Brienne slayed... literally 🥰 You're right. She's stubborn as hell about those vows. That's why she's one of my favorites. She hasn't been knighted because she's a woman but she embodies the ideals of knighthood better than most
From how I understand it, the people advocating for the fighting pits are doing it because they provide opportunities to learn how to fight and defend yourself and win glory. These fighting pits have been open since Meereen began and are a huge part of their culture so if Dany shows up, conquers them, and just takes away the two things that have defined Meereen for centuries, she’s setting herself up for failure basically. Both are horrible practices but reopening the fighting pits to only free fighters could appease the people who oppose her without having to reinstate slavery. Dany is a foreigner and can’t rule Meereen as an outsider. She has to embrace their culture more if she wants to succeed.
She also didn’t give the people a positive alternative way to live their lives, just took everything away. Because of that the classism actually grew, even after freeing the slaves we can see they are still wearing rags and starving. It invites a greater divide between the two groups of ppl and of course that’s going to lead to retaliation and violence. The fighting pits would give free people who want the opportunity, the chance to live again if they like fighting or want to learn or even just want a non fighting job there. If only Jorah was around 😭
Dany was really stupid for making it a public execution. She should’ve given him a trial and killed him quietly if he was guilty. Killing someone who supported her in front of the people who support her was idiotic.
it was about justice and sticking with the law.. and Dany thought if she showed Mercy, she will appear as she was playing favors against the masters who already believe that she is completely against them, and they will believe that she is only applying the law at them and not everyone else, that would lead to them getting even more violent and that was not gonna be in the former slave's favor. there was not much of a "right" choice either way.. and it's why we see her struggling a lot.
The whole situation with the masters' revolt shouldn't have been allowed to happen in the first place. She should have stripped them of their power and wealth the moment she took over and exiled them from the city. This is when GOT writing started falling off a bit.
@@6ButtonS6 Or when we realize Dany was never a good ruler but clearly fans never wanted to admit that and cry about her ending instead as if the signs werent always there.
This is true. Also, even though she is the "Mother of Dragons", she can still only have a dragon bond with one dragon. The other two are also obviously pissed about being chained up and locked in a dungeon, but they are also not bonded her as Drogon is. She's still safer with them than some rando would be though
He directly went against her ruling to have the Son of the Harpy stand trial. He was well intentioned, but undermined her authority, and could have prevented them from finding out more information about the Sons of the Harpy as a whole. I don't think we know for sure whether the guy they caught actually killed anyone, or if he was just affiliated with the group, but the former slave outright confessed to killing him, so there's no need to give him a trial. He confessed to murder and essentially treason by deliberately disobeying her orders to have the Harpy stand trial, both of which would be punishable by death. Her thought process was likely to make it clear that no one is above the law, regardless of who they are, and that the former slaves won't get special treatment or be shown more leniency when they commit crimes. It kind of backfired, but I think she's actually just trying to be a fair ruler, because if the penalty for a crime is death, then that penalty applies to everyone. 🤷

There’s a really strong parallel between Daenerys and her dragons in this season. In my opinion, they represent her subconscious mind since she is very headstrong, temperamental, impulsive, and unruly in these episodes. She hasn’t learned to temper her own actions yet, just like her dragons haven’t tempered theirs. That’s why all of them are just kinda feral and unwieldy. They are her mirror image.

Machiavelli wrote about this in his book The Prince, as a foreign ruler you gotta embrace the locals' values and make their lives better so that they'll support you and won't want their previous ruler back or anyone else. You also can't be more or less cruel than the previous rulers, there still needs to be respect. She should have made the guy do some community service, the slaves have been wronged and they outnumber the masters so you can't anger them. Daenerys needs to learn these things on the spot if she wants to rule westeros successfully.
After much thinking and reviewing these episodes, I believe that Daenerys thought that abolishing slavery in one fell swoop would fix the problem...but it couldn't possibly fix years and years of a deeply ingrained social system. It just doesn't happen that way. She was well intentioned, but by not understanding how most people in life REALLY live, she's flailing in the dark. Where do the now freed people go for work? Without the masters housing (albeit appallingly) their previous slaves, where do they go? What about the maids? Now that they're on their own...on the streets, who looks after them. Etc., etc., A project of this scope needs planning, the assurance of a big safety net for many, retraining, assurances of protection for those in need (children, the disabled, the elderly, mothers needing medical aid and childcare). How about housing? Or general education for the young? Here Daenerys shows a dangerous, privileged, and stubborn side by thinking she can wave her hand and "poof", all slavery is gone. Instead, most viewers are glamoured into siding with her. I was guilty of this too, but years of chewing over these actions of hers have given me a new perspective. But that's just my opinion. Your reaction to the "fair trial" part is really interesting. In a fair trial, the person accused has the opportunity to defend themselves. He publicly admitted that he murdered the prisoner with his own hands. In any modern court, that is a guilty verdict. So I'm not sure how you didn't get that? And also, why are so many people ok with Danny being just as murder hungry as the people she is supposed to replace. Either you force people to abide by what you think is better, or you replace the old with new people treating everyone exactly the same. Either you change how things are done or you keep doing them. That is what she has to decide, and I felt that depicted that very clearly and very authentically.
I think theyre so adamant about the fighting pits because it's deeply ingrained in their culture, so it's normal thing for them. And you can't really erase something like that overnight, just because the boss wants it. It's like asking Asians to get rid of the rice. Yeah, good luck with that lol. It takes generations to erase an important part of one's a culture. If Danny wants to get rid of it, she'd have to go proper dictator/conqueror. And she won't do that because she's a "benevolent" queen
I think a dragons bond with their 'master' is based on mutual respect, and because Dany didnt have full control over her dragons when they were getting bigger and at points was a bit jumpy around them (like when they were fighting over the goat and one snapped at Dany in S3), thats why they're kinda acting out. The dragons are very intelligent so they sensed she didnt quite know what to do with them since she has no Targaryen to guide her on how to control a literal dragon lol. I love the dragons but if i was there I'd be terrified so i dont blame her. I also dont quite get why she killed that boy, imo she shouldve just imprisoned him. Also as a side note i feel like Greyworm doesnt get enough love from the GoT community, hes literally one of my favourites and Missandei is literally gorgeous i love both of them
16:00 I agree, but she got shit advisors without Jorah tbh, Daario is a mercenary, hot and skillful fighter, but his advice is just "fight and kill", and Ser Barristan, for all his nobility, is kind of quiet on any issues she is facing (saying fence-sitter would be too much, but certainly his is kind of "idk anything about this stuff, I'm just a noble knight" type) Edit: and I agree, where is a fair trial, right? Btw, such a big point of argument back in the day, and kind of still

Okay so- on the conflict with the Sons of the Harpy, the fair trial- etc. I think your confusion is coming in with seeing it in an idealistic/moralistic sense, and what is the “right” thing, where Dany is being forced to play the game of politics, where what’s right often comes second to what is the most practical. It’s not that they have to give the Sons of the Harpy fair trials because that’s the right thing to do- that is a part of it, let’s be honest. She doesn’t want to be a military dictator. But it’s also because to do so shows the former slave masters, who are supporting the Sons of the Harpy, that she can do some sort of compromise, etc. She doesn’t expect the former slave masters to love her, but she needs them to stop sponsoring terrorism that’s destroying the city and causing chaos. Also, the masters were the only ones with all the education, wealth, and resources in the city. While Dany can attempt to provide education and things to the former slaves, these things don’t happen over night, and Dany probably needs the participation of these more educated peoples in running the city, she can’t just do it with her small council and her army of Unsullied. This is also why the former slave who killed the Son of the Harpy had a public execution and no trial. I agree- I think that was dumb and shouldn’t have been done, but what I think Dany was thinking was that the slave masters/sons of the harpy were going to be really pissed off that the SotH didn’t get a fair trial, and thus blame it on Dany, meaning the attacks could get worse, etc. by executing the former slave who killed the Harpy, she is showing to the former masters that she is being “”unbiased”” and not just serving the interests of the former slaves, but trying to apply laws universally. But obviously as you saw this attempt to make peace with the old ruling class pissed off Dany’s supporters- the liberated slaves. You can disagree with these moves, I certainly do, but I think this is a more helpful way of understanding it, trying to balance the interests of two opposing forces, rather than being completely moral and right. We might want Dany to just kill all the former masters, but as I said it’s not really that easy- they have all the education and connections, so killing all of them would be a major loss in some ways, even though they are scumbags who deserve to die. And that’s even assuming she could just line them up and kill them- it would likely mean even more fighting like what we’ve seen with t he Harpies. I dunno, that’s just how I see this bit of the show. I haven’t read the books so feel free to yell at me in the replies
Sry but I was rewatching your bridgerton videos and I was thinking about how much you would love the most recent show they put out, although I’m exited for season 3 of bridgerton 😁
34:50 well he cant make Jon a Stark right now, but since they are all fighting for Stannis to be king, he technically can make him Stark once he gets to the throne.
Ironically in the books, House Martell wanted to make Marcella Queen instead of killing or harming her thus replacing Her brother. In fact everyone in Dorne loves her in the book as she’s pretty and kind. Fun fact The Dornish people are extremely resilient and were the only people who did not kneel to the Targaryens when they were conquering Westeros. They came into the fold when they were good and ready and that too through marriage. I hate their storyline in the show. As far as legitimately Jon Snow goes and making him warden of the North, that’s how ruling goes 😂 When someone wants to become a king and even when they become one, they honour or reward lords aka bribe them with titles. Those lords want the power that comes with those titles and the King gets their influence. So of course Stannis is doing it for his own gain.
I'm adding to my Patreon comment. The reason the Harpy was getting the trial and the formerly enslaved council member didn't, was likely because the formerly enslaved man confessed and led the charge to the kill the prisoner. I'm assuming the Harpy didn't confess, or if he did, it was partial, because he obviously refused to name who ordered White Rat's murder and/or turn in other Sons of the Harpy. It was a no-win scenario no matter what Daenerys did to punish her council member.
I just want you to know, for your benefit, really... if you commit a crime, and then confess to the crime... you dont go to trial. Lol i dont want you to be confessing to anything and then expecting a trial to get you out of it later. Hahahaha
So this episode the first one of season 5. I got to see live the night it happened. I don't have HBO. I never did, but there was an event called watchathon that went from the previous Monday to that Sunday and I was able to watch it that night and when I saw melisandra with Jon and she asked if he was a virgin I was like oh god she wants to sacrifice him
Kings can legitimize a bastard like Ramsay. Daenerys was trying to show that no matter former slave or former master the law is the law & they will be punished. I agree she shouldn’t have done it tho she should’ve just cut off his hand or killed him in the pyramid. Once the people asked for mercy she should’ve gave it. Drogon sensed his mother’s fear.

It takes generations to erase an important part of one's a culture. If Danny wants to get rid of it, she'd have to go proper dictator/conqueror. And she won't do that because she's a "benevolent" queen
Brad your editsssss omg! 10/10 as USUAL. Can’t stress enough best edits on any react channel no contest 🤌🦋
We need more of this Brad. I couldn’t wait for the next episodes
Also as a side note i feel like Greyworm doesnt get enough love from the GoT community, hes literally one of my favourites and Missandei is literally gorgeous i love both of them
16:00 I agree, but she got shit advisors without Jorah tbh, Daario is a mercenary, hot and skillful fighter, but his advice is just "fight and kill", and Ser Barristan, for all his nobility, is kind of quiet on any issues she is facing (saying fence-sitter would be too much, but certainly his is kind of "idk anything about this stuff, I'm just a noble knight" type)
Edit: and I agree, where is a fair trial, right? Btw, such a big point of argument back in the day, and kind of still
Season 5 is one of my favourite seasons sooo excited for your reaction of the rest of the season. Also Im begging you to watch Good Omens such a good show.

Hi, I'm a new subscriber. Loving your GoT reactions. ❤
I think it's so sad that Dany has absolutely no one to learn how to take care of Dragons from....
Yesssss so excited to see more of your got reactions ❤

36:04 made me CACKLE. 🤣 "I'ma let you finish-" 😂
Yay!! Brad Zzavid gave you & your merch a shoutout in his latest video!! 😆 Can’t wait for this! Wish you did the 2 ep videos for season 4! Hope you are watching the history & lore videos as well! Would love to see a reaction! Just be careful with season 5’s history & lore cause it can spoil the spin-off House of the Dragon
My favorite editing on yt 😂 love your reactions!
Praying for you brad from here on out. Second half of this show is stress
"Grey Worm, are they hissing at me? " "No, they're saying DaenerysssssSSSSSSSSSSS!" "DaeneryssssSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!"
Sry but I was rewatching your bridgerton videos and I was thinking about how much you would love the most recent show they put out, although I’m exited for season 3 of bridgerton 😁
HE BACK!
yeeees I was waiting for this!! lets goooo ✨
HIiI brad!! ilysm
an eye for an eye 😉 someone is ready for house of the dragon.
i would love to see u react to an anime, im sure that would be so much fun!
I was wondering when you’d finish lol I just started binging your binges and seen u started 5 months ago and STILL haven’t made it to the best parts!!
there’s something hilarious about you looking up if Greyworm was recasted just for the man to be murdered as you looked away.
Hey darlin', hope this finds u well. enjoyed as always. Thanx so much, Peace
Yesss, what a way to start the day🥰
The Harpy denied the charges, hence a trial, former slave guy confessed so no trial needed to determine the facts.
game of thrones vid today so happy!!!!
the "Paradox of Tolerance" is a difficult thing to reconcile and navigate.
LMAOOO. love your reaction videos! Much love from Jamaica ♡♡♡😂❤
As far as legitimately Jon Snow goes and making him warden of the North, that’s how ruling goes 😂
When someone wants to become a king and even when they become one, they honour or reward lords aka bribe them with titles. Those lords want the power that comes with those titles and the King gets their influence. So of course Stannis is doing it for his own gain.
"Willy Willosh" is my new nickname
YES Queen ! Thanks for another reaction of GOT ! Love them 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I'm adding to my Patreon comment.
Finally 😭😭😭
i gagged so hard when kanye appeared on the screen 😂😂😂
lol love the mic drop rant lol
I just want you to know, for your benefit, really... if you commit a crime, and then confess to the crime... you dont go to trial. Lol i dont want you to be confessing to anything and then expecting a trial to get you out of it later. Hahahaha
Just a quick question before i watch😂 is the Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Pt 2 (edited) free to watch on patreon as you couldnt upload on here?
go to the link in the comments, it’s a link to vimeo for you to watch it
@@BradEvans21thank you.
Who knew old maester aemon would get such a gag from Brad.
Woohooo so excited for this
queen mother👑
Vanessa Hudgens at the start of the pandemic: 29:41
This is my #2 favorite season
Can you react to were the millers please!!
Love your reaction, yet again. Very entertaining. Edits are amazing. If ever you decide to react to animes in the future, Brad, I'd love to see your reaction to Attack on Titan. I think you'll like it. 😄
Dany is a foreign invader so she is walking a very thin line between being a dictator and a good queen, i personally agree with the fair trial for the harpy but she shouldve given the people mercy as they cried for her because now she lost the favor of the liberated.
"Her father was a nutter but she's not"
....*cough cough*....
“The queen of unnatural relations “. 😂😂
