    I've found that the more I you work on Eddie's song's the more I realize that I'm on the right track with my own style and method. Not saying I'm even remotely on Eddie's level, just that I just start noodling with no pressure like some of the videos of Eddie in the studio and a riff will start and I'm off to the races. My music is etched with many influences from my teen years. I'm self taught but was always stifled at my limited ability when I was a teenager. Now at 53 going on 54 and writhing (with my phone and Presonus program as I can't read or actually write music) my own music for the last 6yrs. I truly appreciate your abilities and can't wait to see more !! Inspiration can come from anyone, not just Rock Gods !! Thanks for the kick in the ass !!

      Yea, the way you find your own sound is to play lots of different stuff. For me, it really comes down to Eddie, Satch, Schon, and Tabor. I played so much of their stuff when I was younger. Thanks again for the kind words!

    Amazing job, the rig sounds great! Definitely a tough one with that bizarre galloping beat. I think Eddie really changed his sound during this era to be able to do more in the studio. So much of the brown sound was based around playing live, but by the time he had a home studio, I think he wanted to hear more guitar parts on a track and not do as many one-pass singletracks. That kind of increased production effort doesn't lend itself well to a fire-breathing high-gain approach, and I think the result is this much smoother sound we got. He also played on the neck pickup a LOT more once he got the EBMM in his quiver, and I think that sound doesn't play nicely with the '78 Plexi thing, necessarily.

      Thanks a ton! That gallop with the chords ringing out simultaneously is difficult. I think the sound change was definitely Eddie looking for a warmer sound on the albums. The fact that he did not like the VH I sound is quite telling to me. The sound that most everyone loved and defined as the "Brown Sound" was something that he did not like. I personally think 1984 is by far his best tone.

    I loved this album, but this song in particular was my favorite for a long time. I don't know why. Reminds me of "Little Guitars" a bit, too.

    Whew! Man, have to admit this wasn't one of my favorite VH songs...guess I didn't listen close enough. Had no idea how technical it was. Fun rediscovering this one. Excellent work, thank you!

    Awesome to hear this gem. For me, this is the Ed unleashed song off Carnal Knowledge. One of those “break from the norm” hard pop songs on the Hagar albums. “5150” on 5150, “AFU” on OU812, “Amsterdam” and “Aftershock” on Balance. Thanks for keeping the memories alive 🤘🏼

      @TheRetroGuitarist  9 місяців тому

      Yea, I purchased that Warmoth neck back in 92, I think... That thing is the BEST playing neck I have ever played hands down. I got rid of the stock Ibanez neck, put a satin finish on it, then bolted it on and crosses my fingers. Got really lucky. Trip-a-let! I love it!

    Oh man am I looking forward to hear this one.
    You're covering the material from Live Right Here Right Now and F.U.C.K. man !
    I love Roth Van Halen but man, to me the songs on F.U.C.K. really rock, very happy you are covering them.

      This song... made me want to break the guitar. Seriously this is a VERY difficult song to play. I think it might be the most difficult VH song.

      @@TheRetroGuitarist I'll pretend I didn't read that, it's on my "to learn" list !
      If you wanna cover In N Out, I'd be happy to hear it ! Love the riff, and I love the way Sammy comes back into the chorus with his screaming after the build up and silence. Coming back in with the screaming man, that is ballsy.

    Awesome job, and such a hard tune. When this album came out this was my favorite tune off of it immediately. Probably one of the most complex tunes in the Van Hagar era. I always thought I heard Ed playing this on the neck pick up on his EBMM EVH & that was some of the tone. Thanks for sharing & again great playing as always!!

    • @TheRetroGuitarist
      @TheRetroGuitarist  9 місяців тому +1

      Yea, I think the two most difficult VH songs to play are Girl Gone Bad and this one. The early stuff is great but mostly Eddie running up and down the neck. This stuff is has nuance which to me is much more difficult that the earlier VH. Thanks for the comment Mike!

    One of my favorite tunes on that record. That and "Spanked". Of course "Judgment Day" is a killer one too. I never liked the drum sound on that record thou. What about you? I think Al was going for a more boomy John Bonham tonality. Nonetheless, you rocked this one again dude. Talk about nasty, Ed is so tasteful and that's such a provocative and sexy solo. I love F sharp. Hell ya man. Keep on rocking!

      Yea, I think it is my fav on the album. This could have been on any VH album and been good. I agree with the drum sound on this album. I really don't like it either, although on this song it sound great. F# is a great key to play in.

    Never seen a strat type neck on Ibby body. Is the body a square heel pocket or is the neck heel shaped like the Ibanez AANJ's ?? I'd love to see how they fit together at the heel.

    • @TheRetroGuitarist
      @TheRetroGuitarist  9 місяців тому +1

      I did that back in 92 I think... Not sure about the pocket shape since I haven't taken it off since installing it. I do remember that the neck was too thin, height wise where it bolted on so I put a metal plate between the neck and the body. Thing sounds and play like a dream!

    I hope you make a version with no vocals as you usually do !
    Sammy's contribution here is entirely useless.
    Best version by far is the Live Right Here Right Now with Humbuckers and the creamy distortion sound.
    Still, curious to hear your studio rendition without Sammy wailing nonsense over it.
