Same. Brought it home yesterday and am watching to get some insights as well. I’m not tech ignorant, but my last car had a CD player and the most techie thing on it was the button operated keyless entry. Big jump in terms of operation.
This new screen is the only thing holding me back from buying this car... Its between this and a mazda cx 30 carbon turbo edition.
I hated the cx30. It was way too small for me, but im a big guy.
The cx30 is not a realistic suv, the back seat is useless for normal size adults. It's like a longer version of a mazda3.
The crosstrek is a much better value
I bought a 2023 Forester Touring last month, I'm glad I got the old system. To me physical knobs are better. This is all to save money by turning physical interfaces into cheap software. I hope Subaru redesigns this system soon.
I love the display, but I do miss the knobs. They've updated it a little bit since our 2022 Outbacks as my 2024 Crosstrek is a little more user friendly. I do want the knobs back though still.
The display has a knob for volume and another for radio tuning.
The steering wheel has volume buttons. Change track buttons etc. and of course the ACC.
And the display has buttons to increase or decrease temperature - on either side.
It’s pretty natural.
I wish I could edit the screens more.
If I could, I could fit all the features I use on one screen.
Alex, love your videos. I have a Crosstrek and was hoping you could explain how to increase the time warnings are shown in instrument display. By the time you take your eyes off the road the warning is gone. Hope you can help, Subaru Canberra didn’t have a clue.
Ah yes, gotta love infotainment screens the size of a 65’ flatscreen TV. Totally not distracting at all! And temp controls are integrated into there too. What a gaudy nightmare.
There are still physical buttons for temp control (the red and blue arrow buttons near the bottom) for each side of the car. With just a little practice, you can do it without taking your eyes off the road.

As someone who has reached that age of diminished sight, I appreciate the larger screen, especially when I access maps/driving directions, the rear cameras, and quick glances for info. I don’t find it distracting at all…it’s not like I’m playing movies on it. 🤷🏻♀️
Can you use Android Auto without physically connecting your phone via a cable? That's what I have to do in my 2020, and getting my 2024 tomorrow.
How do you bring up android apps on the screen?
Was comparing one of these in the Limited trim here in Canada and man, that infotainment and harmon kardon was lacking. Especially compared to the CX-30 GT or Kona N-Line Ultimate. They leave Subaru in the dust in regards to audio, infotainment, and interior quality. Other than its AWD system, suspension, and tank size it sadly loses me. It would be a solid option though to me if it was an 8 speed instead of CVT, and the infotainment/audio was better. A/C settings not being physical controls is also a deal breaker for quick driver utilization.
You have to be kidding me! I purchased a 2022 Outback but returned it four months later mainly because of this. I purchased a 2023 Forester. None of this mess. Did you notice that the fuel and temp gauges are backwards?
The clock app took 5 seconds to load. Knowing how tablets and phones tend to get slowed to death by software updates meant for newer hardware I'm worried that this is only going to get slower.
It's still annoying that the climate control is on the screen.
There are up/down physical buttons on each side so each rider can customize.
I'll take my 2021 crosstrek sport screen over this one all day,
How do you get your wireless phone charger to work? I set my phone on mine and it doesn't seem to charge.
theres a button on the pad to turn it on or off.
turn on only when you need it and never put anything metal on the pad
Love the 11.6 inch display! Did not like my 2021 split screen. Appreciate the wireless CarPlay and charging. Hated the buttons on the 2021 at the bottom left of the steering wheel. Like the concentric loading of buttons on the 11.6 . In addition the screen is integrated. I hate the iPad look of many car infotainment systems.
Did they remove wired apple carplay capability with the higher trims ?
No. It has both

I think it pops up a message. You also can check a “car status” screen from the settings menu.

@@sirifail4499 99% sure this is false. I ended up buying the 2024 Crosstrek. The base model is wired only. All the other models are wireless only. It's not clear in the manual but it is implied, the dealer confirmed it, and I can't make it work either.
This is a huge miss in my book. The wireless CarPlay experience is laggy.

Subaru engineers: Our touch screens are notorious for failing, it may be a problem...

These are the dumbest things that have been incorporated into vehicles.
Absolutely requires you to remove your eyes from the road to operate everything. Knobs can be learned by feel to be adjusted.
Humans are getting dumber by all the technology being forced onto us.
Plus electronics fail far easier than physical knobs.
All basically “planned obsolescence” simply designed for corporate greed.

@@cloudpoint0 I think the biggest problem is how Subaru handled the whole debacle and just lied to me when they knew the whole run of radio units were complete garbage. I'd actually pay an extra $600. I've had two Subaru screens and both were defective and the whole system has not worked correctly since I purchased the car. Low quality, poor software or whatever, you should be able to buy a brand new car and be able to listen to the radio. As of today, there is still a multi-month waiting list for a (my third) replacement unit. The replacement cost is about $2K, it's out of warranty and Subaru will pay for half. They cut corners to increase profits and many consumers got screwed. My iPad screen is 10 years old and works perfectly, no reason they can't put a reliable screen in a car.
@@cloudpoint0 I understand your point, but with all due respect, touch screens are a huge distraction while driving. They cannot be seen in bright sun, and make driving less safe. They have become popular for one reason, they are cheap for the manufacturers. Buttons don't fail at anywhere the same rate as these screens. I sold one of my Hondas last year from the early 90s and every single button and switch on the dash worked perfectly after 250K miles. Even the cassette player still worked!

I liked when Subarus had boring interiors. Apparently their creative liberty doesn’t yield a positive result.
This is what is holding me back of buying new WRX with nice offer, less interest rate and no MSRP.
That touchscreen UI is horrible and could not deal with it being as Subaru owner. Volvo in the other hand did amazing job with their vertical screen and their UI.
Where is the CD player??
No CD player since CDs are becoming obsolete :( just like the transition from cassette tapes to CD 10-15 years ago

@@Fidelity_Sound I was definitely around in 1999 unfortunately lol, trying to look at cool car pics on my Compaq computer using slow ass dial up internet 🤣. I meant that the UI style reminded me of old computer software.
