I lost 8lbs in 6 weeks.
My 12,500 steps were fast paced, and I changed my diet to fruit, and eat more veg and no sugar (no convienience foods or take aways)
Steps alone aren’t the answer
I can vouch for this, ever since I started Autumns detox and challenge I walk 30 minutes a day. I don’t have time to do more during the week. I’m not a morning person at all but now addicted to waking up at 6 to get that early morning walk in because it’s such a peaceful time of day. I have lost 10 lbs in 6 weeks and always thought I had to do heavy workouts in order to lose weight.
I have been walking for years. It’s been the one source of exercise that I never quit. I Like to leave my phone at home so I can just listen to sounds of nature and relax.
When I moved to NYC, I was a size 9 or 10. I vaguely wanted to lose weight, but wasn't actively trying to. I wasn't working yet and even when I was, the first job I found was part time. In all that spare time I had, I just walked around exploring. I would take the subway to Central Park, Prospect Park, the ocean and walk around for hours on end. I would just walk around aimlessly even outside of areas with any visual appeal, like I even walked in the "hood." I was a bit young and dumb. I would just stop places and get a sandwich and/or ice cream and then continue with walking. I was eating crap, but I only ate like 3 times a day, maybe a snack or two. Anyhow, eventually, my pants were falling off me. I went to the store expecting to buy size 7, but those were loose, too. I ended up in size 5 pants. When I got a job, I gained it all back and then some, lost it again on a treadmill and walking again when I was on unemployment... Well, you get the picture. Now, I am nannying so I'm walking a lot at (take the kids all over or get on the structure with them or just pace while they play) and to/from work. I lost 65 pounds in this past year with the kids. Walking works!!
Wow, that's so amazing!! Congrats!!
NYC is one of the great walkable cities in the world.
@@rosevanderreijden3216 I've been riding my bike lately, though. It's much faster.
Walking is one of my favourite forms of exercise. 11 months ago I decided to take control of my life and make some healthy decisions. I’ve lost close to 140 lbs with a combination of eating a calorie deficit, eating low carb, doing IF, walking, riding my stationary bike, and lifting weights. I still have more to lose, but my progress has slowed down. I’ve been trying to change up my routine and reassess my caloric intake. I’m not getting discouraged though, I’m sticking to it!
As someone who had to run, I only walk now, and have lost lots of weight, size, and my RHR is high 50s to low 60s. With a healthy keto and intermittent fasting lifestyle also reversed my T2D. Plus no shin splints.
Ahh that's so awesome, Andrew!! Such a positive impact on your health and wellness!
Nice job Autumn,at 62 i have lost 95 pounds in 10 months with a 2k a day diet and water black coffe or tea, and walking every day from 5k steps in the first 4 monts and for 6 months in later months have bumped up to 9k steps. with an occasional 40 hour fast,
@Autumn Bates You inspired me with your first walking video and it turned out to be a slippery slope. I started walking 30 min/day around town, then I bumped it up to 4 miles/day, then I went to the hills and ravines of the forest, then I bumped it up to 6 miles a day, then 10 miles. At that point I had lost so much weight that I started rucking with a 30lb backpack. I'm not sure what's next but I crave my daily walking. I also combined it with IF and a good vegetable-heavy keto diet. I'm going to wait on reporting how much weight I lost until I've kept it off for over a year -- but it's a lot. All of this has also substantially helped the severe depression/Anxiety and being able to wear my clothes again is a crazy mood booster. You're my hero. I'm loving life. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Best, Lore🍃🌿🌱
ahhh this comment made my day!! Thank you for sharing!! Keep us updated on your health and wellness journey!🤓❤️❤️
So do you fill the backpack with dumbells or what?
@@Jaylade Ha! I fill mine with anything heavy I can find. Right now it has 3 large encyclopedias on wildlife and one Sanskrit dictionary. There might be a brick or two in it as well. I also load up on bottles of water. You can buy rucking backpacks that come with weights to insert into pockets but I haven't gone that route towards accessorizing yet. Mine is plenty heavy enough.
@@AutumnBates Update: My life just continues to get better and I credit it to the beginning above. Later that Fall I met an amazing woman and we've been living together for 1.5 years at this point. I'm Alternate Day fasting now (not keto anymore). My life is too busy to squeeze in 5 hour woodland hikes (I now have chickens and a garden) but I ruck in town and exercise at home. Oh and I promised to tell how much weight I lost once I had kept it off for a couple of years --- I lost 60 lbs that summer and have kept it off without effort. I had horrible debilitating Treatment Resistant Depression for 4 years and all the drugs and therapy bounced off of it. Your walking video though was the pebble that started the avalanche of my recovery. Other people's mileage may vary but for my life, you said walking was healthy, and you were right! Thanks for the keys out of that prison Autumn. Best, Lore🍃
@@LoreMIpsum-vs6dx Its a good idea to do that because I live in South Florida with no elevation
Thank you Autumn for all the great advice! I've only been doing IF and eating low carb for 6 weeks so I have a lot learn!!
.........Your relaxing voice for compact information, makes things smooth to digest..........
You are so right that it is easy to sabotage the fat loss benefits by snacking too close to (before, after, or during) a walk. The walk itself is the best treat!
This is super helpful. Can’t wait to try LMNT, thanks Autumn!
❤I love the way you break it down, nice and simple. Thank you.
Great Information. Many thanks!
I personally have a bone disease (osteonecrosis) and respiratory damage from two decades of smoking, along with cerebral palsy affecting my whole right side, so my mobility is emotionally taxing and fraught stress in general but with an inhaler and patience for myself and my limits. I'm hoping to get my health back after decades not caring about it, so thank you for reinforcing the steps don't count as much as the time spent.
Thank you for this, your timing is great. I was just hunting down my shoes for my morning walk. Rain, sun, snow, even a blizzard isn't an excuse to get out of the housr for a walk before breakfast. A dawn stroll keeps my stress low, and my muscles from aching. Some days I manage only as far as across the parking lot, but almost always, my morning begins with two miles, a trip to the grocery store, coffee at ten, another two miles, and then my day begins. My mom finds it very odd I walk so much, getting antsy if trapped inside or confined to the concrete jungle... But she goes hunting in truly dangerous conditions, and gets depressed when she can't go. Outside is best, but a lap around the inside of the office helps. Maybe not with weight loss directly, but it helps build muscle, and that has an effect, along with reducing anxiety and promoting good sleep, which keep me from overeating.
I totally agree - I've been upping my morning walk the last few days to go for an extra 20 minutes in the morning and it has helped put me in such a better mood the rest of the day. Thanks for sharing your experience, Lydia!
Thanks for the encouragement! Great video!
You are so welcome, Clare!🤓❤️
Thanks for the info 👏🏻
Heeeey! I looove you and your videos! Super inspiring!
Ordered mine thanks for everything
Nice advice and I’m very proud of you, Autumn!
Thank you Ervin!!
You’re welcome, Autumn!
I started walking after a major surgery 2 years ago. I got up to about 6 miles everyday (wasn’t working whilst in recovery) I was back to good health within about 6 weeks. 2 years later I’m now the fittest I’ve ever been and now training for a marathon.
Walking is the very best exercise we can do. We were evolved to walk. Several animals can run faster that we can but no animal can walk farther than we can.
I've been VERY sedentary for the past few years. Last week I walked up the road to redeliver a magazine that was misdelivered to me. It was farther than I expected. I got 5000 steps in but I was seeing spots as I was walking back up my driveway.
Years ago I left early for work without breakfast and walked two miles to a bus stop that would get me to work sooner. I fainted when I got to the bus stop which prompted my doctor to take me off my blood pressure medicine.
I have never had leg cramps when walking but I'm going to try that LMNT to see if it will help in other areas as I start to move around more.
Exercise does many good things for your body, but you won't lose weight. You will work up an appetite to restore internal fuel stores you have expended.
Less sugar is the real answer.
Thank you Autumn!
You are so welcome, Karen!
Thanks Autumn gotta get this Covid weight off and your videos have been helping me make better choices.
I'm so glad my videos have been helpful!🤓❤️ Thanks for tuning in!
This is interesting to me. As an ex fighter running an£ skipping has always been my go to fat buster, but I’m in my mid 40s now and my body just isn’t operating quite as well as it did, Achilles problems. I’ve been walking with a weight vest in hilly areas…. The weight loss is real.
Been doing The 10k steps since saw your video and have really seeing differences on my Body and losing weight!
That's awesome, Juliana!! Well done!
Great advice. I have learned so much from your videos. Fasting has solved my struggles with weight lose.
I was exercising every day with no weight lose now I exercise half the time with double or triple the results.
That's so awesome, Bruce! Working out smarter, not harder 💪🏻💪🏻
Thank you
You're absolutely right. Before Covid lock downs (I am in Asia) I walked 10 miles per day 4 days week with a Keto diet. The weight loss was amazing.
In lock down now can't walk so I do 20 hour intermittent fasting with Keto. Can't wait to walk again and combine all 3 like you suggest . Thanks for your videos.
How long did u take to walk 10 miles?
10 miles in 2 hrs 15 min
@@billwedeking797 thanks ☺️
I usually do a 45 minute walk (2.5 miles) while intermittent fasting. I mix some short intensity spurts when running across some streets, lol. When I get back I have my prepared LMNT chilled in the refrigerator. I time my walk so I'm ready to break my fast when getting back. Fasting time is 6 PM to 10 AM usually. Sometimes a little longer.
Hahahah I can totally related to the short intensity spurts running across the street. I feel like frogger sometimes 🐸
Your video’s motivated me to walk. And I walked 15k steps every day sometimes more. I eat the same, but I focused more on eating more fiber and protein foods and I avoided sugar as much as I could. After the first week my body transformed. My legs were more toned. After second week, my waist started to be smaller and slimmer. In week 3… SAME results however towards the fourth week my stomach area got bigger with 3 inch bloating. This was insane…… also my arms were the same and my under belly. I burned in a week more then 4000 calories but still with a bloated belly from all that walking. My personal trainer helped me with a better posture with walking so I can target other areas from my body. I felt fat. Even tho I made so much progress with just walking. Instead of walking so much. I started to incorporate indoors walking videos which were more efficient, and the rest I did outdoors. At first ik lost 3 or more hours with walking and now I shorten it with effective indoors walking. My stomach got less bloat en more definition. More doesn’t mean better
You made this comment 2 years ago...how are things going today?
I've got that same water bottle, love it!
Hi Autum!! Question. How many BPMs do you recommend to not increase the heart rate and therefore the cortisol levels?
As always, Autumn... great videos. But I'm still a little vague on exactly what snack(S) to eat BEFORE my morning walks. What would you suggest from some type of list you can provide?
I'm also big on salted nuts,... but how much? I do 7000 steps in the morning and another 6000 later in the day. I just want to eat the right stuff before my walks. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Autumn.
Already shared this 👍
Thanks for spreading the word, John!🤓❤️
TY Autumn soon I will be moving out of my country to a better place where I don’t have to trip over homeless ppl or needles in my path! Looking forward to walking everyday since I’ll have no car anymore. I’ll still do 30 min yoga a few times a week though, that keeps me toned and de stressed the best 🧡
That's a great combo! Walking + yoga. Great job, Marla!
I believe walking outside is a number one Best,.. everything you said is so right.... Thumbs Up,. Just awesome.. Thank You..💕👍😁☺️🤗😊👟👟
Thanks, Connie!🤓❤️
??? Hi Autumn, would you consider light dance cardio as a suitable “wet weather plan” / substitute for walking? Or would it be too intense such that our bodies would be working out outside the fat burning zone???
I started intermittent fasting mid may..have lost 31 lbs. so far..also walking 30 minutes daily..im using a lot of your recipes and suggestions!I'm wondering about tomatoes?I have a look many
Congrats!!!
LMNT does have natural flavors, though. If that’s a concern to you you should get the unflavored, as Autumn said she does.
Thank you soo much for trying to talk slower😍
It is way too hot to walk outside today. I have a bad knee, so I can’t walk that much. I used to walk more than 10,000 steps a day. So I joined the Y and ‘walk’ in the pool. It seems to work for me.
Autumn please answe this question for me please ; I have been wondering if drinking diet sodas or zero sodas will break your fast because i like them very much but heard they break your fast and others tell me they don’t , please let me know what you think about this
Is LMNT better than using Celtic sea salt?
Love this! I knew walking was as good as running, 🏃🏻♀️ it's just a pity I learnt this a bit on the late side after my knee cartilage was done in! SO WALK DON'T RUN! 💓💜💓💜💯
Swimming, biking and walking if your knees are bad.
Great idea, thanks@@analyticalchick3064 ! I done daily cross country in my teen to mid 20's so the horrible crunch noise my knees make, especially walking up stairs is awful! 😭❤️
I somehow managed to improve my knees (and hips). The cartilage damage I had was caused by years of ballet and running. Hydrolized collagen peptides in butter/bulletproof coffee, not eating processed foods and refined carbs, especially sugar, and using olive oil and coconut oil only. Basically I got rid of anything inflammatory, mainly eating meat, veggies, berries and bone broth, lots of bone broth. Read meat is supposed to be inflammatory but that is counterintuitive to me since the fat and gristle in red meat is high in collagen. Giving up bread and sugar was hard but my knees are loving me for it. I no longer have creaky knees when going up the stairs or squatting down. The first time I didn't have to hold onto something to get up from a squatting position I was amazed. It had been years since I was able to do that. Good luck!
This is reassuring for my knees@@catpatrick3838 ! I actually find all that very interesting. It definitely sounds spot on since I unfortunately eat exactly the things that you said not to eat! 🤣 I'm a sucker for my breads and sugar so I'll start with at least reducing at least! The bone broth sounds interesting 🤔 I'll be honest it's not something that I would relate to being being healthy or even taste nice, I think it's just the thought of boiling the bones puts me off! Lol,
Thanks I will definitely be looking into all this because I can't imagine being able to even stand if I carry on like this x
Could you add captions to your videos? Some of us need them. Thank you.
Hi Autumn, could you please enlighten me on possible alternatives to coffee for when I get that energy crash while fasting?
Hi Apostolos! I have an article with alternatives here: www.autumnellenutrition.com/post/8-keto-coffee-alternatives-to-boost-fat-burning
However, if you're experiencing energy crashes, you might want to take a look at your sleep quality as well as how you're breaking your fast. I have an article with break-fast ideas here:

I’ve been intermittent fasting for. A year no change 😢 not sure what I’m doing wrong 16:8

KETO coffee Cheers!! ☕🕊❤
You're very welcome! Keto Coffee Cheers!☕️☕️🤓
Walking best weight loss exercise ever. Plus fastest yes I said fastest walk don't run....proved signed seal and delivered. But if you like to run well run.
Do all of LMNT break your fast or keep your fast going? I’m looking for the options that keep the fast going but help support working out during fast. Thanks
I just completed a 3 day fast and I was drinking LMNT raspberry flavor and it didn’t break my fast. I even tested my ketones and blood sugar levels using Keto-Mojo and I was still in ketosis with low blood sugar. Hope this helps
Do we have to walk fast?
So can you walk a little through out the day that adds up to 30mins or is it better to walk a full 30mins in one go? Thanks for all the helpful vidoes!
This video promotes the MYTH that the fuel source burned during exercise (sugar/glucose or fat) matters. It absolutely does not. What matters more than what TYPE of fuel you burn is the AMOUNT of fuel you burn. In other words, your overall calorie burn matters much more than whether you burned fat or glucose. And walking is great for that calorie burn.
A second MYTH promoted by this video is that walking = low intensity. Not necessarily. It depends on how hard you make yourself work. Walking at a brisk pace, pumping your arms, and walking hills or even slight grades whenever possible SIGNIFICANTLY increases intensity. Try looking at your heart rate if you wear a FitBit, AppleWatch, or other wearable, and notice how it changes when you incorporate arm pumping and very brisk walking.
Not to take away from walking as exercise - it is great - but HIIT (high intensity interval training) actually promotes a far greater overall calorie burn not only during the workout itself, but for up to 24 hours AFTERWARD. It increases your basal metabolic rate - meaning you are burning more calories while at REST than you would otherwise. The same is true for resistance training with either bodyweight or weights. Increasing muscle tissue increases your basal metabolic rate, and thereby your total calorie burn throughout the day and night - while sitting and sleeping. This is significant. This afterburn effect is called Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC). Google it if you're unfamiliar with it. It's an absolute GAME-CHANGER in the world of fat loss, and is vastly underrated.
The 1-2 punch against fat would be a healthy, clean diet with good levels of lean protein and fiber from vegetables, and an exercise program that incorporates HIIT training and resistance training. Add some walking days in there too, and you are practically guaranteed to lose fat (which is different than losing "weight"), in short order, barring any medical issues.
Also: you do not need to supplement with electrolytes unless you are exercising HARD for an hour or more. A low intensity walk typically does not require that kind of supplementation, unless you're walking in very warm conditions causing you to sweat a lot. Product sponsorship on videos like this is primarily to earn $$ for the channel, and reduces objectivity of the nutritional advice.
@@calisongbird It's a nonsense supplement anyway - just flavored salt
Many of these channels are poorly done. Nutrition Made Simple and Fit Mother/Father Project are two of the better ones.
@@calisongbird thank you for this!
I personally don't like any high intensity exercises prefer walking love being outside walking but have been told by many doctors and fitness trainers walking alone wouldn't be enough to loose the weight, I needed to so it's good to hear a professional say walking is a good form of exercise and it's not necessary to hit 10,000 steps to achieve weight loss another myth, I kept seeing and hearing.
I’m confused. So does that mean that when I eat excessive carbs that I should run afterwards or should I walk??
I started walking 1 hour every morning along with IF. I also get up and do 25 low impact jumping jacks every hour. I’m trying to get rid of the 25 lbs I gained during lockdown. Before I lost 50 lbs with keto, IF and 1 hour walk daily.
Just have to point out a few things about this....
You have to put it in context whether walking works for losing weight or even toning up.....and how much walking is involved....For example an overweight housewife that has never done exercise for a long time....walking will definitely help, and even longer walks, but eventually this will stop working for losing weight....the reason is that the body adapts to the new stress and the body becomes fuel efficient too, meaning it will start using less fuel (energy) for more activity....like a car been fuel efficient.
The exercise concept.....or walking have functions.....exercise is there to mimic work...and walking is there to get us from point A to point B....Humans, and our ancestors, the hominids have been doing this for hundreds and thousands of years....it is in our genes and how our bodies work.... Every person has to judge for themselves what STRESS level is adequate enough for them to use to lose weight....Too little and there is no effect, too much and you over-stress your body...For most fit people walking, will not do it for toning up, UNLESS the stress is increased, and increased and increased....we do this because the body adapts to the stress, and for walking it becomes fuel efficient.....and LESS energy is burnt.
More time walking => fuel efficient, but you want to be fuel deficient, which means you spend a tonne of energy for very little activity.....
Im tired of being plus size im going to start walking

IF plus walking 6k a day ... 10 kgs in 45 days
Walking is great, but you need lots of time for it to have an impact on fat loss.
Stop watching TV.
That’ll free up a bunch of time
Hi thanks fr ur advices. @autumn bates. I need to know… Walking on the spot. Or say 30 minutes walking on the spot. Something like marching on the spot. Is this ok if we rly don’t hav a way to go out and walk?
Ive been walking 10k steps, even more almost everyday, now im trying to walk 2 hrs a day and doing 20:4 fasting, but unfortunately the scale jut wont go down, any advise to break my plateau? thanks...
Calorie deficit
Try 30,000 per day
I would try walking faster or slow jogging-Doing same time but more intense. Walking longer takes longer time and would leave you no time to do other activities.
Also, get 3 lbs or 5 lbs dumbbells, doing some biceps curling while you walk.
The more muscle mass you create the faster you see the results.
Good luck!
ur clearly just lying buddy
@@Travvis1 well im not forcing anybody to believe what i said...

I dont agree with wait til you walk to eat, walking helps reduce your blood glucose, which lowers insulin. So if you walk after you eat you get that blood sugar back done. As oppose to vice versa and leaving it high.
I must say that applies to afternoon and evening walks. Walking when you first wake up in a fasted state is ok!
Walking throughout the day definitely helps to reap the benefits you're mentioning! You can get the perks of both by walking fasted and adding a few shorter (or longer, if you have the time) walks throughout the day.
2:09 You got it wrong. It helps the body become LESS insuline sensitive, not more.
Nope! Definitely do not believe in walking for weight loss. For the past two years a neighbor and I walked between 8K and 15K a day. Our diets concentrate on veggies and lean protein and staying hydrated. The walking has been good for our mental health, but we did not loose a single pound. 6 months ago I added in weights, cardio, core workouts. My body is getting more toned, but no weight loss. I'm new to intermittent fasting, so maybe that will help toward my goal to loose 10 pounds. I normally do not post comments on the internet BUT I simply want to scream any time anyone touts walking as a vehicle for weight loss. Walk for mental health and to keep your joints moving, but it is not a weight loss strategy.
It can depend on where you're at in your health journey. For example, exercise can improve insulin sensitivity and make it easier to use fat as fuel as a result. If you're already quite insulin sensitive, then you won't see very many perks from exercise (from a weight loss perspective). This is where focusing on what you eat will take even more priority. I'm happy to hear that walking has helped your mental health, though!
Swiming
Also a great option!
try walking 10,000 steps twice a day you will sleep for sure 10 hours
Love your informative videos but I find the constant frantic hand gesturing so distracting and unnerving
Can you walk too much??? I’m walking 20k steps a day and think it may be adding stress on my body
If you're finding that your body needs a break, you can certainly scale back a bit. For example, you can try scaling down to 15k steps and see how your body feels. If you have an injury, then you'll want to check with your doctor to see how much walking will be best for where you're at right now in the healing process.
How many of your steps were into dog poop? Step, scrape, step, scrape...
This is the longest advert I've ever seen.
