The Ministry Of Magic Is EVIL and CORRUPT

  • The ministry of magic is a very unusual organisation. They try to do what they think is good but are actually bad, evil, corrupt and really are the most backwards form of government. Just wanna highlight that point again, they do what they think is the right thing even though everyone can tell from a mile away that it’s not. It’s been that way for years so it’s kinda hard to want them to succeed. Theres just so much corruption and it starts right from the top with the minister of magic himself, well several of them but we’ll talk about that shortly. Even when voldemort was mounting his assault on the ministry I was just like, am I supposed to feel sorry for them? Let me tell you what I mean.

Fudge was better as a peace time Minister. His true colors as both a wizard and a politician could be seen when he gave himself Order of Merlin 1st class: This is not a man you want during war time. It's a surprise that Voldemort didn't just leave him in the Ministry so they'd continue being impotent

Fudge and Umbridge tried to get Harry expelled for using magic to save his 'muggle' cousin Dudley, who knew he was magical. As such, the law of secrecy, about using magic in the presence of muggles, would not apply. Therefore Harry had the right to use magic in a life threatening situation. The fact that Fudge threatens to have the law changed shows his bias against Harry, to the entire Wizegamot.

Rufus Scrimgeour was a good man. He was just in the wrong kind of job, in the wrong time. Rufus was not a perfect man, per se since Kingsley Shacklebolt turned into a far better minister after the series ended, but Rufus Scrimgeour was still considered a hero. He didn't rat out Harry to Voldemort before he died, and he put up quite a fight against him and his Death Eater followers. If it was that fat toad, Fudge, he would have totally squealed.

I’ve never been quite sure of what the purpose of the Ministry is, and it just seems to be a useless, needlessly bureaucratic department in which it’s unclear what the Minister can actually do and to what extent.
He seems to be an elective dictator, but as a Minister - with the idea that he’s just another one of the British cabinet- he’s theoretically under the Crown in terms of the power structure. So I have to say it’s quite amusing to think that Pius would have had to swear allegiance to the Queen in a public oath to appear legitimate lol.
Regardless, most aspects of the wizarding world seem to function rather well on their own. Places like Hogwarts or St Mungos don’t exactly need funding since they can magic things that they need themselves, the aurors seem like a self-sufficient body without government oversight and aside from being just a figurehead of the magical community, I don’t know what the Minster can do or what his powers actually are. And even then, it’s not like they have the ability to collect tax revenue nor does the Minister have direct agents working under him so how can he enforce his edicts?
It seems to be incredibly arbitrary, archaic, corrupt, deliberately out of touch, bureaucratic and without any purpose or reason to it. To be honest, the Ministry is the best argument for anarchism I’ve ever heard lol.

Granted, she wasn't supposed to be working on that case, but they did nothing, not even listen to her, with the valuable information. To top it off, the death penalty is used more often than prison from what we see in the films. Instead of trying to capture Credence, the order was to kill on sight whereas Grindlewald... One problem is, the people of the WW see themselves as eternally under siege - by us. To an extent they are correct, but it renders the Ministry all-powerful in that anything they judge as serving the terms of the SoS is thereby legal and must be supported. The other problem is, whether it functions or not is a function of who the MfM is. Have a Bagnold or the like, things are fine. Have a Fudge? The flaws of the MfM become a problem writ large. Worst of all, I don't know how much Kingsley and then Hermione can really do as far as reform. If they don't reduce the MfM's potentially dictatorial powers, recurrence is inevitable. If they do, they first and foremost reduce their own power to enact reforms. Multi-level Catch-22.

From what I can gather from what I've been able to learn, nothing has really changed. She will just put Band-Aids on the problems without any serious reform. Sure, she might be good at magic, but she's not very good at critical thinking. I'd say the vast majority of Ravenclaw house, including their head, would run rings around her in the critical thinking department. True, genuine reform takes critical thinking, not hero worship of wizards who are supposed to be good, whether they have a long beard or a scar on their forehead. No, if anyone thinks that Hermione is going to make things better, I have a bridge to sell you.

I feel like the Ministry Of Magic just exists so wizards can be employed without having to interact with muggles. JK Rowling said there was only 3000 wizards in the UK.
Look at the scene where Harry first visits the Ministry Of Magic in Order Of The Phoenix. There's easily hundreds of wizards in one shot who are arrived at the Ministry at that time.
Doesn't even cover the wizards who are already there, arriving later or spouses of Ministry employees living off their partners income.
Even the people who work in Diagon Alley are probably Ministry employees since Diagon Alley is only really used during school holidays since most shops only sell school supplies and all the kids are away at Hogwarts most of the year.
Diagon Alley shops are probably just side businesses for the wizards who own them.
The only other employers aside from the Ministry in the UK would be Hogwarts, the Daily Prophet, shops in Hogsmeade and Quidditch teams.
All those employers combined would probably only come to less that 200 jobs.
If it weren't for the Ministry wizards would either be using magic to live off the grid or working in Apple stores.
And if this theory is right then that would mean that the Ministry is only paying money to their employees out of the Ministry's treasury at which point the Wizards only pay a small amount back in tax so the Ministry is hemorrhaging money in order to pay thousands of employees
Which is probably why Lucius Malfoy had so much influence since he was super rich and donating money to the ministry.
Aside from keeping wizards and muggles separate I can't see why the Ministry would continue to operate the way it does.

Corrupt? Definitely. Evil? I don't think so, or rather I don't think they were malicious. There were DEFINITELY malicious and evil people inside, but there were also those trying their best to make the most of a corrupt establishment, like Madam Bones. Personally, I think Dumbledore squandered the best chance to reform the Ministry when he refused the post, allowing the corruption to fester rather than make the hard choices. But then again, this whole world seems full of people that just can't help but drop the ball.

Dumbledore rejected that post because he didn't feel worthy of it due to his past misfortunes. This is why he preferred to become headmaster of Hogwarts to positively influence future generations. And what Cornelius Fudge did shows just how corrupt the Ministry of Magic was, not only because of what he did himself, but also because he could do it so easily. Cornelius should to go to prison after his immoral actions, which should also be illegal. But that didn't happen because apparently in the wizarding world there are no laws against the abuse of power.

Hagrid couldn't have been the one if the attacks were still happening while he wasn't there. As for Dumbledore, I didn't see the Ministry sending anyone to the school in search of the Chamber. Those jerks didn't do anything to find the Chamber, and they have the guts to say Dumbledore didn't do enough? I didn't trust Fudge from that point on. I was so happy when he got fired.

I was saying a few weeks back how I thought perhaps the minister of magic was corrupted or perhaps even working for Voldermort in secret which is why they turned a blind eye to so many issues in the books and movies before being overun! It always felt like it was part of the plot and alot of them in the ministry were not so much death eaters, however. They were involved in a secret and silent way. Umbridge is a good example of corruption and evil inside the ministry. Things have improved exceptionally and the murder and assult of muggle borns, half bloods, pure bloods and muggles alike in both communities is next to non existent (rare occasions. When it comes to ministry of magic - I think there is another problem with it - The statue of secrecy... Basically, it fit's into your point about this world refusing to change...
basically, i feel like the wizarding world is very, very isolated from muggle's world, and the ministry uses the image of muggles from few centuries ago, as people discriminating wizards and "burning them on stakes" as means to keep their power - basically - they use fear to keep power over wizarding world.
Example of how isolated this world is from muggle's world, would be Arthur weasley - he is fascinated by them, but he is also completely clueless about even meaningless stuff in muggle world - like rubber duck or not understanding how entrance to the subway/london underground works.
Also, i feel that if the world of HP were to be realistic at all... then while in 90s, the statue of secrecy would be able to work out somewhat (no social media, no youtube or other video platforms no quick internet connection, informations spread much slower than nowadays, mainly through newspapers or TV)... Then I could not see it working in present day - I know that HP universe isn't supposed to be realistic... But realistically, if in present day, some wizards would cast the spell in public, or have a fight or anything that could convince people that wizards exist.. then not even single obliviate or hundreds of thunderbirds would fix this, because all you need is one video going viral, and then the entire world knows, and what would ministry of magic would do? obliviate almost 8 billion people?

I got busy writing a long reply to a comment and decided to possibly use some of it in my own comment. The Ministry was a mess but I am going to comment on Harry's trial in the fifth book.
After Umbridge failed to kill Harry with Dementors she started a criminal proceeding against him. Harry had broken no law, in fact he had done the Ministry of Magic a favor. Had Dudley been killed Vernon would have told all to any Muggle who'd listen.
A father angered over the death of his son is not something a wise man or woman would ever want to deal with. Vernon would have exposed the magical world for revenge. Had he or Petunia cared about Harry they would have gotten after the Ministry of Magic.
A side note. A healthy family structure is not too valued today but had Harry had a real family there would have been hell to pay for the Ministry taking action against Harry. Strong family structures a valuable and should be sought.
    Then there's Harry's trial.
Because of their personal interest in the case Fudge and Umbridge were not judicially qualified to sit in judgement on Harry.
Fudge abrupt rescheduling of the trial suggests an intent to try in absentia and that Harry Potter was supposed to arrive at the Ministry and discover he had been tried in absentia and was already convicted.
Fudge's handling of the trial was terrible. His opening statement,
"inquiry into offenses committed by Harry James Potter..."
implies that Harry is already guilty and converts the trial into a sentencing hearing.
Fudge's questioning Harry from the bench was totally judicially improper.
Harry should not have answered the questions.
Dumbledore's assertion, after the charges had been read, that the evidence that the Dark Lord was back was judicially improper as there was nothing in the charges about Harry asserting that the Dark Lord was back.
If Dumbledore asserts that the Minister has to know it's still no good as a formal trial is not the place for convincing the Minister of the Dark Lord's return.
Fudge tried to get the Wizengamot to vote on a verdict without any argument again showing he wanted to convert the trial to a sentencing hearing.
Dumbledore should not have tried to be an attorney. He should have gotten Harry a barrister that knew about magic. You never have a non-attorney defend a major court case.
Fudge's and Umbridge's actions at Hogwarts after Harry's acquittal were an obvious attempt to reverse the trial. Draco on at least two occasions tried to provoke Harry into a fight. The first time Ron and Hermione stopped him. The second time Harry whaled the tar out of Draco and Draco started that fight.
Parents are at fault in the story for not demanding the removal of Umbridge.
Of course it is a story and I may be over analyzing it.

That make me think about Bartemius Crouch Sr. who was so important and powerful, and a "good guy" that no one ask for his relationship with his family. If you didn’t read the book, let me explain: Crouch Sr was abusing and was a strict and absent father to his son, Crouch Jr. That is first why he was a Voldemort adept, for a loving father and protector. His mother was an important part of his life, she saved him actually. Crouch jr was in Azkaban, and his mother begged for Sr to get him out so he accepted and switch the mother and the son with a poly juice potion, so the mother died at Azkaban, and Crouch jr was free. That’s not even the big of the bad part. Starting to abusing his son again and the son starting to simp about Voldemort again, Bartemius Crouch Senior put an IMPERIUS CURSE on his teenager son to adult, with the invisible cloak on day and night on for years at the point that the house elf had pity of him. Until he was powerful enough to defend himself and stop the curse, and be free again at the Quidditch World Cup.

    • @michaelodonnell824
      @michaelodonnell824 2 роки тому

Most Governments DIVIDE power between various Branches and thus, in most democracies, the "Head of Government" and the "Head of State" are rarely the same person. In the US where they are, their power is shared (or Limited) by the House of Representatives, the Senate and the US Supreme Court, ALL of which are Independent of the President. In the UK, given the complete Figurehead status of the Monarchy, the Prime Minister is relatively All Powerful but is still (theoretically) answerable to Parliament and (ACTUALLY) answerable to their own Party. Further, regular elections limit the power of ANY Head of Government.
Also, while under Trump, Fox News broadcast whatever Trump said, whether it was real or not, MOST of the Media generally take a sceptical attitude to Government.
HOWEVER, in the Wizarding World, there is no Separation of Powers AND the Media appear to be totally (except for "The Quibbler") under the control of the Ministry.
Further, Regular elections don't seem to exist and a New Minister is "Chosen" (and it is never quite said How) only on the resignation or death of the previous Minister.
Thus the Wizarding World seems to have all the attributes of a One Party Dictatorship, and that is not a healthy form of government

  • @milanka882
    @milanka882 Рік тому

I think the problem goes well beyond the ministry myself. Look at what sort of learning environment Hogwarts is. Let's take an honest look at what Hogwarts was like under Albus Dumbledore. He was a terrible headmaster, and I know that is heretical to say, but it's true. For a wizard that is supposed to be the most powerful wizard of all time, he bailed during the chamber of secrets when the school needed him, he did not close down the school when he should have during that time, he allowed Dolores Umbridge to walk all over him rather than doing what he should have done considering that he was in charge and let his staff to a revolt. He never meaningfully stood up to the ministry about having to mentors around the castle. He was okay with child exploitation and child abuse regarding Harry. He lied to his staff, he manipulated his staff, he used his staff, he was completely neglectful of basic child safety, and had no intention of employing any support staff to ensure a duty of care to students who were locked up in a boarding school I mean… 70 to one staff student ratio regarding heads of house? Really? 🙄 I mean… Even really good heads of house like Flitwick and Sprout Who really cared for their charges would not be able to fully realistically take care of the needs of 70 students under their care at any given time. So much duty of care neglected by Dumbledore towards both his students and his staff, and I have a feeling that this is normal… The norm… For Hogwarts. With this sort of toxic environment, and it seems as though so many parents seem to turn a blind eye to it because they too are the products of a toxic environment, it's not really surprising that the visiting world is going to be a seriously toxic place and a dysfunctional society. The dysfunctional government reflect that. And if anyone thinks that it is going to be any better in the hands of people like Hermione Granger, who's "critical thinking and "skills stretch as far as following a different hero or personality cult rather than any sort of critical look at the dysfunction of the visiting society, then I have a bridge to sell you. She will merely put Band-Aids over the problem. She is not the solution, and neither are any of her ilk. The wizarding World needs genuine reformers who are capable of serious, in-depth critical thinking and critical analysis, not merely shifting the hero worship from one personality cult to another. Society also needs people who are able to articulate to this critical thought and put their views across in an articulate way and that be able to influence the public through their articulating of critical thinking. Now from my standpoint, this type of reformer and these types of reforms are most likely to come out of Ravenclaw House. As far as Hogwarts reform, think people such as Filius Flitwick, and for those going forth, perhaps students… Former students at least… That he has mentored. But I have to be really honest and say, I don't personally think that J.K. Rowling has the skill or nous to be able to write credible characters who are capable of this high level of critical thinking and reform. Personally, I think it's why Ravenclaw house doesn't get much of a big role in the story and neither does its head. Because rolling is pretty much in capable of writing these sorts of seriously dynamic and complex characters with very complex and critical ways of thinking. I should probably end and say I'm not exactly a hater of the franchise. But I'm not a fan that I once was as my own critical thinking skills have developed and begun to take shape, I have applied them to the series and can see some serious holes. I personally think that stories like Hogwarts legacy and fantastic beasts are much better stories than the original Harry Potter books for that reason. At least they don't involve child exploitation, that's a start.
