  • Muggleborns FAIL at Hogwarts! HERE'S WHY It cannot in any way be easy for a muggleborn to prepare for life at hogwarts, it’s actually a stressful, eventful and uneasy time and that's basically down to them going into a completely foreign environment, a place they’ve no experience in dealing with and there's the small small tiny issue of them finding out that magic is real. No fairytales, no clicking your feet together 3 times to get back to Kansas, no Tinkerbell fairy dust giving the lost boys the ability to fly, this magic is real, magical spells, magical books, potions, wands, creatures, the works. Little bit of a shock to the system you might imagine, so lets look at it from a muggleborns perspective, lets discuss everything that needs to be done and every precaution that must be taken, it’s time to understand why its so difficult for a muggleborn to transition into the Wizarding World.

“Starting life all over again from scratch.” The same can be said for Squibs who start life in the Muggle world, like the squib ancestors of Muggleborns. I wonder if there are any Squibs who think “Y’know what? This life is NOT for me. I miss my magical life, I miss my magical family.” Nvr mind a Muggleborn support group, there should be a SQUIB support group too.

Actually, it's the same for Harry or maybe worse.
He had never heard of the wizarding world until Hagrid told him. And at Hogwarts he had to deal with the fact that was the famous boy who lived.
Of course, his life with the Dursleys was so terrible that he never would have chosen to go back

I was thinking the same thing.
Harry was basically Raised as a Muggle Born. And his Status is a Double Edge Sword as well, making it a lot more worse for him. Cause even though Muggle Borns of course has to go through a lot to Transition into that life style, their not expected much from them, giving them ample room to succeed if they so choose with really no expectation other than the bare minimum.
Harry in the other hand is 'The Boy Who Lived', the Boy who only as a Infant, vanquished 'He Who Must Not Be Named' and made it out with Only a Scar. The little dude is practically a Legend.
EVERYONE within the Wizardry World expect A LOT from the little guy, so he has to Overly Exceed Expectations and practically live up to Everyone's Standards. For a Wizard who never even knew that world existed, is one hell of a lot to take in.
Not to diminish Muggle Borns of their Difficult Life within the Wizarding World as it is. It's a very Hard Paved Road to take but a very Rewarding one in the end if you manage to trek through it and overcome it's obstacles. If anything, their just as Deserving to earn their Title as a Witch or Wizard as any one else in the Wizarding World.

I actually wanted to see more interactions between the Weasleys and the Grangers.
I have to respect Hermione’s parents for maybe being shocked at first and than ok, you are a witch. Let’s do this. They supported her unconditionally despite this being a new world for them. They were willing to learn about it and be there for. This support system really helped Hermione when she needed it.
I know it is only a small scene but the one in chamber of secrets of Arthur having a conversation with the Grangers about their profession and life in the muggle world was so sweet and I felt this could lead to more family gatherings. Maybe now that she is married to Ron, that could happen? Oh wait, she obliviated them. Wish they bring their memories back.
    That’s tragic.
It also showed that what can help build the bridge between the muggle world and the wizarding one is learning about each other and establishing a connection to end the fear. This could have been done with that one scene and building it up each film and book.
Maybe it is in the books but I forgot.

    • @AugustusR
      @AugustusR 2 роки тому +9

Err... she did not wipe their memories clean, only altered them so that in case she died they would have a life and all without her. Once the war was over she restored their memories in their original form. The whole thing with obliviation (not a real verb I know, but maybe it is in the wizarding world haha) only happened in the movie because sticking to canon causes violent allergic reactions to the writers or something. Oh and the books also put this little detail in... Hermionie prefers to spend her school holidays with her kind-of adoptive family (the Weasleys), hard as her parents tried to keep a bond with her despite not being able to much relate on anything magic related. It is just that you have two very different worlds and some gaps (chasms really) you cannot bridge.

Although neither is a complete or deefinitive answer, there are two ways in which i think that the Potterverse has addressed the notion of Muggleborn discomfort with, or rejection of, the magical lifestyle:
    1) The invention of the "Obscurus" concept in "Fantastic Beasts" serves as a chilling reason why refusing to learn magic could actually be dangerous, both to the student and to others. Since Obscuri seem rare enough that New Scamander felt one was worthy of capture & study, we can assume that this does not happen frequently.
    2) The original saga's description of how badly Muggleborns and half-bloods outnumber the Purebloods makes it clear that mathematically, Muggleborn acceptance is not merely common but necessary. It's been commented that most wizards are at least half-blooded, even the old families, otherwise they wouldn't survive.

One time, I read a fanfic about Harry Potter being a Squib, where Hermione was severely attacked by the troll and when she recovered at St. Mungo’s, she refused to go back to Hogwarts, “turning her back on a world that shunned her for either her parentage or thirst for knowledge,” her magical belongings were locked in the cupboard under the stairs (not to be confused with where Harry slept at the Dursley’s) and she went to the same Muggle secondary school that Harry went to.

I know Harry Potter and Voldemort would quickly adjust to the wizarding world due to their awful experience with Muggles, but what about Dean Thomas? In another video, I watched the other day they were saying that no truly good Slytherins were shown and even Slughorn was prejudiced. My response was...
"I'm not even so sure it's all that prejudiced to expect a muggle-born to have less aptitude for magic. Think about it a child from magic parents would have seen magic from day one and I'm sure learning lots of stuff but muggle-borns only learn anything about it at 11. It's a bit like taking a kindergartner and dropping them in 6th grade, having them take right off and become top of the class would be pretty shocking."

Another thing about the whole thing. Muggleborns that did adapt would try and change the magical world to more resemble the muggle world, trying to ease the transition.
I have a Theory that this is why Wizards celebrate Christmas and not Yule or Walpurgis, and Halloween instead of Samhain, why the dark arts are forbidden to teach and practice, and why they are called "the dark arts" (Lucius Malfoy called them... What was it? The old ways? I keep forgetting)
My Wife and I have talked about ways to incorporate Muggleborns better into magic culture, without slowly turning it into muggle culture with wands and without risking the parents breaking the statute of secrecy. And that is to take the kids in when they are younger and let them grow up in magical foster families who volunteer for that, years ahead of their hogwarts letter, and the original muggle caretakers being obliviated. It would be a herder cut, but it would give the kids the attention and time to prepare they need. Yes I do realize that this means Kidnapping. That's the big downside.

Once that child realizes what they did depending on how strong in it they are that could lead to far more harm then good. That type of origin story is the stuff serial killers are made of. Sure they adapt better but once they find out about it they now have an ax to grind and now everyone who agrees with that ideology is no longer a parent or family, they are the enemy.

I don't know. From what we've seen (read) in the books. Success or failure in British wizarding world is highly individual. I would argue that all first years start more or less equally unaware of the situation. We can take Harry's generation for example. If we exclude Hermione who can be viewed as a magical prodigy and rarity in wizarding world (although I have arguments against it), we can take students like purebloods Malfoy, Ron, Lavender, Crabbe, Goyle, Neville, Pansy and muggle-borns like Dean, Justin, Harry (who was unaware of magic until he recieved a letter). I think we can conclude that success of all those individuals was entirely dependant on their effort and work they put in their education. Knowledge and being part of wizarding world did not give them any advantage. I think it's rather interesting how JK wrote that. Even when you think of super powerful wizards, like Voldy, Grindelwald or Dumbledore, all of them were academicly successful and hard working. I may have left some students out of the example, but my argument still stands.

Another reason is that magic is nothing like on tv or comic books that gave them some ideas. Their learning the reality of it all. Hermione was also a child prodigy which helped her to adjust. I think if she was a muggle, she would’ve still been the top of her class, and skip 2 or 3 years and graduated early. It seems in the wizarding world that u don’t skip grades/years with no homecoming/prom except for the Yule Ball 💃🏻. If they don’t go to Hogwarts or any other magic schools for that matter, never learning about their powers, they might have accidental outburst of magic in public or hurt someone without meaning to. JK 1 time did come up with the idea of “Late-Bloomers”, when someone starts showing magic in adulthood, b they muggleborns or were thought to b squibs.

I did some math a few months back and figured out that all over the UK and Ireland, roughly about 60 people on average are born with magic powers every year. That includes Muggleborns.
The Existence of Muggleborns itself is an implication that magic is a recessive trait. The Theory has a hole, though. Two magic parents wouldn't be able to concieve a squib. Squibs would only result from couples where one parent is magic and one is not. It would be Squibs that carry the passive magic gene into the muggle population, being carriers themselves, having the gene, but not being able to utilize it. Two carriers, no matter how many generations the passive genes may have been passed on, would have a 25% chance of concieving a child with magic, a 50% chance for another carrier, and another 25% for a non-carrier. Any person with magic having children with a non-carrier would only have squib kids, while a magic person having children with a carrier has a 50% chance to have a magic child.
In the UK, millions of children are born every year, and even if all 60 of those births were Muggleborn (they are clearly not, but even if they were) it would mean that even carriers would be incredibly rare. Making the chance for each muggle couple to be able to have a muggleborn kid literally smaller than a lottery jackpot.
Between 3 and 10 muggleborn births every year would already be a very generous estimation. It would be more realistic to assume that muggleborns only happen once every couple years.
Unless you actively try to get squibs to marry each other.

Something I’ve always wondered and it’s along the same lines but kind of in the opposite direction. Why don’t people in the Wizarding world take in orphans rather than let them go into Muggle orphanages? I’m thinking specifically of Tom Riddle. How different might his story have been had he been taken in by a Wizarding family rather than allowed to languish in that orphanage?
As for muggleborns starting all over again that’s not something that’s really that unusual for a child of 11 years old anyway. People move to other cities and at 11 many children move from grammar school to middle school and then are surrounded by an entirely new group of people, so that’s some thing that kids navigate on a regular basis. Going to a boarding school however might be a big adjustment depending upon what’s considered usual where you’re from. Boarding schools fairly unusual in the United States but it’s a bit more prevalent in the United Kingdom.

    @gi0nbecell 2 роки тому +2

While I do get your point that ADAPTING to the wizarding world might be hard for muggleborns, I don‘t see them FAIL.
On the contrary, there are several examples for muggleborns doing great besides Hermione. Take, for one, Lily Evans. She was one of the brightest students of her time. Ted Tonks was also muggleborn, and nothing indicates he had any problems. In Harry‘s year, there are Dean Thomas (who is, in fact, a half-blood but grew up as a muggle) of Gryffindor and Justin Finch-Fletchley of Hufflepuff, who both do well enough. Penelope Clearwater of Ravenclaw (whose blood status is never actually confirmed but hinted by the fact she was a victim of Tom Riddle‘s basilisk) even was Prefect. The list goes on.
While there are individuals who did struggle, most notably Moaning Myrtle, they are the exception - and Myrtle had severe anxiety and self-esteem problems anyhow, so this doesn‘t count as „failing because muggleborn“.
As Ron mentions in Philosopher‘s Stone, „There’s loads of people who come from Muggle families and they learn quick enough.“ (Chapter 6) - granted, muggleborns don‘t KNOW about the wizarding world beforehand, but they certainly have no real disadvantage for class, as there is more to magic than just memorising spells. And all students start learning how to do magic from scratch.
The only liable question is: as school isn‘t mandatory in the wizarding world, what would happen if muggle parents reject their kid going to Hogwarts (or, for that matter, any wizarding school)? Magical parents can decide to either home school their kids or send them abroad (as Malfoy mentions: „Father actually considered sending me to Durmstrang rather than Hogwarts, you know.“ [Goblet, Chapter 11]), it is unclear whether muggleborns have the same degree of flexibility. I’d assume they could send their kids to other schools, but homeschooling is out. I‘d also expect that the Ministry erases all data concerning muggleborns from muggle school files when they are accepted into Hogwarts.
Long story short: Your argument is invalid and is disproven by canon, even without meta data from Pottermore.

I always imagined that muggleborn first years would take a class like "Introduction to Magic for Muggleborns" that would put them up to speed on all the basic knowledge they need to put them on par with the pure bloods of the school. I also think it's kind of not fair for them at school either becauase school Is the only place they would be allowed to practice their magic. It's the same for pure bloods and halfbloods but they don't have to worry as much about if they would be any good at magic spells as much as a muggle born probably does. I think since they can't practice magic outside of hogwarts they would try to make up for it by reading and studying everything they can because it's the one big thing they can do to prepare and learn about a world they're unfamiliar with. At least for a muggle born that processes and accepts what they are and is excited about it.
Everyone processes new information differently. I think another reason muggle borns fail is because when they're told magic exists. You could have some different reactions, excitement, denial until they're actually at hogwarts and its too late to study and learn everything ahead of time. Then absolute denial and rejection which i do want to know what happens if someone rejects a hogwartz letter but i also would like to talk about why muggleborns hermione and lily excelled at hogwartz.

I think lots of magical parents and kids don't want to be separated from each other either! Harry Potter books give the impression that Hogwarts is the only Wizarding school in UK, but I thought that there is also an all girl's day school written about inWorst Witch?
To be honest, I think Hogwarts makes me think of schools for ethnic minorities which upholds the tribe's culture and value but teaches nothing of worth about the culture and knowledge of the majority group they are sharing their home with. The whole concept is racist " them or us, where you have to abandon the other in order to be accepted in the club. That's how minority kids have been treated by the dominant ethnic group. For example, there was a time when the Welsh and Northern Irish kids were not allowed to speak their language or express any culture at school: they all had to speak
assimilate into majority group by rejecting ones own identity. I'm surprised there there aren't any more wizards and niggle who are a bit screwed up!
My suggestion would be a school where smuggle and Wizardong studies were BOTH taught together. That way neither world would make the magical people look like fish out of water; they would have a real choice which life to lead without having to deny their roots, friends and even family.

True, there are a lot of Cons to deal with for muggleborn students of any school of magic, but Lilly Evans and Hermione Granger are muggleborns of one generation apart and they didn't falter in keeping up with the other magical students who might not be in that same sort of position as they are/were, they managed to ace their schoolwork well enough, we can count Myrtle out because she died before she even had the chance to try to achieve something out of experiencing life at Hogwarts; after all it is year three when students start to really learn their way into becoming the person they chose to be, but true achievement self rewards don't come till years 5 through 7; It is only a slightly different situation for Hermione and her first two magical friends, since she , Ron and Harry were "pawns" in Dumbledore's plans to foil Voldemort's Back up world domination plans: Coveting the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone plan, Ink Immortality plan, and "Returning to Power" Empowerment plans(Neville Longbottom was only the Monkey wrench where powerful people is concerned: "Philosopher's Stone"/"Sorcerer's Stone"{Standing up to his enemies and friends} , "Prisoner of Azkaban"{ Accidentally losing the list of passwords to a wrongfully convicted murderer}, and "Deathly Hollows"{Destroying the Horcrux known as 'Nagini'} which is I think is the real reason why Neville was co-pinned along side Harry Potter as a possible "Chosen One" candidate of the Voldemort Downfall Prophecy).😅

Awesome video, and all the ideas you have (to put all the theories mentioned) would be great to see them in videos, in case you haven’t done them already… Now, “to adapt” o not from scratch, i don’t think is that difficult (regarding culture, food, etc) because I see it as if you were moving to another Country, which I’ve done and I don’t think it’s that hard to get used to new things (although it doesn’t mean that there wouldn’t be any problems or that you wouldn’t have blue days and such). The rest, regarding “discrimination” and stuff: yeah, we have to build on a thick coat or put on a slimy cover for that (either to repel or let them slip) in order to survive!!

3:22 There was the Durselys, but they didn't have a choice to reject. There's probably some sort of official process you can go through to reject a Hogwarts letter, they just chose to be ignorant of all things magic out of hate n' prejudice, so they didn't know and simply tried to run and hide until they sent Hagrid. If they did know how to reject a letter, Minerva and Dumbledore woulda made it a hellish bureaucratic slog and sent Harry everything he needed when the year started.

But then you didn't give any examples of a Muggleborn that had failed at Hogwarts, lol. I think this would start becoming a massive problem. Harry Potter takes place in the 90s. Imagine today. No cellphones, internet, computers, videogames. Witches and Wizards aren’t allowed muggle things. I’d imagine many children walking away. Also today education is so tight. Take a couple years in the magical world and your light years behind kids you’re own age. There’s no way you’d graduate with your year. The best you could do is a GED, which will limit your job and college chances. Today there can’t be a fluid movement back and forth. It’s all or nothing at a very young age. Unless Hogwarts makes muggle studies mandatory and really steps up for a muggle style education, including tech, many lives will be absolutely ruined.

I'm ready to bet that Hermione was very nerdy at school in the Muggle world as well, not prompt to make friends at all, spending the pauses inside the library instead of the playground. Her parents might have been more easy going on her being a witch because they wouldh't have had to lie to that many people about what she had become if she had no friends from the start.
One question though, when an Muggle child doesn't go to Muggle school anymore, what happens? Muggle authorities hate when a child is substracted from the education system all of a sudden.
May be the Ministry of Magic arranges for the child to suddenly disappear from all Muggle educational registers? so nobody gets worried. I wouldn't want to send my child to magical school is it means to battle with Muggle authorities claiming I am some sort of sect or anarchist weirdo...
Let's just hope that Muggleborns are not born in very big families as well, because lying to more people to hide their true nature is kinda hard. If you lie saying the child is in a mental institution or something, you might get over gestures of sympathy and being taken foa victim of life injustice you are not. Saying the child is arboad at that young age is also quite unusual.
And about saying NO to the wizarding world, well how about the child developping an obscurus? It can be very dangerous.
I remember a French HP fan fic movie "Alhena Walden" about the aftermath of the 2nd Wizarding war with Voldemort, Death Eater children were hunted down by anti Death Eater leagues. They were stripped out of the Magical power by an invisible beast cousin to a Dementor. (invented for the fan fic), I just wonder if a Muggleborn chil decides on his own to leave behind the magical world, if such a procedure can be done on the child to make him a full Muggle but the procedure seems to be definitive, there is no turning back. And does it also change the genetic ability to make magical offspring? We don't have enough data to assess this. Possible that the child who rejected magic will have his offspring also magical and that it would eventually bite them in the ass...

Technically, Arithmancy and Astronomy are the math and science classes at Hogwarts, so technically the two subjects of math and science aren't completely thrown out of the standards of magical learning, those two classes weren't of full awareness in the movies, but the two classes were mentioned in the books and they were also heard-mentioned in one or two of the video games . Uh....😳 In case anyone forgets that detail. In fact, it seems that it had not crossed J.K. Rowling's mind to figure other forms of science as the essential component to impower a fusion of spells that would be very handy in outsmarting a magic user's equally magical opponent, which could've been almost as vital to use against a dark wizard as well as learning more about such characters, and I don't mean potions or alchemy, but the elements that are easily found in the muggle world, otherwise known as "Wild Magic".

The Harry Potter series took place in the 1990s right before the Internet had taken off so in that time period it may have been easier for muggleborns to transition to Hogwarts at that time than it is today with social media and the Internet. Though at that time muggleborns would have to learn how to live without television though once they left Hogwarts they could have television in the home. Today they would have to go without Internet access and social media with their parents being told not to post the video showing the strange things their children can do online. The children wouldn't be able to post videos about their experience in a magical school online or share with their muggle friends. Some muggle parents may actually like having their children not having access to social media for their mental health. Though children with disabilities would have issues getting around Hogwarts castle or not having access to electricity in order to use their medical devices. A muggle born witch or wizard who is in a religious family where they are against magic could possibly be observed to see if they are being pushed to suppress their magical ability. They could be taken from that home or the parents warned against suppressing their child's magical ability if the Ministry felt that child could grow an obscurius in them.

But she doesn't walk away from math, geography, and the like. Arithmancy is math, Potions is chemistry, Herbology/Care of Magical Creatures are biology (or FFA, if you're from the Southern US), History of Magic is History (duh), Charms is just Latin with more gesturing, Divination (taught by Trelawny) is very much Psychology, etc.
Okay, that last one is a bit of a stretch, more like a psychology experiment. But muggle-borns don't give up on muggle subjects. They need those initial subjects to understand the various types of magic.
I'm a pk/army brat. I went to 4 different schools for 1st grade. The first time I spent more than a year at the same school without moving was in middle school. And trust me when I tell you that the cultures in Texas, Kentucky, and Georgia are very different. And there's a different culture between the cities and the rural areas. But they're also very similar.
Muggle-borns don't have to learn a new language. New slang, maybe, but that's normal being in a new area. Just like all small children moving from primary to middle school, there's going to be a focus shift in their education. They need the basics, but a little more. Hogwarts takes that basic knowledge and builds on it with magic instead of science.

Not altogether impossible, but requiring determination. It can be done. The advantage the muggle born witch or wizard has is English as a native language at Hogwarts. Also for the average muggleborn growing up with electricity, central heating etc might not want to live in a cold castle. After the battle homeschooling may be more common with wizarding families wanting to stay together some may tutor muggleborn students as well. I think if a muggleborn's parents refused to send them then hogwarts may match the child with a tutor so at least they get a magical education just might not be as comprehensive as Hogwarts.

Honestly I think different kids will adjust different ways. By the time I was 11, had already had my life uprooted and moved to another city once so having to adjust to a new social environment wouldn't be that drastically unique to me. As a rather... imaginative and wandering minded child the prospect of being able to do magic would have vastly overwhelmed any sense of culture shock, I'd be able to observe enough social norms to blend in gradually over the first few months, perhaps year. I'd also have the advantage of having a very supportive muggle mother who raised me after my deadbeat wizard dad wound up in muggle prison (Not even azkeban) and never heard from again.
At the same time, the house system tends to give muggleborns and unaware half-bloods a support group. Plenty of Muggleborns wind up in Hufflepuff, which is a naturally supportive environment. The really clever academics tend to go to Ravenclaw, where the scholarly will generally find a welcoming party to bring them up to speed. Gryffindor.... is sort of hit or miss to be honest but are GENERALLY shown to be allright. Generally. Slytherin... tend not to get people unaware of magic, but you can't deny there is a very deep sense of fraternity and unity in Slytherin house.
So wherever you end up, your support network is the house system, and the way these students are encouraged to adapt is by adapting their own strengths to the world of magic. A way to let them know 'This is the person you've always been, you just have new ways to apply it'. Or thats how it appears to me.
I'm sure there are certainly cases where students struggle to adapt, but the isolated nature of the school likely discourages many people from droping out without some degree of talking it out. Be it with faculty, other students, whatever. Regardless, I'm sure the students wishes would certainly be taken into account.
What is more interesting to me... is cases where the child and the parents opinions on the matter differ, in both ways. Whether it is a child who doesn't want to be in the magical world with parents who superceed them, or parents who take the whole affair Dursley-ish with children absolutely pleading to get to go.
I'll say first and formost, I'm pretty confident Harry was a fringe case both in the level of harassment the Dursley's underwent, as well as the unsatisfactory degree of first contact being made. Dumbledore wasn't about to let the Dursley's have an opinion on the matter, and that was very much unique. While I believe Dumbledore would take the child's side, in either case, more strongly than the parent's, I think it also likely he didn't generally have the ability to so powerfully overstep is authority.
But what happens when you have, say, entitled parents who refuse to pull their child out of school because of how much easier their life 'could' be with a magical offspring. What happens when you have, say, a child literally run away and manage to get onto the platform against their parents wishes? Its interesting to think about.

there is still the option to have muggle studies at Hogwarts so that you can choose to have a more human life afterward + rejecting the magic in you, can cause more harm in the long run if you don't learn at a certain age how to control the magic within you, that could cause uncontrollable magical outburst which could put you and others in danger, it would also expose muggles to magic in a way the ministry of magic wouldn't be particularly fond of, the whole thing would just end with you being chased by Aurors and send to Askaban - and considering that option, Hogwarts seems to be the better choice
+ also being sent off to a different kind of school and having to adjust to a different set of rules after fourth grade/primary school is quite common in Germany, so maybe I'm being a bit dismissive about this whole dramatization - many parents want their children to go to the Gymnasium, especially those who couldn't go themselves - the only difference, at least in the public school system, is the fact, that we aren't that focused on boarding schools, with the exception of private schools, where this may well be the case
ps. one topic that's completely overlooked, at least in my perspective, is the question of Harry's other side of the family, we only know about his mother's family (aunt Petunia/muggle grandparents) but what's with his father's side - what's with the other Potters, if they're part of the magical society, where is their family tree - his mother is known to be muggle-born, yet his father side was only mentioned once by Sirius and nothing came of it, I mean, shouldn't Harry at least be a bit curious about his magical side of the family? I mean, would it have been that much to ask Dumbledore about his magic side of the family, since every witch and wizard in Britain has to go through Hogwarts, either Dumbledore or McGonagall could have known his grandparents or an aunt or uncle from the magical side or Lupin could have answered some questions
and no, I don't count anything pottermore or any tweet after the fact as cannon, because that is just sloppy world-building and just shows how poorly everything has been thought thru

Being an untrained Wizard would be extremely dangerous. If the Muggleborn was locked down magically too severely.. you end up with an Obscurial. So, I doubt Muggle parents are "left to their own devices" if they chose to forego Hogwarts. Honestly, I think the Headmaster/mistress would "convince" them...or set up a personal tutor. Training is extremely important, especially if the magical world must be kept secret.
As far as being HARDER on Muggleborns.. or Harry...being thrust into a totally new world...well, Ron addresses that as well. Any "gap" is quickly overcome in areas that matter; Hermione excels, Lily excelled.
Discrimination, on the other hand, seems to be very real....but dying out.

The main problem is that muggleborns have to adapt to the wizarding world because if they go back to the muggle world they won’t be able to practice magic and will probably become an obscurus unless there’s a way to take away someone’s magic

Sometimes I feel like Ron It's more like a Slytherin than a Gryffindor. He even made fun of Draco name. At least Malfoy offered his friendship to Harry. There are many times that Ron proven himself to be unworthy of Harry's friendship. One thing that makes me not like Ron was during Goblet Of Fire. When Harry's name was announced by Dumbledore he started to go South. His been friends with Harry for awhile he should have realize that Harry would never Intentionally try to get more glory than he already has.

i dont know, some would be at a major disadvantage, others to a much lesser degree.
an example would be a friend of mine who went from a SHIT inner city school to living with is grandmother and going to a private school that was also a boarding school for non-locals, and from US to UK, and went from doing poorly in school, to being top of the grade each year, he had trouble for a few weeks, but found most of it was just getting use to a different structure then he was use to... an actual structure and expectations, teachers that took the job seriously rather then taking it as a paycheck... or way to have power over others... he had a few bad ones but most of them lasted only their first year or less and didnt come back... he moved back to the US the last year o f highschool, having gone over in jr.high, grandma moved back to the states to deal with some family issues over here(mostly property crap after her sister died and her kids were pissed she didnt leave them any land just a bit of cash, and a few items each... the rest went to my friends grandmother, who had, without telling anybody, set her will up so he will get everything whens he dies... shes in her 90's now, and not showing signs of slowing though.. (hell, she looks like shes in her 60's.....), we became friends within days of him joining the school... took him some time to get back a "normal" accent for a long time it was a weird mix of southern american and british... as his brain tried to shift back out of brit-accent mode... some of his class mates are the ones who got an exchange setup, funded by their end, that traded some kids from our school for some at theirs for most of a school year, so he got to see some of his old friends for most of that year... the kids from his school had as much trouble adapting to the changes as he had, but also, saw up sides and positives to our system back then, infact a few of them ended up with the families offering to allow them to stay and finish highschool here after talking with parents only one who was offered went back...but the family hosted his sister for the rest of highschool as, the family needed him around and she needed to get away from them and the school she was in... she did great here... was shocked she didnt get kicked from school for punching somebody...it was amusing..."he grabbed your arse...he was arsking for it"

"I think Hermione Granger was one of the ones who adjusted well enough because she was so determined but it's not exactly the case for everyone."
But you didn't give any example of any muggle-born who didn't adjust, and I don't remember hearing of one. The muggle-borns I remember all did well/had a great time: Hermione, Colin Creevy and his brother, Harry's mother...

This is just all too true I mean imagine being a muggleborn in Slytherin, constantly bombarded by the mud blood bullying by your pears. I realize many people are going to try to argue that I’m biased because J.K. was biased by the way she wrote the books. I will just say this Mcgonagall made the decision to banish the entire Slytherin house to the dungeons for a Reason!

@@MrJoueurdusalon J.K. Rowling actually wrote a welcome to Slytherin letter on Pottermore a few years ago that said that there were a few Slytherins with at least one muggle parent. And too be fair the definition of muggle born in the wizarding world is pretty loose itself.

    • @GryffindorScholar
      @GryffindorScholar 2 роки тому

Heck if you research the wizarding world deep enough you find that there were members of the family of Gaunt (direct) descendants of the house of Slytherin that married a muggle here and there. To learn more about that go ahead and look up the history of Ilvermorny, that should be it’s own stand alone cinematic film.

@@GryffindorScholar Well, it's simple if you have two Muggle parents you are a Muggleborn and in the books it is understood that no Muggleborn has been in Slytherin.
