I did make sure and support hand was NOT touching slide, slide release, or the mag. No limp-wrist or weird shooting methods. Made no difference. Having an issue about every mag. Also, these issues are not completely the same as the ones before (some the same) with the same mags. ALSO, lots of great comments on things that fixed others like different mags, springs, parts, etc. MY thought is it should come good to go! Ready to fire WITHOUT having to do anything. There are always going to guns that have issues but it's very different if this is a consistent thing and somewhat expected. E.g. if it's a mag or mag spring issue, IT SHOULD COME WITH THE RIGHT MAG/SPRING. KelTec does this a lot with several guns, why I am not a fan. When a gun is sent in, it should come back running flawlessly. It only took one mag to have an issue. Don't know how it's possible they used the same gun with the same mags and didn't have an issue with 100 rds. That is just my opinion and yes, you can find affordable and quality in the same gun. That is what I am always on the look for.

Hey Drew, I feel your frustration. Usually it comes down to magazine problems, and sometimes the function of it depends on how the magazine interfaces with the bolt, breech, and lockup. Glad you're giving them a second chance (or a third chance).
I would love to hear more updates on this one!

My Night Statlker was doing the same things. FTF, FTE FTRTB. Turns out the extractor was too tight. Finally I fixed it by tweaking the extractor slightly away from the slide face. Easy to do. Lots of videos on how to tweak the extractor.

I always do a 100 rounds to test a pistol when I buy them. I have fired that test with 4 Tisas (9MM Duty, 9MM Duty DS, US Army .45 and Carry .45). They only one I had issues with was the 9MM Duty. After going through the normal main issues (Mags, Ammo and extractor), I checked my grip. It was me. Not sure what is going on for you, but I love Tisas. I really want the 9MM Carry DS.

I just received my Tisas WWII style pistol last week. The first mag I fired was a Wilson mag, and on the last round, the slide locked back, and one round remained loose sitting on top of the mag. Weird malfunction. The rest of the mags functioned without problems. I noticed that the two mags that I received with the pistol have the same parkerization, and are marked mec-gar. Mec-gar is a great company, so I expect no problems from those mags. I usually give the guns a few mags up front to clear out any gliches, because all the independent parts have to work through issues such as coatings and wear issues, possible lack of lubricant.

You can’t count the ammo expended in the total cost! You’d shot thru that anyway if you like to boom boom.😊 I have the same gun and a MAC JSOC and they are both flawless with one of the two mags shipped with it. So it’s 50/50 for their mags. I run Wilson anyway so it;s not an issue for me.

  • @curly__3

You don't need to shoot it 500 times, just work the slide a whole bunch while slightly torquing it in different directions to burnish all the slide mating surfaces, however the tisas should not need that, as they use a machining process where they harden the steel before they machine them which leaves almost no burrs or chatter. The othwr break in is the recoil spring...very simple, just leave the gun with the slide locked back over night for a couple days. The mags they send need the 8 dollar wilson combat mag spring and follower kit installed then those need a slight break in ( load and unload them a few times and then leave them loaded overnight) and you should have basically zero problems after that. The steel the tisas guns are made from and the quality of machining is what makes them a good deal, plus the titanium firing pin and some other good parts they put on them. 1911's need to be 'tuned' unless you're buying something over a grand. Just the way they are. Even so, the 1911 is still the best gun design ever imo...

@curly_3 I struggle with a RIA 1911 A2 FC HC 10mm that is doing the same thing as the Tisas. Mainly failure to feed and cases on ejection hit the slide and scratch the finish off. I'm using RIA factory mags and have well beyond 500 rds through the gun now. I'll try your tips. Do you have an idea what causes the cases to scratch the slide on ejection?

My brand new Springfield TRP 4.25” 1911 had FTF issues with every mag. Sent it right back to customer service. They re-cut and polished the chamber and now it runs without issue. I’ve owned Colt, RIA, Sig and Ruger 1911’s over the years, and none gave me any problems. No one likes having to send a new gun back, that’s for sure. Hopefully third time’s the charm.

I love mine so much I bought two more cause the price was right. I had two failiure to feeds in the second box of 50 and I discovered my left thumb was riding the slide. I totaled 150 rds without further issues. That was federal red box 230 ball. I changed the spring to a 20lbs wilson combat along with a buffer and dumped 50 rds of buffalo bore 255g, with out issue. Now, I did originally buy 8 round wilson combat mages for all 3 guns, I have not used the ones that came with it except for about the first 20 rds. no obvious issues in those 20 rds. I now have about 250 through it and agree with you about break in periods.

I shot an tisas ai army 1911. shot a little under 200 rounds, BEAUTIFUL! I shot just under 14 hollow point it missed on those only. Some seasoned 1911 shooters said try Wilson combat. They say usually on a newer 1911 5:31 it's the magazine or feed ramp, not break in.
I absolutely like this gun it is near perfect.
I've seen where some have had feed, slide and thumb safety issues with new colts and other top brands. To me this gun shouldn't be called a budget gun but a very good accurate tight fitting 1911period!!

I struggle with a RIA1911 A2 FC HC 10mm doing the same thing. Love that gun to pieces but cannot get 100 rds through it with at least a couple of failures to feed. I am using factory ds mags. Cleaned and lightly oiled the mags and feel like that helped a bunch. Ill leave the mags fully loaded for a couple of days and to soften the recoil spring, keep the gun in slide stop locked position as some commenters suggested. Lets hope that helps tune the mechanics. The gun also throws the brass on ejection against the slide causing the finish to scratch off. Any idea what might be causing this?

Ask Tisas what pound recoil spring is in that model 16 or 18.5, the ammunition you showed is roughly 800 fps not modern full power 45 auto. Buy at least one GOOD magazine before constantly saying the gun is at fault. People constantly send a gun back and get it returned with a note saying it works great only to find out the OEM uses their own magazines when testing a warranty complaint. Fo you know the OAL of those cartridges? Do you know what OAL cartridges the 1911 was designed to feed?

Agreed.....this one looks like a clunker. I have a Tisas 1911A1 US Army and though I only have about 400 rounds through it, of several brands, hollow points and FMJs, it has been flawless, and without a break in period. This is using the Mec-gar mags it came with. I see too many people have zero problems with these guns to not believe yours is a clunker. There could be a stack up of tolerance issue. Who knows without being able to lay-out each part and compare to Engineering drawings. Don't let this one sway you from the brand though. The clunkers are few and far between from what I have seen among videos on here, and reviews all over the internet.

I got the same pistol, got it and 500 rounds of winchester white box for $535.00. I'm not sure which I got a deal on. Fortunately the pistol has only had 2 failures feed in the first 300, and some change rounds. The biggest complaint I have on the pistol is the safety . It's not as positive as it should be. Thanks for your video!

    • @curly__3

Put a ≈$5 wolfe safety pin spring in. Watch youtube for instructions. That might stiffen the safety up a bit. There is also a way to file a very slight notch in the saftey lever where the safety pin sits. Both can be found on UA-cam.

    • @intoeverything2023

@curly__3 thanks for the tip. It's not a huge deal for me as i got it at a deal, and
Just shoot it for fun. If I decide to keep it I'll definitely upgrade it somewhat. First thing will be "fixing" the safety. Next thing would be an extended beaver tail. I didn't mention it as a negative, but it has "bit" me a time or ten.

1911s need a break in period. It is what it is. We can complain and say that new pistols shouldn’t need a break in, we can get upset about it and talk crap about the pistol. But at the end of the day, once you break it in, your 1911 will work fine. Like it or not… By the way, the problem with your 1911 is bad extractor tension.

I have never heard why 1911 Magazines are problematic. With that said it seems normal to have magazine issues. The common solution is to buy premium magazines. I don’t find that to be a solution for why they cant work ? It is not like making these is something new or proprietary anymore.

Several years ago, I bought a Tisas 1911 "commander" in 45ACP and I also was told first run 500 rounds through it for break in, its the magazines, then use only a specific type of ammo, then send it in for repair several times and it never worked. 1000+ rounds later and even with good quality mags I purchased from Chip McCormick, it was never reliable. Based upon my sample size of one, my opinion is Tisas produces junk. In addition to the failure to ever run reliably, the slide appeared to not be heat treated correctly and the slide was slowly destroying itself, not with any type of "hot " ammo, it was with good old Winchester White box that all of my other 1911's eat without a problem. My opinion is NEVER BUY Tisas.
