@@cyma_gaming well, to be fair, very young adults often tend to be quite immature, especially if they didn't have a lot of experience with different opinions and perspectives. And as someone who's seen 40+ year old adults act as if they were 13 and I was their mom, I think learning to own up to your mistakes is something much needed, and it's rarely too late to learn it.

I still got so annoyed with that student, I was ready to play devil's advocate and use her other tweets. 😅
I must emphasize that I do not think that she is transphobic or generally in the wrong, but I would use her tweets about gender, unwillingness to accept "inclusive" terms and trans-women in sports for my arguments. I also try to put a low bar on what people consider transphobic and challenge him about who should define that, random people or those who are trans. 😏

And something more people need to be comfortable with. There is NOTHING wrong with being wrong. It happens to litterally all of us. At uni we have our preconceptions constantly proven wrong and we learned from it. Dont think I've ever had a course were I didnt have something I thought to be true be proven to be a false narrative. You can be the world leading expert in w/e field and you will still be wrong every now and then even in your field of expertise.
Now obviously this doesnt mean all opinions are equally worth - expert opinions should be held at a higher value. But its certainly an important lesson to keep at the back of your mind and a key factor in applying critical thinking.

Well that’s what they think they are doing. Having an open mind. The problem is that they are wrong in two ways.
One is that they do have a more open perspective initially, but it’s not paired with the ability to discern what they are open too.
The second is that once they are open, the concept quickly transforms into a destruction of the means to tolerate other viewpoints, because of the destruction of all other forms of meaning.
It’s an anti-philosophy, because it attacks actual value scales per se. The notion of truth per se. It proposes virtue by means that actually provide no inherent virtue, and says the work of one is theft from all. Or at the least strength or skill is at the expense of all. (That’s the line between Marx and Postmodernism. Marx is all Economic. Postmodernism encompasses all inequality.) All while attesting that your collective identity is both the most important thing about you, while simultaneously suggesting such things don’t truly exist. That they are arbitrary seeming, and primarily dependent on whatever one feels in the instance.
Now they don’t say that. But if you follow the path they lay out it leads there.

Most "leftist" start to get defensive and pissy when they realize they are wrong? Or you mean most people in general? You think most "rightists" or conservatives don't get defensive or pissy for the same reasons? Come on. You sound exactly like the kid in the video who made biased assumptions based on absolutely nothing. If anything in my experience it's the opposite. Progressives are more open to critical thinking while conservatives are just that. Conservative in their thinking and stuck in their ways. They don't like change and don't want to change regardless of facts or logic. That's like religious people who are mostly conservatives or rightists. You can't convince them with facts or logic because religion isn't based on facts or logic but just beliefs based on blind faith. And they get super defensive or pissy when challenged.
Have you tried to have a discussion with a conservative Catholic about how their church and priests are all pedophiles? Have you noticed how all the church defends even likely or convicted pedophiles and tries to cover up everything instead of doing the right thing?
That's just one example. There's 100s more. But even I won't say that it's "most conservatives or rightists" like you said but for leftists, because it's not something you can prove and it's just your own assumptions and bias. As such it says much more about yourself than anything else. Just like the kid in this video when he also made such assumptions that Jk Rowling was transphobic or this or that but when challenged, he couldn't even prove she was even a tiny bit transphobic.

It was standard teaching until like a decade ago or so in my country. But regardless of that... my country has among the most brainwashed sheep in the world (Netherlands). Clearly, it didn't help. This is basically thanks to Dutch people's arrogance. They think the country is the best in the world... which it no doubt is in many regards, but then proceed to make the assumption that we also have the best and most free press in the world and that all of our news is true and objective. Basically they deluded themselves into thinking that (despite there being plenty of evidence of the contrary).
The result is that many Dutch people instead of wondering why government distrust has grown exponentially, just believe the stupid lies the mainstream media and politicians tell them. They're not aware of movement to rightwing or in a different direction than left happening in many other countries, even European countries. Our press doesn't report it and if you bring it up yourself and say it's from foreign reporting, they will say it's just lies from an unreliable source. So while there's a lot more movement in most European countries, the Dutch are still rather slow on the uptake. Not all Dutch since I'm not one of the slow ones and the amount that isn't buying into the bs is growing (though honestly, I already realized the direction we were headed in a few decades ago), but it's still going to take a while.

@@PjRjHjDefinitely agree with you. The deflective tone of the original commenter is so frustrating. Yeah, the left is very, very bad about their cult-like behavior at the moment, but, to claim that it's not happening on the right AT ALL, is a complete lie.

You sure aren’t including the highly religious part of the right then? There are definitely very similar cult like traits they share with extreme leftists. Sometimes even worse in my opinion. The only difference is that it isn’t that popular anymore so they don’t hold enough power to actually let the average person feel it.

I asked my close friend if she was going to get the hogwarts legacy game, and she said “probably not because I don’t want to support JK Rowling.”
I so much wanted to play dumb and ask her what she said, because truly, she speaks for so many women. What she said was not wrong, it was fact.
I feel like she’s been brainwashed by things from the left. It really sucks. She was not always like this until she came out and went headfirst into the community.
I do wonder how much she has seen on TikTok that makes her think this way versus what she would actually think if she read the tweets herself (assuming she didn’t).

I often do this because when it comes to facts, I don't personally collect the data that support the facts validity, so I'm just going to accept that it is a fact and take the examiners word for it. Especially if it's a generally accepted fact such as the landing on the moon. How do I personally know it's fact? Did I go there? Did I take the pictures? No. So I have to just take NASA's word for it. The alternative is for me to personally fly to the moon but that is almost impossible for me given my circumstances.

I think something important to think about is the reason why this student felt comfortable allowing the realization to set it that he may have been mistaken. He was comfortable saying he was wrong because he knew his teacher and knew he was not the type of person to make him feel stupid for blindly believing something. He was aware that he was in a safe space to not be verbally attacked and that it was ok to switch opinions and not made to feel like an idiot. More of this please ♥️

I have watched this clip over a dozen times now and for me it's utterly perfect. The teacher is just a remarkable man. He doesn't preach, he doesn't shout, he doesn't ever say '' you're wrong ''. He does what EVERY educator on the planet should do, he listens then he teaches. The student also deserves huge credit for opening his eyes and allowing himself to be taught. It's a MASSIVE life lesson for EVERYONE. Listen to both sides, do your OWN research and thinking, then draw your fully informed conclusions.
The only sad thing about the entire exchange is that in my youth this was called common sense and we were all taught it. Both at school and at home.
However, I just hope this proves to be an example to both those who teach and also those who are taught.
