Wow, This was the first mac i ever bought. Watching this i felt kinda emotional in a way. This machine was the first step in my transition from being an irresponsible child to being a music composer. Something I do for a living now. Only love for this machine.
I loaded Mavericks on my early 08 15 and it's more than useful still. I'm watching this in 1080p, on battery, with the brightness all the way up, and it's not even flenching. I'd rather use this, vs a 2020 chromebook.
Nice find . I just bought an early 2008 off eBay. The laptop looks brand new and the battery only has 6 cycles on it. It arrived with a fully charged battery too, which was crazy.
@@arthurgamerpro6585 This was the golden era of Apple, when Jobs was still CEO. Apple mainly focused on innovation and features. Now, Apple is taking good features away, and innovation is reversing. I used iPhone back about 6 years ago. IMO after the iPhone X, is when Apple lost innovation. That's why I switched to Samsung. Once Apple starts innovating, and add very useful features, I will consider another iPhone. Plus, you don't get that "perfect" Apple treatment anymore when you unbox a brand new product.
I used that exact MB Pro daily up until 2015, when the faulty Nvidia GPU died. It was quite a powerhouse, if it wasn't for the bad GPU, I would probably kept using it for another year and a half. I bought it in 2009, for USD$850 in today's dollars. It was a great deal
Same with every laptop in 2020. Haha. It just shows how low of a priority it is in everyday use and even if it is, it’s just used for zoom meetings with colleagues and FaceTime.
Can we appreciate the fact, that a 2008 laptop has better mic, than most of the modern ones or even phones? Also, the camera quality both on the Mac and the iPhone are freakin' impressive for their age! This is a pro setup for UA-cam-ing in 2008.

Okay, I also have a MacBookPro just like this one. It is an A1226 from early 2008, and I have had it for years. I have also upgraded it over the years and it is now max-ed out for peak performance. I have a 500GB SSD in it, a full complement of 6GB RAM, and fully loaded with every app I could possibly run, including the complete CS6 extended, full Microsoft Office for MAC, Google Earth, iTunes, iPhoto, etc. etc. . My DVD player still works. I can plug in headphones. Can go wireless or use an ethernet cable. I have been running MAX OSX Yosemite without a hitch for years with excellent speed. The only thing I had to change was one internal cooling fan, and a battery --- and this is over the span of 12+ years. This model was also the very last one before the Unibody was introduced ( so just like the one is this video). I am still running all Adobe apps on it without any special licensing. Also all Microsoft Apps, including MS Word, without any subscription fees either. This MacBook Pro has been an absolute workhorse for me ---- and I am a real horseman so understand that term well. I highly recommend this kind of MacBook as you can keep it running forever and only have some limitations when it comes to streaming or gaming. But since I don't use my MacBook for either of these things I have been very satisfied. I also have 2 other MacBooks, both A1286's... to me, the best ever MacBookPro's ever made ---- but my 1226A from 2008 is right up there with them. I am a professional graphics artist and have done endless projects on this MacBookPro on Adobe CS6 extended, without ever having to consider upgrading to Creative Cloud. Last word: If Steve Jobs was still alive he would not countenance the new Apple MacBooks that have no way for anyone to upgrade or modify their components ---- like adding a new SSD hard drive, or adding in additional RAM sticks. As you may have guessed... I am a big time MacUser here, age 71, and still loving my old Macs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So Luke you are not alone.

This was my first MacBook Pro that I got when I was in 7th/8th grade and started my love for Apple! This computer lasted me years before the logic board finally died (I presume) back in 2013-ish. That Intel Core 2 Duo was certainly capable!
Talk about a blast from the past. My grandpa had one of these and gave it to my mom when he stopped buying laptops. She had it until the motherboard died in 2016. She loved that MacBook Pro. She unfortunately bought the MacBook Pro with the butterfly keyboard and had to put up with it until it died on her a few weeks ago. Now she has a M2 15 inch Air that she loves.
I remember buying my first MacBook Pro. Same one as yours, but smaller. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Time sure flies. (That POS lasted just over a year, btw, but the unibody that replaced it still runs fine after 10+ years.)

@@Alodri Interesting to read this. I have a 2008 MBP 17 and with the 6gb of memory it fixed most of my problems with Chrome. I prefer running videos on Opera. It’s very smooth for some reason. On El Capitan as well. I tried Mojave with dosdude tool. It worked but it’s working a little bit better with El Capitan. Did you make upgrades ?

That's not even a joke. When quality got upgraded on this cool website, called UA-cam, the friendly vibe also disappeared. The last nail in the coffin of the older version was when they removed the "Broadcast Yourself" headline. It was a very community-centric place a few years ago. We had video responses and we could react to each other's content that way. Now it's a walled garden, that isn't about the people anymore.
I really like the removable battery design on laptops. Because you can power it even with just the power cord plugged into it directly even w/o the battery attached to it.
if you run these Without the battery, they will run the fans on high and stay stuck in low power mode... its worth getting Any functioning aftermarket or used battery than having none..
This was special to me. This is where it all started from me. This computer, and in fact iMovie and GarageBand in particular on this computer, got me where I am today. I absolutely love it, and sort of wish the design style of the computer and OS X would return. It looks fantastic to me still. And the little hibernation indicator it had where it would glow like it was breathing. It's legendary. I since went and got all sorts of Apples, old and new, including old PPC Macs and my 2020 iMac I'm writing this on, but this thing holds such a special place in my heart

I am watching this on my new M1 MacBook Pro. Honestly, the video capabilities through that WebCam on the 2008 MacBook Pro really wasn't that bad for its time. The audio quality was pretty decent for back then even listening to it now if I will be honest. I really love the video and I hope to see more videos like this!

If you're talking about 300-400 dollars laptop, then yes. For $1000+, any windows laptop will match macbook in built and design department....that m1 processor is a totally different thing.

This is my first Mac. It's my favorite design. Though it comes with Mac OS X Leopard you can actually install Tiger on it.

If you're talking about 300-400 dollars laptop, then yes. For $1000+, any windows laptop will match macbook in built and design department....that m1 processor is a totally different thing.

@@nicman9793 check unboxing videos of the same macbook uploaded in 2008, the cables are packaged completely differently, way neater, this is a macbook that was opened and used before, then the person tried to reseal it to make it look like its new and sold it for way more than its worth to this guy
