Driving The Built Turbo EFI Go Kart For The First Time!

- In this video the predator 212 turbo go kart with electronic fuel injection finally drives! It was a lot of work getting it to this point and a whole lot of tuning. In this video to get it ready to drive we had to fabricate mounts for a small tractor alternator, that way we could have a charging system for our predator 212 kart. After that it was only a matter of getting out to a place to drive and letting the kart build boost and drive! We didn't go to crazy all we wanted to do was get a baseline and do some tuning.

Check your spark plug gap!! you might be blowing out the spark on top end 💨⚡️usually a tighter gap is needed under boost
Heimlich Hot rods is right...make sure you gap your spark plug properly...
I was thinking same we used to play with nos alot and always took a msd or some kind of multiple spark to not let the extra fuel to not blow spark out off of plug
Get a plug 1 or 2 steps colder and gap it small

Boosted boiz was having an issue with timing at higher rpm.

I'd make sure you have the turbo friendly version of that EFI kit. With the two bar map sensor and the bigger injector. That's most likely going to be your problem for higher RPM cut out
Ace the Army Pup wouldn’t you be able to just swap the sensor and injector
If they didn't get the turbo friendly kit then yes you can order them. Your still going to need to tune it yourself to get the most out of it .

Sounds like you need to get that thing dialled in properly I couldn't hear no spooling it's a awesome machine I can see you have put a lot of time in to it you just need to find that sweet spot with the fuelling and ignition timing also are you getting enough fuel when at high rpm may need a larger injector
you should make the front intake side of the turbo facing forward against the wind so it could properly breathe and get more power

PLEASE put an air filter on that turbo! you dont want it to die within a week.... if its not allready damaged from small debris flying into it (yes the back of the vehicle has a suction effect)

If blow-by is a problem, may I recommend gas porting the piston? It's something seldom done except on race engines being pushed to the limit, so it's perfect for this. Also, there's a .356 cam for this engine so there's still yet more power to be had.
Doubt you'll see this comment... but on the off chance you do; I've personally tuned several turbo cars before, including my own. You *really* need to do some data logging and check the AFR across the board... but for a start, Download the current fuel table off the PCM and open it on your computer. Save a backup copy as the "base map." Add like, about 10% fuel to the entire table, upload it to the PCM and go for a drive. See if that improves drivability at all. Also, check your spark plug and make sure the gap isn't too big. Higher compression and higher cylinder pressures will blow out spark if the gap is too big or spark is too weak. Also consider upgrading the ignition coil to a hotter performance one. Ideally you want to get the VE cells close as possible, then let autotune smooth out interpolating cells for smoother operation and efficiency. Autotune should only make small changes and would take a TON of driving to get things close.

Great video, Can't remember if you guys put rubber mounts under engine if not something is needed to reduce vibration or you will kill it or loose parts
Boostedboiz are making a efi turbo kart to maybe look what there doing and copy there design a little or ask questions at them because they have alot of experience with efi and turbos

If it has a 1bar map sensor it will only be able to read 14 ish pounds witch is atmospheric pressure ( what we breath). You'll need a 2 bar map sensor to read boost pressure
Make a reservoir tank air, between the turbo to trottle body, you can take a best efi tuning and race more psi

I think a 420 woulda been better. 420cc on efi. I'd try to do a roots supercharger . A few videos were they have a couple using a air pump. Or use a smaller turbo like kyle did on his from the boosted boiz

Does it have a crank sensor for the efi?
If you did that weld on the axel hub and pulley, then you have leveled up quite a bit

That motor is just too small to sufficiently spool the turbo.
That turbo is actually BIGGER than the turbo my brother in law have in his Daihatsu Mira (factory turbo, 660cc engine). I mean, even that turbo would be too big for a predator 212, let alone this one they're trying to use. It's never going to generate enough boost unless they rev that poor thing to oblivion lol It's crazy to see how many people on YT are trying to do this exact the same thing and failing at it and somehow they are just ignoring the fact that the turbo is just too big OR maybe they all know it and are just doing it for the "views", who knows...
@@fullmetaljacket7 check out boostedboiz, they are doing the most legit attempt I have seen yet. Plus they have an in house dyno and full shop to work with, so that makes things easier. They are using a lifan 200 motor.

Put a boost gauge on it. Dirt cheap and simple. It looks hella slow, I'd love to see if it's actually making boost.
It’s faster than last time I saw it
so a much cheaper and simpler solution would have been to use a draw through carb on the turbo intake, with the throttle stuck open, then a second carb right before the engine with the fuel line disconnected, just so you can have a throttle. You can't throttle pre turbo because the engine will suck oil out of the core.

I think You may Really Benefit from a (Velocity - Stack)Tube (Curved Over the Driver's Shoulder Or around the side.!) Whatever Easiest (But Make Sure You Wrap Some Fine-sh Gauze over the End of 'Said Velocity Tube' To Stop Them Pesky Stone Chip's n' Fly's Wrecking The Turbo..!
That should Also Give You a Kind of RAM-AIR Effect..!

Use a cone filter and a small 90 and or 180 degree bent pipe the comes out to the side. That will boost power and help with high end.

I can’t see a self learning ecu tuning this easily.
Unless it has a boost sensor of some kind that it’s reading. Even then with the vast array of pressures it will see it will take ages, I suggest making a little rolling road, no need to make it a full blown dyno yet. Then you can sit there and put it through various loads, boost levels, give the ECU every chance it can get, then future onroad testing will be simpler for the ecu to adjust
Guys, you need to build a bigger turbo dump pipe! The bigger the better is the rule on dump pipes 😉

question...why is the waste gate without a vaccum hose connected to it?
JG Trucker you need to make more boost than the spring pressure in the wastegate for it to even do anything. They are not making enough boost to open it so there is no point in hooking it up.

Make sure u have the closed loop sensor on if not will never run right in the higher rpm goes off the factory wide band

Next time if you want to go to a smaller alternator look at what comes on the kubota's specifically the two and three cylinder models it's about a third of that size
you should mount another hydraulic disc brake caliper so you can run a handbrake and get a manual clutch to take the "drift kart" to the next level (rbg has a video on the clutch and a link)

Don't want to be that guy but knowing how a turbo work and sound engine wise , that rpm climb sounds far too linear for it to be seeing any notable boost... usually it hits a certain rpm range where the boost hits and the rpms will climb faster (not linear)

1: it doesn't look/sound like that turbo is doing shit

Beavis and Butthead, I don't hear any spooling of the motor. I hear sputtering that sounds like a spark problem. The only thing that is not self-learning is Beavis and Butthedad.

You should contact pfi speed and race the shopping kart. 1million views easy.
Needs a transmission, at least 2 gears so the turbo has a purpose.
Now build another 212 with nitrous and compare them
There is no spool from the turbo u need to go efi on that kart and work out your air mass in your air pressure tank for the turbo.

Its already efi....its a self learning efi....after it runs for a while it will ballpark tune itself. Theres nothing they mess with till thats done
michael lawrence the reason the turbo isn’t spooling is ine of two reasons. A. Not high enough rpm yo spool or B. The turbo is too bit for the exhaust to spool it. Either that or the spool is just too quiet to be heard over the camera
