Brought back memories of when you lifted the bonnet, the parts you saw were recognisable (unlike today). I found out the hard way what happens if you get the distributor 180 degrees out. A shame YT / your channel wasn't around when mine needed a respray, way back when.
I remember fitting Scorpion electronic ignition to my Ford Escort Mk1 about forty years ago! It was a simpler job though, and primarily because it retained the points - condenser could be removed, but no one ever did. Those Scorpions had the advantage that you could revert to standard ignition if the electronics ever conked out, though it never did. There was also the Piranha electronic ignition which was very popular too. I half expected this video to be about that type of system. There were some clever kits that let you take out the points and condenser and replace them with a Hall effect transistor and reluctor disc. It has to be said that electronic ignition gave good starting and consistent performance at all times. If course, once we hit the eighties, electronic ignition was standard fayre, and even mapped ignition was common by the mid eighties. Hmm, spark initiated combustion has certainly come a long way over the last fifty years.
Im a yank and have a love for British motorcycles and have owned my share of MGs Triumphs and one oddball sunbeam tiger. Used to be a joke stateside: Why do the British drink their beer at room temperature? Because Dr. Lucas, the prince of darkness, made their refrigerators too!
Except that rotor button rotates anticlockwise as you pointed out, so you have leads 2 and 3 on the wrong post. It shouldn’t have run at all or very badly 😂
enjoyed the vid/... hey i wanted to say on the spitfire bonnet you never lift it with the latches. open the latches and lift from the wheel arch is the way to do it.
You turned a ten minute Job in to a Marathon I’ve never seen a car engine that didn’t turn clock all the info was there turn the engine to tdc which is on the crank pulley check rotor arm is pointing to number one if not turn 360 and it will check disey body position and fit new one fit leads to correct cylinders wire up set timimig with strobe light ten minute job u r enough to make a good bloke cry 😢
A few faults already noticed through the miracles of editing but you do know you only had to look at the fan blades to know which direction the engine turned? And you remove the vac advance when timing 😂
I see through the miracle of video editing plug leads 2 and 3 sorted themselves out 😂
26:40 where you swap the 2 and 3 wires over because you got the direction wrong... Should have fessed up.

Yes at 26:42 the leads to No 2 and No 3 Cylinders swapped themselves over. Tut Tut Mr Cave😉

you turned a simple job into an all day task. a half hour or 45 min should have been plenty
Is a skosh the equivalent of a redheaded ---- hair

good vid why did'nt you set the timing on the front pulley for no1 cylinder and the distributor turns anticlockwise
;

Great jump cut 😊
Why not just use the timing marks on the pulley?
Best modification for ANY shitfire is a gallon of fuel and a box of matches!
Lol.. its a rum thing. 🤪
@@NorfolkMancaveask me why I feel like this, all will become clear! Oh no, youv'e guessed!!! Another Norfolk boy (80 Years young,)
you forgot the coil
mrs man cave changed 2 and 3 leads over in break lol
Come on Adam rotor arm goes anti clockwise 2 and 3 leads wrong other than that brilliant Triump spitfire owner Kev Devon

And I don't think the distributor is full home in the bottom clamp, another job for the wife I suppose.
