I think rod building and soft plastic casting are going to be my 2024 hobbies.
Those are great hobbies to start! I tried rod building years ago. The hardest part for me to right was the epoxy for the guides! Was always sticky! Lol
Make sure you get your A and B ratios as close as possible and don't forget the denatured or rubbing alcohol to clean surfaces. Also, there are some advanced UV flexible one part epoxies used for 3D resin printing now, that are also cost effective when considering the quantity if you plan on doing a lot or just want the convenience.
And don't forget to mix the Flex Coat well. Bubbles can be released with an alcohol lamp after you apply the Flex Coat to your wraps.
It's never been easier to do then today. ENJOY!
I used a syringe and everything. Never could get flexcoat to work for me.
I decided to pull the trigger and start my own fishing company…I will be bigger than 6th sense. Fantom Fishing Labs “Catch the mystery, conquer the waters”
Good luck man!
Nice hope it goes well.
I've been designing and 3D printing my own custom lures, works better than you'd expect
What lures work the best? Ive designed a whopper plopper that doesnt work to well, a popper, a topwater frog/popper hybrid, and a jerkbait
@@taketheblame4142 I've done well on several but my favorite is probably a baby snake imitation soft plastic
@@3DPrintedMolds what material do you use to make soft plastics? And also, i doubt this would work, but could elmers glue in a mold work to make a soft plastic?
@@taketheblame4142 I use PETG molds and plastisol, got videos on my channel about it.
Plaster of Paris is the old standard
@@taketheblame4142 i used petg and sprayed with high temp paint
If someone wants to get a TASTE of this world, jig-making is a good place to start…to see if you dig the concept. I’ve been tying my own jigs for a few years now and it’s great. I’ve stumbled into three or four great patterns that I know are unique to me. The nice thing is, you can go as simple or crazy as you want. You can spend $50 on some bands/skirts/tools…you can do what I ended up doing and use a fly tying vise to get super precise control of your colors and flash then install your own weed guards. Then there’s the next step beyond that, which is stuff like jig/plastic pouring. It’s kind of the ultimate within that world…but it takes an investment and a pretty significant amount of personal R&D, as it were.
any videos you'd recommend to get started with tying jigs?
I have a ton of jig making videos.
Thank you for the very concise and useful information. Doing some research with my youngest son (15), as he has a goal of making tackle and sharing his fishing journey with people. He fishes every day for several hours. If he's not doing chores or school work, he's fishing. He loves both fresh and saltwater. I figured he might as well chase that goal/dream while he is young - never know what it might turn in to.
You’re welcome. Glad you liked the content! Hope it helps and i hope your son is able to keep chasing that dream!
Thank you so much for posting this video with links to the products. It's exactly what I need! We just got back from our annual Minnesota trip and for the fourth year in a row, we've got a clear winner for our plastics - Kalin's Weenie Worms. Unfortunately, it seems that this product is going by the wayside. As we're coming to the end of the summer season, now is a great time to begin the process of making our own panfish plastics. The first goal is to mimic our beloved Weenie Worm!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
I started making my own baits last year, there's nothing quite like catching a fish on a bait or lure you made yourself. I'm not as big a fan of do-it molds, though there's nothing really wrong with them. I prefer open-pour molds because it lets me explore options at a fraction of the price of the injection molds. I get mine mostly through FusionX (for silicone molds), Enforcer Bait Molds (aluminum, very affordable options), and of course AnglingAI for pretty affordable open-pour aluminum worm molds. The last batch I made was this morning, just a couple cups of plastisol into some swim baits & various ned rig baits. It's a fun hobby, and the up-keep on it isn't nearly as much as I was worried it would be.
I’m not a fan of open pour because i don’t have the patience for it! Lol
@@MattLunaFishing I hear that, it can take some getting used to. But it's easier to make your own hand pour molds than your own injection ones, and that's how I wanted to start. The main thing for me, overall, was the price difference though. I didn't want to drop a few hundred on a new hobby and not end up liking it, know what I mean? About a hundred bucks got me going with hand-pouring a few different molds.
Oh i get it for sure! Soft plastics have a fair start up cost. Silicon molds definitely are cheaper.
Perfect presentation! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks!
I’m planning on trying this. I found how to do it a lil bit cheaper to get started
I need a Yamasenko 5 inch mold . I really may start melting down mine when they break and start making some
DoIt molds has the exact mold for a senko. They got permission to go it from Yamamoto. store.do-itmolds.com/?AffId=5
Yes!
Thanks for watching!
Great information. Thank you.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Great info Matt👍
Thanks for watching!
What’s better, injection moulds or hand pour moulds?
I prefer injection because it’s easier in my opinion.
Do you cure your baits and if you do, how long and hanging ot laying flat?
I lay them flat and let them cure for about a day before using them
Great video boss🧡
Thanks
Are sinking additives imperative?
No, they aren’t imperative but if you want your bait to sink faster they will help.
Matt if you burn the plastasaw can you reuse it
No it’s pretty much done after that. Just be slow in hearing to avoid burning it!
Is this a good starting business?
I think you should get into it as a hobby and if you like doing then consider a business.
This is cool but sad to think about all the plastics , glitters, and colorant chemicals in the bottom of our fisheries 😢
This has been happening for a long long time. Plastics isn’t anything new.
Also consider this, New York banned lead terminal tackle in their fisheries but not plastisol.
You also need to remember that it’s New York
@@MattLunaFishing compared to California that hasn't banned lead terminal tackle?
Just know our marine and freshwater fisheries have never been healthier in the last 50 years. the conservation and environmental protection are working well.
I'm sorry but very few CNC Do-it molds cost 3-500 dollars. Just for the heads up....
You’re correct but most aren’t multi cavity in similar volumes to an essential series mold. Most molds that are cnc and have similar cavity counts as the essential series are easily in the real of $300
@@MattLunaFishing I missed heard ya in the video my bad and my apologies.. I used to work at Do-it Molds. Ran CNC for both soft bait versions; handle room, foundry and warehouse. I've moved on to a different job for family reasons. Just like watching videos from people that use Do-it products.
Keep up the good work!!!
@littlewapsiehomestead all good thanks for watching. Appreciate the support. I was fortunate to get out to Iowa and did a tour of the facility and fished with a couple of their guys. Was a super fun trip.
@@wapsieriverrat I highly doubt you did. If so, not for long.
@@wapsieriverratyour links to Instagram and Facebook are non-functional. For being a homesteader, you should have some content by now. Not just playlists
Where did you get your pricing? Do it essentials are all over the web for $50 or less. CNC start for around 80. I like your content, but unless we're looking at a huge price increase your pricing is way off.
You didn’t hear me right. The essential series mold that are multi cavity around $92 on their site.
A CNC mold with comparable number of cavities like the essential series molds have, would be around the $300 mark.
Molds like the Slick Shiner mold.
@@MattLunaFishing gotcha!
@@MattLunaFishing why did my posts with prices get deleted?
I didn’t delete anything so i don’t know
There's this thing called a net that works every time.
A net? For what?
Not Everytime
With the price of the molds it would be very difficult to get your money back.
It’s not all about saving money. It’s about customization and fun of making baits and catching fish on baits you make yourself. I easily spend over $100 on some plastics each year so it will work out over time for sure.
