- For the first few episodes of The Penguin, Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell) may have seemed actually quite a sympathetic figure in a weird way - but if that image hasn't come crumbling down already, it absolutely will have in episode 7.

One flashback shows Oz playing hide and seek with his brothers in the tunnels underneath Gotham as the rain comes pouring in. Oz struggles to climb down a ladder to reach his brothers and, enraged, he pushes shut a heavy metal door, locking them into the overflow tunnel beneath the city.
Reflecting on that disturbing revelation, actor Farrell told us "That's the cornerstone around which everything is built, the rest of his life.

This man deserves an Emmy. If he doesn’t, then the Emmy’s are a joke. That bench scene alone seals it for me.
4-5-6 we're the only exceptionally interesting episodes and the first three episodes set them up right, last episodes quite predictable, messy and boring like the writers wanted to wrap it up fast. So no emmy.
@@jeegupopli1871it was not predictable, they still made choices that we thought wouldn't happen. So there is still a chance. The only mediocre episode was episode 7
@@jeegupopli1871 ok calm down scorsese

So did Damson Idris for Snowfall. The Emmys became a joke then
That season finale is incredible! What a show.
Loved it! They nailed that ending for sure 👍
Is it series finale too…? 😭
@@Dr_Sweet yes.. it will be movie after this, Batman 2 sadly. But yeah i would like to have the season 2 but it wont happen

hahahah best comment
He did his ma proud
Go dodgers!
I refuse to believe this handsome fella plays as that ugly monster
And that is why the show cemented itself as the best show of 2024
Yeah he really disappeared into this role. Incredible.
That means the show has an amazing makeup team and Colin is an amazing actor
What makes it worse is the ugliest version is on the inside of the penguin. His aesthetic is 100x more handsome than his soul.
I absolutely love how Colin always gives dues to all the other amazing people involved in this show. It'd be so easy for him to take all the credit for the incredible character he's embodied, but he always communicates his gratitude to others. That's so great to see.
Its time people let go of nostalgia and admit Colin is the BEST live action Penguin
Oh he definitely is!
Of course but there hasnt been very many so quite a low bar that he has raised sky high. He is the Heath Ledger of the Penguin character.
People say about the 'kick the dog' moment that defines a villain. The last episode of Penguin featured such a scene: kicking a dog, dousing it in gasoline, setting it on fire, desecrating the charred corpse and then devouring it."
After that scene at park, it got worse and worse and worse. I felt awful and was totally engrossed. Amazing storytelling.
I needed a shower after the final episode. I felt dirty for even rooting for him at some point...😢
The Penguin is a breath of fresh air! Really deep character development and no boring or predictable elements that plague the superhero genre these days. Colin and Matt set the bar so high🙌🏻
everything was not the norm which is amazing
It's refreshing to see a Villain that isn't complex or nuanced or an Anti-Hero. His just a straight up evil dude making excuses to justify his actions.
Bro we get Shogun, The Penguin, now Arcane.
What's Arcane?

Lot of respect for going above and beyond traditional acting. I love that he is super happy and thankful to all the production team and the fans. I am bummed that the role pushed him to the point of not wanting to do another series, but I am so happy with what we did get (and what we will get in the upcoming Batman).
Takes a lot to get yourself ready for a role like this but Farrell is the ultimate chameleon!
I’m sure they’ll figure out how to simplify the make up process with each instalment without losing quality.
Loved and hated this series because was genius. Spent me emotionally. Ending just horrified me and somehow should've expected it but, I didn't. Don't want to spoil it for anyone else but, you end up loving OZ then you are shocked knowing that you shouldn't be. Great series HBO thank you so much.
Show had to remind people that the protagonist isn’t a hero
@@richforeverleaks3114it really did. I was starting to see the penguin as a villain with redeemable qualities but with what he did in the end it showed me that he truly is evil, he truly is a bad guy and he’s not going to change. This is who he is and he’ll never live a life away from crime.
I once believed that there was a love story, a redemption arc, a glimpse of humanity. Then BAM, it never shows.
amazing ending to an amazing series. The Batman is out there!
The penguin character has not only mastered the art of manipulation with all the other characters in the series but also the audience watching him. Amazing show and performances!
3:47 Penguin slipped out for a second there
3:29 you could say that Matt's the wizard... of Oz
Colin Farrel with his acting brilliance just made The Penguin an Iconic and twisted Character. He is now a Batman Level Threat.
He gave a Heath-level performance
Perfect way of putting it. No one has wowed me that much and been so unrecognizable in a role.
Could you imagine what a movie with both of them in would have been like.
Almost every actor with a speaking roll nailed it in this show. The kid that played young Oz Cobb was great!
Please continue playing the character!!!
Colin has signed for 3 Batman movies.
@@Spiel-Film Thank Gods!
Show is so well written and made. At the end we really know the villain.
One of the best of 2024!
@@radiotimes i like the whole arc makes penguin look like an anti hero and slowly painting the true picture. It does it so well that you really dont know what to do mid season until they complete it and you really know that he is the bad one and the final episode really lets you finish with no doubt and it was smart that way. The final conclusion was short, definitive, cruel and it was the end of the episode and season so there was no room for hope.
Penguin is always nice, soft spoken, humble, kind and very down to earth of a person. All the fans appreciate this character a lot.
Slight spoilers:
I LOVE that they really leaned into Oz being the villain in the last episode. You definitely root for him the whole season, but I’m really glad that they didn’t redeem the character or make him an antihero. You find yourself sympathizing with him, but you really see how twisted he is, especially during the very last scene.
There have been so many movies put out by Sony trying to redeem random spider man villains, but this show is something else.
Yeah it's a bit meta too. Because Oz manages to manipulate the audience. He really feels genuine when talking to Vic and his mom. And I always fell for his gaslighting. That's so genius.
@ I fell for it too. Even in the early episodes when he was building trust with Sofia when he had just killed her brother the night before.
Phenomenal story telling, phenomenal acting. It was a proper emotional roller coaster. Well done and the fans sincerest thanks to all involved 👏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it, Michael!
The first tv show I think deserves an academic award
The penguin saved modern tv show for me.
I love that Collin is ALWAYS so present in his interviews. He is so generous sharing his thoughts, experience.. so much to learn and admire.
I can’t wait for Batman to make Oz squeal
For Vic 😢
This show was FANTASTICALLY done
No doubt Emmy goes to Farrell.
His way of saying "Ma" deserve separate Emmy.
give collin and christin ALL the awards!
Monumental performance. I not only forgot it was Colin, I forgot I was watching an actor, period. Nuanced, layered, complex, contradictory and so very real.
Thank u Matt Reeves!!! 🦇
You know it's an award winning performance when you end up sympathizing with and hating the character, at the same time.
I hope they leave it alone. It was just perfect.
fantastic interview!! the woman did her homework! stellar stuff!!
this is one of those type of perfect shows that only comes around every once and a while
perfect cast
perfect acting
perfect story
I think he and Cristin should both receive Emmys for this show. Just fantastic acting.
It was a masterpiece.
Absolutely superb all round. Really brilliant sequel to the film and deserves to be recognised with awards. Cristin Milioti was also absolutely fantastic
I was never a big fan of Collin Farrell always thought he was ok in his roles but after watching his portrayal of The Penguin in The Batman he got my Intrest then when I heard about the show I was quite excited and WOW this guy Is absolutely unbelievable in this role, the show was fantastic.
Colon was solid to his craft for almost three decades. What he did in The Penguin, overshadows everything he did before. Oz is the villain Gotham needs.
Colin and Anthony star are the best villains of 2024
Isn't Anthony Starr the superman of that Boys show? (In other words the hero?)

Just watched the finale. Wow! So dark, yet beautifully done.
Collin will be iconic with Penguin like Joanquin with Joker 1
so excited for what they are cooking in this reevse-verse 🔥
Just finished watching the final chapter! just wow incredible series! Colin Farrell has transformed into a phenomenal actor indeed!
That finale changed everything. I am still shook.
People don't know this, but he played young Oz as well!
lol
If you told me the guy from SWAT would one day play this unrecognizable rendition of the Penguin, I wouldn't believe it for a second. He disappeared and embodied the character of Oz.
Imagine him accepting the Emmy in character. That would be iconic
He was absolutely incredible..such a handsome sexy man to play such a different character including the persona, the darkness even the accent.unbelieveavle
Just in awe of his performance!
As a Dubliner meself ☘️ really proud of Colin amazing 🐧 and show I knew it would be he deserves every award going!
Actually insane he plays Oz, I genuinely see them as different people
This is a phenomenal show. Where i messed up was not watching The Batman first. I watched it three episodes in and absolutely loved and understood more. I hope we all see more of The Penguin it's strong enough for a full featured length film outside of The Batman.
Best series I’ve seen in a long time 10/10 brilliant
Who's this actor? That's not Oswalt Cobb
He plays Oswald Cobb in "Penguin". You didn't recognise him because for his character he put on Body suit and heavy prosthetics makeup on the face. His name is Colin Farrel

Colin Farrell is awesome, he has come a long way and had quite the longstanding and interesting career. I still go back and watch the scene from True Detective where he bullies his son's bully lol
lol he always fell short to me bc he was really poppin at the time all those cop/crooked cop films released and on top of that he was in daredevil 😂 but this show really showed his potential that I haven’t seen which is amazing props to him. Managed to capture me even with all the makeup
@YomamaYodaddyYobjtchassGranny I think he is definitely a much improved actor from back when he first started in Minority Report or that Daredevil role you mentioned. He also gets credit for trying some different things in the roles and movies he has taken, some of them low budget indie films. Check out the movie In Bruges.
3:48 the oz laughter lol
his performance def is up there with heath without a doubt
I agree. Colin was so amazing. He completely disappeared into the performance. Penguin had a lot of nuances and layers to his character.
I think this series and character is done now. We should have a mini series on a minor villain appearing in Batman 2 to tide us over between second and third film.
Maybe for Black Mask or a Mr Zasz show?
I love how they make you feel foolish for thinking there’s anything redeeming about Penguin. Victor is like a vessel for the audience in the moment… SPOILERS
he’s killed.
My dad had a saying, "If all men are created equal, then why do they need to do so many tests when we're born?"
That has resonated well with me through the years.
While we might be, ostensibly, born 'equal' (although, considering genetics and family history, which doctors always collect for a reason), we are never 'equal'. So many details exist prior to our conception, that determine where we start from, what extra obstacles we will face, and more.
I think it's great he kind of says that, but also... kinda dodges it as well? It's more admittance than most media is willing to face.
His "tease" of The Batman sequel: "Haven't read it yet"
Man colin absolutely killed this
Been a long time since I felt genuinely disgusted by a character.
I was worried that the show would make me care too much for Oz. It really did trick me into thinking he was more nuanced and sympathetic. I felt the connection between him and Vic.
Oz manipulated me like he does with all the characters.
He's pure evil, selfish and gross. And I love that. I love villains you just hate.
This show is so great. Banger after banger episode
that ending....
Right
The make-up and his acting is so great, I forget that he is the one playing Os.
In my opinion Colin Ferrel and Heath Ledger have the best dc villain portrayals (maybe even comic villains in general) of all time.
He deserves awards
Best comic TV show I've ever seen. Hands down.
Shout out to Lauren LeFranc the showrunner like Colin is talking about early on for wanting to just show an evil character even going as far as displaying that he had that in him even as a child. Appreciate the whole cast for this show.
Dr .Fate in dcu ... Imagine
The makeup artist on this show has to be a which i legit did not know that was him 😳
Loved the series
why are portions repeated?
That role was for him 😮
The Batman sequel will has a Joker, and Penguin, and Sofia... in one movie...I’m really curious how will they manage that
Great show!

This show was awesome!
It was. We are so glad you also enjoyed it!

I’m more like: Why would someone have such a negative reaction to someone simply telling them “Good morning man”?
"Planet of the Apes" and "The Batman" - Matt Reeves is a master at turning what could be very hokey fluff into compelling stuff. Can't wait for his gritty reboot of "He-Man".
There will be a blank cheque for season 2
Seems like Oz is Rex’s son..
I like how they lean into the comic books sometimes, penguin isn't a regular man, vic should have been able to fight back and escape, penguin is an old fat guy whos never worked with his hands, he should be pretty weak, but it's a comic book story and he's a villian!
I loved the series but not another season. It was too rough and the finale was too much. Colin better get an Emmy.
Colin Colin Colin, amazing well done sir
He is to Penguin what Ledger was to Joker.
My absolute favorite series of 2024! How hard it is to have this level of quality instead of RoP? Or Disney Marvel shyte series? Or Disney Star Wars Shyte Acolyte or the Mandalorian? The answer is simple: it requires commitment, accountability and vision! No DEI, identity Politics or Wokeness! Just Shear ferocity to do something this amazing! Many of us thought that at some point the series will drift into nothingness and girl boss ideas! NOPE! Didn’t happen! The whole crew was amazing. Christin Millioti and Colin Farrel are Top Notch!!!!!
Did everyone see the homage to Burgess Meredith? Burgess jewellery store. For you millennials, Burgess Meredith was the original penguin in the sixties Batman tv series.
Independientemente de como haya sido el final, el pingüino es un villano y punto, jamas la serie puede tener un final feliz o final de Disney
Ive got a Emmy, Ma
Who’s gonna tell this channel the Batman part 2 doesn’t come out til 2026?
