    As a casual viewer of the batman movies I never understood why he was one of his main villains. He seemed weak to me. Like he’s just a fat gangster. But after watching this show I saw just how smart and cold blooded he is. He’ll used anyone and do everything to get what he wants.

    • @bigheadrhino
      @bigheadrhino 3 дні тому

      That’s what makes him so special. He’s even physically disadvantaged. His “super power” is pure cunning and Macchiavellianism. He’s cold blooded but comes across as emotional and even relatable and he uses his physical pitiableness to his advantage. He requires good writing to pull off. It’s hard to put your finger on his intellect like you could with the Riddler because he’s a genius of human nature and his actions are often indirect. He doesn’t use force to get what he wants, he gets people to do what he wants be getting them to think they are doing what THEY want..

    Another subtle twist at the end that y'all didnt mention:
    When the tear comes down Oz's mom's cheek and he says, 'I know, Ma. Its everything you ever wanted"
    But that may not be why the actual tear was there. He promised her that he'd kill her if she lost it and he didnt. I think she's crying because she's stuck in the one state she didnt want to be in and Oz completely misinterpreted it

      @Brandon-k2l8u 3 дні тому

      @@knate_b he didn’t misinterpret it. He is beyond selfish. It’s similar when he could have told the truth to his mom but instead kept lying and her finger was about to get cut off. He is so obsessed that he doesn’t care what she wants, because he just wants her and her approval.
      So he lied in the first place when he said he would kill her. That scene saying he would kill her was also set up to mess with the audience in the first place

    • @knate_b
      @knate_b 3 дні тому

      @@Brandon-k2l8u What I am saying is that his selfishness is what caused him so say what he did about the tear. In his self delusion, he does believe that he gave her all she wanted, but my contention is that her tears were really because she was stuck in her own personal hell being trapped in that vegetative state

    • @thispersonrighthere9024
      @thispersonrighthere9024 2 дні тому

      @@knate_b he doesn't genuinely love her. he was crying when he heard she was a vegetable because he needed her to validate him. this is why in the final scene, his lover was pretending to be his mom and saying she's proud of him.
      the entire finale was an exposition on Oz Cobb's true nature:
      1. Oz needs the affirmation of others. his mother was a tool he used to praise him. he showed no remorse for his brothers' deaths, because he now had his mother's attention all to himself. this is also why he wants power: so people can see him as powerful, and he can affirm himself as superior.
      2. he's greedy. this is why after he killed Vic, he robbed him. in the very first episode, we saw him stealing from Falcone's safe.
      3. he will justify his wrongdoings, no matter how despicable they are. he was willing to watch his mom lose her finger instead of admitting to himself he killed his brothers to feed his need to have her attention to himself. Vic saved his life three times (i believe), and even saved his mom, but he still believes he had to kill Vic because Vic is a loose end. he may even be so deluded that he believes his brothers' deaths are the fault of drowning and not him locking them in the tunnel, or that keeping his mom alive in that penthouse is really what she wanted, instead of him taking revenge for her stabbing him by doing the one thing she explicitly told him not to do!
      Oz Cobb is a selfish, narcissistic, greedy, power-hungry, murderous sociopath who will use and discard whomever he wants to appease himself, and will not only justify all his crimes, but also possibly lie to himself to achieve such justification. worst of all, he's cunning, that is, he can plan ahead and formulate effectively devious plans at the drop of a top hat (pun intended).
      he's a true villain, and his character development to full blown villainhood is one of the best i have ever seen in any crime drama.

    I think an important detail is that he killed Vic not with a gun or a knife(ways to put distance to the neccessary killing for Oz) but with his bare hands which makes it more personal. He had to do it with his hands. It kinda shows in a twisted way that he indeed liked Vic because he didn't kill him with something that took this emotional component away.

    I commend the writers of this series for creating an elaborate chess game of contrasting interests and emotions, where conflicts are often resolved in unexpected but shrewd and (for the most part) believable ways. At this point with the last episode, not saying otherwise he's most likely real. Although to be fair, his little presence and footprint in the show was very obvious that it seemed intentional.
      I saw a post on Reddit before the finale tracking his interactions in the show, suggesting he might be a hallucination.
      Throughout the entire series,excluding the flashback episode, no character directly speaks to Julian except for Sofia which seems odd for a sporting character.
      In episode five well in the meeting room waiting for Sofia with the rest of the mob family. Julian stands alone in the back of the room, no one acknowledges the fact that a stranger is in this very secret meeting, and when it comes time to sit down, he does not.
      In episode seven Julian tries to introduce himself to Oz's mother well standing in front of her and she gives no response or acknowledgement he's there. It was suggested in the post that a mother's condition could be a clever way of hiding the fact that even when he's trying to speak to someone other than Sofia he fails.
      The only physical reactions someone has had to Julian's presence was two instances where guards open doors for him, doors belonging to rooms that are only occupied by Sofia. It was suggested in the post that with the fact that no one has spoken to Julian in the entire show and that Sofia always talks to him in a empty room, that the guards could also be part of the hallucination.
      Now, with the last episode out, it seems the writers just severely underutilized the character to the point where we can tell his presence doesn't matter.

      Same. Although I vaguely see a season 2 premise with the duality of his public & criminal lifestyles & dealing with freaks entering the competition like Black Mask, Two-Face, & The Ventriloquist/Scarface. But the story is definitely complete as is imo.
      I see Penguin being a secondary villain in Part II & more of antagonist to Bruce Wayne as a philanthropist in the sense of an obvious corrupting force impeding the progress of Gotham's politics.

      He may not be the main bad guy in The Batman 2. He could be an opportunist in that movie as well. Something happens, Batman stops the event but it results in something like the mayor dying thus season 2 can be about Oz becoming the new mayor.

      After seeing the bat-signal it just makes me wish they referenced him a few times. I didn't want him to be involved in the show, just acknowledgments of him. Maybe Vic asks "Do you think the Vengeance will show up" at one point & Oz replies "The Vengeance ain't nothing" & even lies about how he managed to escape from him. That way, it explains why in the end, he thinks no one can stop him.

I absolutely hate Oz as an character, but in the same moment, he is that well written and played that I like to watch him and enjoy his story, I normaly have problem witch such kind of shows where main character is even main vilian, but not here, it was perfect.

      I agree. Yes, Colin was phenomenal as Oz but the story was also phenomenal. It doesn’t make sense to drag out his story WITHOUT Batman. The whole point was to show his rise to villainous status and establish a backstory. I’m not saying the show needed Batman, but it made sense to not have him there since Oz was not committing major crimes. He’s at the point where he’s on Batman’s radar and that’s where he needs to stay. On the big screen. Not another season.

    The best thing about this show is that it shows you it's hand in literally the first 10 minutes; but Colin is SO enigmatic - and the writing is SO good - that you don't realize that you're falling for the same trick Oz is pulling on everyone else before it's too late. He keeps you on his hook the ENTIRE time. This was so great I kind of want Oz to be the villain of the 2nd film. With him getting deeper into Gotham's political underworld - It would be a perfect segue into the Court. Oz as the primary antagonist with a Talon as his muscle would go hard.
