    May I suggest you get "The Woody Plant Seed Manual". It is a US Forest Service Pub. In it you will find the best way to germinate your Cypress seeds. Stratification and citric acid rinse will help allot.

      Thanks Bill. Never heard of that stuff. Appreciate the tip!

    I grow sago palms by throwing the seeds on top of the soil. I don’t see any reason not to mimic nature. In nature seeds fall to the ground and they grow.

    Which approach worked best? I have access to a bunch of seeds and want to try growing them. Thanks!

    I now know what I'm going to be acting like and doing in 20 years. Probably my uncle...
    Yep, I'd like for y'all to meet my long lost uncle...
    This is ol' Uncle Unbeknownst.
    Hope you and yours are still going as strong as you'd expect from the awesome genetics we probably share somehow...lol
    Serious. I Enjoyed it but I want to know which side of the seed going down into the soil mixture would be best if one were trying to be optimum in this process???
    And I'm also going to assume that if you don't get me an answer at all then you are probably like me and just don't know so if you don't thanks for the help anyway and I'll call you sometime soon. Love you Unk... Talk at you soon. I have the "River Monsters", type of big toothy predator aquarium's

    I hope you don’t plan on fishing at the pond you’re planting cypress at. They grow low to the ground and the roots rise up.

      Actually I'm about to begin creating a bonsai from one in the pond.

    Do you have any seeds available for a seed exchange?

    Do you have a follow up status on the cypress seedlings? I have collected a bunch of cones here in central Texas after the devastating floods over Memorial weekend. We lost hundreds of 100-500 year old trees down the Blanco river. I want to see if I can sprout something.

    Hello. how was the result? germinated?

    • @jwkoeniger
      @jwkoeniger  3 роки тому +2

      Yep...got many to grow...too many. I planted three close together and twisted them into one trunk. Been in the pond for a few years and will make a very interesting bonsai.

      @@jwkoeniger Thank you brother. What is the best method to germinate?

    • @jwkoeniger
      @jwkoeniger  3 роки тому +1

      @@JonasPercioHennig I just planted a bunch (100?) in loose potting soil, watered and left it in shade. I'm in SW Florida and did it in like February/March.

    So I took some of these cones but they're still a bit green but sized as in the video, do I just let them dry then open them and then I can plant them?

    • @jwkoeniger
      @jwkoeniger  4 роки тому

      Alex Alfons you should let the little cones dry on the tree. If they’re green they’re too young. I have my best results with cones that have fallen on the ground.
