Thank you for this very informative video! I would always leave the salon with a dog ear pushing forward on the heavier side. The stylist would act like I was a picky client for mentioning it. They would pull up both sides to show me it was evenly cut. And basically gaslight my concerns. I’ll use this technique from now on. Don’t layer the back shorter than the front and only layer the top section to keep the bottom looking full. Thanks again!

My husband has been cutting my hair since May 2020. We've watched a million YT videos and tried a million different cutting techniques. Used this method yesterday and wow, what a difference! I have a ton of baby fine hair, bob length but we trusted that you said "any length, any texture" and it worked. We're never taking the texturizing shears so far into the length again. I thought I needed that because I have such thick hair. We were out and about yesterday and someone complimented my hair!! That hasn't happened in YEARS. Thank you Justin and Dionna!

This is an amazing technique! I've worked at supercuts, but even in Cosmo school, they don't teach to point cut the layers like that. Just to really make your guide for how short you want the layers at the top then connect the guide to the base which can cause the layers to look choppy if you're not careful. So I will definitely be trying this the next time I cut my mom's hair since I don't work in the industry anymore.

@@Ange777ify when I cut the back side i make sure my hair is wet and i comb it all to the back side of my head. That way there will be an easier way of keeping it even. Then i gather them all together once again and trim them once more. Then i divide my the back side of my hair in half. Then comb the hair all forward, keeping it all straight downward to bring the ends all together on each side. Then i trim them just slightly . Hopefully this will help you. Its really a very simple way to get it even. But not so simple to explain here. Good luck. If you have any questions i will try to answer them if i can. I just cut my hair into a long lob (style a-line bob). I absolutely love it. Women can rock any style at any age. I never listen to the nay sayers or the ones saying well bc of your age you can’t! Lol 😂 Watch me! But seriously it is very gratifying to cut your own hair, do it well and people think you spent tons in a salon. BUT I would let Justin or Brad Mondo cut my hair! There is an interesting guy named Brian Ciacca from Australia. He is interesting but takes hours to cut hair. I asked him why he used only really young women since many like me are middle aged or older and he said women our age won’t do it bc of our age and feeling uncomfortable. I stopped watching him after that as I found his answer to me to be very sexist against older women.

I drive an hour plus to go to the person that has been cutting and coloring my hair for over 20 years. It's a drive to get to her, and she's not inexpensive--but I won't go anywhere else. She's forgotten more than most hairstylists will ever know-- mostly because many don't approach their trade with passion and pride. I consider Tina an artist, and I respect her so much for what she does. I know how difficult it is to find a hairstylist--and watching Mr. Justin's videos makes me appreciate Tina. He sounds a lot like her. 😃Thank God for people who are true professionals and treat their craft like the art it is.

Wow. Very impressive. I'm not a stylist, but it's fascinating to watch a true artist explain their process. (You wife is lovely, by the way). I would be very interested to seen the ends of the hair, before and after you cut, under a microscope...to see exactly what's going on. Thank you.

Your wife is gorgeous and seems so kind! My hair looked pretty close to hers in style (Have a great stylist in the bay area California) BUT with my more ordinary face, I got tired of the length and got a layered bob 3 years ago. I get more compliments on my hair when it’s in a more structured style and feel more confident.
However, I’m now in the process of growing it out again so seeing this video has been inspirational reminding me of what I’ll have in about a year if I stay patient :-)

What a wonderful video to see you in action!
I think I have the same hairstyle but I just don't style them in waves and I do, flip my parting from side to side so my hair stylist keeps equal bangs on both sides!
It will be such a dream come true to someday get a hair cut from you!
Loving the van life videos, insta stories and this minimalistic house! Totally understand the 'moment' Dionna had and honestly, that is what keeps thongs real amd relatable! Its like saying a person would be lyingnof he/she said there has never been a fight in his/her marriage. Much love and light to both of you ❤️. Hopefully the next 'home' is North Carolina 😊😍🤗

I love how you cut your wife's hair! I had grown mine out for a few years. I have curly hair but like to straighten it often. My niece cut mine for me and used the texture Scissors. Of course, she went down too far! So I have a less-than-desirable look than I wanted. The back of my hair is way shorter than my front. And the sides, well there a mess. She left one side a little chopper than the other. So I just keep it curly for now. The curls look more stringy than before and the front just looks dry and more damaged. It's harder to brush out with the layers being so chopped. So I've broken and pulled a lot out, with all the tangles it's created. Your way looks much better.

Well I’m way past 65 and have a pretty minimalist approach to skin care and makeup, but luckily with good genes, healthy diet and keeping active , I don’t focus on looking younger, just happy , involved with those around me, a little mascara and I’m good to go. The people I see around me that look much older than their age seem to be unhappy, solitary and dissatisfied with their lives. I so appreciate Justin, he reminds me of what I should be doing to look my best.
    Have a great day 💖

Awesome video Justin! I just gave myself this cut and I'm very happy with the result!! I cut about 2" off the back length, it's just below my shoulders, framed my face to mid cheek level and used the layering technique yoou shared. It's a better cut than MANY I've paid for over the years. TYTYTY! Happy trails😎 Darcy from Wisconsin

Isn't that the truth, I've paid for WAAAAY to many bad cuts, some stylists see curly hair and they run, last place I was the women looked at me flatly and stated in front of the entire salon, I don't do curly - Awe geez I said, I've waited six weeks for this appointment and being the hair orphan now, I had to find a way, Justin saved the day. Thank you Justin!!!

  • @flowersafeheart

So now I know to ask a hairstylist to keep layers on the light side and texturize just the last inch! For the people below saying they cut it this way themselves, my question is: how?! How can you reach back there and if you do that'd mess up the angle, right? Feel free to make a video on how to cut and layer, or at least layer one's own hair! A very cheap place like Hair Cuttery can do a blunt cut but I've even seen them butcher that (totally crooked) and I'd be nervous to let them layer since the really cheap places can't guarantee stylists are very experienced at all or necessarily very good. Though it at least get those split ends off so am very glad it exists for those of us on a tight budget!

Justin it is so difficult to find the right stylist. It"s also a downer when they won't watch your video. I love your videos. I would love this hairstyle. Dionna is a great addition! I understand when/if she gets upset with you! My mom was a stylist in the 40's (you know when perm machines came down from the celing!) If she cut my hair wrong I'd get so upset (age 18 -23.) Bless her heart! I'm in my 60's now & I'd love to have her back - but NOT to cut my hair! Lol
However, I really need you as a wonderful stylist and love to see your wife! She has the greatest expression when you're teaching!

Wow, you described several issues that I am currently dealing with in my recent cut with a new stylist. I have thick graying hair with low lights and highlights put in. (I recently moved and found a new stylist.) I was letting my hair grow out to chin length but wanted layers that when I ran my hand through my hair it would all just lay in place. What I ended up with is exactly what you said, dog ears and over texturing so my sides look thin. Very bummed 😞. I am going to watch your other videos to see what else you share. Loved the outcome of your wife's style.

I've always said that men are better hair stylist. That's just my opinion. I had a guy that used to cut my hair when I was in High school and I haven't been able to find one since. I love the feeling of that wispyness. My hair is thick and it just feels so good to get a good haircut.
