeff!!
In the extended range parts I need to switch to head voice - is that expected for this exercise? It seems very high for a baritone chest voice!
I advocate for making smooth registration events - so yes, this video transits the baritone secondo passaggio as well as the tertiary passaggio.
Best,
Jeff
A year ago I was using the tenors
Hi Jeff! I can do all the baritone warmups including this one, which would you recommend to do daily?
Great question! The one that most conforms to the requirements of the repertoire you're singing in terms of tessitura and style. By style I mean, if you have a lot of staccato notes in your repertoire, then choosing a warm up with lots of staccato practice would be great! They're all here. If they're not, tell me and I'll make it!
Best,
Jeff
ok! slayt me with the scarf FASHUN!!!
Good day Jeff! My name is Aman from Almaty (Kazakhstan), I bought 6 lessons for baritone. Before that, I took 3 three basic lesson free. At the moment, little given voltage to the ligaments and now I have a break. Jeff, I want to ask, please, make a systematic sequence of lessons paid and free from interruptions. By myself I feel that effective lessons, but so as not to strain the ligaments, I need lessons in the correct sequence and intervals.
Good day to you too! Thank you for your recommendation. I am doing just that and will have the systematic practice ready around the middle of this year if not sooner. If you are already on my mailing list at www.jeffrolka.com you will hear all about it when it is ready. If not, consider signing up!
Thank you again!
All the best!
Jeff
Geez I can never seem to get the 1-5-1-9-1 exercise right. I can do it when I slow it down to 75% but never at 100%. With time I guess it’ll come?
Yes. I should think so. The speed is an aspect of the balance of your vocal folds and airflow. The better the balance, the faster you can go. Experiment, perhaps, with your lateral expansion and see if that helps!
Best!
Jeff
I somehow cannot vibrate my lips long enough like you did starting from 6:45. I tried but it keep stopped halfway.
I'm sorry I missed your comment and it's taken me so long to reply. It ended up in the spam folder because of the link. If the lips won't stay vibrating take a look at how engaged you're remaining through the exercise. Try to keep your ribs open and abs engaged.
Best,
Jeff
Do you have a facebook page so that I can share your account to my baritone friends? Thank you
I do, but I don't use it and it hasn't been updated in two years. Best to send them to my UA-cam channel homepage, or even baritone playlist:
ua-cam.com/play/PL2mQP7sE6PHi79SBAYXfILPTxop03CV2J.html
Jeff
@@JeffRolka thank you jeff shall be posting this then have a good day
QUESTION... for the exercise that ends around 9:20, is it ok to use falsetto once I've reached my limit?
It's better to try your best to flip to Head Voice.
@@hillmiss1736 Same thing isn't it?
Is it normal to feel the voice "tired" after the exercises?
Sometimes, but hopefully not sore. If you're feeling scratchy I would recommend evaluating your vowel formation and vocal fold engagement. Airflow may also need some consideration as well.
Best,
Jeff
Thank you so much!
I do like my baritone voice but I'd really like to work on my vibrato with it. I have a sort of Bob Crosby kinda vibrato but I can't seem to accomplish it with some vowels. I've been taking notes and singing them up and down a scale, not as legato but as single notes. Is that the best way to strengthen vibrato? Some days my vibrato is rally great but only if I sing whilst distracted which is weird lol.
loved it!!!
Awesome! Thank you! I want to do more of these videos!
Best,
Jeff
Thank you so much Jeff! These have been awesome. What is the lowest note and the highest note we sing in this video?
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Best!
Jeff
Jeff Rolka ... thank you your reply but what is the high note and low note on this warm up
