In Lithuania 99% of gas stations has LPG. Thats why my XC70 3.2l is running lpg. averages about 17l/100km, which is equivalent to 7l/100km of diesel (LPG is 0.55 euro now). Diesel XC70 consumes around 9l/100km.
By the way you could put LPG system in your 6 cylinder for about 1000 euro here in Lithuania.
Well in Poland diesel can run on ON + LPG. Toyotas is poor for LPG valves with atkinson had hard life.

calm down its more like 60-70% of gas stations, but I live in big city so I have no problem getting my LPG, got like 4 stations to choose from in 5km radius
It always surprised me why LPG has never became popular in UK. In Poland where I'm originally from at some point around 20% of cars where running on it as it was way cheaper and more ecological.
It will eventually kill the engine, I ran two vehicles in Australia on LPG both started with a misfire, both died as diaphragms and other internal parts of the engine need lubing by the fact petrol is a liquid, by running 50% petrol and 50% LPG for 80,000miles, you will need a new engine.
@@davec1942 Not really, depends how well the conversion is done and how you maintain it. Been running LPG in my 2001 Subaru for over 10 years now without significant problems. Car has about 300k kilometers now, last 80 on LPG. Just have to keep an eye on valve clearances and ideally use some sort of valve saver fluid system, which helps with lubrication. But of course, its harsher on the engine than petrol and the LPG system can be very complicated. No doubt it shortens the life of the engine. But maybe not as much as people think.
I think it's mainly because the government really pushed diesels when they should have been pushing LPG too
Actually, it was HUGELY popular for a short period in the 1990s and 2000s - you saw a huge amount of Range Rovers and other big engined vehicles get converted to LPG. However, the emergence of decent diesel engined cars that were being heavily pushed, plus a few horror stories from shoddy LPG conversions exploding, meant that everyone switched to diesels instead.
@@davec1942 I have had mine on LPG since it had ~80.000km, now it has over 220.000 and no issues whatsoever (apart from the age of the vehicle in general/wear etc.)

Years back I spent £500 on a Volvo V40 Bifuel with factory fitted LPG. It was a great setup- the LPG tank was in the spare wheel well, the filler was under the same flap as the petrol one, and it had two fuel gauges in the instrument cluster. Saved me a fortune on fuel. Not sure why LPG never took off 🤔
It did in eastern europe. Hell I hate LPG and diesel cars, but the problem is that really about 80% of cars over here are diesels, and about 50% of petrol cars have been converted to LPG, especially anything above 2 litres in displacement good luck finding an unmolested petrol one.
It is rather economical and LPG is about half the price of petrol or diesel per litre, only real costs are the lack of boot space depending on the car and how it was installed, mostly they put a tank in the boot, but some are more discreet and hide the tank underneath the car, and you have to pay for a "safety" test on the system every 5 years.
I really think alternative fuels are interesting. I drive a diesel personally, but I have lots of friends who drive on ethanol blends. E30 is popular in my part of the US, part ethanol and gasoline. cant get e30 out of the pumps but lots of people blend it themselves. straight E85 is abundant here as well, just pricey for the MPG.
it should be noted, I live in the US. Diesel is not nearly as common for passenger vehicles as it is overseas. a majority of our infrastructure vehicles run on diesel however. I live in the northeast pennsylvania region, where corn is grown in abundance. Ethanol fuel, as a consequence, is very cheap compared to other areas.
That's because the feds subsidize ethanol; gotta win the Iowa caucuses somehow! We're all paying for those corn fields. Also, it's not a clean fuel and it affects food supplies. Not sure ethanol is a winner.
I get car's but petrol pick ups/trucks at 4 or 5 litre are insane . Isn't ethanol corn subsidised like a lot? And why corn it's a really bad choice sugar beat is exsland like Brasil uses. There's a big fuss hear because we went to E10 and old car's and they are old and only a few of them about can not use it and have to find supper unleaded ie e5

@@gingernutpreacher That's how lobbies go. I seem to remember corn syrup is a popular cheap sweetener in the US as well (assuming that's also made from corn and not a misnomer). A lot of decisions like this are apparently made on satisfying industries and business profits.
Here in Trinidad, we're trying to move to CNG (Compressor Natural Gas)
It's cheaper than regular gas, supposedly lasts just as long and costs a fraction of the price.
The only downsides are:
- Many gas stations don't have CNG
- The CNG tank takes up a lot of space in the trunk
- The CNG installation costs a lot of money (≥ $15,000), which is about $2,200 USD or £1830
Cng sucks. Very low calorie density and there are no stations for long distance driving
@@TheSuperBoyProject done 100000km in our SEAT CNG in Germany. Costs €1.00-1.20 a kilo. 15 kg get's me 350km. Range inc the 9 litre petrol tank is 450-500km. It's superb. Stations are dead easy to find in europe. The UK is crap for CNG.
I've driven on LPG for 20 years , and my late father was one of the first to have it installed in 60's. I remember the time when i was a kid and he was buying gas canisters indented for domestic use and having a manual pump with a rod to manually pup the gas in the tank ( so You can do that also if You are up for the challenge and evade LPG sold on pumps that include tax- so its even cheaper).

Having 2 lpg cars with 200k Kms on both. I can attest to the fact that it’s absolutely fantastic! i30 1.6 NA and SLK 200
One other upside of LPG - it has higher octane rating, more predictable and stable detonation, meaning you can have much tighter timings. For turbo engines it's basically a no-brainer since it's allows maps that would never run on petrol. My last 4 cars were all turbo cars and all of them i fitted with LPGs. In addition to much cheaper fuel it also allows more power IF you get the right injectors and computer. Here in Bulgaria basically 100% of the petrol stations have at least 1 LPG pump and like 90% of the petrol cars are fitted with an LPG system (€0.45/L vs €1.44/L is also a no-brainer). There are downsides though - they require more frequent service and they make your engine run a bit hotter than it would be on petrol alone. And because most of what is coming out of the exhaust is basically water, they speed up the corrosion of the exhaust system. At some point cat deletion is not only possible, but it becomes necessary.

It doesn't get gridlocked cuz people are either too afraid to get on it, or avoid the area all together. I would love to see the traffic in the surrounding area and amount of accidents.

@@davidellis4031 At rush hour there can be a few trucks and the odd school coach going round, plus the cars. It all just flows when locals are using it, it's the ditherers that cause issues. Haven't seen an accident on it for well over 2 years, it just works.

G'day from Australia.
I was recently talking to a travelling salesperson about LPG as the fleet of cars they have are 10 year old factory dedicated LPG cars. He said we have the same problem here. LPG is slowly fazing out, and he said it's due to the expense of maintaining the LPG pumps, which is why LPG is slowly being fazed out. He said the majority of LPG pumps he comes across are broken, and the answer the service station attended gives is due to the expense of maintenance or parts is why it's not working.
this is so interesting, in Poland it costs around £400 to install it, plus (if installed correctly) it can make your car a tiny bit more powerful! where I live it's around £0,71/l and EVERY gas station has AT LEAST two lpg pumps

In my country there is a lot of lpg cars so you need to test the system every 5 years

Poland is a far superior country that the UK now, sounds crazy but it is UK is a 3rd world country now adays. My girlfriend is Polish and we vist 3 times a year

Great content, Ive been running LPG cars for years and although the price has increased (used to be£0.45/l) it hasnt gone up by anywhere near as much as regular fuels and seems more stable. It means I can run my 300bhp 4.4 V8 for alot less than its 180bhp diesel equivalent. I have never understood why more people dont use it and its going to be a massive shame to see it dissapear, especially in favor of something that 90% of people cant afford! I am currently weighing up the benefits of installing a home LPG tank for my cars.
this system is similar to something we have here in Argentina called GNC which is really popular due to the low costs. Basically is Natural Gas (aka Fossil gas) which is compressed into a tank and it's really cheap to operate, all taxis use that system for that reason
its different. Tanks is under higher pressure. LPG is so much safer low pressure in tank
Exists in Europe too, funnily enough called CNG here.

I have been driving on LPG for the last 7+ years in my accord, its brilliant in every way, you get all the upsides of both petrol and diesel, without any downsides

My dad's father used to use "drip gas" in his car to get to work in the 50s. It was ..... wait for it... FREE. They had natural gas pipelines in West Virginia (may have been related to the coal industry) and at sub stations they would collect the condensate from the lines. It was some flammable liquid that leached off the natural gas. It smelled of sulfur and ran terribly.. but it was FREE. Only worked on the older simple low compression engines of an earlier time.
Depending on where you live LPG is much cheaper to run.
Example: We live in Bulgaria currently where 95 octane at its most expensive was 3 quid per litre, LPG was 1 quid per litre. My mate drives an old Peugeot 406 2.0l petrol converted to LPG. He gets around 40mpg on LPG and 42 on Petrol, so his savings are almost 3 times better. Plus emissions on running LPG are so low, his road tax is drastically lower.
Couple of downsides to LPG cars. You are not allowed to park in underground car parks due to the high pressure tank in the boot. Secondly LPG erodes the engine so it could lead to more expensive maintenance but that really depends on the model of the car as going back to my mates Peugeot 406, it has ran over 150k miles on LPG without a single fault with regular maintenance. Thirdly modern direct fuel injection cars are difficult to convert and quite expensive, plus very temperamental if not installed correctly, but in the long run it will still save you quite a bit of money, even if you dont do many miles per year. Over all we prefer LPG then petrol and even diesel. =]

I used to have LPG converted STI Impreza for many years. With good LPG systems you also are adding stand alone ECU for LPG fuel management. I converted mine in performance oriented shop in Poland and dyno proved 28hp gain on LPG compared to 98e petrol. - Power gain was from stand alone ecu that got mapped with performance goals in mind. (Car had intake and full exhaust) but not mapped... So STI did actually run smoother and made more power on LPG
I have a mk1 gs300 running on LPG, can be a pain in the arse to find a pump sometimes but I've learnt to plan around it.
Cheapest way to drive a roaring 2J around. Gotta consider extra costs like getting the LPG kit serviced.
And, it was cheaper to run than my 1l K11 Micra when petrol went up to 2 quid!
LPG is still very common here in Australia, however its barely used and only by old Ford Falcons, and Commodores which came LPG or Bi-Fuel from the factory
i have been driving on lpg all my life (not much driving around 120k km and it has been so cheap ever since then; Love it.
It depends on the country. I drove from Romania to Greece and I used almost no petrol, only LPG with a new Dacia Sandero bifuel. You can find LPG at any gas station in Romania and Bulgaria and they refuel for you, so no hassle there. I made a 2200 km road trip and spent like 150 euros on fuel. It makes it a lot better with a factory LPG system where you see both your fuel economies and fuel levels on the dash. I like it!
The factory fitted lpg is only good up until the injectors die due to the dirty fuel in the countries you mentioned (around 15-30k km's) , then you go into astronomically priced oem replacement parts , an aftermarket conversion is a much better solution and apart from not having the "fuel economy" info on your dash the aftermarket conversion is identical in driveability and economy compared to the factory one (provided you use quality aftermarket parts , like aftermarket landirenzo , landirenzo is also what most brands used for the oem installations anyways)
@@martin518441 I have don't know where are you from but obviously you have no clue. Romania and Bulgaria have excellent quality fuel, they have to go by the same standards as any other EU country. On the other hand, Dacia doesn't make their own LPG kit, Dacias come with landirenzo installations from the factory and they are actually makr more power on LPG than on petrol because the emissions of LPG are lower and the engine can run on higher boost and still produces latest emissions. Romania is full of taxis with 200-300k kms running the factory installation. I personally owned a Dacia with LPG and basically the only thing it can do is run cheaply. Now I have an old 1.9 TDI and it costs twice as much on fuel.

Oh, and I have owned a hole list of cars on LPG and they were brilliant. Loved them. Just cheap motoring, especially if you drive something that takes a lot of gas.
Hey lads! Im watching you from Bulgaria and i noticed the LPG system on this Lexus when i watched how Ethan was removing the 2JZ from the car. I was quate suprised when i saw the LPG and now that i see this video... i have to tell you guys that in Bulgaria is more common to see a car that is running on a petrol/LPG than only on petrol! Maybe 70-80% of the petrol cars here have LPG systems. I am driving a car with LPG system (VW Golf 3 - 1.8 90hp big power hah) when my main car is broken (citroen xantia 1993 - running on an old cooking oil and engine oil). We have a Peugeot 309 sedan 1.3 i think with LPG, we have several cars for spare parts that have LPGs... maybe 3-4. So yeah its very common in Bulgaria, 3 friends in my friend group are driving cars with LPG haha. I love your videos, your ideas, your passion, keep going, you are "top gear" tier!
About 2 years i rented Renault Symbol/Dacia Sandero which was originally equipped with LPG in addition to the normal petrol tank.. i was in a country where LPG price was 20% of Petrol price.. yes the LPG consumption is higher than the petrol but the price saving was amazing also i didn't feel any difference in the car performance when i switched from LPG to petrol at all... also 2nd best advantage if you fill both LPG and petrol tanks you can go for very long without the need for refueling in case you going long trip and there is no petrol stations on the way

Long time ago I had a Calibra LPG converted,and it did not need any petrol just LPG, it was so cheap and economical, was brilliant.
You guys could’ve filled up at applegreen in Swindon they have a lpg pump aswell!
In thailand, LPG now costs 0.4 british pounds per litre, and this is already an inflated price. Before the pandemic it was about 0.25-0.3 pounds a litre. The system installation cost is typically not more than 700 pounds.
Fun fact, in Thailand people are starting to put LPG systems in diesel cars as well. Im not sure the percentage of what the system uses, but it uses diesel, LPG, and water simultaeneously.

I have myself a 3rd car with LPG. A Saab 9-5, Infiniti G35 coupe, and VW Passat 1.8t, and its glorious fuel if you keep in mind your valves have a hard time on pure LPG. In Poland LPG is even cheaper (around 50 to 60 p per liter, while PB is around 1,3£). Well tuned LPG helps your engine in favor of slightly higher fuel consuption. My VW just hit 515000kms (roughly 322000 miles) and have been driving on LPG for over 22 years and over 500000kms while having just 1 full head regeneration last year. Saved tons of money and i will never change my opinion on this fuel

I have LPG - I drive my 2.8 turbocharged Saab 9-3 as cheap as my previous car - VW Lupo with 1.4 TDI - twice the displacement, thrice the horsepower, ten times more safety and 100 times more fun!

I worked with a guy who in the late 90's or early 2000's his company car was a Vectra dual fuel - ie came with a factory fit LPG set up and a switch on the dash to flick between fuels. His car also developed a misfire when running LPG
The power difference petrol vs LPG comes down to finding a good shop to do the install. LPG has more octanes and can be tuned with better map than stock, to offset the lower energy of the fuel, in some cases even make slightly more power.. However - most shops are just trying to copy the stock map as close as possible.
The quote you got is also quite high, but might be just a question of UK costs being higher.. 1500 GBP is something you would pay in Central/Eastern Europe (we all run on LPG for years, it is on almost every station) for a kit to direct injection engines (where the gas injectors have to be drilled in and other costly fun is needed). An older engine like 2JZ is closer to 900-1000GBP (note that this being a 6-cyl also increases the cost). I mounted my LPG to 3SGE for about 600 GBP, got it all returned within a year. Granted, it is a gas guzzler for a 4cyl ;)
UK phasing out LPG is confusing to me. It is a cheap, more eco alternative - and oil refining will not end anytime soon, as it is not only refined for fuel but for chemical industries as well. So why not have both LPG and chargers on stations?

Australia used to have a huge interest in LPG. Ford was coming out with LPG Falcons in the early 2000’s to mid 2010s when the Falcon was killed. Unfortunately LPG didn’t really persevere in the end but it was a great idea
That's a very low end LPG transformation, you would see it only on old cars (e.g. my grandpa had it on a Renault 19). More refined systems have a toroidal tank in the spare wheel bay, doesn't take space in the boot, and it got sequential fuel injection system (not sure that in the video is the same), basically no power loss and just 15% less mpg. It came as semi-factory option on his Golf V 1.6 when bought it new from VW Italy. We made almost 200K miles with it, never an issue, now sold to a friend and it's still running today after 16 years. What a combo, miss it every day.
In The Dominican Republic we been using LPG since early 2000s on all of our vehicles from 4 cylinders and V8. Since 2013 or so, we been importing Hyundai from Korea with the system already installed in the car. We been using Lovato Gas system who claims is from Italy.
i live in Algeria here and LPG prices here are extremely cheap (0.06$ per litre) so it's quite popular, i think around 1 car out of 5 runs on LPG here.

In poland lpg is common and costs around half of what petrol does, you usually burn a bit more fuel in litres but its still way cheaper than petrol alone

I've been running my 2001 Range Rover P38 4.6 on LPG for a good while now and it's cracking! Far more reasonable than running it on petrol as it's about 15mpg on a good day so the only way to run it economically is lpg! The cheap stations are harder to find but we managed a good 800 mile trip to Edinburgh and back on lpg alone, that's 4 fill ups on the P38's 72L lpg tank, still half the price of doing the same trip on petrol though!
Swindons magic roundabout is easy. You have to remember that no-one is 100% sure who's right of way it is. So the trick is to just look confident as if you know what you are doing and go fir it. If you do cut someone up they'll just assume they got it wrong and it's your right of way. Simple.
In Bulgaria LPG is so popular I don't have a single friend who drives a petrol car without the LPG system. The conversion here is cheaper and it cuts the price of fuel almost in half. LPG is available in every petrol station currently at 50p per liter
It's dyeing in Aust too. My local town only has one LPG pump remaining, used to be 15.
in Poland a lot of petrol/gasoline vehicles have been converted and have run on LPG for years (at least from 2000's). Strangely, in UK it was something of a foreign idea , probably due to much more affordable fuel cost relative to wages.
Has anyone seen on vice news the guy who buy’s red diesel for 50p a litre then he filters it through cat litter to get rid of the red dye, then he sells it back to the people for £1.00 litre??
People have been filtering the red dye out of red diesel for as long as its been around and it must be a very old video because red hasn't been 50p a litre for at least 10 years it's around £1 a litre atm

My first car (Saxo vtr) was T boned by a taxi on the magic roundabout when I was 17. Brilliant memories. Still 13/14 years later I refuse to use that roundabout 😂

I used to run a 2.0 Alfa 166 on lpg. It was very cheap at the time about 40p a litre. Loved that car even though it blew up twice 😂

Common in Australia in mainly the ford Falcons and some Commodores also a lot are dual fuel having both petrol and LPG, you find the odd car from a different manufacturer with dual fuel cause they got LPG installed later.
Ran Duel fuel Petrol/LPG since the 80s in AUS 5c/L to 180c/L now back to 80c/L.
Cost of LPG for Service stations is higher the Petrol as the tanks are above ground and exposed to the elements and takes up more space.
One down side is Summer, being quite hot here can slow to a trickle when filling more so when they are low on LPG.
I love how I went to Swindon to pick up an exhaust for my car and literally got through the magic roundabout as quickly as possible lol
This video was a year ago, it's now April 2024 and there's even less LPG around. All Shell garages have now quit selling it. Luckily there's a farm that sells it near me for car and motor home use. Its a real shame...
If the guys fancy doing a video comparing Magic Roundabouts then there are ones in Colchester (Greenstead Roundabout which I've used many a time) and Hemel Hempstead to see which ones best. But otherwise this Lexus is such a quality car. It would be daft to phase out lpg as its a great alternative fuel.
In 2019 in Poland 15% if the cars registered ran on LPG's (3,327,624). There are taxi companies (Soowa Taxi Radom) putting LPG on hybrid toyotas and they say it works great.
Fun fact, in Spain LPG conversions and stock LPG cars like the Seat Leon TGI get an emissions sticker "eco" which is the same that hybrids get. It means cheaper city parking and 30% discount on tolls. LPG is cheaper and better for the environement.
Other fun fact, you can't park in some underground parking garages. It's because they don't have sensors in case the LPG tank leaks (they don't explode). The gas is heavier than air and sinks underground. Airducts are usualy in the ceilings so the gas would get stuck on the bottom if a parking was designed wrong.

LPG is popular in Bulgaria. My dad was one of the first if not the first to import an LPG fitted car from the Netherlands.
I personally drive 2 cars on LPG- a 96 4.6 Ford Thunderbird and a 96 Mitsubishi Sigma/Diamante. Ford gets me 14L/100km on LPG and it is the same on petrol on highway speeds of around 130-140km/h. The Mitsubishi is a bit cheaper with around 11-12L/100km. Basically I travelled to the seaside and back (around 800km) last summer with the Thunderbird for around 45 Euros, packed with 3 people and luggage for a 5 day stay.

The amount of lpg filling places is diminishing all the time unfortunately :( it's a shame but I just don't think I'd spend the money on a conversion these days.
the trick is to buy a converted car, or convert something you intend to keep for 7-10 years
Here in the Netherlands, I save about € 1.00 on every liter of LPG compared to petrol, so that after having refueled 1500 liters I had already earned back the LPG installation. With my car, Citroën C1 😊, that was already after 16800 miles 😁. I think a lot more people should drive on LPG, because it's better for the environment anyway and for your wallet! 💷 The best solution is not to reduce the LPG pumps but the diesel pumps.
As someone who used to work at a lpg filling station. A few pointers. Diesels can't be converted onto lpg and they burn hotter then usual petrols. They are few and far between but the savings are there for people who do alot of milage. Where I worked. Alot of taxis used to use it and also registering your car as duel fuel gave you a reduction in road tax. I think its around £10/5 a year reduction and alot of 4x4s are duel fuel to so people can afford to run them. Think old jeeps and old range rovers just to name a few. Anyway. I had a duel fuel au ford falcon straight 6 here in Oz. It worked out the same price as a small eco 4 cylinder. Great for highway driving but there is a down fall to converted cars as the rods are designed for petrol. Dedicated gas engines have stronger rods to aid in the harder combination of gas plus there system is better sealed to prevent gas leaks. I always had miss fires and back fires when on gas due to leaks from age. But def saved money in the long run. Here in Oz car guys buy the green top Barra engines that are made to run lpg and convert to run petrol and boost them as the stronger rods make wicked power.
It used to be great in Australia for big old school V8 local cars. But he cost in extra mechanical issues needs to be factored in. Most of our cabs ran it but now not so much ask the price has risen whilst availability has dropped
Here is my (rather long) comment about LPG, with over 10 years behind the wheel, entirely on LPG.
My dad has a shop where they install LPG systems with his colleague for about 23 years now. Since we live in Bulgaria, the cost savings are quite a lot. A liter of gasoline is 1.30 Euro, a liter of LPG is about 0.55 cents, so it is more than twice as cheap.
I drive quite a lot for someone who works from home (over 30,000 km a year). So it was logical to LPG convert my e46 328Ci to LPG. The usual cost for the conversion here of a 2.8l 193hp Inline 6 with quality parts (not cheap parts from Turkey or Poland which can cut the cost in half) is about 800 Euro, When running LPG the fuel consumption is about 10% worse than that of running gasoline. So if my BMW normally consumes 11L/100km, on LPG it runs on about 12-12.3L/100km. And if I try to be careful on the gas and not drive like a jackass, the minimum I've ever got it was doing an average of 70km/h on fifth gear, and i got 8.6L/100km of LPG (the whole run was 244km in the mountain - round trip)
So to do some calculations, my car does not burn petrol after it reaches 40 degrees C, which is after about 400 meters of city driving, therefore I will disregard this consumption.
11 liters per 100km is 1100 liters per 10,000km which is 1430 Euro, or in other words, for my 35000 km I've don in 2022, I would have spent 5005 Euro on gasoline.
12.5 liters per 100km is 1250 liters per 10,000km which is 687 Euro, or 2406 Euro per year. So for 2022 it is safe to say I've saved over 2200 Euro (some of them were done on gasoline when I need the acceleration or sportiness), with a 800 Euro investment (for me it was even cheaper, because I paid only for the parts) basically after the first year I am on profit 1400 Euro and after the second year, my car is basically free, because I made more profit than the car costed me with the LPG and oil services included. The LPG needs 2 filters with total cost of 15 Euro every 20,000km and a 150 Euro service of the vaporizer every 120,000km (not sure what it is called in English, but it is the part that uses hot water from the car to better vaporize the gas particles).
Still, a lot of people here drive diesel cars without cats with a shady tune taken from a sketchy Russian site. Running a gasoline car on LPG is way cleaner, way cheaper than maintaining a diesel car with the same horsepower, especially if it was tuned.
Even if you get 5L/100km with your extremely tuned 1.9TDI Golf doing the same constant speed I will get about 9L/100km on LPG, where diesel with its 1.4 Euro per liter. Diesel is 7 Euro per 100 km. LPG is 5 Euro per 100km (rounded from 4.95), while also being way more reliable than a diesel car. Also the car on LPG makes almost the same noise that it does on petrol and does not sound like a tractor or a Ford Transit van like diesel tends to sound.
The UK starting to remove LPG pumps is quite political. They want to force people to buy newer cars, which are "cleaner". The people here are too poor to afford to buy newer cars, which are way harder and more unreliable to run on LPG (talking about vehicles with direct-injection here), especially now when car prices have sky rocketed, a 1.8L Toyota Avensis from 2009 is 9000 Euro, where the average salary outside of the capital of Sofia is 500-600 Euro and the minimum salary is 350 Euro, while food costs the same as everywhere else in Europe... Try saving 9000 Euro like that. (I can afford it just because I work in the IT industry)

I got a Skoda Fabia with Lpg and it has been awesome especially cuz i was a broke student when i got the car and i love it still.

Up here in Finland, we’re getting more biogas filling stations. Biogas is a byproduct of fermentation of household food waste and agricultural waste. Every home has a compost bin and the biogas can be made from this.
So it’s ‘technically’ carbon neutral. The downside is that conversion costs compared to the UK are ridiculously high (about €2,500 for a 4 cylinder petrol).
I think, in the UK, the reduction is a fuel company choice rather than a government decision to reduce the number of LPG stations but either way it’s a very dumb idea when the potential filling capacity for biogas already exists.
In Bulgaria every car is either a diesel or a petrol/lpg converted one. It just makes financial sense when prices for petrol are similar to most across Europe, yet lpg per litre is half of it. I used to drive an old Seat Cordoba (a sedan Ibiza) and it was getting me about 9-10l per 100km, compared to 8l per 100km on petrol. It’s a no brainier really

I moved to Poland over a year ago and LPG is massive here. Its 1/3 of the cost of petrol. There are downsides though (can't park in multi-story) and that's a problem when you live in a city and parking is limited. But it's ok, while we all struggle, the rich get richer.

I am always surprised why LPG is not that popular. In my country if a car is a petrol you can assume in 95% of the time it is LPG converted. No matter if it is an S class or a Corsa. We pretty much have LPG pumps on 99% of the Petrol stations.
I have always swapped my car to lpg, I currently have LPG fitted to me 2l Clio and I can say that I save on average 1.5k-2k a year on fuel as I do a lot of mileage
In India. We've been using LPG & CNG (compressed Natural Gas) for years now. Most Taxi's, tuk tuks and City buses run on CNG. It used to be super cheap, but the car does lose some power, and it's dry for over liquid, so car services are more frequent.
These 2 are the best.

I can't say anything about LPG but in Russia we have Propane. It's SUPER cheap but it does noticably affect performance, the engine will sound differently and it will shorten engine life. Also, you can get it at any petrol station. There's also Methane which is even cheaper but it's more expensive to install on your car.
Running on gas is so popular in Russia, it's not even a strange thing.
Mate had an LPG astra. Was a right pain only 1 fill station within miles and it was on what i can only describe as a builders yard. You had to also top-up between 9 and 5 because before or after that the gates were locked.
Yep it's magicly inconvenient in a lot of countries, and often barely any cheaper than gas.

Here in France E85 is still the way to go, though it’s now just over 1€/L compared to around 1.90€ for regular. Diesel is nearer 2€. LPG seems about the same as in the UK. A Maptun remap of my 2004 9-5 Aero was about £350 and has already paid for itself since last August. Just hope they don’t hike up the tax on E85!
for Remap GM cars you need really good LPG injectors.

my brother had an identical gs300, he sold it for a dodge dakota, pretty cool trade.
I had a Saab 9-3 Aero 2.0T in 2018 that was LPG converted. When I found a local Calor gas supplier that sold LPG for £0.42/ltr I was laughing. Unfortunately, a few months later that pump closed and the other pumps in the area were less reliable and around 25-35p more expensive. When I moved there were only 2 pumps within a 30-mile radius of me, the pumps were regularly out of order or were out of gas so it became quite frustrating to run on LPG. Such a shame it wasn't given more support in the UK. Met lots of fellow LPG enthusiasts at the pumps, most of them in v8 Range Rovers.

Been around alot of lpg cars and they tend to always be cheaper than petrol or diesel alternatives for the same amount of miles driven. Also alot of people will say it reduces power but a new and properly installed lpg system should not reduce power output. Im personally not a fan of lpg but i can see the appeal as for the same journey my pd130 cost almost 4 times more than a friends renault on lpg 🤷♂️
