My daddy is 78 & is very good at getting these to grow. He has transplanted so many. He has 10-15 and I now collect the cones & I'm working on what he has taught me about giving back to the earth.

PLEASE do a video on propagating bald cypress hardwood & softwood cuttings. I am having so much trouble. No success at all.

What state are you in. They grow well in wet soil. They are actually swamp trees, that's why they are all over Arkansas & Louisiana. Which is where ours came from.

@Kicks001 You Shouldn't have a problem at all down there getting them to grow.

It's gonna be soft wood mainly that'll root. I've struggled with Arizona cypress propagation and bald is a little easier. More compliant with wetter conditions. I stratified 75 seeds and got 3 to germinated. At the PT now I'm down to 1 seedling , at about 2 foot tall now and about to make a bonsai outta it

Very good, Darren. AT 14:42 I see those mature Bald Cypress trees in the background. I have to wait three more months for my seeds to propagate, but your video is inspiring. Thanks!

Thank you very much. Sorry about getting back to you. we opened our nursery this year and I didn't know anyone was watching the channel. We are working on a series for popular plants that are easy to propagate and a series on plants that people have difficulties growing and keeping alive. I hope you will watch.

very helpful. I've been buying hundreds of bare root trees for years and have many trees growing at all different ages. But the bareroot source that I had dried up. You video makes it seem so straight forward.

Thank you, I don't know why February cutting are so much better, but I have a much better success rate. I sold all of last year's cuttings, so we did a lot more this year.

How do you scarify your bald cypress seeds?😊

    Questions on your softwood cuttings..
What time of year (ex. late spring) did you take them?
Did you keep them covered or misted?
I ask because I am in Switzerland and I know of only one tree here and I am planning to take softwood cuttings in about a month. Just curious how you handled that process. Thanks so much for the video!

I'm currently trying to propagate cypress seeds, only been a few weeks, nothing yet. I haven't had any luck with cuttings. What's a hard wood cutting as opposed to a soft wood cutting?

Hardwood is hardened off and won't die when frost hits

Do they have to be cold stratified? I’m in Naples FL zone 10a. Bald cypress is a native tree here and we might get 2-3 weeks when night temps get into the 40-50s but then it’s right back into the 80s during the day. And they grow naturally here. So 🤷‍♂️

They do have to be cold stratified. We are going to do it again this year now that we have a couple of proven methods. This is one of My favorite trees on the property. Just put the seeds in the refrigerator for a couple of months. Thank you for watching!!!

I'm sure they would benefit from a cold period but they don't need it. I have germinated them 2 years in a row now indoors in Ireland and they have taken between 9 days and 5 months to germinate with 27 out of 40 seeds germinated in a 5 month period. Maybe cold stratification would help with the germination time and frequency of germination but it isn't necessary.

Seems quite knowledgeable. But not so good at planning your videos. Write a script. Write the script on large flip chart, right off screen. Get better lighting and create a consistent setup. Improve the sharing of knowledge skills, and improve the video production value. Thanks for putting your ideas out there.

I came hoping to learn more about BC cuttings propagation. Hard wood vs soft wood. Tray set up, hormone, tip cuttings, humidity bin, warming mats under, etc. When you take your cuttings, how long they normally take to establish decent roots vs, when you know to pull the "stick".
      Any tips & tricks.
