    i appreciate you bringing the fact that you tune higher than most people think, and a lot of the sound has to do with the foh guys. new drummers usually learn that the hard way

    The 'CHEATCODES' to the 'fat' snare sound are:
    1. Having a tune bot (amzn.to/2rWOFJ1) ⚡️
    2. Tune the batter Head to 235 hz ⚡️
    3. CRANK the resonant head ⚡️
    4. Always use your ear ⚡️

    I'm 52, been playing drums and tuning them a while, i haven't played in an age!
    But do still keep up on my snare drum rudiments (practice pad)
    Most days, playing singles, doubles, paradiddles, odd number rolls and of course tripletise everything that's taught generically as a straight time rudiment.
    Like I say i have a lot of gigging experience but not so much lately, basically I'm saying your tuning method's are pretty solid.
    10/10.
    Yes engineers will mess with the front of house sound mix for the audience but it's very important that you're happy with your sounds in the near field.
    Obviously you have to like what you're hearing while you play, you are the source of the sound in essence after all.

    Anyone have any tips for getting your snare wire tension dialled in?

  • @thomasmoje5926
    @thomasmoje5926 2 роки тому

    I've learned not to over tension the snare wires..used to tighten them too much to the point that they were choking the sound. For worship band purposes I use either a 5 x 14" wood shell snare drum with an Evans '56 Calftone batter head and Ambassador hazy snare side head, or a Ludwig Carl Palmer Signature 3.7 x 14" brass shell snare drum with Emperor coated white batter head and hazy Ambassador snare side head (believe it or not it does tune down to a nice 'fat' tone). I tune the batter heads to an approximate 'E' and the resonant head a step above that (about an 'F'). If dampening is required I use a small folded piece of duct tape on the batter side head. I bring a roll of duct tape with me to dampen according to the acoustics of the venue. I use brushes often so good brush response is a must. My tuning generally works well for most applications. Good info thanks for posting.

    other stuff that worked for me for getting the "bethel snare sound" was getting the Big Fat Snare Drum that you put on top of your snare, and hitting the snare with the butt of the stick.
    My whole snare kit:
    - 14x8 pork pie snare
    - 42 snare strand
    - evans st dry (2 x 7mil ply)
    - big fat snare drum
    - tuned low (personal preference, you have to experiment between low to mid)

    I recently purchased a new snare. It's a Dixon Cornerstone 14x6.5" Red Gum and yesterday I also purchased an Evans Heavyweight for it. Just matched both bad boys, tuned it extremely high and man, I just love it. I really love that there's no need of muffling in my snare, so you get the natural and juicy snare tone. But after seeing this... I'm really considering tuning it your way. Can't wait to return and taste it in church with good mics and the full band. 🙌🏼

    Gut erklärt: Resohead maximum high, guter Teppich und das Schlagfell auch bei 230-240hz justieren. Beim Dämpfer sollte man experimentieren: Bei inverted (S-) hoops sind Ringe toll, denn sie bleiben sicher unter dem Spannreifen hängen. Snare Weights , Moongel etc haben auch ihren Reiz. Letztlich ist auch ein gezieltes Detuning klasse: Zum Bespiel die eine Stimmschraube beim Snarestrainer ganz lose drehen und schon wird es "fat" - ohne weitere Anbauteile 😊

    Hey what’s up bro I got a 13x7 (8 lug) it has depth but I’m not sure about the actual size you know? Does that extra inch make a difference and how can I get your snare sound if it’s possible on a 13 inch?

    • @DeBoltDrumming
      @DeBoltDrumming  4 роки тому +1

      What is up David!
      I hear you. a 13 inch is definitely much different than a 14 inch, so I would say it might be harder to get that fatter sound with that snare drum. You can try and still get it to the same frequency as mine, but make sure its not sounding to flubby! ⚡️❤️

      One more question (not really I might have more😂) so over at my church we’ve had a Pearl export that’s well worth about $500 -$600 and we’ve had it for about 8 years and we’re supposed to be getting a new set soon which company would you recommend i was thinking Ludwig but I’m not sure on it I’ve never bought drums what do you think? Oh I forgot the price range is max at $900 any ideas of a good set ?

    • @DeBoltDrumming
      @DeBoltDrumming  4 роки тому +1

      @@DavidLopes4 hmmm. At that price range your best kit would probably be like the PDP Concept Maple Classic, or a Ludwig maple classic. ⚡️❤️

    Why are you putting the snare on top of a throne and not on a snare stand?

    • @DeBoltDrumming
      @DeBoltDrumming  Рік тому

      It helps to have either a hand or something else to mute the resonance of the head you aren't tuning. It helps you only hear the pitch of the head you're currently tuning.

  • @loveaboveall2382

    I thought you and the other drummers touring with modern worship bands just use drum samples with Roland RT30's triggers. Is that not the case? And If it is, as long as the drum doesn't sound horrible, everything will sound just fine. Or am I completely wrong here?

    • @DeBoltDrumming
      @DeBoltDrumming  2 роки тому +1

      I never used samples live! I think the main thing is making sure the source (i.e the snare) sounds good. So good tuning is a must.

    Do you play rimshots much or just in the center of the drum with no rimshot. I’ve found that playing in the center with no rimshot makes for a beefier sounding snare. Curious how you approach playing?

    • @DeBoltDrumming
      @DeBoltDrumming  4 роки тому +1

      It all depends on the context! For most things, I am rim shotting. For a quiter verse, however, just hitting the center works ⚡️❤️

    Hey man, I have a question
    I only have a 14 by 5.5 but good quality pearl snare, works for all my gigs and sounds always great but for worship.
    Would you go different about tuning it then your deeper snare?

    • @DeBoltDrumming
      @DeBoltDrumming  4 роки тому

      hmmmm. If you tuned it to the same frequency of mine it might sound a bit higher than we would want (but honestly I am not sure). I would experiment and see where it starts to sit really nice without being flabby. ⚡️
