StarCraft 2: ~80 SUPPLY WIDOW MINE DROP! (TY vs soO)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 січ 2020
- This game of StarCraft 2 includes the biggest Widow Mine drop I've ever seen at the professional level in SC2. Roughly 80 supply worth of Brood Lords and Corruptors goes up in a matter of seconds as TY comes in from the side with a massive Medivac flank. In this video I cast a long drawn out macro game of professional StarCraft 2 between TY and soO. A crazy Terran versus Zerg that really shows the current strengths and weaknesses of both progamers.

23:18 "The ultimate Terran composition is SKYTOSS with Thor support as well..." - Lowko 2020
I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of THAT composition... O_o
Its the same way the Overmind and Amon were defeated.
those impossible standards set by lowko
Not only he PRO-TOSS can TOSS something into the SKY..
Say medivacs as always -> BC or twoto harras -> some vikings + ravens for sky dominance -> moarr BCs for the kill.. Is a "sky-toss" play - just not protos skytos..
It's somethin like that - or lowko simply fumbled the rambling.
thors + tempest + mothership + carriers .. yup i agree i wouldnt want to ever face that either !
@@myselfthethird3393 eww. The stuff of nightmares.
20:32
That was the best use of widowmines I've ever seen
Hello, brood lords, your amazon delivery has arrived
Beastyqt style :)
Costin Velicu watch Florencio.
That looked like carpet bombing.
@@diamondleaguedisaster Wow, thank you. I like watching Ty. Awesome drop!!
marine: where's our air support?
airsupport: carrier has arrived
Thor: I'm all the support you need idiots!
now help me get these lings off me...
20:25 This is what you are here to see
20:28 Broodlords: Why do we hear boss music coming from those medivacs?
20:40 the 4 surviving Broodlords: So that's why...
Thanks.
"I'm gonna do what's called a Pro Gamer move"
Did you finish researching "Neosteel Frame" for your roof? Hope everything is good with that!
It still needs to be fixed but the issue has been found. Doesn’t look like it’s going to be too bad (and not too expensive).
@@LowkoTV Good deal man. Love your content!
Ill say ive been consumed by the style of your content Lowko, but to see a positive reply to a positive comment is very heart warming even though it doesnt have much to do with the content :p enjoying your work ^_^
"i think the ultimate terran composition is probably skytoss" LOWKO circa 2020
Yeah, nothing beats tempest-thor unit composition
Yeah i was a litte confused at this moment
@@BardKeepseasy Maybe Viper/Corruptor/Lurker with obduct? I have actually lost a few 2v2 games to tempest-thor. It seems to be rather common there.
I was just going to comment this
It is the age of misinformation so this is Par for the course.
As a watcher of Beastyqt I am somewhat disappointed that the "80 supply" refers to the _enemy losses_ not the actual mines themselves.
Queue clip of Beasty carpet-bombing with widowmines.
Lowko with 400 APM: I'm not fast enough
Me with 60: Guess i'm dead
I've played SC2 since release and average 90. LOL
The APM is inflated anyway. If you take away all the bullshit they do in between actually doing needed stuff they lose a lot of APM. No reason to cycle shit if your not actually getting use out of what you do. honestly APM should just be removed from the stats so people stop inflating it. less focus on how fast you click and instead focus on WHAT you do would be far better.
Its very easy toget more than 60 just use control groups and hotkeys
For what it's worth, I love watching what you call "Turtle" play. I prefer to think of it as siege warfare. It forces Zerg to go for that that high economy/swarmy style like the race was intended. Think of it this way: if humans landed on a planet where they needed to mine some minerals, and they knew that a zerg-like hostile alien race was out there waiting for them, wouldn't we set up a lot of defense and try to protect our economy before expanding?
lol
If terran does turtle mech properly, there is no way zerg can win the game with a "high eco/swarm style". The only option zerg has in those scenarios are pickoffs with vipers (with would be a assassination/highly specialised unit playstyle, not swarmy at all) or swarm hosts, which are a swarm style all right, but which usually feel very cheap to the player playing against them (and rightfully so imo). Thors outranging broodlords loses zerg all of its units that are good against thors and that's a problem in pro play but also in lower leagues, because it's just no fun to play against it.
I feel like the “swarmy” style of Zerg is the hyper aggressive armies coming out from multiple angles. I get Terran would defend heavy against that but games like this are just maxing our and waiting for your opponent to run out of resources. Turtle mech isn’t fun to play against
@@asdfasdf-mn8iu I mean, that's kinda the point of competitive games? If you can ensure your opponent can't win, you should do that. Everything else is just cheap showmanship.
@@NovaHessia If the circumstances of the game dictate who's going to win with equal skill levels, that's not the point of competetive games. Think if in chess white always won on equal skill (and white is actually favoured in chess, though not substantially).
That drop came out of nowhere, beautiful.
Shit was insane!
The Zerg: *Are Space Locusts*
Terrans: "Aight. Imma mine you out."
Zerg: *Surprised Pikachu face*
that mine ambush was INSANE !
Lowko how could you possibly finish a game like that and not show us the stats at the end. How many resources mined/lost, units lost and average apm all would be super interesting for a game this long
There is a holy trinity of Strategy that most good strategy games employ:
The Rush, Turtle, Tech trinity.
Rush beating Tech.
Tech beating Turtle.
Turtle beating Rush.
A turtle should be in SC2 to beat specific timing attacks. But not as good as teching as a Fast-Tech.
Essencially:
Rush
Early Game: 5
Mid game: 3
Late game: 2
You sacrifice your lategame a bit for more pressure. High risk high reward.
Turtle
Early Game: 4
Mid game: 4
Late game: 3
You sacrifice agression for safety.
Tech
Early Game: 2
Mid game: 3
Late game: 5
Also high risk high reward. If you pull through the early game, your lategame will be insane.
I've been out of the SC2 loop for a few years, found this channel and it is INSANELY ENTERTAINING! The play is off the charts and I really enjoy the passion. I love watching these matches.
I guess TY has been watching BeastQT's widow mines and ravens only series
'w.m&ravs into GM' taken into pro lvl
@ who cares about taking it to GM when you can take it all the way to the Pro level
TY was doing this against broodlords years ago, it's nothing new. Maru used to do it vs colossus in HotS as well
8:18 rip marine, he was just trying to get to his friends T_T
omg that was so sad lol I'm laughing while holding back tears
Good eye man. Poor Jimmy. :,(
The creep spread from SoO this game was crazy good. I can't remember seeing much better than this.
One of the things that makes starcraft so interesting is the wide range of strategies that are viable. I think turtling should be just as viable as every other strategy so that way we see the most diverse games.
No it shouldn't be if low risk styles are viable they are the only ones that will be played that is how that works.
Its a problem when turtleing becomes unbeatable and all players defaulting into this strategy
23:22 yes LowkoTV, the ultimate Terran comp IS Skytoss. The tricky part is getting those Carriers out in time ;)
Wow. I didn't realize that was a 42 minute long match :O At the end you could see how much of a difference terran was ahead with, by having 4k 4k resources plus the army plus the opponent being at 3 workers for like the last ten minutes. I also liked how the terran player was just like "lol, I have mules" effectively when he just mined out soos resources. This has been a scholarly essay.
35:42 "securing another base that was supposed to be ( -the zerg- ) terrence"
pepega lowko
A war of attrition.
39:03 "He can make Zegrlings whoope doo"
Honestly that would be one of the best moves he could have done. I played almost mech only when i played SC2 and the biggest counter to Thors are the cheapest units like Marines and Zerglings cause the Thor attacks basically leave them at 5-10 hp and have to attack twice, lowering their effective DPS. And in this situation TY had only Thors and Liberators which are both ineffective against swarms of enemies.
In this case the zerglings would not have been effective against the thors due to upgrades. Zerg didn't do armor upgrades for his ground units, and the terran maxxed out his mech upgrades. I'm pretty sure I saw thors 1-shot zerglings several times during the match.
Todays weather forecast shows light showers of mines followed by a torrent of chunky salsa.
I do like these change for terran, it does feel thematic in a sense, the terran bulking up and withstanding the swarm to come back with a vengeance. The zerg have incredible speed and should be the aggressor lore wise.
Unfortunately, any time Zerg has an allin that works consistently it gets nerfed into the ground (or the other races get buffed to the point where it's really easy to hold). Like, when was the last time you saw a super quick pool actually win games?
You have zero sense of game mechanics congrats. Zerg being an aggressor and headbutting into turtle terran is a strategy as brainless as your comment
@@jkkim6928 I never said it was proper balance game mechanic wise, just that it fits with the lore of the game, that's all there is to it, no needs to jump guns here or extrapolate upon it.
It would fit if the slow push involved building bunkers. This game was basically "I have a bunch of thors and a raven slowly walking forward and there's nothing you can do about it". A bunch of robots standing out in the open doesn't really fit the Terran lore. It's also really boring to watch, aside from the titular widow mine drop.
When you were complaining about turtle mech and not being fast enough, all I could think was "Old Man Lowko"
So crazy and fun, turtling is not perfect game style to watch but occasionally having one game that can accompany you through a lunch alone during work is actually great lol.
"Hello, my name is lowko, and welcome to another game of StarCraft 2."
Ur right! This is how it all should have started...
Hello my name is Lowko and what I've got for you today...
we need more of this!
you are Joshua !!!
Can you include the dates that the games were played in the description? That'd be pretty helpful!
That was actually the sickest play I’ve seen in awhile
The turtle play is ok, but it can get annoying if it goes on too long. But I like being able to hold off the enemy until I'm ready to push. I just love watching soO's creep progression. He took like 70% of the map with it. I am terrible at remembering to spread creep in addition to expanding and building my army.
marines: calling for air support....
widowmine bombers inbound..
"Whatever type of play helps Serral win most easily should be encouraged."
-Lowko, probably
Remembered this game and had to search for it and come back to watch this insane carpet bomb again. Legendary.
when it comes to infestors, their new spell really seems bad, but what was the original purpose of it? as far as i know, it was supposed to replace the anti-air function of infested terrans (at which it sucks apparently). so, how about we get rid of Microbial Shroud and bring Scourges into the game? single target low health flying anti-air nukes would fulfill the anti-air need far better than the infestor spell (+ Scourge is Scourge, that little annoying bat-like creature is iconic for broodwar starcraft, isnt it?)
bb microbial shroud is terrible because it only affects ground units so pretty much only hydras and they get wrecked by aoe like tanks, colossus, disruptior, etc.
Microbial shroud is trash unless it affects air units like curroptors and broodlords too. The buff to it changed nothing even if they make microbial shroud cost 25 energy nobody will use it it's just not worth the apm and infestor cost. I would love to see scourge in sc2. Make infestors spawn scourge xd
Pls bring back scourge
There's no point returning the scourge when you have corruptors which are better than scourge in almost every way (except speed)
Lowko is like the Battle cruisers, he won't tactically jump into saying what the meta is yet. Clever boi
The ultimate terran composition is probably skytoss XD 23:20
23:20 "Ultimate Terran composition is probably skytoss"
3:48
You're always not fast enough, only the fastest can be.
8:21 that marine got betrayed and it was so sad
"He's been mining all the bases of the Terran" Yes. All Your Base Belong To Us. The Zerg Bugs Are Weak. All Your Base Belong To The Terrans.
Lowko: *mentions 42*
Me. *GASP*
Holy crap caustic spray is so good. It reminds my of the reaper snipes from WoL when they still had that detonation charge
Seeing this cast makes me back, even more, your scourge proposal for Zerg
I would love to see a feature length movie of sc2 that revolves around the moment with the widow mines.
when I read the title I thought it was gonna be a 40-mine drop...oops
Felt like a Starcraft one game w the turtle and mech love it!
I saw the "80 SUPPLY WIDOW MINE DROP!" title and I said: Ohhh... maybe is a florencio's game, then I saw the TY vs soO and I was "awwww, well...."
lokow, Did you see the belings returning back from the atack when he press the the hot key (f2) for the army? in the minute 36 at 55 seconds, and then he realice after 60 seconds at the
minute 37 and 42 seconds, and he send them back to the terran expantion.
That widow mine drop...what a sight to behold
I think the deciding factor was near the beginning when soO stuck around TSGTYTY's base. That period of time he just wandered around the base while the battlecruisers destroyed one of the hives.
Gefeliciteerd met je verjaardag!
"you need like 600 apm"
>Me having seen seral at points spike up to 1600, ah, so that's how the madman does it.
Teran turtles because there's no other option
Anyone else notice that SUV freaking out that his homies were being attacked @5:10 in the top left
To be honest, i normally enjoy the Long Games of StarCraft II a Lot, but this one felt kind of over for a long time and except for the 10 Seconds widow Mine drop, there wasn t really much happening.
Without your nice casting, i probably would Not have watchted through the whole Thing.
Have an amazing day and do not forget to smile! :)
You did cast a Serral game, and he just styled on every single Thor with Viper yoinks. I remember thinking "wow, so much for new Terran mech", but it turns out pretty much only Serral can pull it off.
"...AND HE GETS A HUGE DETONATION, OH F..."
Lowko, sir, you have my respect for managing not to finish that sentence the way most of us would :D
Lowko:This is going to be only one mach Me:[noticing it is 40 minutes long] Wow
As a zerg player, i have to say:
THAT DROP WAS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!
You think this is a slow game man Age of empires will make you laugh but do I love seeing Lowko commentate and these high teir players are on a whole nother level
The Drilling Mine Carpet Drop was also done by Cure against Rogue that Winter casted.
Absolutely brilliant tactics! XD
LoL commentator was legit like *paraphrasing* “i have this opinion...” followed by “i don’t know what i’m talking about.”
That widow mine moment felt like something Nova would do in Co-op
Lowko, so far I've had really good result with Hydra viper against a Thor based army. Thors suck up a ton of resources and suck up a terrans bank very fast. Pig also recently uploaded a video where he killed avilo by hitting the army with Hydra viper and hitting bases with swarm hosts
Mine drop at 20:26
Every Zerg player: I like playing a bio army
35:41 didn't know that spot belonged to terran this whole time
Firstly I'm a Zerg player and I would really like to see more bio plays.
I think a new and nice upgrade would work.
For example in the techlab a 100/100 update to get a third slot in the barracks.
Would be nice to see some pro's testing this.
I really enjoy to play against bio T but if the player is good it's still a really good balanced game where both sides can easily win.
Looks like Soo not learning any thing from serral at this time. If serral was in this game he would have picked all thors one by one with vipers and made sure TY never got this many! From start it was inevitable, nor Soo made 40 infestors and nuraled all thors! Thanks Lowko as usual for the content ♥
Remember how the spoon terran used nukes to make the most of his mech army?
TY is a Terran GOD!!!! that was crazy
That widow mine drop was art...
Awesome widow drop.
Turtle should be a risk-reward, just like everything else. Rock-paper-scisors style. Rush>Turtle>Agressive macro or something of the sort. So conditionally encouraged
I totally agree with your opinion, in that I too hope that it doesn't become the standard play/meta. Beautiful Starcraft is when there are drops happening, backstabs, mid map battles, base for base clashes, burrowed sneak attacks, baneling mines and stuff like that.
If no one's better late game, and no one's better early game, then there's still no real pressure to fight.
methodical, meticulous, and magnificent
40:25
Thor: ouch!
SCV: *hugs
Better?
Thor: yes thank-you
i actually skipped over the last 10 minutes (first time ever for a Lowko video), was just a long death animation. Sick widow mines though!
That drive by with the widow mines was absolutely nuts! The amount of APM required to pull that off while managing the fight with the thors while dropping them in with afterburner medivacs to then borrow. The skill from TY was seething out from him in that play!
it's literally just tap hotkeys for medivacs (or box select) -> right click through the broodlirds -> press "b" for afterburners -> "d" (drop) + click on the medivacs -> tap the widowmines hotkeys -> "e" to burrow (repeat the last 2 commands to make sure all widowmines are burrows) ... that's not too many commands to be included when all you have to do with thors is "A"+right click
Hey lowko sorry to ask this out of the blue but I was wondering how do you record your games on pc?
I have just started my own channel and I would love to record warcraft 3 reforged and starcraft with audio on my channel. But I have no clue how to do it. I felt like asking you for tips could be the best way to understand it since you are a pro =)
And I love your content especially your starcraft and broodwar playthroughs =)
Sorry for this sudden question hope I am not rude or anything
Finally the Raven in TvZ and it´s great, i really don´t understand why not more pro´s play with Raven in TvZ.
A hydra, viper comp switch would have been deadly later in the game imo.
i saw title and thought he was dropping 80 supply worth of widowmines lol
,,Hello my Name is Lowko and welcome to an other match of Starcraft 2"
I miss this sentence
Infestor range is fine with a range of 8. Also, we can't call Serral GOAT until he proves his salt with the new Zerg balance.
The ultimate terran composition is skytoss with thors - Lowko 2020
Blizzard should add a dual monitor compatibility for Starcraft 2 and add an option to customize what you see. If that is possible that would be the ultimate commanders view.
This game makes me think about flash back in sc1 and Reality with his "reality style"
Incredible methodical terran gameplay, slow pushing for base control. Zerg a-moves banelings.
Battlecruisers, Widow Mines, Thors, Liberators, Vikings and Ravens = GG
Very simple fix for BC: tactical jump cost energy, so you can choose, make high damage with Yamato and then pay the price or cowardly jump away after some harass... Having both available at a same time is OP :P
Gotta say I'm a little disappointed this game didn't load up with that dank **BWAAAAAAA BWWWWUUUUAAAAA** trumpet song.
Such a cool game!
They finally fix ZERG....AND LOWKO balance 🍷? 🤭😂
"Shame...🔔.shame.🔔...shame...🔔shame.🔔..shame"
Yep right now 10 range isnta burrow lurkers are op snipe range is 9 and tvt feels like tvsz but one side has insta siege tanks
5:17 scv on the high ground. Me during a test when I stuck on 2 questions that r not on the same page
Beautiful casting as always. Lowko, I think 400-450 APM is plenty fast enough. Perhaps the fact that professionals practice 12 hours a day (or whatever it is, a lot) so that their APM is all accurate and no spam is more to the point. But I don't want you to do that because I love your content :-)
Lowko, where's your iconic intro? I can't take it anymore.
