Hey guys thanks for watching! Please wishlist my little flying squirrel game on steam: store.steampowered.com/app/1877560/Walter_Walnut/ Like I said in the video this is a side project that took longer than expected and I'll go back to the shooter game afterwards :)
Please add workshop support it would be really cool to have extra islands by the community also I think an option for the pixel shader could look really nice
Hey Codeer, I dont know if youll see this comment, but I just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to make video gaming. It's always been a bit of a dream of mine to make a game, and you always make it seem so easy. I hope your doing well, wherever you are in life. Just know that when you come back, you'll still have a loyal fan base ready and waiting!
glad to hear of you again! the game kind of gives me a little nostalgia about a squirrel survival game on phone i used to love playing ages ago :) game itself seems really awesome, defenitely gonna wishlist it! my personal ideas for possible improvements: - more fleshed out combat; dodging, blocking, quick/weak- and slow/strong attacks etc. - tiny friendly AI/NPCs such as small birds that wouldnt do much but make the world feel more alive so hostiles arent the only thing capable of moving - temporary buffs (faster flight for example,) you could find in maps, which would be needed to get through certain areas that might give some extra rewards for more challenge - lots of different biomes, such as swamps, underwater oceans, deep forests (like redwood forests), snowy mountains and so forth hope this helps for some inspiration ^^
Thank you for the wishlist and the comprensive feedback! Awesome ideas, I agree the combat can use some variation, I didn't show it in the video but there's ability chests that can unlock new moves so I'll try and put a dash and maybe another attack in those! There's also some small crabs that don't really do anything but flee from the player so that's similar to your suggestion. The buffs also sound really nice and I'll try to keep the biomes varied :)
I thought him carrying the package on his hand while gliding looked a bit weird. What if he wore it as a backpack instead? For gliding maybe. Then maybe he uses the package as well to whack around enemies for a melee attack
I just started learning gamedev 2 months ago currently making a 3d flappy bird clone, and my dream game is inspired by “weird shooter game” I really loved the art style and the procedural and robotic animations. I just had a big hit of nostalgia when I realized you will probably never come back. I just want to thank you for making me believe in myself and inspiring me to start my gamedev journey. If you ever come back I will definitely support you and give you credit in my game. I really hope you come back.
Really loving this game's art style, great job making a complete game so fast! It's already in much better shape than some early access games I've seen on Steam.. wishlisted :)
You have no idea how much I missed your content! I was about to watch the "weird shooter game" playlist for the 100th time (obviously exaggerated but still) Great to see you back :) I guess the best thing of having multiple games is that, the possibility of carrying over experience and stuff you've made from one game to another, good call, this game is looking really good as well.
Man, when you look at this game and then the strange shooter, you can totally see what your style is like. I absolutely love it! Keep up the good work. 👍
Love the style of the game! Currently I'm also working on a bigger project, and it was really inspiring to watch your progress with this game so far :)
The game looks great! The character design mixed with the cartoon effect really makes the game pop. I especially like the design of King Walnut! I usually put off audio until the end of a project too, I still haven't found a good way to do it. I love how you change the music while the character glides, definitely adds a ton to the game! Can't wait to see more!
this game looks so much fun!! i hope you can finish and release it sometime soon, i cant wait to play it !! i even think it would be cool to expand it into an even larger game, even if that’s like post-launch additions or working simultaneously/alternating with your main project :)
Waiting for this devlog was totally worth it! I love how this game is a mix of platforming, enemy fights, and perhaps some puzzles! I was also thinking maybe you could add nuts that give you special abilities or heal you!
COOOOOOOOODDDDDDEEEEERRRRRRR. Yay my boi is back, I’m so glad to here you’ve been working on the shooting game, and this looks very fun, I’m glad your back, keep up the good work
You can introduce the gliding mechanic in the shooter game as well(if it doesn't turn into scope creep), I always assumed there will be more transformations to the player like the climbing spider thing, so it can be a similar gliding alien-bug transformation.
- Ground Terrain enemies, spiked turtle and the only way to damaged them is by getting behind them and attack. - Can you stop mid air? you can add a attack animation like a falling punch you can only use while gliding. - Temple map with dungeon trap. - Secret area.
There are already some suggestions in the comments, but one I thought about is the jumping animation, the main thing about it is that, when characters jump, their arms and legs go with the movement, specially the arm,. In the current animation I felt the arms a little stiff, if you gave them a simple up and down movement when jumping and falling, it would make the animation even more fluid. Again, this is just a suggestion, there is always the possibility that if you implement what I said it doesnt work with the style!
Looks amazing. Has a lot of A Short Hike vibes. And it's good that you took a break, switched gears and focused one releasing a game on Steam, wishlisted!
Very well made devlog, I got some great insights about your workflow which is really helpful for a newbie gamedev. And the game itself is amazing - super cute, nice style, looks well made. I can't believe this is a "side project". You got a sub and a wishlist from me!
Looks cool! The Squirrel looks a bit out of place in the tropical islands though. It would be pretty neat to have some forest area where there's some low-key parcours (running up trees and jumping from branch to branch). Keep up the good work!
Its so amazing to see you back whit a new amazing project. Having you be gone for half a year was sad and I was afraid you were never going to upload but here you are. Thanks for making these devlogs on your projects they really cheer me up. ^^
with your robot game I think another way to add story is to add notes around the map. These notes can give details about the story. You should also add an (optinal ending) to the game. I know a good name for the weird shooter also. I think viranum would be a good game. But idk what it would mean.
Hey! Love your videos, I know the amount of time to make these games is staggering on top of getting footage summary and writing editing footage of you making each step so just massive respect, hope to see a something from you again soon
Amazing how all these small developers so casually say “after a couple hours” for only a tiny part of the game. I just don’t think I could sit and work on one tiny thing. Very impressive
It took him a month+. He originally planned on doing it in 2 weeks but some setbacks and little details (like graphic settings) he wouldn’t normally develop in a game jam lead him to double+ development time
Ayyyooo, I saw your posts on Reddit and didn't even realize that it was you posting about it :D Looking back, I can definitely see you "handprints" on the animations... ^^
This looks so fun! I like the idea of taking a break from your larger project to focus on a smaller game as your first release. Def going to be following along for this one too 🥰
I think instead of grappling, a cool secondary mechanic could be wall climbing, I know that's a big part of your other game, but it is a squirrel, and it would fit
Hey guys thanks for watching! Please wishlist my little flying squirrel game on steam: store.steampowered.com/app/1877560/Walter_Walnut/

I thought him carrying the package on his hand while gliding looked a bit weird. What if he wore it as a backpack instead? For gliding maybe. Then maybe he uses the package as well to whack around enemies for a melee attack
“It’s a bird!”
“It’s a plane!”
“No, it’s a squirrel with gigantic bulging eyes shooting nuts!”
I wonder how @Codeer is doing, i hope your doing good, I cant wait for the next dev log on your shooter game
The game turned out great! Really impressive work :)
Seeing a devlog for a game from start to finish is a nice change of pace - the wait was worth it!

Yeah definitely! I was thinking the same it would be cool to climb and then glide down :)
@@Codeer Because the character has stretchy legs, maybe they could turn into a helicopter rotor?
Please don’t put this idea too far on the backburner. It could be a relative steep glide, or one with a stamina.

- Ground Terrain enemies, spiked turtle and the only way to damaged them is by getting behind them and attack.
- Can you stop mid air? you can add a attack animation like a falling punch you can only use while gliding.
- Temple map with dungeon trap.
- Secret area.
